Following yesterday's suicide bombing in Tuz Khormato that killed at least 25, another exceptionally lethal attack may suggest a new pattern in sectarian violence in Iraq. Sunni-Shi'ite Jihad Update from AP:
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Dozens of heavily armed attackers raided an open air market Monday in a tense town south of Baghdad, killing at least 41 people and wounding 42, police and hospital officials said.
Some reports put the death toll far higher. Most of the victims were believed to be Shiites.
The attack in Mahmoudiya began about 9 a.m. with a brief mortar barrage, followed by an armed assault by dozens of gunmen. They killed three Iraqi soldiers at a checkpoint, then stormed the market while firing automatic weapons and rocket propelled grenades, police Capt. Rashid al-Samaraie said.
[...]
The attack also sent shock waves through Mahmoudiya, an agricultural center with Shiites living in the town center and Sunnis in the outlying neighborhoods. Frantic relatives milled about the hospital, scuffling with guards and Iraqi soldiers who tried to keep order.
"You are strong men only when you face us, but you let them do what they did to us," one man shouted at a guard.
:)
Definitely Shiites are mass murdered by the Sunni terrorists more than the other way around. The pagan idol named allah must be propitiated with blood of human sacrifice. Hardly different than the pagan Aztecs who engaged in massive human sacrifice to propitiate their sun god, to ensure he would rise each day to bring new life to the earth
Here's the kicker. The Aztecs went to war specifically to capture enemy warriors for human sacrifice. To capture not to kill. This is similar to the Sunni-Zarqawi style terrorists in Iraq who revel in murdering hostages in ritualized display of human sacrifice.
Judaism was a reaction against the human sacrifice of the pagans of that time. The Jews began worshiping G_d rather than bloodthirsty pagan idols.
Islam; Turning its talents inward.
But it's mass murder in a democracy now, that makes all the difference. I just received (again) an email making the rounds that shows how it's more dangerous to live in Detroit or D.C. Right.
Civil war will not be stopped in iraq regardless of the amount of American tax dollars and American soldier's lives lost.
This is a lost cause and will be bush's legacy in history
Shi'ites killing Sunnis, Sunnis killing Shi'ites, considering the very high number of people this represents, it will take a long time for them to exterminate one another.
I believe that the reason for the existance of so many Islamic apologists in the West is that ordinary people cannot fully understand that a "religion" can teach so much hatred. In their minds, there must be another reson, and that reason must be that we have mistreated them for several hundred years. That is what makes websites like JW/DW, Religion of Peace, Faith Freedom Int'l and others so important. If only to educate the skeptics. (I refuse to use any form of "pedagogic.") I have met many people who still believe that Islam is a peaceful religion, and it is distressing.
"You are strong men only when you face us, but you let them do what they did to us,"
'nuff said! pack up the tanks, planes, bullets and most importantly coalition soliders of all governments over there fighting to help the iraqis, and leave those mental cases to their own devices. hugh said it long ago, i used to not agree, but sometime around the beginning of this year i not only saw his logic but have been repeating it.
For Charles Bogle:
Look at Murder stastictics in Detroit and
Washington, D.C.
There ARE MORE MORE MURDERS Per Capita and
there than in all cities of Iraq outside of
Baghdad.
I have NOT SEEN the totals in Baghdad for the
last 90 days, but until the end of 2005, the
same thing was true in Baghdad.
Those are hard and cold FACTS that the Left-wing Media ignores!
lol, Detroit and dc are no gun zones though. Seams like everyone in Baghdad has a weapon.
Charles_in_Texas
You are absolutely right. The crime statistics for major cities in the U.S. like New York, Los Angeles, etc. hover between 500-600 murders each year. (Google it...)
Even the bloated numbers coming from anti-war busybodies are similar and do not separate deaths from criminal activity (ie. insurgents, sectarian violence, etc.)
The care taken by the U.S. and allies has caused a percentage rise in troop casualties but has dramatically reduced instances of civilian deaths by the coalition.
That's perhaps where we have a thing or two to learn from Israel.

I would want a weapon too, especially in D.C. and Detroit.
The right to bear arms is troublesome for those who prey on innocents.

What the "Hank" are you talkin' about?

And if everyone in your neighborhood is not armed, how will they defend themselves?????
Well, Texican how do you defend your selves. With the freedom to choose whom you wish to defend your rights, as Americans we have the Republicans to help somewhat. The democrats at this time are a lost cause. Beware this next election in America, if democrats win the majority in the senate and the congress the first actions taken will be our second amendment rites. Should god forbid hillery get the nod, we're screwed. Funny today my President Mr. George Bush standing for Israel, caught on tape. And you got the hildebeast standing with American Jews, whom don't support Israel. Go figure? Freedom's not free. The Iraqis have not had freedom and therefor don't cherish it at this time. It'll take time, and many losses. But to give up at this time would be a waist and a shame. Some will desire freedom. Most will resist out of fear. When fear is all you've known its hard to change. Most people will take a nanny state any day. Even Americans have become complacent most wont defend their rites, all they want is 99cent gas.
p.s. please forgive spelling, wish I was a thinker instead of a drinker.
I've agreed with Hugh since I read his analysis. No more western lives should be wasted in Iraq. As long as withdrawal was done for the right reasons (and clearly stated to be so), and as long as any emerging islamist power there realised that attacks on Israel or the west will not be tolerated, unfortunately we just don't have the resources to stay there.
Much as I wish we could rescue millions of people there from islamist rule...
