Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah vowed Wednesday that his guerrilla fighters would begin firing rockets deeper into Israel, beyond the northern port of Haifa, and said the Jewish state's two-week-long military offensive against Lebanon was linked to a U.S.-Israeli plan for "a new Middle East." Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who just concluded the first American diplomatic foray in the region since the fighting began July 12, had said there was no place in "a new Middle East" for Hezbollah or other Islamist groups bent on Israel's destruction.
Nasrallah said his organization was ready to discuss an end to the fighting, but the dignity and national interest of Lebanon was what he termed a "red line," a reference to the heavy Israeli bombing and ground assaults on the country.
Nothing says "dignity and national interest" like having a terrorist organization funded by foreign governments operating with impunity on one's soil, with a national government unwilling and unable to assert control. And that very same organization, Hizballah, would cast itself both as the victim in this conflict, and as defender of the territory upon which it has provoked military action:
"There is no way that we can accept any humiliating conditions on us, our people or our country...especially after all these sacrifices. ... We are open to political discussions and solutions with flexibility, but the dignity and national interest is a red line." Nasrallah, speaking on Hezbollah's al-Manar television, also said Israel would have attacked his forces in southern Lebanon by October but lost the element of surprise and were forced to move early after his guerrilla forces captured two Israeli soldiers in a cross-border raid two weeks ago. Eight Israeli soldiers died in the attack.
"In an American and Zionist assessment, there are obstacles to a new Middle East. In the new Middle East, the Palestinian cause should be liquidated," Nasrallah said in a televised speech aired also aired on Lebanese and Arab satellite channels early Wednesday.
"In the new Middle East, there is no place for any resistance movement. The resistance movements in Palestine and Lebanon must be eliminated," Nasrallah added, referring to Hamas, fellow Islamic militants fighting in the Gaza Strip.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Pray for the Israeli soldiers as they risk their lives to root out terrorists - while the EU picks it's nose and refuses to CALL them terrorists. Pray for the safety of Israelis. Pray for the safety of any Lebanese who do not support Hezbollah.

Rahhal, the Hizbullah spokesman, angrily responded to a question about the mosque refuge. "What's the Israeli's business that our fighters were in the mosque? Maybe they were praying at the time!"
When Israeli soldiers are being slaughtered, they need to jettison this suicidal "high moral ground" nonsense. When the hezbollah cowards run into the mosque, the mosque should be obliterated. Period.
I am curious, could some missiles be launched from Gaza by Hamas? This location could certainly put much of Israel in range.
I would not rule out other launch sites. I am sure MINNIE has an assault against Israel planned.

As I remember our fighting in Kosovo I am reminded of the USA bombing the Chinese embassy of course this was in the fog of war? But now what is koffi in such in a huff about and how many rockets have been lanced from Lebanon while the UN was watching over the last 28 years and how did the UN react to those launches?? I don’t remember the UN demanding humanitarian aid to be brought in while we were bombing Kosovo?? How long did we bomb Kosovo??
I am also reminded of the 10,000 civilians that were killed in Kosovo by the USA in our bombing well I don’t remember the outcry being so loud maybe because they were Christians and we know that the UN is against Christians and Jews??
Seams that in the last month in Iraq there have been over 3000 civilians killed by Islamic terrorist and we here no out cry from the arab world or the UN why not is it because they really don’t care??

The same goes for other places around the world. If the enemy doesn't respect western standards for combat and rules of engagement and the concepts of sanctuary and those articulated in the Geneva convention, then those standards should not apply. How is that being unreasonable and injust?

Since I haven't seen this discussed elsewhere on this site, I'd like to congratulate the Israelis for sending 3 or 4 UN 'observers' to meet Allah. Kofi can whine all he likes, but remember, in 2000(?), Hizbullah used an UNIFIL vehicle to kidnap Israeli soldiers and take them to Lebanon - something that embarassed the UN and forced Annan to apologize.
Like John Bolton pointed out, this 'interim' force has been there for 28 years, during which they couldn't prevent PLO attacks on Lebanese, assassination of Bashir Gemayel, massacre in Sabra-Chatila, subsequent assassinations, Syrian assaults on Lebanese, et al. When it comes up again, it should be voted down. In the meantime, Israel should make it a point to wipe out all UN presense in Lebanon, and then apologize. Play the diplomatic game just like the Arabs do.
If I am a UN "peacekeeper" in southern Lebanon and I have watched Hezbollah move in thousands of missiles and tons of supplies (surely this would have been observed) for years--why would I be surprized when suddenly artillery shells are falling all around me and those darn helicopters and jets keep shooting missiles and dropping bombs and I can/t get out of the way fast enough?? After all was not my job to prevent all this?

I don't know what Catherine is talking about, except to say Hezbollah is more or less beginning to admit defeat and want a ceasefire, without actually coming out and saying it. I watch CNN, MSNBC & FOX, so we're primarily getting the same news sources, plus read more online. If you really want to know what's going on, read www.debka.com. Their sources come from the Moussad, which is one of the finest intelligence agencies in the world. The fact remains Western civilizations need to turn the tables on the Muslims and start criticizing them and their barbaric culture. They need to be made to feel that they're in the wrong. The UN is hopeless and Kofi Annan is bought and paid for by the Arabs, flying around on their private jets. The Lebanese people voted Hezbollah into their government, and now they're paying the price. Vive la Israel, may they continue kicking ass and bring the arab governments to their knees.
I just saw an ad on Fox News by the Int'l Fellowship of Christians and Jews. Figuring what the hell, I called the 800 number and gave $50 for relief of Israeli Jews affected by the Hizbullah attack.
I prefer to limit my paltry contributions to Jihadwatch.org, but felt that this was a more immediate thing to which to give.

Which tells me, the UN post is right in the middle of where Hizb'Allah is based and operating. What are they doing there, are they "keeping the peace" as missiles are being fired outside their door and artillery responses are coming back? Are they "peacekeepers" (what a sick joke), or are they "human shields" to allow Hizb'Allah to continue firing missiles at Israel?
If they are so interested in "keeping the peace", why don't they build their post in Haifa and peacefully dodge the Katyusha's coming down, or why don't they ride buses or stand inside a pizzeria in Tel Aviv? They are in Lebanon simply as a deterrent to Israel defending itself. It is time to move UN HQ out of NYC, and move it where it belongs, somewhere like Tehran or Damascus.

I think we're all on the same side, and most importantly that we're aware of the dangers from our enemy, which I'm afraid most Americans have become complacent on this issue. And again, I'm in agreement with Americaningermany. I don't feel sorry for the Lebanese because they support Hezbollah and voted this terrorist group into their government. I do feel sorry for the children though that are being burned from the phosphorous bullets. It's tragic, but Hezbollah is to blame and unfortunately the captured Israeli soldiers are probably already dead, as what happened to the last 3 they kidnapped in 2000. If you purchase a map of the Middle East, Israel is not represented. Western countries established the borders and regimes of contemporary Middle Eastern, Gulf, and African countries. The same is the case with Israel. From the time of the ancient world, borders, countries, and regimes, underwent changes.
The Muslim world is witnessing needless hardship. Muslims must focus instead on repairing their economies, establishing secular regimes, and civil laws. Muslims must stabilize their economies and promote business, so they can create jobs for their large populations. Islamic holy texts must be reformed or entirely recreated, removing the militant jihad, bigotry, racism, and arcane Sharia laws. We all know the Koran was scripted for the ancient tribal days. We are witnessing Imams, Clerics, and Mullahs using the Koran as a perpetual weapon against others. Many other religious were reformed, in the contemporary world.
Israel has some of the most advanced weapons. Israel responded in a fierce manner in the past, they are in the present, and they will in the future. Many believe, if Israel & the West do not respond in a fierce way, then they will be perceived as weak, by militant jihad, and the cycle continues. Muslims know the kettle is boiling, and if they really want peacetime, then they must step up to the plate. Jihad is launching missiles into Israel; shut off the re-supply of missiles, and reign-in the militants.

We are lucky to have this site, as I learn alot here that's not in MSM, and it's a place for us to converge on our various thoughts and ideas. After seeing Syriana, I've become a fan of Bob Baer and wish he were here to share his thoughts and ideas, especially with his working knowledge of Hezbollah and the region, as I believe Iran is now becoming the focal point in the axis of terror.
