BEIRUT, Lebanon - Lebanon's prime minister said Monday that one person had been killed in an Israeli air raid on the southern village of Houla, lowering the death toll from 40. Meanwhile, in northern Israel, scores of Hezbollah rockets wounded five people, rescue workers said.Both sides appeared to take advantage of the days before a cease-fire resolution, formulated by the U.S. and France, is put to a vote in the
U.N. Security Council.Prime Minister Fuad Saniora repeatedly broke into tears as he disclosed the latest attack during opening remarks at a meeting of Arab League foreign ministers in Beirut. He appealed to fellow Arab states to help a nation "stunned" by a nearly four-week Israeli onslaught that has devastated Lebanon's infrastructure and left hundreds of civilians dead.
Saniora said the attack occurred in the southern village of Houla, where heavy ground fighting between Hezbollah guerrillas and Israel has been raging in recent days. The Israeli army said it is checking the claims about Houla but repeated that residents in villages in southern Lebanon had been warned to leave.
There was no confirmation of the death toll from security officials, but witnesses said the airstrike flattened five homes in a tribal compound.
U.N. peacekeepers at a post near Houla reported Hezbollah fired rockets toward Israel twice Monday from positions near the UNIFIL base.
"An hour ago, there was a horrific massacre in the village of Houla in which more than 40 martyrs were victims of deliberate bombing," he said. Saniora had to halt his remarks several times to choke back [crocodile] tears and wipe his eyes, and the ministers broke into supportive applause.
"If these horrific actions are not state terrorism, then what is state terrorism?" he asked, adding that Israel's attacks have set back Lebanon by "decades."

Lowering the toll from 40 to 1 - makes one wonder by what factor should these tolls be adjusted when they are first reported?

Makes one wonder why there would be a crowd in Beirut anywhere. Usually in a city in the middle of a war, you don't find crowds. Unless, of course, women and children were huddled together in one dangerous location by Hizbollah.

And here is how.. not one cent in American money to reconstruct Lebanon.. not one penny, but then again that will hurt Bechtel and Haliburton and all of the other American contractors, firms and corporations that are lined up to make a fortune "reconstructing Lebanon" just as they did in Iraq.
Which incidentally accounts for a large part of the "insurgency", Bechtel and Haliburton got these multimillion dollar contracts, never delivered, ripped off the taxpayer of the U.S. and hired cheap foreign laborers, not Iraqi's. Most of the beheadings and assassinations were carried out against foreign workers, Philippino, Jordan, Egyptian, Japanese, Turkish, Nepalese.
After GW1, Saddam had essential services (electricity, sewer, water) up and running in days and weeks..three years after the fall of Baghdad, not even 50% of these services are up and running again..either American Contractors and companies are woefully ineffecient, or there is theft and corruption going on.
Yes I know it is hard to rebuild while there is an insurgency and sabotage, but at the same time these Corporations hired imported foreign labor, at a time when Iraqi unemployment was up around 80%..
Notice how the story gives no explanation nor seeks any quotes from Lebanese officials as to why they were going with a figure that turned out to be 40 times higher than the actual number of casualities.
And even after AP reports that the number of dead is only one, they still repeat his quotes about Israel and state sponsored terror...which if were based on the original figures (though still a purposeful misreading of Israeli intentions), no longer apply.
If Siniora's statements are purely for propagandistic effect (which they obvioulsy are), shouldn't the media do more than correct the number in the first paragraph, repeat PM's charges and then move on to other info?
The media never hesitates to speculate about Israeli or US motives in "hard news" stories or the worst possible outcomes of any US/Israeli action. On the other hand, they never seem to notice the most obvious fabrications, inconsistancies or motives of the enemy.

What is clear to all by now is that Fouad Siniora is a traitor to his people and his country. He doesn't speak for the ordinary Lebanese. He speaks for Hizbollah, and by extension Iran and Syria. Compare him with the stoicism of Walid Jumblatt, the Druze leader, who has shown himself to be a Lebanese patriot. Saniora has allowed himself to become Ahmadinejads mouthpiece by the Mediterranean. Under his stewardship, his country has become the Costa del Iran. This disgraceful little man with the penchant for the big lie has become the latest Pierre Laval. He has thrown in his lot with the dark forces of antisemitism and barbarianism. Once this is all over, it would be fitting if Siniora were arrested and faced trial on charges of treason.

Ripping off Muslims is hardly limited to crooked kaffir multi-nationals. Yassir Arafat had a net worth of over 10 billion US dollars and permitted the 'Palestinian people' to starve and live in horrific poverty (most of his money was spent on global jihadi warfare). Yet, while the Palestinians certainly knew about this (Mrs. Arafat to this day lives in Versailles-like splendor in a palatial Paris chateau), they never took action against him. Why? He was Muslim. The same holds true for Saddam Hussein. It was the Hassein government's theft of petroleum revenues meant to be used to purchase food and other supplies that caused the Iraqi people to starve in the 1990s. Did they care that he was behind the tragedy? They still don't. The United States made a fine scapegoat.
