Deborah Weiss speaks truth to power in "A Consensus on Lebanon: Even for the Lebanese, there should be no question Israelis are the good guys," in National Review:
he opened a humanitarian corridor, allowing numerous ships to Lebanon with food and supplies, and is planning to open another humanitarian corridor within the Lebanese borders. She does not celebrate the loss of innocent civilian life in Lebanon. Rather she grieves it because to her, life is precious. Above all, she believes in freedom. She wants Lebanon to be a free and independent country. She’s Israel. The Israeli government is probably the only government that drops leaflets warning civilians to evacuate before bombing. She is taking every precaution possible not to kill civilians. She intends only to target Hezbollah. This is not an easy task considering Hezbollah is using civilians as human shields by shooting missiles from their homes. Israel’s goal is survival, peace, and freedom. Unlike many Islamic extremists, Israel is not seeking to expand her territory, kill those with differing religious beliefs, or oppress those who are not like-minded. By contrast, Hezbollah admits that if the U.S. intervenes, it will “welcome World War III.” Hezbollah is not taking precautions to avoid the murder of innocent women and children. To say they are careless is an understatement. Indeed, they are targeting civilians and rejoicing in their deaths.
It is a lie that the goal of Hezbollah is to free the prisoners held in Israeli jails, (most of whom are there because they are terrorists). Not that kidnapping soldiers to manipulate the release of terrorists is an acceptable goal. But, the true goal of Hezbollah is the destruction of Israel. Hezbollah doesn’t deny this.
Yet the press in Europe and the Middle East presents a biased view of the Middle East conflict. They present it as though the two sides are moral equivalents. They make it sound as though Israel started firing missiles into Lebanon out of the blue. In truth, Hezbollah has been firing missiles into Israel since Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon in the year 2000. Thus far, Israel has not retaliated. Hezbollah’s recent kidnapping of Israeli soldiers appears to have been the last straw. Were this to happen in the U.S. or any other country, the world would not demand that we look the other way. Yet there is a double standard when it comes to Israel. Even worse, there is international Arab support for Hezbollah’s goal of destroying Israel.
Read it all.
also worth a read, remarks made by Walid Jumblatt, translated by memri.org.
Walid Jumblatt: "Whatever happens, Hizbullah will emerge victorious. To whom will Hizbullah dedicate this victory? Will it dedicate the victory to the Lebanese state, to the honoring of international resolutions, to the Taif Agreement? Or will it dedicate it to the Syrian regime, the Syrian-Iranian axis, in which case we will become scorched earth, annexed to Syria and Iran? Each of these countries wants, with this abduction, to negotiate with America over the remains of the Lebanese homeland."
[...]
"There can be no honor associated with a fascist regime like the Syrian regime, or, to be more precise, there can be no honor associated with a regime which is semi-divine, like the Iranian regime."
Interviewer: "You are referring to the principle of the rule of the jurisprudent."
Walid Jumblatt: "I don't want to go into jurisprudent theories... Ultimately, there were civilized peoples... I don't want to make a comparison, but Adolf Hitler also aroused his people's sense of honor, and led Germany into war."

Hey Hezbollah! can you hear the theme from Jeopardy??
The Israelis warn by phone before making a missile strike. Unbelievable. I don't think any army has done this.
Israeli Phone Call Means a Bomb Is on the Way

Kindly note the 'family' of the one who received the phone call from Israel. :)
Upon closer inspection, the pictures of the Cana bombing suggests that hezbollah might have rigged the house to explode several hours later, in order to kill a load of handicapped kids.
An oberservant nurse in France watched the pictures closely and believes that many of the children who died were disabled.
The pictures are here http://www.france-echos.com/actualite.php?cle=9800
The article suggests that Hezbollah used the opportunity to get rid of their deformed children and pin the blame on the jews.
Islam is the only "religion" that claims victory when their children die.
Islam is the only "religon" that says it is an honor to kill your daughter if she is raped.
Islam is the only "religion" that honors deceit and violence as a neccesity to spread their "religion"
In Islam, there is no value on life, death was practiced by its founder and honored by its followers.
What a "religion"
"World opinion" is worthless
By Dennis Prager

"And here is a related rule if your religious or national or ethnic group ever suffers horrific persecution: "World opinion" will never do a thing for you. Never. "
In fact, that is almost exactly what the "world" (read: Left and Islamist elites) said that America should do after the 9-11 attack, which was much worse than Hezbollah's cross-border kidnapping: Restraint, restraint, restraint. No military force. Just diplomatic negotiation. Allow Osama bin Laden to be tried by an Islamic court (!!!).
It's exactly what the "world" told Putin to do after the Beslan massacre in 2004: Restraint, no use of force. And on and on and on.
The "world" will never support the use of military force by any Western nation--Israel, America, Britain, Russia--against Islamic terrorism. Why? Because the world is mostly Third World nations who are enjoying seeing the West get a bloody nose. Even non-Muslims in the Third World are enjoying the spectacle of Westerners cowering in fear and having to beg for favors from Third World nations for a change.
I understand how angry Israel is at having the truth turned upside down about their situation. But they're not alone in this. The "world" portrayed the USSR as the champion of the oppressed and America as the oppressor. The "world" portrayed 9-11 as a justifiable response to Western colonialism. And so on.
Yes, the Lebanese should understand that the Israelis are the good guys. But they don't. or pretend not to. I think it is because they have a weak government and assume they will have to go back to living with Hizb'allah after the war, and don't want to antagonize them.
On FOX news, Emile Lahoud, President of Lebanon, implied that without Hizb'allah, Israel would invade Lebanon. I can't imagine that he truly believes this. The truth is, that without Hizb'allah or groups like them using Lebanon as a staging area for attacks, Israel would have no quarrel at all with Lebanon. By the way, Lahoud is Christian, so this can be seen as classic dhimmi behavior--he or the Lebanese Christian community can easily become Hizb'allah targets..
From a CNN interview with Lahoud:
(CNN) -- President Emile Lahoud has urged the Lebanese to remain united in the face of an Israeli offensive against Hezbollah and logistical targets in Lebanon that was in its tenth day Saturday...
....ROBERTSON: But as commander in chief of the army, why don't you tell the Lebanese army to stop Hezbollah and then bring an end to this?
LAHOUD: Well, if you knew the interior politics of Lebanon, you will understand that in 2000 Hezbollah was the main liberator of our land. And at the time, the Lebanese army was and still is with what is happening on the frontier. Because, you see, what was happening was Israel with airplanes ... but having the resistance, they think twice. And because of that there is no animosity between the army and the resistance. ... The resistance are Lebanese.
ROBERTSON: Do you mean the army supports Hezbollah at this time in their fight against Israel?
LAHOUD: Believe me, what we get from our side is nothing compared to if there is an internal conflict in Lebanon. So out thanks comes when we are united, and we are really united, and the national army is doing its work according to the government, and the resistance is respected in the whole Arab world from the population point of view. And very highly respected in Lebanon as well.
ROBERTSON: If you were to call on the army now to stop Hezbollah from attacking Israel, to stop Israel therefore attacking Lebanon. Would that divide the army along sectarian lines? Would the Shiites in the army go with Hezbollah?
LAHOUD: In the first place, I wouldn't give such an order. Believe me, Hezbollah has done a lot for Lebanon in liberating this land. ... Hezbollah is part of the government.
Sebastien, merci beaucoup pour le lien
The nurse quoted writes that the children all seemed to have a handicap. What of the possibility that the stiff upraised arm of the child on the front page of L'Humanite was in a state of rigor mortis? Would that not mean that the child had been dead for a few days before the alleged incident?
Wait a minute. Lebanon today is a Muslim-majority country, with the Shi'ites as the largest single religious grouping. I doubt that Israel can do anything right in the eyes of such a country.
STeven L. you are dysfunctional, irrational, counterproductive, continue conflating the left with the Islamist and you will (as the right wing is doing) engage in a self fulfilling prophecy, and ensure the ultimate victory of the Islamists.
The left is naive and stupid, at times, but they are not 100% wrong on everything, anymore than the right is 100% correct on everything..
But by demonizing the left and pushing them into the same foul tank as the Islamist, you alienate half of the population of the U.S. (or more) and you might win battle here and there, but you will lose the war.. or maybe that is what you and those nitwits like you really want, a pyrrhic victory.. do you have a Sampson Complex?
I don't.
Nariz aka Giaour:
With your constant anti-conservative rants and tirades, you are the proverbial pot-calling-the-kettle-black.
What nerve. You are a danger to the anti-jihad movement if there ever was one.
