MOGADISHU, Somalia - An increasingly powerful Islamic militia rolled through its newly captured territory and installed a religious court in one town Wednesday as the remnants of a U.S.-backed alliance of warlords desperately tried to regroup.
U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue, have confirmed cooperating with the secular warlords, who charge the militia has links to al-Qaida.
The Bush administration has not confirmed or denied giving money to the alliance. President Bush warned this week that the chief concern "is to make sure that Somalia does not become an al-Qaida safe haven."

"In terms of the Islamic courts, our understanding is that this isn't a monolithic group that it is really an effort on the part of some individuals to try to restore some semblance of order in Mogadishu," McCormack told reporters.
Just like Hamas' rise to power was called a vote against corruption.
"The secular militia did not provide reliable security to this town. Now, we can rest assured the Islamists can improve the situation," he said.
About 20 miles away in Jowhar, their last remaining stronghold, secular warlords took up defensive positions two days after being pushed out of the capital in a humiliating defeat that came despite U.S. support for their alliance, which has said it wants to root out terrorists.
If militiamen capture Jowhar and consolidate power in Mogadishu, the Islamic Courts Union will effectively control all of the major towns in southern Somalia, further isolating the U.N.-backed transitional government in Baidoa, 155 miles from the capital.
Just a few comments;
1.) The very large Somali community in my city is now probile going to be re-enforced by many, many refuges, whom will be sponsered by liberal mainline churches. They will come to the USA to escape the implementation of Islam in all its primal bloody,glory and then get here and decide they want to Islamize the USA because in the end to them were all a bunch of racist,decadent kufirs.No matter what we do, short of converting I suppose. 2.) Is there more to Bush's statement about not letting Somalia not being lost to Al Qaida? He couldn't be, he wouldn't considering more nation building a democracy is he? Lets hope not. Lets just give the less evil guys guns and let them sort it out. As Hugh frequently notes when these types are otherwise engaged its a win,win for us.
3.)Please can we get off the Al Qaida kick? Please? Do it for the children.

Interesting they report how the secular warlords are getting financial aid from the U.S. However they don't mention that it's very likely Somali islamist are getting financial and most likely "boots on the ground" help from arab jihad groups.
I imagine that it's just a matter of time before Islam takes over the rest of Somalia.

A Somali cabdriver laughingly told a friend of mine whom he had picked up at the airport about his other Somali friends, one with "several wives" and "sixteen children" (I think that was the figure, but could be off by one or two) who had managed to figure out a way for all of the wives and all of the children to receive welfare (great mirth at this, as my friend listened in horror) while he himself, the driver, had managed to make do with only "one wife so far" and "eight" (I think that was the figure) children" also receiving all kinds of benefits. My friend, who was not American (which is perhaps why he was the recipient of these confidences) listened in horror, especially as the driver went on a tone of contempt for those "stupid Americans" over whose collective eyes so much Somali wool could be pulled.
Perhaps others have anecdotal evidence similar to this. Perhaps the INS should set up an office where such information (no, the horrified listner got out without taking down the Hack License Number) can be received, and investigated. Citizens can supplement an undermanned force. And while there are all kinds of problems, priority should be given to those likely to promote, through Da'wa, through the swelling of Muslim ranks, the Jihad that has already brought about in Western Europe a situation for the indigenous non-Muslims that is far more unpleasant, expensive, and physically dangerous, than would be the case without a large Muslim population.
Nothing is owed to the Somalis. There is no reason to permit the holier-than-thou preeners who sponsor such "refugees" -- refugees who may be fleeing warfare and economic backwardness and Sharia -- all of them prompted by the teachings, attitudes, atmospherics of Islam, but who behave as no other refugees do. Those fleeing the Nazis did not turn out to be little Nazis, "moderate" Nazis, singing the praises of "the Germans" and telling us all, from 1936-1945, that "you know, Hitler and the others are extremists but really we Chermans do need Lebensraum and those Jews really are unser Ungluck, as Treitschke said, "our misfortune." No, they came, and campagined against the Nazis, and tried to warn us.
And the refugees from Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union did not come to tell us that "Communism was okay, it was just Stalin and later Suslov and 'the extremists'" who were bad. Not at all. They came to warn us, and inform us about Communism.
That is mpt trie about those who arrive from Muslim countries. They may have suffered from the distempers of Islam -- the despotism, the inshallah-fatalism, the totalitarian Total Regulation of Life, the habit of mental submission that one may not even recognize -- but they have never made that connection. Like Muslims everywhere who exploit the technology of the West, but fail to understand either the reasons why Muslim countries produce nothing (except for oil, and some agricultural products), and fail furthermore to understand the larger civilizational advances -- in human rights, in individual expression -- that far more than mere gadgetry, define the difference between Islam and not the West, but now the entire Rest.
The Mayor of Lewiston Maine who a few years ago spoke the truth about the drain on his impoverished city by the arrival of so many Somalis, with their large families and often impossible demands on the local budgets (so that the local poor were scanted as a result) was criticized though he was correct in his observations.
He did not add, for he was no doubt unaware of, the way that swelling Muslim ranks causes politicians to trim what they say, prevents non-Muslims from organizing for their own self-defense, and little by little undercuts our own society. Muslim immigration to the Lands of the Infidels is, whether conscious or not, an instrument, a weapon, of Jihad. It is a weapon easily removed, if only Western governments will begin to speak truthfully about the contents of Qur'an and Hadith, and the Model of Muhammad, and about why it makes sense to limit or halt the numbers of those who enter into, and settle behind, what they themselves regard as enemy lines. It makes no sense to increase a civilizational problem, one that makes our own lives, just as the lives of the Europeans from whose experience of the last 30 years ought to have taught us a salutary lesson, more unpleasant, expensive, and physically insecure.
We owe Somalis, Iraqis, and others absolutely nothing. Let them stay in their own countries, or move to other Muslim countries, where since they share the supremely defining feature of Muslims -- that is, their belief-system -- they may join fellow members of the Umma al-Islamiyya among whom, by the way, are many of the recipients of the most fabulous transfer of wealth in human history. Surely Saudi Arabia and the Gulf statelets, not to mention Iraq and Iran and Libya and Algeria and other members of OPEC, can take in some fellow Muslims. Isn't that what the whole idea of that single "Umma" is all about?
The heads and hands and feet and noses will surely roll now.
Good to see the Muslims there trying to keep Somalia on top of the worst country in the world list!
They still don't get it when it comes to understanding why Westerners had little compassion for them after the Tsunami.
Also, after the Global Islamic Leaders blamed the Tsunami on a Jewish plot that used a Nuclear bomb on the Ocean floor to kill the Muslims, charity Org's said they had a 40% default rate on pledges .
No sh*t Sherlock , are we supposed to be happy our store was robbed because the criminal may come back one day a buy something from us .
