This is not new. This is old. This is of course merely a statement, no longer one of those intended for Western consumption, with all that post-Six-Day-War talk about "the legitimate rights" of the recently-invented "Palestinian people." No, it is the vocabulary of Azzam Pasha in 1948, and of Ahmed Shukairy, and of course of Arafat himself, whenever he was addressing Arab audiences. For what else does it meant to "recover Palestine from the Jordan to the sea," as Arafat always said was the unchanging ultimate goal, and what else could he have meant when he said "Palestine itself does not interest us. It is merely a point in the vast Arab domains from the Atlantic to the Gulf and beyond." (No, this is not verbatim, but close). You do remember Arafat, don't you? Yes, it's easy to forget him, just as it is easy to forget King Hussein, or Saint Sadat, or Gamal Abdel Nasser, or any of the others whose views and personalities seemed at one time so very important, so very necessary to discuss endlessly, to parse what they meant, what they must, might, should, could have meant, when they talked to the American press, to European diplomats, at the U.N., even at times to the hapless trusting Israelis, so many of them so eager to believe, so willing to be deceived.

Nohting, absolutely nothing, about what Al-Qaradawi says here is new. The only thing that is new is that it is being reported now, and some attempt in at least some quarters is at long last being made, to comprehend why this is not new, why it is very old, why it fits in exactly with what Muslims are told, in the Qur'an, in the Hadith, by the very example of that Perfect Man Muhammad in the Sira, that they must of course conduct Jihad all over the world, until the entire world belongs to Allah and the Best of People, the Believers, but they have, in their To-Do List, a special interest in regaining first all those lands which were previously under Muslim rule at some point, no matter when or for how long, no matter how essentially without resources of any kind, such a place might be. So Israel, and Spain, and Sicily, and Greece and Serbia and Croatia and Slovenia and Macedonia and Rumania and Bulgaria and much of Hungary must be reconquered sooner rather than later, and of course vast swaths of southern Russia, and almost all of India, whose Hindus have over the past century been far too uppity, far too convinced that Hindustan is the place of the Hindus, when Muslims in India and Pakistan and Bangladesh know that nothing belongs to those Hindus, that in the end it all belongs to Allah and the Believers,and their day will come again.

What is different is that now, because of Muslim behavior in so many different places, of Muslim aggression against so many different kinds of non-Muslims, because of Muslim demands, on threat of violence and sometimes with that violence (see France), for ever more concessions by Infidels, in their own lands, on foreign policy: throw Israel to the wolves, the wolves of Hezbollah or Hamas or Al-Qaeda, distance yourself from your natural ally and most powerful friend, the United States, and so on -- don't help the Christians in southern Nigeria should they once again attempt to achieve their independence, don't make such a fuss about Arab violence against non-Muslims and non-Arab Muslims in the Sudan, don't take India's side against Pakistan ever, don't support measures to protect Buddhists in southern Thailand or Christians in the Muslim-dominated islands of the Philipines or Indonesia, don't don't don't.

And it will be the same, though perhaps not seen with quite the same clarity, when it comes to domestic policy in the undifferentiated Lands of the Infidels. Give up your principles, your most important achievements. Do not, in Denmark or Holland, dare to exercise the right of free speech, for if you do all hell will break loose, and Muslims will feel "humiliated" and have to kill, sometimes through impressionable and manipulable intermediaries, as in the case of van der Graff who murdered Pim Fortuyn, or kill Theo van Gogh, por threaten to kill not only Danish cartoonists and editors, but all Danes everywhere, unless and until there was submission by the Danish state and people to the demands of Muslims who had instituted an economic boycott, and made death threats to the Danes.

And in France, the principle of laicity is attacked head on, in the pride of French life, those schools that were created by generations of intelligent pedagogues, of whom the most famoous was Jules Ferry, as Muslims try to make the hijab an issue -- and succeed. And the destruction wrought on the French educational system, by Muslim students who refuse to study large parts of the curriculum, who will not listen to, or will violently object to, such varied matters as the Holocaust, World War I, French colonialism (unless it is presented, falsely, as unrelived evil requiring endless compensation), the history of medieval and Renaissance France, the history of the French Revolution and the Declaration of the Rights of Man, and refusing to read all kinds of authors, from the half-Jewish Montaigne and Proust, to Voltaire (for his play "Mahomet") and the Encyclopedistes for their skeptical attitude, and Rousseau for his horrible individualism and that whole business of the volonte generale, the General Will, when Muslims know that the only thing that counts is the will of Allah, as expressed in the Qur'an, and elaborated upon through the words, the deeds, the silences of Muhammad.

In this new atmosphere, what was always there, what was inevitably there, what had to be there because Islam required it, the tenets, the attitudes, the atmospherics of Islam, that affect even those who are not full believers but who are raised in societies suffused with Islam, and cannot escape the attitudes it gives rise to, 7 is just now coming to be recognized. Those who forefeel events, because they apprehend the universe more quickly, with mental tentacles capable of grasping much more of reality at once, are now being joined, slowly, by others.

Of course the Infidel state of Israel, cannot be permitted to exist, whatever its boundaries. Of course that nonsense about "two tiny peoples" was only for Infidel consumption. Of course the Qur'an and Hadith permit of no compromise with Infidels, no leaving them this or that rump state on which to subsist. They are entitled to nothing. The world belongs to Allah and the Believers. How can a true Muslim be expected to ignore that, be expected to ignore the central duty of Jihad which is precisely that, collective and sometimes individual duty, to bring about the conditions that will assure the spread of Islam everywhere, until it covers the globe and dominates even in what were once part of Dar al-Harb, the Domain or House of War, where Infidels once ruled, and now, slowly, Muslims will come to rule, as by right and by commandment (Islam commands, Islam forbids0 they must.

It does not matter that the Jews who went to Palestine, or who are descendants of those who never left the area, sought only to buy land. It does not matter that all over the Middle East Jews under Muslim rule suffered as dhimmis, sometimes descending to the condition of chattel slaves, as in Yemen. No, they have no right to a refuge, no right to engage in land reclamation, no right to have a state of their own, not in Israel, and not anywhere.

And, in the same way, those people who live in the Bilad al-kufr, the Land of Infidelity, the Lands of the Infidels, whether those lands are divided into this or that nation-state or not, into places called "Italy" and "France" and "England" and "Denmark" and "Canada" and "the United States," have no right to a permanent existence as Infidel nation-states, where Infidels rule. That is not right. That is not just. That is contra naturam. That is against Islam. And Muslims, or a great many Muslims, not only think that sooner or later they will achieve their aims, through the deployment of many instruments of Jihad, including the money weapon (trillions spent, trilions more to come), and Da'wa (the Call to Islam), and above all, the continued growth in Muslim populations unhindered in the West, fueled by colossal differentials in birth rates (for Muslims, families of 8, 10, 12 children are part of their religio-political system: more Muslims to overwhelm the unreproducing Infidels of demoralized, hedonistic Western Europe), which amounts to, and has been expressly recognized by many Muslims (look at Boumedienne's speech in 1974 at the U.N.) who, convinced the West will never stop it, talk openly and gleefully of this demographic conquest.

Throw Israel to the wolves. Stop supporting the Americans. Soon: get out of NATO. Let Muslims rise high in the army and other security services, so that they will know that they are not mistrusted -- it could make them angry, it could make them take matters into their own hands. And don't you dare try to stop Muslim immigration,or try to enforce laws against polygamy, or try to expose fraud in the exploitation of the many entitlement programs that the Infidels of Western Europe have so heedlessly, so generously, offered to those who bear that alien and hostile creed, and look forward to the day when they can replace those Infidels as the dominant force in the country, and then lay down the law without having to engage in any pretense of "dialogue" or avoiding "a clash of civilizations." Islam is that clash of civilizations. Islam makes war, counsels Jihad, on all non-Muslims.

The only thing that is important, and welcome, about Al-Qaradawi's statement, is that it is truthful as to Muslim intentions, Muslim plans. Now it is up to the Infidels to take those truth-tellers seriously, and instead of trying to find ways, ever more disgusting, to distance themselves from the fate so obviously being prepared for Isarel, the countries of the Infidel world should realize that the Lesser Jihad against Israel, if successful, will only whet, not sate, Muslim appetites, and the disappearence of Israel, or its reduction to a state of permanent imperillment beyond anything any state or people should be asked to endure, much less the state constructed, against all odds, and with almost no help, by a population consisting very largely of the survivors and families of survivors of Europe's death camps, and those who survived the lives they or their ancestors had to live as dhimmis in Muslim-ruled lands in North Africa and the Middle East.

What happens in Israel will affect the possibility of Infidels retaining control of their own lands in Western Europe. Qaradawi's remark should be taken in, and instead of the word "Israel" simply subistitute, depending on where you live, such words as "France" or "Denmark" or "England" or "Italy."

Ultimately, "all the land of Islam" is not merely what Muslims now rule, or what they once ruled. "All the land of Islam" is the entire world.

If IRAN is basing their actions on THEIR belief in 'end time prophesy' (i.e. hidden 12th Imam), then why is it not significant to bring to light the Bible's take on the end time scenario?

The general hypocrisy of the fundementalist neao conservative christian extremists never fails to amaze me. terrorism was introduced to the middle east by the then stateless jews, they targeted both civilians and politicians. when their evil prevailed they exiled the palestinians(moderate christians included) and since then have continued to expand and ethnically cleanse the palestinians.

It's interesting to read Esposito's article and juxtapose it with Qaradawi's comments. Qaradawi is totuted as a reformer, yet his calls for a jihad to return Israel to Moslem suzerainty is straight out of the time-worn Moslem play book. It makes one wonder what the other scholars mentioned by Esposito actually think of Islam "reform" with respect to democracy, plurarility and human rights. I'd really like to hear Esposito justify Qaradawi's statements. Heaven save us all from such "reformers!"
