Profiles of two of the Canadian jihadists: "After escaping war in Somalia, terror suspects grew up in Toronto," from the National Post (thanks to Joaquim). We hear, unsurprisingly, that both were devout Muslims, although we're assured that one of them was not "that kind." But a devout attachment to Islam runs like a green thread through every story of every jihad terrorist who has ever been profiled -- and yet it remains the first thing that investigators and analysts discount, because we all know that this is a tiny minority of extremists that has hijacked the religion of peace.
Well, it is long past time to reexamine that assumption.
TORONTO -- They came to Canada as children when their homeland Somalia fell into war and chaos. They now stand accused of taking part in a terrorist plot against the country that gave them refuge. Two of the 17 Toronto men charged with terrorism-related offences over the weekend, Yasin Abdi Mohamed, 24, and Ali Mohamed Dirie, 22, are Somali refugees who came to Canada with their families in the early 1990s....
"Yasin (is) very religious. Every day he prays," his mother, Asha Muhayadin, said, pointing to the holy book she said her son read every morning.
Mohamed would admonish his siblings for not praying more often, she recalled. "He told his brothers, `You wake up, you never say thanks to God. Are you animals?"'
"My brother's a broad-minded guy that had goals for his future," Abdul said. He was never violent, he added. "He's never stabbed, shot anybody. From that to plotting on killing people, that's insane. It must be because of his last name."
The Dirie family fled Somalia in the late 1980s after their city was levelled in an aerial bombardment.
Dirie was eight years old when he arrived in Toronto as a refugee. His father had been dragged out of the family home during the Somali civil war and killed.
In his own words, Dirie had a "bad temper" when he was young, and was often angry. He was in and out of various schools.
"When he was young, he was trouble," said his younger brother Jafar, 18. But Ali was changing, he said.
"He was trying to become a better person spiritually," Jafar said. "He was learning about the religion." He began devoting more time to studying Islam and donned a white kameez and cap.
But Ali was not an extremist, his brother said. "No, he wasn't that type."
Mohamed's mother, who knows Dirie, agreed, saying, "Ali, he didn't believe like that."
"Yasin is very religious. Every day he prays" - Yasin's mother
What's her point? The same could be said of my grandparents. But somehow I just don't remember Grandma building a fertilizer bomb...
Clear, Somalia this islamic paradise for everybody.
Refugees from war-torn Somalia, where the natural despotism, inshallah-fatalism, and violence of Islam drove them away, but unlike the refugees from the Nazis and the Communists who embraced their British or American or Canadian saviors with gratitude that at times even embarrassed the locals.
These "refugees" from Somalia are nothing like like those we think of as "refugees." No Panofsky, no Rosenberg, no Friedlander, no Hans Bethe or Mark Kac. No Max Ernst, Marcel Duchamp, Alexandre Kojeve or Koyre, no St. John Perse getting out of France. No Roman Jakobson or his brother the librarian, no Aldanov, no Balanchine, no Nabokov, no Roman Grinberg, no Weinbaum (Andrey Sedykh), no Boris Pregel, no Stravinsky. No Panofsky, no Jakob Rosenberg, no Wolfgang Friedlander. No Edward Teller, no John von Neumann, no Leo Szilard from Hungary. No Thomas Mann, or Klaus Mann, or Katia Mann, or Elizabeth Mann Borghese.
No, these are not "refugees" eager to embrace what makes Canada Canada, America America, the West the West. They are people who carry with them a belief-system inimical to that West. They do not come to support that system, but to undo it. And undo it they will, merely by their presence and swelling numbers, which will allow them to flourish, and to inhibit any discussion of what Islam inculcates, what Islam has meant, historically, for the non-Muslims in the lands conquered, from Spain to East Asia, over 1350 years.
There will a raid, here and there, when overt acts of terrorism are planned. But so what?
The Canadian government, the official Canadian line, what people think they should think and say, has not changed. A few bad eggs. A few people affected by "Al Qaeda" -- no, not Al Qaeda, but the Qur'an, the Hadith, the example of Muhammad. That's what affected them. That's what explains the outrageous defense of them by other Muslims. That's what explains the phony victimization offered up by other Muslims, who were not caught plotting, but who do not denounce the plotting, or the teachings that prompted it.
And until that happens, more of these dangerous enemies of the laws, customs, manners, ways of thought, that make a place like Canada so welcome to all kinds of people, Buddhists from Vietnam or Korea, Hindus from India or Malaysia, Chinese, black African Christians, people from Brasil and Bolivia, who come, and who fit in, eventually, as readily as do immigrants from Europe. But there is one exception, in Canada and the United States, as everywhere else -- as in Great Britain, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Australia. Everywhere it is the same problem, unique to that particular group, defined by a belief-system that those whose duty it is to protect and instruct us keep pretending does not exist, does not teach what it teaches, does not supply not only those tenets, but just as importantly a whole set of attitudes and atmospherics that, for all Infidels everywhere, represent a permanent menace, a permanent risk.
"Ali, he didn't believe like that."
Actually MOM, he did believe JUST LIKE THAT - you even pointed out his book of war for us.
Denial. The media and Muslims are in near-total denial of what they have in their midst.
Here are some brief initial descriptions of most of the suspects.

The leftist media is now working hard to try and discredit the bits of information given to them by the police, while presenting a sunny positive view of Islam. The CTV morning show Canada AM harped on the claim of defence lawyers that these young men were "entrapped" into buying 3 tonnes of ammonium nitrate. The Toronto Star is trying to portray the "display" of armed security personel as "theatre" to try and influence public opinion and therefore bias the subsequent legal trial.
That is, the Toronto Star is essentially accusing the police of trying to bias the outcome of the trial.
His father had been dragged out of the family home during the Somali civil war and killed. They came to Canada as children when their homeland Somalia fell into war and chaos.” I wonder what caused that war. Can we have a hint?
It is the stupidity of our immigration policies, Canadian, American or British. We accepted refugees from either side of the conflict whether Islamic or Christian on the theory that both sides were capable of an equality of violence towards the other. We accepted refugees without regard to their race, religion, color, sex or national origin. We accepted refugees without regard to their hate of the west or anything western which in large measure was the start of their "civil" war to begin with. Once again the journalists deserves an "F." Start emailing journalists Stewart Bell and Adrian Humphreys, when you read articles like this one one that they both get an F in journalism. I have started routinely flaming journalists who like them telling them why they are ignorant or irresponsible and telling them I am assigning them a F in journalism.
And who was it he prayed to? What does this "god" demand from devoted followers?
It is time for westerners to find out, it is not hard.

Go ahead, find out for yourselves.
P.S. Don't forget to read these hadiths...

In Islam, the Arabic word sunnah has come to denote the way Prophet Muhammad (saas), the alleged Messenger of Allah, lived his life. The Sunnah is the second source of Islamic jurisprudence, the first being the Qur'an. Both sources are indispensable; one cannot practice Islam without consulting both of them. The Arabic word hadith (pl. ahadith) is very similar to Sunnah, but not identical. A hadith is a narration about the life of the Prophet (saas) or what he approved - as opposed to his life itself, which is the Sunnah as already mentioned.
From the NP article Archimedes linked to:
"Durrani, of 10 Stonehill Court in Scarborough, Ont., was born into the Muslim faith, but did not fully embrace it until he was in high school, said Ali Khan, who attended Stephen Leacock Collegiate Institute in Scarborough with Durrani.
"When he converted to the full of Islam he was very vulnerable. What he knew about Islam, his ideas and everything, were still raw. They weren't formulated, they weren't refined," said Khan. "That's the time when people approach you the most once you've found that true calling and you go toward true Islam.”"
To repeat: and you go toward TRUE ISLAM
Daniel Pipes coined the term "Sudden Jihad Syndrome". It needs to be fleshed out. Taking this article, plus the one Archimedes linked to, here is further support for possible criteria for the syndrome I have suggested before:
1.Resides in the democratic west.
Check
2. Evidences personality changes since 9/11.
“Kim Bastarache, who lives across the street, said Jamal's wife used to dress in long, floral-print gowns without a veil to cover her head. "After Sept. 11 (2001) she started wearing the full veil," Bastarache said. Jamal's wife came out of the house Sunday afternoon clad in an elaborate gold burka. Only her eyes and wire-rimmed glasses were visible.“
3. Appears more obsessed than before about the plight of the "Palestinian" people and frequently praises the virtues of the Iraqi "resistance".
“Qayyum Abdul Jamal, 43, is described as being angry about Canada's role in Afghanistan”
3. Abandons previous westernized behavior including drinking alcohol, using drugs, attending clubs, listening to rock music.
“When he was young, he was trouble," said his younger brother Jafar, 18. But Ali was changing, he said."He was trying to become a better person spiritually," Jafar said.”
4. Marked increase in the external manifestations of religious devotion including studying the Quran, spending more time at mosque, growing a traditional beard.
"Yasin (is) very religious. Every day he prays," his mother, Asha Muhayadin, said, pointing to the holy book she said her son read every morning.
"He began devoting more time to studying Islam and donned a white kameez and cap."
5. Marked increase in criticism of the behavior, dress and lifestyle of more westernized friends and family.
“Mohamed would admonish his siblings for not praying more often, she recalled. "He told his brothers, `You wake up, you never say thanks to God. Are you animals?"'”
6. Appears calm and more relaxed.
(all the myriad references to how nice and peaceful etc. these guys always are)
7. Has made a recent trip back to the Old Country.
“Jahmaal James travelled to Pakistan in the last year but those who know the Scarborough, Ont., man insist the trip had nothing to do with terrorist training.”
Don't tell me that Muslims could possibly be blind to the signs of those in their midst who are at risk for SJS. They know darned well what is going on.

Ofcourse they know all that goes on. They did before 9/11, the do now and they always will Will they tell? N E V E R!! That is what makes the UMMA. You see.. all Muslims are brothers and sisters. Rest, Kafirs marked for conversion or death. How can Kafirs, who don't convert, be killed if UMMA starts telling on their 'Muslim brothers & sisters'? Besides, a Muslim is prohibited, by Islam, to tell on a fellow Muslim.
So, Caroline, you are on the dot.
