In the featured article at FrontPage this morning I discuss the implications of some recently discovered Internet postings by some of the wives of the accused Canadian jihadists (links in the original):
Investigators have recently uncovered a series of Internet postings made by the wives of a group of suspected jihad terrorists. They include these comments (all spelling and punctuation is as it was written):“Know what you will face one day. Let them call you a terrorist, let them make you look like a savage, but know that THIS [the American military] is the filth of the earth, the uncivilised destroyer of humanity.”“[And] if [my husband] ever refuses a clear opportunity to leave for jihad, then i want the choice of divorce.”
“All muslim politicians are corrupt. There's no one out there willing to rule the country by the laws of Allah, rather they fight to rule the country by the laws of democracy.”
“Are you accepting a system that separates religion and state? Are you gonna give your pledge of allegiance to a party that puts secular laws above the laws of Allah? Are you gonna worship that which they worship? Are you going to throw away the most important thing that makes you a muslim?”
“May Allah crush these jews, bring them down to their kneees, humuliate them. Ya Allah make their women widows and their children orphans.”
“May Allah curse the jews.. Ameen”
These posts and others like them were written not in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia or Yemen. They were written in Canada by several of the wives of the jihad terror plotters recently arrested there: Mariya, the wife of the suspected plot ringleader, Fahim Ahmad; Nada Farooq, wife of Zakariya Amara, who is thought to have been Ahmad’s second-in-command; Rana, the wife of another suspect, Ahmad Ghany; and Cheryfa MacAulay Jamal, a convert to Islam and the wife of Qayyum Abdul Jamal, who is alleged to have stirred the others to act with his fiery sermons preaching jihad and hatred of Christians, Jews, and the West – and whose violent exhortations were tolerated by mosque officials because he took out the garbage.
Leftist analysts who explain Islamic jihad as a reaction to Western atrocities and oppression, as well as those on the Left and the Right who assume that education and exposure to Western culture and values will blunt the force of that jihad, are hard-pressed to explain the phenomenon of jihadists and jihad sympathizers who are born and raised in Western countries. Of course, the Council on American Islamic Relations and other advocacy groups attempt to fill this gap with their largely trumped-up reports of hate crimes against Muslims in Western countries, but when the best they can come up with are some insults at a supermarket, it’s hard to build a case for large-scale oppression of Muslims.But if they are not oppressed, what would possibly have inspired the hatred and contempt these women feel for their own country? When asked what she thought was unique about Canada, Nada Farooq replied, “Who cares? We hate Canada.”
Why would someone who lives in Canada and benefits from its freedom and prosperity hate Canada? Almost certainly because she has been taught to do so. Nada Farooq and the other women who wrote the comments above have no doubt been taught that all non-Muslim society and culture is jahiliyya – ignorance or barbarism, worthless and to be despised.
The Egyptian Qur’an commentator and Muslim Brotherhood theorist Sayyid Qutb (1906-1966), whose writings are popular today among Muslims in the West, emphasized this: “It is not the function of Islam to compromise with the concepts of Jahiliyya [the society of unbelievers] which are current in the world or to co-exist in the same land together with a jahili system….Islam cannot accept any mixing with Jahiliyyah. Either Islam will remain, or Jahiliyyah; no half-half situation is possible. Command belongs to Allah, or otherwise to Jahiliyyah; Allah’s Shari’ah [law] will prevail, or else people’s desires: “And if they do not respond to you, then know that they only follow their own lusts. And who is more astray than one who follows his own lusts, without guidance from Allah? Verily! Allah guides not the people who are disobedient.”[Qur’an 28:50]…The foremost duty of Islam is to depose Jahiliyyah from the leadership of man, with the intention of raising human beings to that high position which Allah has chosen for him.”[1]
Likewise, Syed Abul Ala Maududi (1903-1979), founder of the Pakistani political party Jamaat-e-Islami, which is still the largest exponent of political Islam in Pakistan, declared that non-Muslims have “absolutely no right to seize the reins of power in any part of God’s earth nor to direct the collective affairs of human beings according to their own misconceived doctrines.” If they do, “the believers would be under an obligation to do their utmost to dislodge them from political power and to make them live in subservience to the Islamic way of life.”[2]
This is a matter of religious conviction. These ideas will not be dislodged by education about Western values, which are all part of the jahiliyya these women and their husbands despise, or by better access to jobs or housing. One primary lesson that authorities should draw from these Internet postings is that Islamic terror is not a problem that can be solved by social engineering. It cannot be assuaged by gestures of good will, negotiations or concessions. There is in Western countries today a large and growing population of Muslims, among whom are many who have no intention of assimilating or adopting Western values and perspectives, and who regard the West with as much or more disdain and contempt as these women show in their Internet postings. The jihad ideology as such must be confronted and combated, or it will continue to spread, and breed terrorists and subversives.
But for authorities to understand this and take positive steps to deal with it, they would first have to admit that Islam has anything to do with terrorism at all – something they have taken great pride in denying. And that denial only ensures that there will be many more jihad cells in Canada and Western countries, with the wives of the plotters cheering from the sidelines.

Once again, Islamic family core values come to light. Cananda should deport or exile these people immediately to an Islamic dominated or state run country. Maybe then, they may appreciate the splendor of Canada and the freedoms endeared by the Canadians.
It would appear by their words that that are indeed unhappy in Canada. Put them in a crowd more receptive to the burka, male dominance and daily words of violence from the Koran as announced from the minerets.

This is good reason for feminists to forget about JW, if that is the only motivation for their anti-muslim stance. I visited your site. Was shocked at the content. (should be used to by now, but somehow their brutality always hits me hard). The audio reminded me of my home that I had to change and relocate, since the mullah was wailing this 5 times a day, and my mother got high blood pressure. The docs could not figure it out why she had it. I did. I never told her, just switched houses, and now she is fine.
I wonder how loud people would holler if there was a new religion in town. Say, the Religion of the REAL God. And this religion is based on the Bible. But, the difference is , it is openly against muslims. In it, it says to kill muslims whereever you find them. It says to make slaves of muslims. It says you can rape and subjugate the fairest of the muslims. It says do not take prisoners of the males, but to slowly amputate joint by joint and then to behead them. This new religion would say to lie to the muslims, don't give support to them, don't help them. Take over their lands. Leave naught for them.
I wonder how long it would take before this new religion was shut down by the governments or by people?

That's a nice thought but I dont think Islam will reform...ever. You cant reform the word of Allah. Well, maybe it can be done, but not without the risk of pzzing Allah off. You know how he gets when he is upset. No muslim wants to become the focus of Allah's wrath. Ouch, that fires hot...These Canadian muslimahs know that also...being a muslim is a lot like being in the Mafia. It's easier to get in than to get out. Seeing as how islamic law is especially brutal towards women, it is rather fascinating that these women are so contemptuous of a country that actually provides for their equal rights before the law. I can't help but think that from a psychological POV, these women are coping with their low status as women in Islam through a defense mechanism of "identification with the aggressor".

aig - yes, it's supposed to be a defense mechanism of those who have undergone acute trauma (also known as the Stockholm Syndrome in these cases) but it could just as well apply to those who have been victimized over a more sustained period of time. (I should add, I'm certainly not suggesting curing 1/2 billion Muslim women through psychotherapy. Whatever the reason for these women to be self-hating enough to want to throw away their own freedom is pretty irrelevant as the important point is that they want to take away our freedoms in the process. And in fact these women provide an excellent example of how some Muslim women could be equally or more motivated then many Muslim men to do so. Its the virulence of their insistence on depriving themselves of freedom that seemed to call for additional explanation of a psychological nature above and beyond the fact of their just being devout Muslims. After all, many Muslim women transplanted to the west seem to be interested in expanding women's rights in Islam to some extent.)
Good post Caroline. I guess the whole martyr thing is part of their built in culture. But, I'm confused on the martyr thing. Isn't being a martyr a one time thing? The way they abuse themselves and allow themselves to be abused is overdoing the martyr bit. It's more like glutton for punishment instead of martyr.
I myself, don't understand how they don't just go hog wild with the freedoms in our countries. Leaving the house by themselves, birth control, shopping, leaving the tent at home, walking beside their husbands, riding in the front seat of the car, sitting in the front row at the local mosque, wear what they please, cloppity shoes, laughing out loud.....and so on. Cause we all know when they go to the middle east they have to do all this.

I disagree with this analysis by Caroline as to why muslim women stay muslim. It is not because they are suffering from some sort of Stockholm syndrome. That would imply that that the female of the species is fundamentally different from the male. That would imply that the ideology of jihad does not come naturally to the females. That would imply that having a vagina precludes wishing to mutiliate another's. It does not. The women are 50% of that culture. Without them, islam can not function.
No, muslim women remain muslim, not because the females are prisoners under thought control, like the Stepford wives. It is simpy because the women, like the men, are dedicated to being muslims at all costs. Whatever hardships they have to endure to be muslim, are hardships they take pride in. For them, sweltering under a black cloth is a badge of honor. Pity them not.
One can marvel that a muslim woman would not want to become liberalized and enjoy the freedoms of the west, but the same argument could be made of the men. Why would a muslim man not want to drink beer, watch sports, eat at McDonalds, go to the movies, visit a strip club? Why would a muslim man want to continue to live a hellish existence of deprivation banging his head on the concrete 5 times a day when all those around him are happy not doing do?
Whether it is male or female, the answer is that the muslim is a muslim first. They put their religious, and cultural ideology ahead of all else. The women don't want "freedom" if it means the freedom of the "infidel". The man doesn't want to drink booze or eat a hot dog if he thinks he is going to hell for it, or that booze and hot dogs are the pleasures of the infidel. The fact is that their ideology is so complete and radical, that the pleasures of living like a free and normal human being are considered, by them, to be traps, if they find them appealing at all. More than likely, though, they find such ideas revolting because they fly in the face of their cultural norms.
Don't make the mistake that Bush and others have made, to think that muslims all want the same things we do - that they all long for freedom and democracy and human rights. That would make them like us. What we have seen recently, is proof of the opposite. With the exception of the odd intellectual, the muslims masses care not for freedom nor democracy, much less dance clubs and tight pants. They don't want those things. They are not like us, except for having 23 pairs of chromozones.
Remember, muslim women are happy to send their children off, not only to die, but to kill. Palestinian mothers boast of their children blowing themselves up and encourage the remaining children to do the same thing. That should, by nature, run contrary to the basic maternal instinct that all women are supposed to have as mothers - forget about as humans. And with normal mothers, normal human beings, it does. No normal woman could rejoice in the gruesome death of her own young children. But in the muslim brain, something is fundamentally corrupt. So corrupt, that it even runs contrary to basic natural instincts to which even animals adhere.
That's why I call myself somethingaboutislam. Because there is, isn't there? There is something about it.
So if we can accept that muslim women can sacrifice their children for a political end, then we shouldn't be too surprised that they would sacrifice their freedom to go dancing in the clubs.

Point definitely taken. I was actually afraid that my comments would be taken to imply that I think female Muslims are nothing but innocent victims whom we can save from Islam.
But the fact is also that it is fairly obvious why Muslim men, as compared to Muslim women, would cling to islam even after moving to the west. Muslim men have everything to gain from islam - domination over the women in their lives (giving them instant, built-in ego gratification), not to mention the right to marry 4 women, have temporary marriages (essentially prostitution), the right to beat their wives, keep them at home and under wraps (no need to ever deal with the green monster in that scenario) etc etc. So its quite understandable why Muslim men would have a huge stake in clinging to islam. It is obviously infuriating to many of them to see their women move in a western direction towards liberation, as indicated by the many honor killings where they have moved here.
For Muslim women, however, as freewoman points out, there is much to gain and nothing to lose comparatively in embracing western freedoms. Yes of course they're still Muslim, but I would expect for them to take a more passive, albeit still enabling approach in the west if the men in their lives set about jihad. A sort of inshallah passivity - It's Allah’s will.
By contrast, in this case, you have women acting more militantly than many western Muslim men. They want pure Islamic law, which of course would mean stoning for adultery, woman's court testimony worthless etc etc. And obviously they have nothing to gain by it.
It was the particular stridency of these women in being "more Muslim than Muslim" that led me to speculate that an additional psychological mechanism might be at play, above and beyond their faith in Islam, in order to explain this stridency.
As to the Muslim women who groom their sons to be martyrs - I'm not sure that some of the same thing isn't at play. They are utterly worthless and powerless. By grooming their sons to be martyrs they are giving themselves status in a man’s world by identifying with the man’s values (with the aggressor and their oppressor) at the expense of their own feminine and maternal values of motherhood.

Caroline, I don't think there is any appreciable difference between the male and female of the muslim species. While the men may have sexual proclivity rights, and the women do not, that is a mute point for the purposes of jihad. These women wish to stay as islam dictates because they powerfully believe in islam and are willing to endure whatever insults and hardships may be visited upon them. This willingness, even enthusiasm, for islam, is due to no other cause than simple islamic supremacism and a love of jihad. I do not believe there is any element of any Stockholm syndrome at play. The men are unhinged because they are islamic, the women are unhinged because they are islamic.
There is an expression, that blood is thicker than water. If religion or race is blood, then gender is water.
Remember the OJ trial? The prosecutors naively believed that black female jury members would favor the prosecution as they would sympathize with the female victim. It turned out it didn't work that way. The psychology of black women was much more cynical. The black women sympathized with OJ, a black man, against his white victims. For them, race was a much more galvanizing force than mere gender. Blood was thicker than water. That case was lost for the prosecution at the moment of jury selection.
I believe the same dynamic applies here as well with islam. Except even more so. If an islamic man kills, not even a white woman, but a muslim woman, a muslim woman on a jury would still side with the defendant. Religion is blood, gender is water.
arjun and cosmic avenger, thanks for visiting my site. I think that the best way to expose the vile nature of islam is to show the blood and the violence. Ultimately, that is what it is all about. That is why I hate them.
Islam is a sacred cow, so for the purposes of polemics, we need to appeal to people's emotions rather than their intellects. Making an intellectual argument against islam may win you points at a university campus, but it won't mean a damn to the general public. A much more visceral approach is needed, to get the attention of Joe 6-pack who, otherwise, would not be interested in "politics" or "current affairs". That general apathy is a big part of the problem we face in getting awareness of this threat out to the general public.
I know those videos are hard to watch, but my view is, if those poor people had to endure a beheading, the least we can do is endure to watch it. That way we can share a bit in their pain while also being infused with the anger to fight them. It's good for the soul. It's good for the fight, and it is good for generating the public fear and hatred for islam that we need to change public opinion, and by extension, influence political action.

Yes I am hold this view as well. Unless and until the people know how these people died (and that, incidentally is going to be the fate of all infidels in muslims power) they are not going to do something about it. They did not say "We hate Canada", All they said was they hate America! I guess they meant Bush and his government along with it is the army.

If the whole world hates America, why are mohammedan vermin setting off bombs and carrying out assassinations in Thailand, India, the Phillipines, Nigeria, Somalia, Chechnya, Kosovo, Egypt, etc.? Mostly killing non-Americans.
