The Maronite dhimmi and Syrian puppet Emile Lahoud parrots his masters' line. Note how he slithers away from the question of the Lebanese army's control of the southern part of the country, and openly supports the Hizballah jihadists. "'Hezbollah Freed Our Country,'" from Der Spiegel, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:
Lebanese President Emile Lahoud, 70, tells DER SPIEGEL about how the current conflict is affecting his country, the role of the Lebanese army and his relationship with Shiite militia Hezbollah.SPIEGEL: Mr President, you are the commander-in-chief of the Lebanese army. Lebanon finds itself in the middle of a war, but it is being fought by a militia in the south of the country. Where is the regular army?
Lahoud: I myself built up this army following the civil war and integrated all the religious groups: Muslims, Christians and Druze. This army is there to secure internal peace, but it is not an army to fight a war.
SPIEGEL: United Nations Resolution 1559 demands that the army should control the whole country -- up to the border with Israel.
Lahoud: It (the army) does that. But it wasn't the army that freed the occupied south of the country, rather it was the resistance which achieved that. Without this resistance Lebanon would still be occupied today.
SPIEGEL: You're talking about Hezbollah. But Israel's withdrawal happened six years ago. Why has the state still not fulfilled the task set by the UN?
Lahoud: Naturally the strongholds of the resistance are not known. Despite the hail of bombs, the Israelis have been unable to produce one single photo of a destroyed resistance base, because they don't know where they are. Army bases, on the other hand, are well known and this is why they are invariably destroying our armed forces and, above all, civilian targets.
They are destroying civilian targets because Hizballah works from civilian areas, in order to score propaganda points whenever Israel counterattacks. Dhimmis like Lahoud are the ones who bear the responsibility for what has happened to Lebanon.
"I cheated" is what he says, "and I am proud to continue."
"Free" in fogspeak means "under the rule of Islam".
Do not let Briggette Gabrial read this story, she would have a bigtime hissy fit.
Ironic, this week I have been watching an EWTN tv special about the Maronite rite in the Catholic Church. This is a very spiritual Eastern rite in the Catholic Church. Ironic also because most Maronites support Isreal and its efforts to get rid of Hezbollah.

Lahoud is not a true believer in any of this. He's merely venal. He wanted Syrian money, and was an eager collaborator. He was willing to betray the interests of the Maronites, and the interests of Lebanon when he was President, and he is no different now. In the kaleidoscope of Lebanon, where a Christian who headed the Christian militia in the Sabra/Chatila affair can become a Syrian agent, where the Druze can support now the Muslim side, and now the Christian, now the Syrian side, and now the anti-Syrian, where the Sunni Arabs can make common cause with the Shi'a during the civil war and in recent years become alarmed by the rise in the Shi'a underclass, and its champion, the blackshirts of Hezbollah, one never knows who, why, where will be on this side or on that. There are some beacons.
The beacon I would choose, in Lebanon, would be the late Charles Malik. Though Greek Orthodox, he was essentially Maronite in his outlook, and in his understanding that Lebanon, because of its geography (those mountains) and distance from the Muslim heartland, was the refuge where the Maronites who of course were in Lebanon before the Arabs arrived bearing the gift of Islam, could and did maintain themselves, and Lebanon needed to remain, if it could, that refuge for Christians.
Israel, of course, would like nothing better than to have the Christians maintain their power, and not to lose any more of it, in Lebanon. The Druze, and the Christians (all kinds) and even the old class of Sunni Arab leaders, share -- even if at the moment they will not recognize it -- the Israeli goal of redimensioning, cutting down to size, Hezbollah.
Eventually that will be re-understood, if it has been temporarily forgotten by some, in Lebanon and beyond.
Hizballah also got his country destroyed. He's not much of a leader.
Hugh,
The truth is that Lebanon has been hijacked by Hezbollah, Syria, and Iran. This is not suprising that the president is saying what he is saying, because if he told the truth, he woul most likely then not to be killed.
In truth the average Joe or Mary Lebanesse Christians is supporting Isreal in its housecleaning efforts.
I think everyone should take a look at Brigitte Gabriell's site:
www.americancongressfor truth.com
Scroll to the bottom left, and there is her video biography for free, and you should view it and download it, because it is a concise historical recounting of the muslim takeover of Christian lebanon
and a touching insightful series of observations and stories from her. She is a participant, a witness and an acute observer of who's who there, and here.
You'll want to buy the inexpensive video 'from hate to love' which I had the privilege of attending three yrs ago, which is more complete and has a stirring lecture by Walid Shoebat also.

Hizballah (using Robert's spelling from the title) means "Party of (hizb') God (allah)". How it was ever translated to "HezbOllah" is beyond me. The terrorist group originated in 1985, quite recently, so there is no excuse for the translator to be unaware of the significance of "Allah" vs. "Ollah" in the mind of the infidels.
I have been using "Hezbollah" because that is the most common spelling in the U.S. (Hizballah seems to be the most common in the U.K.), but have been uncomfortable about it. I will start using Hizballah, or Hizb'Allah, in the future. Just as I refuse to use "West Bank" (since it is part of Israel, not Western Jordan), "settlers" (referring to Israeli farmers living in Israel), etc. It bugs me as much as calling Christians "Crusaders". It's a small point, but I refuse to buy into the jihadi mindset, even to a tiny degree.
Oops, forgot to add:
"Hezbollah" removes the religious aspect; it could be the name of a secular resistance army fighting for territorial liberation.
"Hizb'Allah" puts the jihadist core ideology back where it belongs. They are just another group killing for Allah, who just happen to be located next to Israel.
???
"Hizb-allah" is from -- isn't everything? -- the Qur'an.
We are told by our leaders and our media and our experts that all these battles going on around the world are all freedom fighters who just want independence from oppression, and who coincidentally just happen to be Muslims.
So, if Israel would just withdraw from Lebanon and Gaza, and if Russia would just withdraw from Chechnya and Afghanistan, and if India would just withdraw from Kashmir, and if the U.S. would just withdraw troops in Saudi Arabia (after the first Gulf War), and if Indonesia would withdraw from Bandah Aceh, and if black Africans would just withdraw from Darfur, and if (well, you get the idea), THEN we could be living in a peaceful world.
Except that Israel did withdraw from Lebanon and Gaza, Russia did withdraw from Chechnya and allowed an independent government there and did withdraw from Afghanistan, and India did allow the Kashmiris to vote on their future, and the U.S. did pull its troops out of Saudi Arabia, and the Islamic government of Indonesia allowed the separatists to operate unmolested, AND STILL the Islamic attacks kept coming unabated.
These are all just the excuses of the moment for an unrelenting military offensive that has been going on for 1300+ years.
Leaving religion out of all the conflicts going on around the world is exactly what stops everyone from seeing what is going on: worldwide jihad with the goal of a global Caliphate. It's all right there in the Qur'an, if one stops to read it.
It's not a small point. It is the point.
If you were to chose a deceased beacon, why not Bashir Gemayel, the late president-elect who was assassinated 2 weeks after being elected? And if a living beacon, why not Sameer Gaegae, the leader of the Lebanese forces, the military wing of the Phalangists, who remained an anti-Syrian force throughout his career? His release last year, if you recall, was supported by all but Hizbullah.
And isn't Lahoud still Lebanon's president?
The last 2 weeks has been full of Islamic org.'s in canada trying get Christians to hate israel and the jews , they have tried to exploit the death of canadians as a Jewish-plot and now the UNIFIL death one 1 Canadian was blamed on Israel right from the first report.
Muslims and Arabs are citing Kofi Annan as if the event was investigated and concluded Israel was guilty of murdering a canadian, plus Pro-Hezbollah rallies are geting more emboldened by the lack of Law Enforcement arresting them for promoting terrorism and inciting the killing of a minority group.
If you have time to read a few anti-Canada posts by a Arab website just click the link below, the defeated Liberal Party was recently proven to have ties to the Tamil Tigers fund raising for terrorism and now they are siding with Hamas and Hezbollah because of the threats that 800,000 Arabs and Muslim in canada will sell their votes to the Jew-bashing Party in the next election.
This site is a favourite for Muhammad Elmasry to spew is bigotry towards the West and Israel, and when the CIC was forced to pull their vicious attack against Daniel Pipes ,I alerted him that Elmasry kept his diatribe posted on the Arab based website.

Funny how the Liberals gutted our Military to pay for Election promises and now blame the Conservatives for not sending our troops to Darfur,Lebanon and a few other hot spots out of our reach with no Heavy lifting Airplanes to get us there.
The NDP wants higher taxes for more Social programs to fight the root causes for terrorism and gun violence by the youths of immigrants.
HIzbAllah, HEzbOllah, Damn, this is getting confusing.
"Hizb-allah" is from -- isn't everything? -- the Qur'an.
I am pretty sure the term "Hezbollah" has been coined by Farsi-speaking Iranians.
Yesterdays BBC interviewee from the University of Tehran made it a point several times to articulate the word "Lebanon" as "Loobnon"....
