Friend and Ally Alert from The Guardian, with thanks to JE:
Pakistan appears to have embarked on a dramatic expansion of its nuclear arsenal with the construction of a new heavy water reactor capable of producing enough plutonium for up to 50 warheads a year, according to a report released yesterday by a US thinktank. The report by the Institute for Science and International Security (Isis), is largely based on commercially available satellite images showing a large building site at a nuclear production complex at Khushab, in Pakistani Punjab. Isis, a non-governmental nuclear watchdog, estimates that the huge rectangular building under construction and the circular structure inside it almost certainly represent the early stages of a 1,000MW reactor capable of generating more than 200kg (440lbs) of weapons-grade plutonium per year. When completed it would be 20 times the size of the existing reactor at Khushab.
This is the so called valuable ally of America in its war on terrorism. And the one India desperately continues extending its bloodied hand to pursue the chimera called peace.
Pakistan is an ally right?? So what is it that makes me so uneasy when I think how easy it would be for jihadis to topple the current president and install an Islamic tyranny like the Taliban who once ruled Afghanistan??
Is it the fact that they would get their hands on these weapons??
As far as Pakistan is concerned I think we've taken our eye off the ball.
Now what would a Muslim country like Pakistan use 50 Nuclear weapons for? Lets see, Attack India comes to mind, attack Europe seems likely, Russia, China? Not likely as these countries have been unwilling to fight terrorism. Attacking Australia or America could be possible.
Nuclear weapons in large numbers could be considered a defensive stategy by some or offensive by others.
I suspect the Pakistanis desire offensive weapons of a nature that would instill terror and/or cause massive death and destruction. A true Islamic death wish.
Then again, they may be motivated by the capitalistic notion of supply and demand. They may want to sell such weapons.
Nuclear weapons in the hands of Muslims is not a good idea.
United States of America has let this happen under their supervision....
US is guilty, when the netherlands PM want ot aprehend AQ khan 's stealing of nuclear secrets and designs , and when he was still in netherlands, The PM of Netherlands said that it was because of US 's pressure thathe could'nt aprehend him...
If it is not wilful prolferation of Nuclear technology under the watchful eyes of US then what...
I am from India, I am damn sure that India is destined for a nuclear attack in future...Who will be responsible for that??????
India cannot talk peace and go the way Indian is goig at present it only will lead to the Islamisation India..and then US will face a big monster from north africa to indonesia...now would US win in such a situation I guess not it will be total destruction of the World...
US should prepare a plan to get the nucl;ear weapons out of Pakistan and destroy the nuclear technology.....
Pakistan is sure to proliferate this technology to terorists and whenthey commit nuclear terrorism whom the US will attack??????
The ocutry that will be prone to nuclear terrorism will be India, becoz it is mor likely that the perpetrators will survive even after that brutual act which willmnot be the case if the attack happend on US.....
US should not give F16s to Pakistan, if pakisthan in any way is responsible for nuclear terrorism or Nuclear attack then History will not forgive America....that is for sure...
Give the whiny "it's all America's fault" b.s. a rest. You're as bad as the mohammedans and the leftist, crybaby Euro-dhimmis.
I am from India, I am damn sure that India is destined for a nuclear attack in future...Who will be responsible for that??????
More than anyone else it would be the dhimmi Indian politicians and the lousy electorate that elects them that would be responsible. Its easy to keep pointing fingers at Uncle Sam or others, but what excuse do we have for the utter servility of our politicians towards the jehadists (both from Pakistan and home-grown within India)?
Having said that I think the USA is making a HUGE mistake in its choice of Pakistan (and specifically Musharraf) as an ally. By looking the other way while Pakistan keeps arming itself, it is not only India that is at risk... it is the USA itself!
Well said, Razdan, and as an American, I agree. Too many people seem to find it easy to complain about the weeds in their neighbor's yard when they haven't mown their own lawn in ages. If I had my druthers, I wouldn't mind seeing Pakiland slide into the sea after the next earthquake.

Eisenhund is right. The 'blame-America-first' syndrome aside, the US wasn't the country that acquiesced, or even approved of Pak going nuclear, let alone support that project. It's one thing to be resentful about the US putting India and Pakistan on the same pedestial, as was done in 1998 (although subsequently corrected). But it's totally disingenuous to assualt the US for Pak going nuclear.
I do agree that the US is making a big mistake by not equating Pakistan's nuclear plans with Iran's - Pakistan has had in the past, and is likely to have in the future - Islamic regimes. Given that, for them to have nukes is deadly not just for India, but for any infidel country whose Islamic enemies can secretly obtain a part of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal. However, it's not the job of the US to look out for India's security, particularly when India's dhimmiticians are themselves busy sucking up to Jihadists, particularly in India, but not excluding Pakistan or Bangladesh. Heck, let them at least show some balls re: terror from Bangladesh, and then they might have a right to bitch about the Jihads waged against it.
Lets not forget that china is the one building it for pakistan. Lets not forget we in America sold Pakistan modern U.S. fighter planes (and technology)in the past. In some ways this is our mess becuase we keep calling them our allies (when anyone with a brain knows they are not). Bush II does it. Clinton did it. In fact many presidents did it. At least Bush did get the deal done with India to supply it with nuclear equipment and material...thank god. Lets hope congress will have enough sense to pass it. In truth it is time for a major policy shift...lets call allies those countries that are really allies....like India who do share our want of freedom and democratic values, they like technology and want to improve themselves and then contrast that with Pakistan who hand out nuclear technology to all of our enemies, hide our enemies within their country, and use their country to launch Islamic Jihad on everyone...
Not a hard choice but our leaders don't get that.
And let's not forget China....perhaps by making nice to India we force their hand as well.
Like any other young guy from India, I am staunchly behind the US. And I neither want to play a blame game nor ignore facts..
Is'nt it a fact that that Netherland's PM was restrained by the US from ordering the arrest of AQ Khan while stealing secrets at a research center in netherlands.
Pakistan is the leader of acess of evil. A mere lance of the activities of Pakistan will reveal this..
Supporting taliban, facilitating AL Qeda , numerous terrorist organistions who modules getted busted as far as Australia, US, and london bombings connection with pakistan, even 9/11 commision makes a mention of pakistan. Extensive relations with North Korea...
I trust the CIA more than any Indian agency, I know that some sort of realisation has dawned upon till now, and it is the compulsion of the US to do what it is doing becoz of the situation it is in...
North Korea, and Iran threaten with accquiring Nuclear weapons, Pakithan threatens with Nuclear weapons and proxy war (Islamic jihad around the World)
Just stop this lies of pakistan being an ally in war..Pakistan is using this oppurtunity to massacre the Balochis Nationalist movement dubbing them taliban and AlQeda...
Infidel Pride,
Nobody is blaming the U.S. for pak's nuclear status. But, you must realize, the goddamned pakis EXIST on U.S. aid, and those F-16's are coming to pakis for FREE. The fact that it is proliferating is ignored. (iran is just the beginning, watch out for some other ones making 'peaceful power plants').
There remains little doubt that the Pakistani rush to strengthen its nuclear arsenal is triggered by an anticipated retaliation from India after the 7/11 Mumbai aftermath.
Therefore, Musharraf and his farce "US ally" government who openly sponsors terrorists and trains them on home-soil, is now rushing to strengthen its nuclear armament. Pakistan's [italic] raison d'etre [/italic] is the destruction and subsequent Islamisation of infidel (Hindu) India. The US is mistaken in considering Pakistan an ally.
Fearing a civil war in Pakistan, when Pakistan agreed to side with the US against Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, Musharraf’s speech to his Jihadi countrymen was as follows: Like our Prophet, we will befriend the enemy (the US) and when we are strong enough, turn our backs to him (the enemy) and defeat the Infidel (India).
This indicates there are two Jihadi groups in Pakistan. http://www.waronjihad.org/pakistan160805.html But do we ever see this fight inside Pakistan as that between the shrewd Jihadis (led by Musharraf and elements of the Pakistani Military) and the brazen Jihadis (led by the MMA, the LeT, Al Qaeda and the rump of the Taliban). The shrewd Jihadis are those who operate like friends of America and enemies of terrorism during the day; while they help selected terrorist outfits during the night. These shrewd Jihadis are pitted against those who want an all out open Jihad and are venting their spleen on the streets of Pakistan against the shrewd Jihadis and shout "Death to America and Musharraf". But it is the Shrewd Jihadis who are practicing Taqqiya or the art of deception against the West and are more dangerous like the proverbial snake in the grass.
Unfortunately, the main objective of this grass snake is the destruction of my Homeland, India.

Musharraf in his address to his people also compared Pakistan's alliance with America as similar to the Treaty of Hudaibiya signed by the prophet of Islam with the non-Muslim Arabs, whom he was to trick later with the terms of the treaty. This also gives us a telling insight into the mind of "His Excellency" General President Pervez Musharraf.
