It is now late morning in Israel. Contrary to rumor, the apocalypse has not arrived. And if Bush, that colossal and obstinate fool, will turn his monomaniacal attention from Iraq, and from attempting to stop in Iraq what he should be encouraging, to the threat of Iran, and do what he must do, what he has a solemn obligation to do, before he leaves office, that apocalypse will not arrive.
I'll be calm only when the night of this day is over. "Yes, it is come, but it is not yet passed" - the astrologer to Julius Caesar.
Whatever happens, thanks for all the watchmen who see the signs and give warning. The Left cries "alarmism" and "fear-mongering", but Spencer (and Lewis) is "guilty" only of basic human responsibility.
Hugh
In that case, why are you still awake? ;-)
Hugh is dead right that Bush has an OBLIGATION, solemn, sworn, witnessed by conscience, history and the Lord and Master of history.
About fifty years ago, the world witnessed an earnest attempt by one people to wipe from the face of the earth another people.
Could it possibly be that in the lifespan of some of those who live and remember such dread events, that the people of the earth shall witness a subsequent attempt at genocide?
What ever happened to all those many cries of "NEVER AGAIN?" What ever happened to them, or were they offered just for show, just as some cheap trick, some easy self-flattery, and that if deeds were ever needed to make such utterances real and meaningful, then those deeds would never be performed.
Even in my youth, I always suspected that the world would never find the moral light to truly make good on the sentiment behind "never again." And now, but a couple decades later, we see it all unfolding.
The march of events is taking a very somber turn.
Maybe now foolhardy Americans will pull themselves away from the T.V. and finally realize the reality and seriousness of the threat that confronts us all.
It aint over...till its over.
Hugh...
I absolutely agree. Glad you said it, because I have been saying it for a while.
Bush has an obligation to deal with Iran, move focus off Iraq and onto the real 'war on terror'.... Islamic Facism boiling in Iran and it's subsidiaries.
I'm not sure if this has been linked to before, but it makes grim reading.

Anyone seen this? The OTHER nutter in North Korea is threatening to attack due to war drills - 1 hour ago.
I have said that if Iran seriously plans to attack Israel and possibly our bases in the ME, that North Korea would probably attack our bases in the Pacific or even our West Coast in a simultaneous attack.
I hope I'm wrong.....
Iran and the Islamic thugs keep attacking, it is time for a counter attack. The US should go to DEFCON 2 NOW!!!

Insomnia. It happens all the time and the supposedly fatidic date of August 22 was not its cause. In Russian called "Bessonnitsa."
Another reference to a bout of Bessonnitsa, part of a friendly late-night or early-morning pun-filled nod to Mandelshtam, posted on a day having nothing fatidic about it, is this:
"Bessonnitsa. Gomer Pyle. And Paris in her Hilton."

Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. The Iranian 'Beasty Boy' prez, knows the affect of this real or imaginary threat. He is hyperaware that Iran is the focus of attention right now.
He knows that the world is watching him. The perfect time to do something 'great'(or stupid) for Allah and Iran...if Allah wills it...of course Allah will will it, he always does. He willed whatever Mohammad wanted and Allah will will whatever 'Beasty Boy' wants as well. Beasty Boy has an ego-elevated opinion of himself. In reality, he is just another terrorist, but Allah will will for him anyway, because Allah loves this kind of stuff. He wrote a lot about it in his book. Soon Allah will will Mahdi to come out of the well, or Beasty Boy will proclaim himself Mahdi, if Allah wills it, and he probably will. But Allah is fickled...he could just as easilly will Bush to drop a bunker buster right down that well and put Mahdi out of business...They say that Allah knows best, but sometimes I wonder...
Lets have a press conference and declare The Iranian moonbat is a wimp. Let him get fired up and make a mistake, then we take him out warning all not to interfere.
Korea should be watched, Koreas actions are dictated to them by China,(Korea is puppet state of China). China is sitting back and watching. We are watching also.
The Korean moonbat has some decisions to make, I hope he chooses wisely.
I don't deny that I left Tel Aviv with some relief this morning...
I hope everybody stay's safe and that the madman of Iran is not as insane as he sounds off, but I have little hope for that. Something big is up and WE are not up to it.
When you watch the news on CNN or FOX they will knock you dead with trivia and more trivia!
Instead of reporting real news the obsession with the absurd, with a perceived child-killer who is most likely an impostor paralyzes the news-services, everything else is on the back-burner.
Why?
Have we all become such pathetic wimps that only trivia matters?
"Why?"

"Why?" comes the cry de profundis. Read Jacques Barzun's "The House of Intellect," published in 1959. Now add 47 years of more, ever more, of the same, ever more, every faster.
Now stir the mix -- "The House of Intellect" and those 47 years. Now season to taste, with the week's latest fashion in intellectual flavors and fragrances. Add boom boxes. Add audiocassettes. Add videocassettes. And 150 channels to the offerings. No, make that 300 channels. No, make that 500 channels. Add cell phones. Add pictures to those phones. Add the Internet. Add e-mail. Add instant messaging. Add the world-wide web. Add everything that is at its most hectic and most frantic and most ephemeral, and make that ephemeral, that frantic, that hectic everything the cynosure of all minds and eyes for a day, an hour, a week, and then go on to something else, some other topic to dominate the endlessly repetitive headlines at CNN or other guide to nothing and to nowhere.
Now subtract real books. Now subtract time and subtract the right study of history. Now subtract the right study of literature. Now subtract the right teaching of language. Now subtract the ability to use words to express what one thinks. Now subtract the ability to possess enough mastery of language even to formulate the thoughts one would like to have, for one's own use. Now subtract quiet. Now subtract solitude.
Now stir, stir, stir.
And as you stir, sing a song. You know the one, the one that begins
"When the hurlyburly's done
When the battle's lost and won..."
You ask "why?" But it is yours to reason "why."
How could it be otherwise?
Whenever I visit my mother, the only news story she is interested in is the Jon Benet soap opera. "But why would someone admit to a crime he didn't commit?"
I've been saying, "Mom, I'm not following that story. It does not concern me. I'm following a bigger story - an impending apocalyptic nuclear war in the middle east."
"Yes, she says, "But why would he say he did it, if he didn't?"
The smartest thing Israel could do would be to get rid of useless Olmert and his govt. and save themselves by getting clear leadership.
Then bomb the mullahs.
Hugh: great post.
But we do not lose focus.
The driveby media can go foc itself.
We do not lose focus.
dgene,
The Isrealis should get rid of Olmart and bring back in Bibi.
August22,
People are using the JonB case as a distraction because they can't cope with the idea of the real dangers we are all facing from so many lunatics.
Ask her if she'd give a hammer to a monkey and lock it up in her greenhouse. While the monkey is in the process of deciding just what to do with its hammer, ask her if she'd try to REASON with the monkey and expect it to give a responsible and rational answer.
Middle East Crisis- not a sexy story, plus it's hard to understand, with players most can't even locate on a map.
JonBenet-a sexy local story full of perversion; no real thinking required.
The only good news?
The Truth about Muhammad- war mongering pedophile starts a religion. Very sexy and controversial.
I told President Bush to do the same thing for Americans in an e-mail I sent his office.

A perfectly sensible thing to do. And nothing else need be read into it.
