BAGHDAD, Iraq - A suicide car bomber detonated explosives in a crowd of laborers gathered across the street from a major Shiite shrine in southern Iraq Tuesday, killing at least 53 people and wounding 105, officials and witnesses said.
The attacker drove a minivan to where Shiite laborers gather daily to look for work in Kufa, 100 miles south of Baghdad. He offered them jobs, loaded the minivan with volunteers and then detonated the vehicle, Najaf Gov. Asaad Abu Kalal told a Shiite television station.
The blast occurred about 7:30 a.m. across the street from Kufa's gold-domed mosque, police Capt. Nafie Mohammed said. The shrine, located in a congested area of the city, marks the place where Imam Ali, cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad, was mortally wounded.

Kufa is a stronghold of radical anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, whose movement controls the mosque. It appeared the blast was aimed at undermining al-Sadr's position in Iraq's sectarian struggle, much of which has been blamed on al-Sadr's Mahdi Army militia.

The struggle over who is the successor to Mohamed still rages on - whether it will be his Companions or his family. For a long time the Shia have been sidelined, but they are now gathering strength and making their claim. The final battle will be fought between the Sunnis and Shia for control of Mecca. Thats a big fight coming.
What now? How many millions of American troops would it take to prevent this kind of satanic barbarity? Only in the Islamic Ummah. This attack, and all that are like it, to the Muslim mind are the responsibility of America. I used to think Iraq would eventually turn out better for toppling Saddam, but it is clear to me now that these people are benighted beyond hope of redemption.
Just think about this. Someone threw their life away in order to kill all these people. It is beyond incomprehensible. I have heard the Middle East described as a kingdom of lies. I think a kingdom of death is closer to the truth. Long, long ago the human race practiced the most barbaric of rituals, human sacrifice was widespread, infanticide, ritual rape, mutilation and a hundred horrors were the norm. Instead of celebrating life, death was celebrated. Islam has reconnected with this dark path. This is its true strength, they hate live and love death. Theirs is a bloodthirsty God. It is incanted in the Quran over and over. For those who have submitted there is no hope. Conversion and rescue from Islam is the only way to solve the problem, and it will take a strong will and a thousand years.
I don't even know if this is part of this, or a seperate incident. This is the mess iraq is.

The Democracy option has been imposed upon Iraq. In hindsight, it was still the right thing to do. Among other things, it gives us the moral high ground which the American electorate will demand. For full disclosure, I was shocked at the voter turnout and thought that Bush might just pull this one off and change the world.

The common form of democracy prevalent at the moment is representative democracy, in which the citizens do not exercise their right of legislating and issuing political decrees in person, but rather through representatives chosen by them. The constitution of a democratic country will be largely influenced by the needs and wants of its people. Thus, if its people want casinos, bars, gay marriages, prostitution, etc. then with sufficient public pressure, all these vices can be accommodated for. From this, it becomes simple to understand that there can never be scope for a democratic rule from the Islamic point of view.
