UK: 250 officers in huge anti-jihad raid; one man shot

Allah over at HotAir is saying it was a raid on a chemical bombmaking factory. In any case, it is the biggest anti-jihad raid since the July 7 bombings. "Man shot in anti-terrorism raid," from the BBC, with thanks to all who sent this in:

A 23-year-old man has been shot by police during a house raid involving 250 officers carried out early on Friday under the Terrorism Act.

The man, who was later arrested, was taken to hospital after the search in Forest Gate, east London. His injuries are not life-threatening....

The operation was not linked to the London bombings of July 2005, police have said.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Peter Clarke, head of the Met's anti-terror branch, said the operation was planned in response to "specific intelligence".

"Because of the very specific nature of the intelligence we planned an operation that was designed to mitigate any threat to the public either from firearms or from hazardous substances," he said.

He said the purpose of the raid was to prove or disprove intelligence they had received.

BBC home affairs correspondent Daniel Sandford described it as the most significant anti-terror operation this year.

The 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism as he was being treated at the Royal London hospital.

The 20-year-old man was being questioned at Paddington Green police station.

Police officers in protective clothing have moved into the terraced house in Lansdown Road in what is being described as a "precautionary measure"....

Meanwhile, a group of around 20 Asian men have gathered outside the gates of the Royal London hospital to protest at what they believe was heavy handed treatment by the police in the raid.

BBC home affairs correspondent Danny Shaw said the raids follow an investigation into international terrorism targeting the UK....

One neighbour said the operation early this morning had involved "the most police I've seen in my life".

And here's the obligatory They-Were-Wonderful-People riff:

Another neighbour said a family lived at the address.

"They were respectable and nice people and we do not know anything else. They have always been nice to us," she said.

"They have lived there for a long time. The kids all go to school locally."

"They have lived there for a long time. The kids all go to school locally."
-- from the article above, part of the proof adduced as to the seeming trustworthiness of the people picked up

Oh, that's okay then. It's the ones who send their children off to boarding schools you have to watch out for.

I saw it on Al Beebeeceeraa: "A man was shot..."

"...Meanwhile, a group of around 20 "Asian men" have gathered..."

"...many young Mohammedans have become 'more religious' since 9/11..."

If it wasn't for Al Reuters and Al Bebeceeraa I guess we would start believing something is wrong, like some conspiracy theory...

like, I think I need another downer....

love means killing for allah....blood for allah the demon is thirsty........................200 Pakistanis demand death sentence for man accused of burning a Quran

About 200 angry Pakistanis on Friday circled the house of a man accused of burning a copy of Islam's holy book, and demanded he be killed, until police dispersed their protest, an officer said.

The Muslim protesters accused Abdul Jabbar, a 45-year-old fruit vendor, of black magic and of burning a Quran in a vacant plot near his house in a poor neighborhood of the eastern city of Lahore, said Amir Zulfikar, the city police chief. (AP)

Wow ! The British are getting active. Two major raids in a week.

"They have lived there for a long time. The kids all go to school locally."

Thus the danger that is Islam and Muslims. There are too many among us. Living in our communities. Scouting our weakness. And at the same time doing nothing to earn our trust, but getting it anyway. Taking our kindness for weakness. When are we going to see the threat that is Islam and see Muslims for what they really are? When? After the next terrorist attack on our soil? by then it may be too late.

The footage I've seen so far on the beeb is wierd. All kinds of women are milling about in the street with all kinds of shrouds and veils. And while the bobbies make it look like London, and all the nice brick houses with white trime make it look like London, the walkers by make it look like Riyadh, or Islamabad, or Kabul. And the women are each accompanied by little boys and no little girls are to be seen. I don't see any men milling about, only those in the UK police.

It is a surreal snapshot of a crime in progress on so many levels that the mind boggles.

"They were respectable and nice people and we do not know anything else."

Yeah, sure. Right. Heard that one before...

Those damned "Asians" again! When will the Brits ever catch that Insidious Dr. Fu Manchu and his lascivious lascars? A boatload of them were seen canoeing down the Thames in search of ...

Oh, wait, by "Asians" do they mean Muslims, mainly from the Indian sub-continent? (AKA Pakistan?) Why do they Brits have so much trouble with geography and religio-political definitions?

Every time I read this journalistic "Asians" camouflage, I'm picturing hordes of Chicoms or ninjas slithering up the banks of the Floss (see: "The Mill On The..."), not Mohammedans in Picadilly.

Life in prison for the perps.

Since the Brits a re too scilly (as in Isle of) to p/reserve the death penalty even for mass-murdering terrorists, or seditious terrorist-wannabes caught before they deliver the death).

I'm sure it's all just a big misunderstanding.....

OR...

...they are just zionists attempting to make Muslims look bad....

Or...

Oh, wait, by "Asians" do they mean Muslims, mainly from the Indian sub-continent? (AKA Pakistan?)

"Asians" in British English generally means people - Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, whatever, from the Indian sub-continent. We don't usually use the term for people from the Far East.

The BBC use it as a euphemism for "Muslims", which annoys Hindus and Sikhs.

Why do they Brits have so much trouble with geography and religio-political definitions?

We don't. It's you lot that get it all wrong.

Interested,
You mean to say that the Brits have different opinions than the PC media ?

I am just waiting for the ensuing riots because one of the Mujahdeen got taken down by the police.

Come on Islamoslimes start the car burning, so we can start retaliating.

Also sprach Methuselah : "Bash your allies why don't you? I'm sick and tired of the ignorance and arrogance of _______ posters here when they generalise about _______." (actually posted by: Interested at May 24, 2006 03:41 PM)

I know it must be embarassing to have a scene like this unfold in London(istan)... your fabulous Capitol is looking more and more like Beirut... (well, at least those "chemicals" didn't flattened 4 square blocks yet, so maybe not exactly like Beirut)

So why lash out at us? Seems you should be angry with the "Asians" and the non-European English Press, non-European English Politicians, and non-European English academics who thought all those musselmen would be good crack...

jsla

LOL ;-)

Perhaps my postings have too light a touch for the jslas of this world.

All of these billions of dollars being spent on surveillance and anti-terror activity in these democratic countries could be spent elsewhere, but a bunch of dumb asses thought that it would be neighborly to invite Muslims to live in our communities. Now look, where there's trouble, a Muslimist won't be far away. Muhammad must be proud.

Ring....Ring....Hello...Yes ...Yes.....This is President Bush...Who?.....Yes.....Hello Mahmoud.....The letter....Yes...I read it....Islam?.......well to tell the Truth Mahmoud...I am kinda locked to this Bible stuff.....CHAOS.....BOMBS?.....Allah strike terror in hearts?......What do you Mean?...Hold on...Dick..Dick can you call a Focus group and study this 12th Imam and terror thing....Yeah Mahmoud is on the phone...I need to know what he really Means...Mahmoud I'll call you back after the Focus group...kay...Bye Bye.......In the Wee morning of the White House.

Feign lightness if that's all you can do.

Jsla - give it a rest. You're a literal-minded bore.

Ooops. Dropped the mask.

NOTE TO..REUTERS,BBC,CNN,MSNBC AND NEW YORK TIMES....PLEASE CALL MAHMOUD AND TELL HIM THIS IS NOT A WAR WITH ISLAM....HE DOESN'T GET IT..........Ahmadinejad:

Enemies of Islamic World Shouldn't Be Allowed to Speak for Muslim States

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that the enemies of the world of Islam are seeking to impair relations of the Islamic countries, and further stressed that the enemies should not be allowed to speak for Muslim states.

Speaking during a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) here on Thursday, Ahmadinejad stressed that the general conditions dominating the world are changing to the benefit of the world of Islam, adding that the change could be accelerated by proper management.

He said that the might and progress of the Islamic world would serve man's peace and security.

Hmmmm... call it just a hunch, but I'll bet the man shot by police is named Mohammed..........

"Meanwhile, a group of around 20 Asian men have gathered outside the gates of the Royal London hospital to protest at what they believe was heavy handed treatment by the police in the raid."

As usual, politically correct people have decided to include Indians, Sri Lankans, people from the Far East etc in this group of 20 Asians. Any guesses on what religion each of these 20 Asians follow? I think they are all Buddhist monks exiled from Tibet after the Chinese invasion. After all, they are the ones creating terror in Israel, London, NY, Spain, India, Indonesia and even Australia!!

More Muslim outrage! Protests!

Rumor has it, that a policeman actually used the inhumane, heavy-handed tactic of raising his tone of voice to near-disrespectful levels.

So the 23 year-old man who was shot did not appear to have sustained life-threatening injuries. If it turned out he was a jihadist, that would be tragic news indeed...

"Asians" in British English generally means people - Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, whatever, from the Indian sub-continent. We don't usually use the term for people from the Far East.

So where's South East Asia? The South east corner of the sub-continent?

To the best of my recollection there was a time when "Asian" most often, if not always, meant "from the Far East" in the UK as elsewhere in the English-speaking world. It would take a lot of examples from original sources across the past century or so to convince me that usage ever was as the BBC would have it now.

I suspect that the current "British" usage is, as has been remarked above by jsla and others, a usage the BBC has attempted to impose on the public - because it serves to conceal.

Asian????.......I thought Muslims were Youths...

In defense of jsla, I lived in London for three years and Indian and Pakistani communities were always referred to as, "Asian." Funny thing is I do not recall the Chinese communities being referred to as "Asian," rather they were just "Chinese."

As for Robert's posting "And here's the obligatory They-Were-Wonderful-People riff"...

This just in from Reuters:

Said an elderly woman who has lived in the neighbourhood for over forty years, "Why, I thought they were just lovely boys. They took a keen interest in my garden. When I complained that my tulips and gardenias just would not bloom quite fully, they came over straight away with just the right fertilizers to sprinkle on my garden. They measured everything so precisely and seemed to take great care in applying the chemicals to my seasonals and perrenials. Look at my garden now! Thanks to those two lovely boys, my flowers have never been so full and vibrant. Why the BBC has been here thrice in the past year alone to film my gardenias for the Gardener's Road Show. These boys, terrorists? Bah! Who will they come for next, the Vicar?"

Out here, in the US, the term "Asian" typically includes Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Malay and other parts of South East Asia, but typically does not include Japanese, Koreans or Indians. Who knows where that's from?

Also, I thought that the term "Asian" as an adjective was mainly American, and that the Brits used the term "Asiatic" like in the "Asiatic Society". Since when did the Brits start using the word "Asian"?

Regardless, the use of a common term to lump Infidels with Muslims is not just insulting, but down and out dangerous, since in the above case, it would cause Hindus/Sikhs to be mistaken for Muslims. Why can't the BBC and the other media simply use their countries - Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis - is it that complicated? As it is, Indian Muslims don't go anywhere other than the Gulf states - that's the only region that Muslims of Indian citizenry can be found.

OT: On the Sayeeda Warshi issue, the Tories need to figure out whether they want Hindu support or Muslim support. They can't have both.

I am amazed at the gall of "Asian" terrorist sympathisers who dare publicly support terrorist suspects in the middle London. You'd think they'd try to keep a low profile, but why should they? They know their hosts are weak and stupid.

From a posting above:

Same can be said about certain Toronto neighborhoods. It is amazing to compare
today's Toronto to the one only 10 years ago.

There was a strong police presence on the rail line running through this area this morning, but it was quieter this evening.
Unfortunately (fortunately more like) I no longer have friends living nearby, (very near the Ruskin Arms pub where iron Maiden started their career) so I can't report anything more detailed.
I'm just glad that none of the police were hurt, that so far there is no spillage of whatever it is they are looking for, and that intelligence is coming up with useful stuff.

Dont the Brits have the equivalent of SWAT? I think that sending hundred of street cops to arrest a handful of terrorist suspects sends the wrong message.

They would be specially trained firearms officers. The street cops, the bobbies on the beat, in the UK aren't armed - except with batons.

After the September 11 attacks the older brother started taking his religion more seriously, grew a beard and started praying five times a day ...

The British ARE getting active. THREE major raids in a week.

See The Local / Swedens News in English

"British Police in Gothenburg (Sweden) 'Terror' Raid".

It is a surreal snapshot of a crime in progress on so many levels that the mind boggles.

In response to jsla's post above, that picture is just a tiny example of the demographics of modern Britain. The only white ppl in my 'hood are East Europeans. They're a small minority. Everyone else is Moslem. Some posters here might be quite reasonably suspicious when I mention my Moslem freinds. But this is simply because the working classes in my area, as in much of the UK, has been completely usurped by Moslem immigrants. If I didn't have Moslem freinds I'd be even more of a loner than I already am... But I have heated discussions with them, I discuss the reports posted here, and there's nothing I'd say here that I wouldn't or dont say to them in person.

The fact that they argue back on such issues of black-and-white morality just shows how deep these problems run amongst our Moslem population. I don't think my mates are terrorists, and if I did I'd shop 'em in in an instant. But they are antisemitic, anti-American, anti-anything that runs counter to the overall Jihadist ideology. And also, highly ignorant of Islamic theology (and all theology in general). They're only taught a handful of sura's at school, and most can't or won't read Qur'an in languages they understand. And so much of the normal discourse of Moslems is simply lies - about their own religion and others - and conspiracy theories, and anti-Western propaganda that fills the gap in their knowledge of their own culture. The Moslems I know have no idea about all the hatred implicit in their religious texts. When I point it out they question the translation (ie. it's a Jooish conspiracy).

Most Moslems will regard today's news as an attack on the Ummah. The snide platitudes of these terrorist's neighbors "...they were respectable and nice people..." are broadly representative of what the rest of British Islam(tm) is thinking. They're religious, ergo they're innocent. We have some difficult public debates ahead...

That's very interesting about Sweden. Thanks.

...and what really gets my goat are all the pundits on telly saying that it's our foreign policy that's to blame. This is just pusilanimously folding to the Jihadists, it's simply conceding to the terrorists startegy and accepting whatever they say are thier "reasons", when this kind of of manipulation is their actual aim.

Some idiot "expert" is on Skynews right now saying Israel has a massive Nuclear arsenal and nothing's being done about it, so of course Moslems are becoming militant. What a dipstick. What a tool.

Where do you even start with idiots like these? Why are they even given airtime? Sooo frustrating.

I hope the prayer-room wasn't desecrated!

Sorry, but did they actually FIND something? I can't extract anything that links them to terrorism.

Swissy, its called the koran and it links 1.2 billion of them to terrorism.

Yojimbo - yes, of course we refer to South East Asian, meaning what used to be called "Oriental". However, the term "Asian" used on its own in the UK generally denotes people from the Indian subcontinent, and not just as used by the BBC. The BBC, however, use it when they really mean "Muslim" to cover up the fact that Islam is the problem. This, rightly, annoys Hindus and Sikhs.

Code words. LOL. Youths and asians. I think we need to send a copy of Elements of Style to the BBC and SKY news. This is not using the active voice. Youths. Asians. How about Muzzies or Muslims, or The Prophet's bad boys. I have nothing against creativity, but youths or asians is pure Orwell.

19 youths, rumored to be asian militants, were behind 911. I'm going to start calling my dog a youth.

biorabbi

Not entirely accurate. 19 youths, but only 18 Asians - Mohammed Atta was from Africa.

Just as a reminder, which was the fifth country? We had KSA-15, Egypt-1 (Md Atta), Lebanon-1 (Ziad Jarrah), UAE-1. Which was the other? Qatar? Kuwait? Yemen?

The London Bangladeshis don't seem to have been involved in terrorism up to now - it's been mainly Pakistanis. If they are becoming active it's a bit worrying as about 150,000 of them live in the area immediately adjacent to London's central financial district.

Good point wally. Gorgeous George's diocese. I mean ward. I mean diocese. No doubt he's been whipping up a veritable furore of interfaith tolerance and nationalist pride.

Another neighbour said a family lived at the address.
"They were respectable and nice people and we do not know anything else. They have always been nice to us," she said.
++++++++++++++++

This sounds like a good epetiths for their tombstones after the wmds and nukes go off.

I guess the test for "niceness" is pretty easy to pass these days. What do these neighbours know that the police don't?

"If they are becoming active it's a bit worrying as about 150,000 of them live in the area immediately adjacent to London's central financial district."

The unforgiving minute cometh.

Yes that is quite an enclave '150,000'

jsla maybe right.

Archimedes I agree, the whole area should be under constant surveliance now. They have shown themselves not to be trusted.

The real tragedy is the Brits in London can not defend themselves, if a quarter of an enclave of 150,000 rioted it would overwhelm their police forcing the military to spin up. By the time they ended the massacre, London would be in flames. Here in the US armed citizens would make the difference. It would still be a massacre but the enclave would be in flames and massive amounts of airline tickets would be purchased to the Middle East from unaffected areas. Just remember BBH.

There was a strong police presence on the rail line running through this area this morning, but it was quieter this evening.
Unfortunately (fortunately more like) I no longer have friends living nearby, (very near the Ruskin Arms pub where iron Maiden started their career) so I can't report anything more detailed.

Granny Weatherwax, remember you always have a refuge on the Wirral.

Ronin' this is a warning to freedom loving Americans do not, repeat do not allow yourselves to be disarmed. When governments control your well fare you are subject to their demands.

Ronin, lets see if the UK Islamists have the same strategy as the Islamists in France.

These are very similar conditions to the Paris Intifada.

I predict they will at least make some attempt to replicate the same response. 20 already at it this afternoon at the hospital.

This is déjà vu, waiting for a fight you know is coming, wishing it would go away and wanting it to start so you could end it.

1.2 billion, sigh, I might need a little help. Everyone draw pictures of old mohammad in front of your homes, when these idiots see it and stop from the fear of stepping on it, aim for their heads. As big as they are it will be an easy shot.

l hope the conservative government in Canada does away with the long gun regisry, its a costly farce.
l still have my father's hunting guns, good enough to stop any crazy terrorist in their tracks.

Check out the hooded looking gents towards the end of this sky news video clip.

It is a high probability they have the weapon stashed somewhere else.

Note the pejorative disassociation of citizenship implicit in their crassly-worded prepared statement "..he went to your schools, he went to your workplaces..." ie. it's our society, not theirs. As for the "present" we've given him "a hole in the chest" - what of his present no doubt intended for our commuters? And everyone has to go to school, go to work, and pay taxes - it's kind of a legal obligation, not some great gift of gratitude for granting him and his clan citizenship, employment... and chemistry lessons.

As usual, we kufr are weilding our own self-inflicted terrorism as a weapon of persecution against the ever-victimised Ummah. So if their camera-shy coleagues do have the vest, they've now got all the justification they need to use it...

Animus it should make for an interesting summer. I guess it will come down to the longevity of the device.

In the second wave of the July underground bombings the weapons were unsuccessful. A similar pattern could exist here.

However I think if it went off a large number of the population would still come down on the bombers side.

Time will tell.

And did those feet? I do like your nickname. And thank you.

I'm afraid I was being inaccurate when I said 150,000 Bangladeshi lived right next to the City:
the 154,000 Bangladeshis in London are more distributed than I realised: the figure for Tower Hamlets is 60,000 with another 20,00 next door in Newham and perhaps 20,000 more strung out through Hackney and Camden. For a detailed breakdown, see:

http://www.bl.uk/collections/business/asianpoplon1.html

Good news, WallyUK. Thanks for the correction. I count 93,000 immediately adjacent. Certainly slightly less altogether bone chillingly bad.
