IT WAS exactly 6am and the start of another blisteringly hot summer day when 16-year-old Atefeh Rajabi was dragged from her prison cell and taken to be executed.Every step of the way the troubled teenager plagued by mental problems shouted "repentance, repentance" as the militiamen marched her to the town's Railway Square.
The Iranian judge who had sentenced Atefeh to death was left unmoved as he personally put the noose around her neck and signalled to the crane driver.
Kicking and screaming, Atefeh was left dangling for 45 minutes from the arm of the crane as the crowd sobbed and - under their breath - damned the mullahs.
Atefeh's crime? Offending public morality. She was found guilty of "acts incompatible with chastity" by having sex with an unmarried man, even though friends say Atefeh was in such a fragile mental state that she wasn't in a position to say no.
But Judge Haji Rezaii was determined she should hang, regardless of the rules of international law which say only adults over 18 can be executed, and that the courts have a duty to children and the mentally ill.

It was when Atefeh appeared before Judge Rezaii for a fourth time that she lost her temper - and also her life. In a rage she tore off her hi jab - a headscarf - and told the judge she had been raped and it was his duty to punish her tormentors, not their victim.
Rezaii told her she would hang for her "sharp tongue" and that he would put the noose around her neck himself. It became a personal crusade as he travelled to Tehran and convinced the Supreme Court to uphold his verdict.

The reason for the report 2 years on is that BBC 2 will be showing a documentary about Atefeh Rajabi on Thursday evening 27 July at 9pm.
As I said elsewhere it won't be pleasant entertainment but must be watched.
The programme was shot undercover in Iran using actors to protect some of the witnesses. Radio Times is treating it very seriously.

This is exactly the sort of thing that needs to get out to the masses. THIS is the achilles heel of Islam... we could go through many more 9/11 and 7/7's, and they'll continue to cram the 'religion of peace' crap down our throats... but this -- this they cannot spin. To the list above of hudud punishments, one might add a list of things which are permitted, beginning with that important piece of legislation, Islam-style, that Ayatollah Khomeini made sure was virtually the first law passed by hs new true-blue Islamic regime: the lowering of the marriageable age of girls to nine years.
Is there an Iranian visitor here who might compile such a list of Islamically-legitimated horrors, and mail them to JW, so that they might be put up as an article?
And if there is someone on a Congressional staff who might wish to compile a list of Islamic Republic of Iran's Dos and Don'ts, and arrange to have it read out in Congress, and inserted into the Congressional record, that would be useful.
I hope somebody writes a book about the history of the numerous crimes committed by the mullahs currently ruling Iran. People need to to know not just about the execution of mentally ill minors, but also about the persecution of Bahais, the financing of terrorism and the other human rights abuses committed against the Iranian people as a whole.
Well, I'll believe they damned the mad mullahs under their breaths when I wake up one morning to hear Iran announce that it has had a change of government, seeks normalization with Washington, and delcares for freedom of religion.
I'm still no fan of the idea of going in to fight another war in that country, though. Iran is mountainous, and could well prove to be like China between 1937-45, should non-Iranians attempt the ouster of the hierocracy.
The Iranians figured out how to get into our embassy to hold Americans hostage in the late 70's, so I don't know why they can't figure out someway to get rid of the nuts in charge now. Surely they could storm whereever the mullahs and that nasty president convene and take them out. They are skilled in suicide murdering, weapons and such.
If the younger generation of Iranians are serious about reform and wanting a better life, they need to take matters into their own hands. Why wait for the world to have to destroy their country and leaders for them? I have no doubt the world would be more than willing to assist in setting up a decent (no islam) form of government.

Give credit where it is due, Amnesty International has jumped into the frey and condemned this affair, and why haven't we heard anything about it from right wing news media like Fox, MSNBC,Chicago Tribune, Commentary, Human Events, NRO, Limpballs, Oreilly, Washington Post,etc.?
If I understand correctly, if this girl had filled out a form in the presence of a mullah, or whatever it is one has to do to enter into one of those Shiite "temporary marriages", she would have been considered above reproach. So in effect she appears to have been executed for not filling out the appropriate form. (Though this would have been a bit difficult to do if she was raped, as she said.) Or am I overlooking some subtlety in the majestic structure of the Sharia?
Mr. Spog, muslim males don't need the misyar or muta for rape. They feel it's their right to women's bodies. They can never be prosecuted as long as four other muslim males never testify against them. And as violent as muslim males are, chances are, they would never turn another in. It's pretty pathetic when a victim can offend public morality isn't it?
