FYI, Dawood is at an "undisclosed" location in Pakistan. Of course, it doesnt matter that RAW (intelligence agency in India) [inpointed the exact location in Karachi and asked Pakistan to take action. Interpol was notified too but Pakistan denies that he is in the country.
Recently, a high profile (former)cricketer's son married Ibrahim's daughter. Of course, all this happened in public with even photos in major papers to back this up.
All this is happening right in the nation considered to be the key ally in the fight against terror. Yeah, whatever!!

AlQaida is much more vicious, they're truly bestial; comparatively, Hezbollah are almost a normal guerilla group. Is it because of the Sunni-Shia difference?

We have to face this stuff till Pakistan is still considered as a Friend of US in War or Terror. If Mr. Bush and the rest of the world leaders are sincere about this terrorism, then they should sort Pak first and then hunt others. Bin-Laden(Binny Boy) is still in Pak and everyone knows about it but seldom do anything tangible to bring him to books.

dawood is the perfect example of a muslim. He was a small time criminal in Mumbai. He rose in the ranks of the criminals, and eventually formed his own gang. This gang had interests in virtually everything illegal that goes on in a metro. Gambling, extortion, kidnappings, the lot. His gang was called as 'D company' or simply 'Company'. It was about this time that the muslim sleeping in him woke up and he decided to play for islam. The mumbai blasts of 1993 followed. By the time the intelligence agencies tracked him, he was in dubai. He was openly seen in dubai and riyadh, but these places have no extradition treaty with India. Then he hid in his home provided by the isi in karachi. He is right there.

When the first of the explosives went off at the Bombay Stock Exchange on March 12, 1993, by chance I was in the vicinity.

Hearing a muffled boom and following the citizenry that was running towards the sound -- and not away from it as instinct would tell one to -- I soon came across sights of blood and gore that will not go away easily. March 12, 1993 can never be forgotten by a Mumbaikar. Or forgiven.

Chance once again kept me in New York on September 11, 2001, when twisted, horrific minds flew passenger jets into the Twin Towers. As a believer in and defender of the free world, I can never forget that day either. Or forgive those who wrought upon such terror on the rest of us.

I cannot but notice that the United States of America, which then declared its biggest offensive since Pearl Harbour and which action brought it tonnes and tonnes of international criticism -- not to mention unveiled threats of attack from Osama bin Laden, abduction of US nationals and their murder -- has not faced any terrorist attack since 9/11.

Whereas we in India have come to accept terrorist attacks on our soil as just another karmic fact of life -- no doubt with the same stoic acceptance that we took in invader after invader over centuries. Since 1993 Mumbai alone has faced at least 6 more terrorist strikes.

So what has the United States done that India did not?

For one, Uncle Sam displayed the majesty of the American State.

On the evening of September 11, 2001, as I sat glued to the television, US President George Bush addressed his nation in a measured and calm manner. Through the solace he offered his shell-shocked countrymen, he said: 'We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbour them.'
With these words America went to war.

I had waited in 1993 for the majesty of the Indian State to similarly display itself, as I waited many more times for it to happen. I waited for it last night as well, and finally I saw the display.

On the streets of Mahim, close to where we work, the majesty of the Indian State was on full display as Congress president Sonia Gandhi accompanied by Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Railway Minister Lalu Yadav drove past, en route to the blast site. My colleague counted 38+ cars in the motorcade that swept past, as other traffic on the road was kept frozen in place by the security phalanx. It was truly an impressive sight -– only, I couldn't help thinking, it was put on for someone who doesn't hold an office of authority. While the man who does, simply reviewed the security situation in the face of the Srinagar and Mumbai blasts, and directed that New Delhi's security be beefed up.

This was the majesty of the Indian State on display yesterday. I could have wept.

When somebody directs terror at you, nation-States are expected to hit back with maximum force, carry the fight into the enemy camp. It is not enough to possess unrelenting, unremitting muscle power -- it also becomes necessary, once in a while, to display that power. And not merely through caparisoned missiles parading down Janpath once a year, but by responding forcefully to challenges to the State's very existence.

All your nuclear weapons, your missiles, your tanks, come to nought when you don't have the steel in your soul to defend yourself and your subjects -- at any cost.

Has the Indian State done this? Ever?

The first serial blasts in Mumbai happened 13 years ago. Enough water has flowed into the Arabian Sea since then for the guilty to have spent part of their sentence in jail. But 13 years later even a fly has not been sentenced for the worst-ever terrorist attack in India. If you were a terrorist oiling your Kalashnikov and checking your grenades somewhere in the western sector, what exactly will you think of India?

What he does think is evident from the fact that in the last 13 years, Mumbai has faced six more terror attacks -- an average of one every two years.

India believes, too, that the prime accused in the Mumbai blasts, Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar, is a guest of the Pakistani establishment. Not only him, official lists of others accused of waging a war against India and hiding in Pakistan have periodically been handed over to that country. Ordinarily, you would think, if Pakistan is harbouring India's enemies, providing succour and sustenance to them, it needs to be treated as an inimical nation.

Yet, India has been engaged in a peace process with the very neighbour it knows is out to dismember it through any and every means available to it.

Is it any surprise that terrorists continue to attack India with impunity?

Contrast this with the way America has gone about its business since September 11, 2001, and you will see why that nation has not faced any attack in the last five years. Osama may fume and fret from his mountain hole, but there's little more than that he and his terrorist hordes have been able to achieve against the only remaining superpower.

That is because America understands that war can only be won through war, it cannot be won through peace, a belief India has been labouring under for so long. When the very articles of your liberty become your enemy's hand tools to destroy you, it is time to revise notions of liberty and freedom.

Civil liberties are for those who believe in civility and practice liberty, not inhuman monsters who think nothing of inflicting untold horror on innocents. It is only this week, almost five years later, that the US agreed to extend the Geneva Convention to its Guantanamo Bay detainees -- contrast that with how India treats those waging a war against it.

The tragedy with India is that successive governments have ignored one fact of life --India has been at war for many decades now. This is not an enemy who will come at you over the Khyber Pass; this is an invisible enemy who uses your own resources, your own freedoms, your own laxities, to hit at you. If you don't stop him first, he will stop you.

It is futile to blame Congress administrations alone for this sorry pass India has come to -- the National Democratic Alliance, which came to power with so much of machismo, proved no better before threats of terror.

Till we turn around, realise that those who fight India in the name of religion do not represent the millions who practice that faith, and fighting the terrorists is not fighting the practitioners, we are condemned to suffer terrorist attacks.

Bin Laden's dead. Or his whereabouts are known. How can you hide the materials needed to run dialysis treatments in a shithole like Pakistan... the entire country may have one or two dialysis machines at most? So the private machine would need supplies and other things like maintenance and parts used in the treatment process.

you'd think we could follow the medical supplies up the side of the hill to the cave where the generators run the thing....

Then all we have to do is tag the cave entrance and send a cruise missle up the pipe.

Unless they want to keep him alive for some reason... I'm not saying we always play our hands to win... we might be sandbagging for some unknown reason.

The breakdown of dawood's gang is also interesting. The police were frustrated because the men of 'Company' were very well represented, and got out in a very short while since the charges levelled against them turned out to be 'baseless' and witnesses turned hostile. At this time, two Inspectors of Mumbai Police decided to change something. The senior one of them was Daya Nayak. He came to be known as 'encounter specialist'. Criminals never surrendered to him, they shot at him, so he shot back. Daya Nayak got over 100 of dawood's lieutenants. This broke the back of 'Company'. By then, most of Mumbai Police had understood the method. No organized crime syndicate survives in Mumbai. islam is, well, so far not considered as 'organized crime'.

It is now time to internationally outlaw Islam, remove its centers of worship, and attack the centers of its population. Unfortunately, a society always shares consequences with its members who act irresponsibly, and, thus, non-terrorist Muslims (if there is such a thing) will be harmed. But why should it be on India or the US or Israel to keep a Muslim accountable to a moral standard of behavior? (maybe because the Qu'ran's standard of morality really IS different, immoral and teaches and encourages such horrific activity!! read Surah 5 and Surah 9 for further reference.) It is time that Muslim society bore the responsibility for Muslim action. Fix it or it ALL goes away, Muslim. The rest of us are not only sick of changing your diapers and cleaning up after your mess, but we are about to hold you up to the same measure of tolerance that you hold for us and others. And are you sure that you REALLY want to play the attack-the-civilian game?

Rather this was an "ongoing war" against Hindu-majority India by South Asian Muslims. "It is a continuous process of preparing for attacks and carrying them out," he said. "When these people are able to bring something to fruition, they do it. The act itself is the objective. It says: 'We're here. And this is what we are going to do to you.'" In a paper published Monday, Institute research fellow Bibhu Prasad Routray warned that SIMI had been stepping up its operations in Bombay and the surrounding state of Maharashtra. He described several "SIMI strongholds" in the state, adding that the "seizure of 30 kilograms of RDX, 17 AK-47s and 50 hand grenades from Aurangabad and Malegaon [two Maharashtran towns] between May 9 and 12 and subsequent arrests of 11 LeT terrorists pointed to linkages between SIMI and the LeT."

We could just imagine the wailing, moaning and beating of chests that would go on if muslims, for a change, were targetted for attacks.

They do that even if they are winning!. When they hold their rallies, usually there are large numbers of these thugs burning flag, effigies, and shaking fists. I translate these mass demonstrations as targets of opportunity.

I agree, we should become the attacker for a refreshing change of pace, instead of just driving around in Hummvees locating IEDs the hard way.

The above posters have a good point: why isn’t Islam outlawed and considered organized crime? Everything they engage in is considered criminal activities in most modern societies. Polygamy, illegal drug production and distribution, pedophilia …and these are the few ‘nicer’ things in Islam –this doesn’t even take into account the mass murders and inhuman cruelty inflicted on non-believers as well as other Muslims by Muslims.

It’s beyond time for Islam to be outlawed, but if they wait too much longer it may someday be impossible. We only need ONE country with a pair of adequately sized BALLS to pass a resolution denouncing Islam and making its practice illegal within their borders. What’s wrong with that? Some people have advocated racial profiling to stop future terrorist attacks. Racial profiling would help but it would not stop an Al Qaeda look like a Middle Easterner from committing terrorist crimes. In addition to racial profiling, we need to practice religious profiling. In other worlds, people need to carry identity cards that say what religion they profess. Such identity cards would enable the authorities to idennidentify Muslims and determine if they are terrorists or not.member who does not

No, the only difference between Al Qaeda and Hezbollah is that Al Qaeda goes for grandstanding attacks like 9/11. Hezbollah goes about jihad in a much more mundane, but equally deadly manner.

According to Robert Bonney, a specialist in Indo-Pakistan relations at the University of Leicester, bin Laden added Hindus to his usual hate list of Zionists and crusaders in a video shown on al Jazeera in April - he also mentioned India's 60 year ocupation of Kashmir. Apparently this particular broadcast received little publicity in the west.

Lashkar-e-Qahar warns of more blasts across India

MUMBAI: Lashkar-e-Qahar, the terrorist group that claimed responsibility for the Mumbai train bombings, warned on Tuesday that it was planning attacks against government and historic sites in India in an e-mail to a news channel.

The outfit also said it plans to provide audio and video proof that it carried out the July 11 bombings that ripped through Mumbai's packed commuter rail network and killed 207 people.

Lashkar said in the e-mail that 16 people took part in the July 11 attacks in Mumbai, and that one of them was killed.

But "all the remaining 15 mujahideens are totally safe, and celebrating the success of this mission and also preparing for the next mission," the e-mail said.

"We also request all the Muslim brothers and sisters not to go near the main historical, governmental and the monumental places of India (especially in Delhi and Mumbai) in future," the e-mail said. "Otherwise, they get hurt too."

The train bombings killed 207 people and injured hundreds more. Investigators believe the group may be a front for Lashkar-e-Taiba.
