Israel hints at a full-scale invasion

As far as I am concerned; if Hezbollah is now part of the Lebanese government than Israel should consider that they are fighting against Hezbollah Guerrillas who are represented by the Lebanese government. That makes at least in part the Lebanese government complicit in the attacks on Israel. The best thing that could happen is for Israel to not only dismantle hezbollah but the Lebanese goverment as well if they are to defeat hezbollah.

The problem here is the willingness of Iran and Syria to re-supply its Lebanese wing of "the party of god." The Jihadist Shiites have calculated that they win if they merely keep secret the number of their dead. The only way to end this is to give Syria and Iran such an adverse lesson from this that thereafter Syria and Iran calculate it can no longer afford to wage war actually or practically. Iran and Syria must lose so totally and so overwhelmingly that their losses will perhaps bring into question whose side god is really on. This is a war against a superstitious ancient warlike people. Their religious idols must be smashed.

If and when Israel does go into Lebanon to take care of Hezbollah, etc (Portable Iran-Syria) business-it would be lovely to see beneath the Israeli flags on the tanks another flag with the words "No Darfur Tragedy for Israel". Make no mistake of it-Israel faces the same genocidal Islamist enemy. Let Israel wield the terrible swift sword against Hezbollah, etc and then wield the terrible swift sword against Iran and Syria. The would-be practitioners of genocide ( Hezbollah, Iran-Syria, and other Islamist killers) must be repaid in their own coin.

The disgusting coverage by the BBC World Service, the nauseating remarks by Javier Solana (who isn't quite sure that Hezbollah can be described as a "terrorist" organization which he says is a "legal" and not "ethical" question, Jacques Chirac (the man who on January 12 of this year said he would not rule out using nuclear weapons to attack any country that harbored terrorists who attacked France), Vladimir Putin (who with a straight face talks of the "civilian casualties" but forgets about the hundreds of thousands of civilians massacred, not by accident but by design, in Chechnya, as a result of a deliberate policy of terra bruciata), has another voice now added to the chorus: Louise Arbour, who in mentioning the ability of somethingoother -- what exactly? -- to punish as "crimes against humanity" the killing of civilians, and whose remarks were taken to refer not only to Hezbollah, that doesn't care where its thousands of rockets hits -- Haifa or Nazareth or anywhere else (do you think, if they could hit Jerusalem, they would hesitate a minute, whatever damage this did to the holy sites of Christians and Jews?), but also to the Israelis.

What nonsense. And how do we know it is nonsense? We all know that the Christian and Druse and Sunni Arab sites, exclusive to them, are not being targetted at all. Only in one case -- that of a truck that the Israelis naturally worried might be moving weaopnry (if you were Hezbollah, you'd be moving your missiles through such places, wouldn't you?), and hit in a Christian neighborhood of Beirut.

The targets are obviously connected to Hezbollah: first, buildings known to be their headquarters or meeting places, sites from which firing of missiles has been detected, radar sites (including circumjacent Lebanese army posts) implicated in the attack on an Israeli ship, bridges and roads that connect the south of Lebanon, now Hezbollahland used as the main, though obviously not only base for missile attacks on Israel, and of course, roads and bridges that are used by Iran and Syria to deliver those 12,000-15,000 missiles, the delivery of which, the movement of which right through Lebanon, the hiding or installation of which, could hardly have escaped the notice of all kinds of Lebanese, who for some reason apparently thought that their government had no duty to do a thing about this, not even make a move, as it had promised to when the Israelis left in 2000, and the outrage by Lebanese who claim that "everything was fine, everything in Lebanon was recovering -- and now this" can only amaze. What did they think was going to happen with those 12,000-15,000 missiles? What did they think those black-balaclaved goose-stepping Hezbollah bezonians, and all those Shi'a whipped up night and day by Al-Manar, even as they were attended to by Hezbollah-sponsored social services? Did they think nothing would heppen? That the missiles were merely symbolic, that Iran and Syria would not direct anything, that the Iranian agents already in Lebanon working with Hezbollah had nothing but Lebanon's permanent peace and tranquillity in mind? The amazing ability of some (not all) Lebanese, including that Saniora whose hallucintations were on display during his speech full of self-pity for a non-existent "Lebanon" (what do the Maronites, or the Greek Orthodox, or the Druse, have in common with the worshippers of Nasrallah, whose goal is the Shari'a, whose way is Islam and only Islam?).

The BBC and the rest of the world's broadcasting networks can continue to avoid noting that the Israelis have made superhuman efforts to warn civilians. They have leafletted Shi'a areas. They have had recorded messages phoning every Shi'a household in southern Lebanon that they can reach, warning people to leave lest they be caught in an attack. They telephoned and warned those at the Beirut Airport a full hour before the attack. The Israelis have every desire, and every need, to limit civilian casualties. The Hezbollah forces, on the other hand, not only have no desire to limit Israel's civilian casualties, but what's more, have no desire to limit the civilian casualties in Lebanon -- they welcome them, they wish to increase them, they have tried to prevent people from leaving their villages, they have always and everywhere planted their missiles in the middle of urban areas, or in the middle of villages, preferably next to schools or hospitals. This is no different from what the PLO routinely did in Beirut in 1980-1982, as we all know. It is par for the Muslim Arab course.

What would you do, if it were your country being shelled, and the regime in a circumjacent country had made solemn commitments that it failed to fulfill, and failed to fulfill over six years, and meanwhile you watch, and watch, and watch, as the missiles pile up in the armories of those who, if they could, would kill every last man, woman, and child in your country. 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 9,000, 12,000, and perhaps, a week ago, as many as 15,000 missiles, almost all from Iran, and including some of an accuracy and power and reach that surprised both the Israeli and American military. [Incidentally, better that the American military, now in Iraq, find out about these missiles now, unfortunately from Israel's sad experience, than suddenly, later, in Iraq].

The way that the BBC or CNN (especially in its European broadcast version, scarcely to be believed in its bias) presents things, with those endless shots of "innocent civilians" and the usual interviews with women, is devoid of any context. The Israelis in Haifa and other cities hit are sober, forthright, businesslike, no screaming, no wailing, no pleas for sympathy. But it is the Israelis who did not wish this, who did nothing to deserve this, who did everything they could, by removing every last soldier from Lebanon, not to leave even a hint of a glimmer of a justification for such attacks.

But of course no justification is needed by Hezbollah. Israel is an Infidel state. Israel must always be attacked, again and again. If it goes back to the 1967 "lines of Auswchwitz" (as even Abba Eban once caled them), the armistice lines within which Israel existed for 19 years in a state of maximum peril, and how much more perilous it would be now, when the Arabs have these missiles, as we have seen. Hezbollah is simply behaving as the Qur'an and Hadith and the Sira all tell its members to behave. Negotiation for "peace" with Israel? What utter nonsense. There is no final "peace" with an Infidel nation. Not with Israel, and not with any other Infidel nation-state that stands in the way.

Stands in the way of what? Of what was written on a placard by a pro-Hezbollah demonstrator and that appeared in the newspaper the other day:

JW/DW readers are pretty well informed folks. But I do want to remind people of the last time hizbullah kidnapped our soldiers. In October 2000, three Israeli soldiers were captured on the northern border by hizbullah and seen alive taken into captivity in Lebanon. A few years later, Sharon made a deal, mainly, it seems because an Israeli colonel suspected of betrayal was taken captive by Hizbullah in a Persian Gulf state. Sharon paid hizbullah a few hundred Arab prisoners to get this colonel back plus the soldiers. The colonel came back alive and was sentenced to jail here. The three soldiers came back dead. In other words, hizbullah trades in dead bodies. The two poor guys that hizbullah took captive last week are probably gone, likewise poor Gil`ad Shalit taken captive by the Hamas in Gaza. Of course, my judgements here are based on the record of both Hamas and Hizbullah.

Now, I want to make some suggestions to my government and army. It might have been best to soften up that hill north of Avivim with mucho artillery before sending in the ground troops. Then, have you thought of setting fire to all areas in the countryside where hizbullah might be hiding, where they might have bunkers, or be lying in ambush? How about burning the poppy fields [for opium, I know, not marijuana] in the Biq`a? How about kindling the fields around all villages known to be Hizbullah strongholds? Wouldn't that save the lives of some of our brave soldiers? The vegetation is very dry at this time of year. Hizbullah's rockets have started in Israeli fields. Why not do the same to fields on their side?

Lastly, I suggest that louise arbour, the "human rights" hypocrite, read up on the laws of war. It is clearly stated that the presence of protected persons [non-combatant civilians] does not forbid attack on military targets, including houses that military persons might be hiding in. It seems that the arbour war criminal only gets sanctimonious about war crimes when she thinks she can pin the label on Israel.

I have no doubts that should Israel invade, then their actual ingress into Lebanon would be easy, since the Hezbollah cowards will adopt the classic guerrilla strategy of melting away to avoid the casualties of head-on confrontation with the IDF.

It's always later on after the invasion that these hit-and-run guerrilla types try to show up, using their IEDs and their snipers and other attrition tactics. That's why if Israel invades, they should not stay long at all. Just go in quick, re-establish the buffer zone and an allied militia like the South Lebanese Army, and then hand over the buffer zone to them really quick and withdraw.

That way, Israel can keep its forces free for home defense and not get bogged down like Bush did in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The problem that we face in modern war is how to target dual-use infrastructure. The enemy's roads, bridges, electrical power grids, etc., are used both by their civilians and by their military. Obviously you want to deprive the enemy's military of the ability to get electricity and to move their trucks and tanks on roads. But if you destroy those facilities, you can be accused of "war crimes" because you are hurting the civilian population's lifestyle too.

Even worse, you obviously want to destroy the enemy's armaments factories and other facilities for constructing military weapons. But civilians work in those facilities. Bomb the enemy's munitions factories and you will kill civilians who work there.

I wish Louise Arbour and her ilk would give some real examples of real past wars, like World War II for example, and explain what "proportionality" would have entailed. Does that mean that Britain had no right to destroy Nazi Germany, only to push it out of France? Does that mean that the U.S. had no right to bomb Japan, only to sink the Japanese Imperial Fleet that had attacked Pearl Harbor?

Human rights advocates are great at spinning theories. But I would like them to explain if we could have won World War II by following their theories.

She herself is part of the problem with her Orwellian exposition of "human rights" used as a political/propaganda weapon. I mentioned above what international law says about civilians in the presence of a military target. They are not protected. This also means that "human shields" are not protected. I believe that "human shields" are combatants, although not bearing arms. In fact, the "human shield" is the weapon, like any shield. This is based on reading the Hague and Amsterdam and Geneva conventions on the laws of war.

Arbour is misrepresenting the law of war, which does not mean that she won't have an impact, unfortunately. Anyhow, she is the UN "human rights commissioner." Such a person is morally corrupt by definition. The UN's HR commission and new HR council are made up of a majority of tyrannies that don't recognize human rights at all. After all, Human rights are universal but Muslim states, for example, hold that non-Muslims are inferior. Indeed, many Muslim states hold to the Islamic Declaration of Human Rights which is their response to the Universal Declaration. The hizbullah of course rejects human rights in principle. I would merely add to VDH's point - so very very much has been made in the press about the sentiments of "the Arab Street". I can't help but wonder whether any of these pundits ever gave 2 seconds thought to the "American street", or the "Israeli Street", or the "Indian Street" - or, in short, the "World Street", which just so happens to represent 4/5ths of the world's population.

Is it a moral act to violently punish a population that tolerates the presence of radicals in their midst? Western societies have placed their combatents in uniforms throught the years in order to protect the civilian population. Watched the film 'Osama' about life under the horrific taliban in Afghanistan (a girl has to go out to try and earn some money to support here widowed mother. Women aren't allowed out without a man, so the girl becomes a 'boy' called Osama - the name is given by a local boy who is trying to give her a 'tough' name to protect her).

Anyway, the full horrors of islam were very clear. And it made me think that these people are so obsessed with religion and need a belief so desperately that perhaps mass conversions would be the only way. Individuals can't safely leave islam, but if whole communities were persuaded to convert to a more peaceful religion...

We still have all of northern Israel living under the threat of missile attacks, Many many children are living in bomb shelters or have been evacuated [that is, have become refugees] to the south and center of the country. Whole families have fled.
If the missile attacks on Israel seem to have diminished in size and scope, then that is because of our military attacks on Hizbullah targets in Lebanon, which may have killed civilians in the Hizbullah-ruled areas, including south Beirut. Most of those fleeing those areas were and still are hizbullah sympathizers, collaborators, etc., as attested by interviews on cnn, sky, bbc, etc.
Hizbullah ideology denies universal human rights in principle and openly favors killing civilians on the other side. Yet this evil louise arbour creature faults Israel for defending itself within the bounds of international law [Hague, Amsterdam, Geneva convetnions]. She does not fault hizbullah for anything, certainly nor for deliberately targeting civilians. She epitomizes the evil that is the UN.

Now, a little more than a week ago about 200 civilians were murdered in Mumbai by terrorists apparently supported by Pakistan. First of all, the international media are so charmed with our local war here [on which the fate of civilization may depend indeed] but the victims in Mumbai are nearly forgotten, with only little news items about the Indian police arresting a few terrorist supporters there. How come louise arbour, out of her boundless love for civilians and respect for their lives, does not condemn Pakistan for possible war crimes against civilians in Mumbai?

Lili, I watched that movie a few months ago and was just sickened from the start of the movie. From the Taliban herding the women to the last sickening scene. It's hard to believe in this day and age there are people who actually live like that. And they can't see that it's islam that is stifling them.

Okey lets get a few things straight

Most libanesse civilians = In little control of who "rules the country", israeli civilians have atleast a democratly elected goverment, but lets not forget that they ALL are civilians.

Now war on terror, whatever you want to call it, is not the same as war on a nation, the difference is clear since it is against a group, a number of individuals who are in their position largely due to chioces they have made themself.

So saying that it is the fault of a libanesse civilian if he gets killed in some random attack by the israeli is wrong, he made no choice to end up it that situation, other than possibly flee out of the country he was born in because of things he could do notihng about, and that even before knowing what was happening, since israel in their hunt for terrorists have cut of most routes in and out of southern libanon.

I think rather than the dear love of these two soldiers, i think the real reason israel invaded hizbollah was so that they could give their extremly oversized military something to do, and give people a good reason to give more money to them. I think it is sad that israel sees no other solution to this problem than try and complete destroy libanon any way they can, and i think it is sad that hizbollah cannot use diplomatic means.

I do however think that people should consider what terrorist really "means"(since no word has a universal meaning i am referring to what YOU think it means) and to who you should put it on and not, israel clearly doesn not hesitate killing civilians in order to do what they think needs to be done, are they not terrorists as much as hizbollah?
