Yes, you read that right. A UN rep has actually dared to criticize the mujahedin, and draw attention to their reprehensible tactics, although of course he also parroted the "disproportionate" line against Israel, without noting the self-contradiction in which he was entangling himself: if Hizballah launches its actions from civilian areas, how is Israel's response in civilian areas disproportionate? "UN humanitarian chief accuses Hezbollah of ’cowardly blending’ among civilians," from AP, with thanks to Sr. Soph:
LARNACA, Cyprus - The UN humanitarian chief accused Hezbollah of “cowardly blending” among Lebanese civilians and causing the deaths of hundreds during two weeks of cross-border violence with Israel. The militant group has built bunkers and tunnels near the Israeli border to shelter weapons and fighters, and its members easily blend in among civilians.
Jan Egeland spoke with reporters at the Larnaca airport in Cyprus late Monday after a visit to Lebanon on his mission to coordinate an international aid effort. On Sunday he had toured the rubble of Beirut’s southern suburbs, a once-teeming Shiite district where Hezbollah had its headquarters.
During that visit he condemned the killing and wounding of civilians by both sides, and called Israel’s offensive “disproportionate” and “a violation of international humanitarian law.”
On Monday he had strong words for Hezbollah, which crossed into Israel and captured two Israeli soldiers on July 12, triggering fierce fighting from both sides.
“Consistently, from the Hezbollah heartland, my message was that Hezbollah must stop this cowardly blending ... among women and children,” he said. “I heard they were proud because they lost very few fighters and that it was the civilians bearing the brunt of this. I don’t think anyone should be proud of having many more children and women dead than armed men.”
“We need a cessation of hostilities because this is a war where civilians are paying the price,” said Egeland, before flying to Israel.
Not to mention that a large number of the civilians support the Hezbollah. As I watch the interviews of the Lebanese on TV, I hear statements like "Things were good with Hezbollah, there was food, medicine and support" or "I support Hezbollah because they fight Israel"
Well!! If they then die because Israel is taking action to stop the violence that Hezbollah brings then that is their own choice.
If the populace were concerned about Hezbollah induced violence, it would seem logical they would root out the Hezabollah fighters. They have embraced these fighters for decades, they have sheltered them, fed them, clothed them, and have provided weapons, intelligence and may have helped them construct the cave complexes that Hezbollah uses to hide their rockets and personell. They have know about Hezbollah since Hezbollah arrived, no one ever lifted a finger to stop them. the old adage applies "If you are not against them, then you must be for them." It appears the Lebanese are for them, despite their claims "it ain't so."
The statement by Egeland on the "cowardice" of Hezbollah, and the boasting of its "soldiers" that they had, by deliberately blending in with women and children, managed to limit their own casualties, should have been on the front page of The New Duranty Times today. It's there today, buried at the very end of a story. See if you can find it. It will take a while. Not surprising. Nothing about The New Duranty Times, and its coverage either of the Lesser Jihad against Israel, or any of the other Lesser Jihads, or the entire matter of what Islam teaches, what is contained in Qur'an and Hadith, what Muhammad as the Perfect Man offers by way of emulation, can any longer surprise anyone.
Look at the list of newspapers and magazines that had a life, and then eventually succumbed. They are not entitled to permanence. Some of them deserve to disappear. The New York Times (which is referred to here as The New Duranty Times) has had a long and not-terribly-distinguished run. Whenever something world-significant came along -- the destruction of European Jewry, the real nature of Soviet Communism -- the paper failed its readers, failed in the judgment of posterity. It had a chance, with Islam, to try, just a bit, to educate its readers. It has been nearly five years since 9/11/2001. It has failed -- completely. It deserves to disappear.
"The IDF was still encountering Hizbullah gunmen who were shooting form inside mosques, hospitals, and schools. They take advantage of the population, Assulin said, "But the IDF has high moral values and does its best to avoid harming anyone uninvolved."
If "high moral values" precludes destroying those mosques and firing back at these pusillanimous 'soldiers of allah' in the schools and hospitals, then it is both foolish and immoral.
