Chaos rules as 70 are killed in attacks in Iraq

Iraqi Jihad Update from AP, with thanks to Arjun:

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Bombings and shootings killed more than 70 people in Iraq on Tuesday as U.S. forces geared up for a new attempt to wrest control of Baghdad from Shi'ite militia, Sunni insurgents, gangs, rogue police and other gunmen.

U.S. officials have described the campaign as a must-win for Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, whose government has been unable to curb the violence.

For the effort, at least 3,700 U.S. soldiers are being moved from Mosul to Baghdad. Troops will work alongside Iraqi forces.

As part of the campaign, U.S. troops Tuesday arrested Sheikh Ahmed al-Ashmani, a representative of radical Shi'ite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr -- whose Mahdi Army is among the most feared armed groups.

They need to get rid of al sadr.

Looks like door to door fighting is in the forcast. I would not be putting US soldiers next to Iraqi soldiers. I do not trust them.

Why Muqtada al-Sadr still roams free is beyond me, he and his little army should have been neutralized more than two years ago.

exsgtbrown,
It is door to door fighting. The U.S. forces are told to be mindful of the 'civilian' population. This 'civilian' population is the one that carries out attacks. It is the way of islam. The Indian Army operates under similar constraints in Kashmir. A captain told me that they wear these loose clothes because they can conceal Kalashnikovs in them, and of course, the forces have to be 'mindful' of civilians, so the Army acts only when an attack happens.

islam always will lose in traditional warfare, it is only in the cities and under the guise of 'peaceful civilians' that they are successful. Look what they did in Kana. Killed their own, and are now howling 'genocide' to the world.

Yet another reason to snuff out Al Sadr - According to this Jerusalem Post Article (Nasrallah and Sadr are distant cousins.) Now there is a gene pool worth eliminating.

From the above article -

Why is this information disclosed (i.e. where our forces are being relocated from)? I'd like to believe it's disinformation to set the 'combatants' up . . .but my gut tells me otherwise.

Islam is a mental disease with no cure.

And our military objectives are what? Stand - by?

According to globalist like Rush -- this is victory; according to globalists like Kerry -- this is defeat; according to a nationalist like yours truly -- this is insane.

Will someone in the American government explain how this serves our national interest? Why is this cesspool of a country not a sea of radioactive glass by now -- or are we afraid of so-called war crimes tribunals by fake courts in the Hague?

This nation-state building excercise and the UN doctrine of containment; management; and appeasement is for the globalists -- and for the birds!

Win the "war" already and lets move on! It took four years to finish off Nazi Germany and Japan both mighter than these [expletive deleted]!

This is ridiculous -- we can certainly finish off these [expletive deleted] if certain leaders had the [expletive deleted] will to actually win!

Support Our Troops -- turn 'em loose and let them do what they were trained to do and cut the social experiments in democracy building nonesense!

Maybe the US should withdraw temporarily, encouraging each side of the shiite/sunni islamic-idiot's club to not tolerate the filthy infidels on the other side, and then comeback when there's little left but the flys.
