Howard Calls on Muslims to Accept Israel’s Right to Exist

Partial anti-dhimmitude from Australian Prime Minister John Howard. One hopes he is close to an epiphany that it is not a "hijacking" of Islam by a Tiny Minority of Extremists that is creating problems in his country, and that the resolution of all of the Muslim world's grievances with Israel would not do away with the jihadists' pursuit of open-ended wars of conquest and the subjugation of unbelievers.

The article also underscores the hazards inherent in the vague nature of the term "terrorism," which covers a host of ideologies, and whose definition can be manipulated to fit the agenda at hand: Muslim apologists have been known to label Israel's military operations as "terrorism," which they'll happily condemn all day. Far more meaningful discussions will begin to take place as the topic is narrowed to that of jihad and its accompanying doctrines calling for the subjugation of nonbelievers, and the replacement of secular law with Sharia.

From Arab News:

SYDNEY, 12 September 2006 - Muslims should be more critical of terrorism and nobody should "pussyfoot around" the link to extremism, Australian Prime Minister John Howard said yesterday.
In a series of media interviews to mark the 5th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States, Howard also urged Muslims to fully accept Israel’s right to exist and defended the invasion of Iraq.
"We shouldn’t pussyfoot around. No decent, genuine Muslim would support terrorism," Howard told The Australian newspaper.
"We are not attacking Muslims generally but you have to call terrorism for what it is -- it is a movement that invokes in a totally blasphemous and illegitimate way the sanction of Islam to justify what it does."
Howard, who sparked an angry reaction in the Muslim community earlier this month when he urged them to adopt Australian values, said it would help if moderates "on occasions... come out and be more critical of terrorism."
In a later interview with Sky television, Howard said an acceptance by Muslims of the right of Israel to exist and the establishment of a Palestinian state would remove one of the arguments used to justify terrorism.
"It wouldn’t stop terrorism, but it would remove one of the arguments that is constantly used to recruit the young, in particular, to the terrorist cause," he said.
However, Muslim leaders said Howard’s comments fuelled intolerance, and warned attacks on Muslims had happened in recent weeks after the prime minister called for immigrants to do more to integrate into Australian society.
"Instead of constantly singling out Muslim people, he should be trying to promote cohesion," Islamic Friendship Association president Keysar Trad told Reuters.
Australia has about 280,000 Muslims, making up about 1.5 percent of the population.
Canberra has gradually strengthened its anti-terrorism laws since Sept. 11, but Muslim leaders say their community has been unfairly targeted by authorities.
Howard said most Australian Muslims shared his views and condemned terrorism. "There are a small minority who in my view perhaps don’t condemn it as much as they should, and there is a resistance amongst some of those to integration in the Australian community." The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils said Muslim leaders had frequently condemned extremism since the US attacks and bombings in neighboring Indonesia over recent years, which left 92 Australians dead.
"We have told them over and over again, these extremists have no place in this country, there is no place for hatred in this country and if they can’t fit into society in Australia they must pack up and go," President Ameer Ali told Reuters.

Is that Aussie the man, or what?

I didn't think I could admire him anymore. And the other thing, that Cardinal in Australia has some nerve too.

Thank God they're on our side.

What would have been good was if he slipped in Spencer's Five Point Plan.

"We shouldn’t pussyfoot around. No decent, genuine Muslim would support terrorism," Howard told The Australian newspaper.

No, but an indecent genuine Muslim might support terrorism:

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 52, Number 220: Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "I have been sent with the shortest expressions bearing the widest meanings, and I have been made victorious with terror (cast in the hearts of the enemy), and while I was sleeping, the keys of the treasures of the world were brought to me and put in my hand." Abu Huraira added: Allah's Apostle has left the world and now you, people, are bringing out those treasures (i.e. the Prophet did not benefit by them). [Also see Sahih Muslim, Book 004, Number 1062, 1063, 1066, 1067; Sahih Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 87, Number 127 and 141].

59:13. You [Muslims] are certainly greater in being feared in their hearts than Allah; that is because they are a people who do not understand.

3:151. Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority: their abode will be the Fire: And evil is the home of the wrong-doers!

8:57. “If thou comest on them in the war, deal with them so as to strike fear in those who are behind them, that haply they may remember.”

Ishaq:326. If you come upon them (infidels), deal so forcibly as to terrify those who would follow, that they may be warned. Make a severe example of them by terrorizing Allah’s enemies.

8:60. “Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies, of Allah and your enemies, and others besides, whom ye may not know, but whom Allah doth know. Whatever ye shall spend in the cause of Allah, shall be repaid unto you, and ye shall not be treated unjustly.”

Ibn Ishaq:572 "Muhammad is the man, an Apostle of my Lord. Evil was the state of our enemy so they lost the day. Fortunes change and we came upon them like lions from the thickets. The armies of Allah came openly, flying at them in rage, so they could not get away. We destroyed them and forced them to surrender. In the former days there was no battle like this; their blood flowed freely. We slew them and left them in the dust. Those who escaped were choked with terror. A multitude of them were slain. This is Allah's war in which those who do not accept Islam will have no helper. War destroyed the tribe and fate the clan."

Tabari IX:42. "We have been dealt a situation from which there is no escape. You have seen what Muhammad has done. Arabs have submitted to him and we do not have the strength to fight. You know that no herd is safe from him. And no one even dares go outside for fear of being terrorized."

Ameer Ali:
"We have told them over and over again, these extremists have no place in this country, there is no place for hatred in this country and if they can’t fit into society in Australia they must pack up and go," President Ameer Ali told Reuters.

Takiyya. Ameer Ali wants hezbollah taken off the list of terrorist organisations. Ameer Ali needs to be placed on a terrorist watch list himself. He is a brainwashed, islamic death cultist in a suit.

As I say, terrorism is the fruit, islam is the root.

"'Instead of constantly singling out Muslim people, he should be trying to promote cohesion,' Islamic Friendship Association president Keysar Trad told Reuters."

Dear Mr. Trad:

John Howard is trying to promote cohesion by telling Muslims why they are out of step with the secular western democracies they seem to want to immigrate to in such large numbers. If you want Sharia law, etc., immigrate to countries that have adopted it.

So, when Prime Minister Howard asks Muslims to be more tolerant and to accept one country's right to exist, he is told that he is fueling intolerance.

An Orwell Duckspeak Award goes to IFA President Keysar Trad.

No decent, genuine Muslim would support terrorism...

This is an oxymoron. Any genuine Muslim is obligated by the Islamic canon (Koran, haditha and Sira) to support terrorism. The myth of the "moderate" Muslim is equivalent to the pre-September 1939 myth of the "moderate" Nazi. I'm sure that there were some non-violent Nazis working in the Gestapo. Sometimes a few good people get caught up in bad ideological movements. War against the non-Muslim world is enjoined upon all Muslims by the canon itself. This is a fact that cannot be denied by anyone, Muslim or non-Muslim. The ideology of Islam is a scaled-up tribal warrior code that has no meaningful place in the modern global civilization and it must either be contained or exterminated.

When I first glanced at the title, for a minute I thought the first word was "Harvard" and not "Howard." It would, after all, fit the presumption of the World's Most Self-Consciously Famous University, and of all kinds of Kennedy-School deans and deanlets.

What is wrong with this sentence???

"...The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils said Muslim leaders had frequently condemned extremism since the US attacks and bombings in neighboring Indonesia over recent years, which left 92 Australians dead..."

"US-attacks in neighboring Indonesia?" What kind of crapola is that?

What did the Bali/Jakarta-bombers have to do with the US?

Is this another one of these "Bush-did-9/11" conspiracy-BS-prop? In any case, it just shows you again how disingenuous the Mohammedans are every time you point a finger at them!

No, I don't think you will find too many of those Kennedy School deans and deanlets arguing for Israel's right to exist. They are far too worldly for that.

"What is wrong with this sentence???

Not worth worrying about except as one more example of the overall Decline and Fall. Merely a lapsus of language. Henry Fowler would be furious. So would Strunk. So would White.

Hugh,
Thank You and BINGO!, you're right on the mark.
As always, Keep up the great work you guys do.
KnightHawk

Sheik yer'mami and Hugh,

I believe you are misreading the sentence. "US attacks" would appear to be a reference to 9-11 attacks on the US, though Mr. Ali would appear to be unsure of the veracity of Islamic terrorists being responsible for these attacks.

Mr. Howard is such a deep disappointment.

No decent, genuine Muslim would support terrorism.

No Moslem is decent, for they worship the Koran and Sunnah, which combined is a manfesto for (and a history of) hatred, subjugation, exploitation, and murder, among many other bad and evil things.

What a ridiculous thing to say, Mr. Howard.

(Jihad) is a movement that invokes in a totally blasphemous and illegitimate way the sanction of Islam to justify what it does.

Mr. Howard, what these people do is not only not blasphemous and illegitimate of Islam, it is commanded by Islam.

Again, ridiculous.

Howard said an acceptance by Muslims of the right of Israel to exist and the establishment of a Palestinian state would remove one of the arguments used to justify terrorism.

Such acceptance by Moslems would be apostasy, and according to the ethos of Mr. Howard would force the Australian government to sanction mass depcapitations of such accepting Moslems.

The justification for terrorism (i.e., for jihad) is readily apparent, and it ain’t Israel. Perhaps this will help Mr. Howard gain some clarity on the subject about which he’s been spreading so much myth lately:

So, when you clash with the unbelieving Infidels in battle (fighting Jihad in Allah’s Cause), smite their necks until you overpower them, killing and wounding many of them. At length, when you have thoroughly subdued them, bind them firmly, making (them) captives. Thereafter either generosity or ransom (them based upon what benefits Islam) until the war lays down its burdens. Thus are you commanded by Allah to continue carrying out Jihad against the unbelieving infidels until they submit to Islam.
--- God’s commandment in Koran 47:4

Until such time as we can admit this stark reality to ourselves, we are all dhimmis.

Mr. Ali would also appear to have been previously against banning extremist groups and in favor of religious vilification laws, which so far appear to only have succeeded in suppressing criticism of Islam.

Howard also urged Muslims to fully accept Israel’s right to exist

My advice to Mr. Howard: Go teaching and urging cats to fully accept the mice's right to exist.

If you have succeeded with the cats, then perhaps (!) you can try to urge Muslims to fully accept Israel's right to exist.

I had hoped that Mr. Howard had an understanding of Islam but this statement reveals his ignorance.

Very disappointing.

He apparently has not bothered to educate himself about Islam.
Like so many he assumes that Islam is something like other true religions instead of the death cult it truly is.

Someone needs to take a clue bat to Western leaders...it is maddening to see such willful ignorance.

Mr. Howard, Islamic terrorists are the truest of Muslims, following Mohammed's commandments as laid out in the Our'an.

Someone needs to take a clue bat to Western leaders.

Mike_W, here’s a clue bat that’ll pummel them sensible:

A) Produce a series of 60 second spots re-enacting varous events taken from the Sunnah (Banu Qurayza, Asma Marwan, the Naklah robbery/murder/kidnapping, the Kinanah chest-campfire, and so on).

B) Make it abundantly clear that these TV spots are not only accurately based on Islamic scriptures, they are indeed worshipped by Moslems everywhere.

C) Attempt to place the ads, get turned down by the CEOs, Presidents, producers, and other Marxist opinion programmers who run the TV networks everywhere.

D) File lawsuits all over the map demanding that the spots be placed and aired. Sue for big damages.

E) During all press interviews, refer the general public to a website where they can download the spots to their iPods for their viewing enjoyment.

The ensuing political pressure would send even the legendary dumbass George Bush (Phillips Academy, Yale, Harvard) scuttling to the White House Library to read that new copy of the Koran he so proudly inserted there.

APF,

I like this line of thinking...use their actual words against them...

As for the "legendary dumbass club" George Bush,
has lots of company with Clinton, Carter, Ford and Nixon.

Each of those Presidents got bad advise from failed Foreign Policy makers.

We can't fix what is behind us, just use it as a reference of what not to do!

OT here, but I just saw this "Arab apology" from the NY Post today:

http://www.nypost.com/postopinion/opedcolumnists/one_arabs_apology_opedcolumnists_emilio_karim_dabul.htm

(I'm not sure if this will be a link, so I've sent it to Robert in an e-mail, too.)

Tidbits from this man's article:

'Well, I'm sick of saying the truth only in private - that Arabs around the world, including Arab-Americans like myself, need to start holding our own culture accountable for the insane, violent actions that our extremists have perpetrated on the world at large.

Yes, our extremists and our culture.

Every single 9/11 hijacker was Arab and a Muslim. The apologists (including President Bush) tried to reassure us that 9/11 had nothing to do with Islam, but was a twisting of a great and noble religion. With all due respect, read the Koran, Mr. President. There's enough there for someone of extreme tendencies to find their way to a global jihad.'

'One look at the average Arab regime should alert us to the fact that the problem, dear Achmed, lies not overseas or next door in Tel Aviv, but in the brutal, corrupt despots that we have bred from country to country in the Mideast, across the span of history.'

I wonder if he's for real??

Vee wrtoe:
"I wonder if he's for real?? "

Yep, some quick work, I was able to determine that he is real.

I hope for his sack, well protected.

I wonder if he's for real??

With so much of the truth getting out about Islam, it could be a clever attempt at taqiyya.
He is only repeating what is being said by infidels all over the Internet.

Many in the West, desperate to believe anything that would delay facing reality, would read these comments of an American Muslim and think,
"See, there are moderate Muslims facing up to the radical elements in Islam", and promptly fall back to sleep.

As for the "legendary dumbass club" George Bush, has lots of company with Clinton, Carter, Ford and Nixon. Each of those Presidents got bad advise from failed Foreign Policy makers.

Well, then it's time to institute a testing regimen whereby one may not enter the Oval Office of the presidential succession line without having first passed a written test on Islam (a reality-based test, of course).

No, wait a minute. That won't work. To do that, first we'd have to rename the current war the Islamic War. But, to do that, first we'd have to stop the appeasement pro-Islam mentality in the permanent government, universities, and media. But, to do that, we'd have to first expose Islam for what it is.

Which takes me right back to my point. This war ain't no grad school exercise. Our ruling elite (Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Georgetown, Princeton) are so ignorant and stupid that we cannot reasonably expect them to educate themselves about Islam. That would require cracking several books and reading (and understanding) them with an open mind. Ain't gonna happen. Just look at their track record to date.

* 33:21 ** 33:21 ** 33:21 ** 33:21 ** 33:21 ** 33:21 ** 33:21 ** 33:21 ** 33:21 ** 33:21 *

It's time to script, produce, shoot, edit, and release that series of 60 second TV ads I mentioned earlier. Otherwise our deterioriating situation will not improve.

It's time for some reality TV. Only the non-elites can recognize the reality confronting us.

In Britain we seem to have those who believe that all warfare is a travesty, but then extrapolate that the West is ultimately responsible for all hatred and therefore must disengage from all its enemies. In general these people also vote labour and think the European Super State is a great idea. Unfortunately they are also pre-disposed to believe that 911 was a neo con plot of a scale Hitler would blush at.

Well here’s some news for the little piglets. Dinner Jacket, Nasrallah and Zawahri really are the wolves at the door and they will blow your house down unless you are prepared to fight. They are huffing and puffing right now. Only the left is not barricading the door it is loosening the hinges.

If this was Animal Farm the pigs would be inviting the farmers in to destroy the windmill while they placated the farmyard animals with elevator music. The left have become the pigs not gorged on power but on self pity.

I walked past my Primary school recently and the playground around my first year classroom is now fenced off to protect the youngsters from the older children. I know nobody from my school who at the age of five got bullied by older children. The assumption is that all people are evil, even the small ones, so they must be protected. Bristol is being pressured to apologise for being part of a slave trade that Britain ultimately put paid to. I read a diatribe from an Irish man who strongly believes that Britain and America should be brought up on war crimes for the bombings of places like Dresden and Schwienfurt. He obviously ignores the fact that Nazism stamped its boots on millions of people across the World.

They are piglets with a Toyota Prius. Happy to live their isolated lives and send their children to paid schools while they expect the man and woman in the street to follow their advice but not the way they live their lives. Margaret Beckett comes from the government that brings you four wheel drive hatred. But she drives a Range Rover!

Blair is dead, but Gordon Brown wants you to think of the saying ‘The King is dead, long live the King’.

This is a golden opportunity to show your arse to the left. If you need a tool to beat them with then try the Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill. I defy anybody who loves liberty to investigate this bill and conclude that the Labour party should not be…

Knighthawk and Alarmed Pig Farmer,

Not that I relish in maligning the dead, unfortunately the Last Great President, Ronald Reagan, is inappropriately omitted from your list, so I'm reposting (courtesy Agent Bargholz, post #266161) a gut wrenchingly long list of the Gipper's failings in dealing with Islamic terrorism:

"The following description of Iran's attacks on America from 1980 to 1988 comes from an article by Norman Podhoretz, editor of Commentary magazine:

"In April 1983, Hizbullah—an Islamic terrorist organization nourished by Iran and Syria—sent a suicide bomber to explode his truck in front of the American embassy in Beirut, Lebanon. Sixty-three employees, among them the Middle East CIA director, were killed and another 120 wounded. But Reagan sat still.

Six months later, in October 1983, another Hizbullah suicide bomber blew up an American barracks in the Beirut airport, killing 241 U.S. Marines in their sleep and wounding another 81. This time Reagan signed off on plans for a retaliatory blow, but he then allowed his Secretary of Defense, Caspar Weinberger, to cancel it (because it might damage our relations with the Arab world, of which Weinberger was always tenderly solicitous). Shortly thereafter, the President pulled the Marines out of Lebanon.
Having cut and run in Lebanon in October, Reagan again remained passive in December, when the American embassy in Kuwait was bombed. Nor did he hit back when, hard upon the withdrawal of the American Marines from Beirut, the CIA station chief there, William Buckley, was kidnapped by Hizbullah and then murdered. Buckley was the fourth American to be kidnapped in Beirut, and many more suffered the same fate between 1982 and 1992 (though not all died or were killed in captivity).
These kidnappings were apparently what led Reagan, who had sworn that he would never negotiate with terrorists, to make an unacknowledged deal with Iran, involving the trading of arms for hostages. But whereas the Iranians were paid off handsomely in the coin of nearly 1,500 antitank missiles (some of them sent at our request through Israel), all we got in exchange were three American hostages—not to mention the disruptive and damaging Iran-contra scandal.
In September 1984, six months after the murder of Buckley, the U.S. embassy annex near Beirut was hit by yet another truck bomb (also traced to Hizbullah). Again Reagan sat still. Or rather, after giving the green light to covert proxy retaliations by Lebanese intelligence agents, he put a stop to them when one such operation, directed against the cleric thought to be the head of Hizbullah, failed to get its main target while unintentionally killing 80 other people.

It took only another two months for Hizbullah to strike once more. In December 1984, a Kuwaiti airliner was hijacked and two American passengers employed by the U.S. Agency for International Development were murdered. The Iranians, who had stormed the plane after it landed in Tehran, promised to try the hijackers themselves, but instead allowed them to leave the country. At this point, all the Reagan administration could come up with was the offer of a $250,000 reward for information that might lead to the arrest of the hijackers. There were no takers.
The following June, Hizbullah operatives hijacked still another airliner, an American one (TWA flight 847), and then forced it to fly to Beirut, where it was held for more than two weeks. During those weeks, an American naval officer aboard the plane was shot, and his body was ignominiously hurled onto the tarmac. For this the hijackers were rewarded with the freeing of hundreds of terrorists held by Israel in exchange for the release of the other passengers. Both the United States and Israel denied that they were violating their own policy of never bargaining with terrorists, but as with the arms-for-hostages deal, and with equally good reason, no one believed them, and it was almost universally assumed that Israel had acted under pressure from Washington. Later, four of the hijackers were caught but only one wound up being tried and jailed (by Germany, not the United States)."

I wish it weren't so.

After further study, Mr. Howard decided to stregnthen his platform:

Better solutions

The BNP has plenty of answers to the question “what makes peace possible in the city?”

For starters:
• Mosques, Islamic community centres and madrassas which preach hatred of the west should be closed, the preachers of hate deported.
• An end to softly-softly policing of heavily ethnic areas – a clampdown on the drug dependent criminal hoodlums who make life hell for the law abiding majority.
• Intelligence led policing to deal with the reality of the capital’s ethnic diversity; the migrant controlled criminal gangs; the Jamaican Yardies, Kurdish gangs, Chinese snakeheads, Albanian gangs, Afghanis all of who are vying for control of drugs, people smuggling, prostitution, gun-running and protection rackets.
• Increase the penalties which the judiciary can hand down for drug dealing and trafficking.
• Deport all migrants who commit criminal acts to their country of origin – no messing about releasing thousands of migrant criminals into the community where they are free to re-offend.
• Introduction of ethnic profiling at all locations vulnerable to terror attacks. This will put an end to the enormous waste of police time spent body searching nuns, Chinese and White pensioners, or searching the handbags of flaxen-haired teenage girls and concentrate on those fitting the description of “likely suspects”.

And perhaps most important of all a firm policy which can only come from a nationalist government that our capital city and our country is not up for discussion, not open to questions of ownership and that we are not going to make one single concession to those who choose to temporarily live here who adhere to a barbaric medieval desert religion.

Briars,

I completely agree with what you posted but I have very, very strong reservations about the BNP because it seems to me that it is anti-Semitic, anti-gay and seemingly, correct me if I am wrong, anti-coloured people also.

Pro-British I have no doubt that it is, but is it pro-freedom and, more particularly, strongly for the type of anarchic freedom (Time last week described British society as 'anarchic, disrespectful, chaotic and crazy - hoorah, of course we are and so we should be) which we British have enjoyed for the last hundred or so years and want to carry on enjoying?

Dominic.

Memo to John Howard: Fat chance of that happening!

"pussyfoot around" the link to extremism, Australian Prime Minister John Howard said yesterday.

At least in this PM has the courage to talk slang and non-PC without shitting himslef about having the usual 'PC Police' raving on about it in the editorials the next day.

Can an aussie tell me if aussues r dhimmies like europeans or not really?

Hi Dominic

I've read quite a lot of policy and articles on the BNP site, and think that they are trying to slowly sidle away from their image of anti-semitism and racism. But they are doing it very slowly and cautiously, because they know that their main support base (until recently at least), were racists. Now, I think the BNP realises that it is the only party speaking up about islamism and the protection of English cultural heritage, and that this can expand its support base, but only if they drop the racist crap from their agenda. As for the anti-gay stuff: they don't seem to be moving away from that, and won't feel obliged to unless they get the impression that there is a pro-gay vote they can win.

Currently, they are defnitely not the party anyone concerned about islam but supportive of freedom and equality would be seriously attracted to.

Both have many muslim related issues on their 'blogs as linked.

I live in Victoria and can honestly say there is not a person I know who cares for muslims whatever - be they left wing or right wing.

I know the federal treasurer Peter Costello is no dhimmi: he is very involved in the Hillsong church and his brother is a Baptist minister.
He declared there would never be sharia law in Australia and told people if they didn't like it they could leave.

I know the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Downer, is a FoxNews fan and always reads the latest Mark Steyn columns. Good sign I think!

Mr Howard looks like a wimp, but he isn't afraid to call a spade a spade. He was in the US on 9/11 as indeed I was.
Not everyone likes him, obviously,,but many concede he is a good politician. The Opposition side is,thankfully, hopeless! They generally have a lot of mo's in their electorates so they pander to them.
Hope that helps.

Just for a change - I am sure many of you have seen this, but it is a hoot!!
It has been jokingly suggested it should be part of an immigrant's admission test!Who could they be referring to?

AdvertisementFIVE years after 9/11, the Howard Government is fully subscribed to "a global struggle against terrorism" that, according to Defence Minister Brendan Nelson, must be prosecuted around the world and will continue indefinitely.

The "war on terror" doesn't fit the normal pattern for global conflicts. It is not an existential threat to any state and cannot change the distribution of military power in the world. The West struggles to articulate clear criteria for victory in the war, while Islamists have no chance of achieving their aims and virtually no appeal in the West. Threats to civilians are likely to continue but, as events in Britain demonstrated recently, they are more likely to be thwarted by effective policing and intelligence than by invading armies.

So why does the Australian Government, following Washington's lead, present the past few years — and a never-ending future — as fronts in a "war on terror"?

States prefer to lead with their strongest suit, and in Washington's case it is unrivalled strategic power.

Military prowess, however, rarely translates into political success, but what else can you do with armed forces unsuited to fighting asymmetrical conflicts? After the mission was allegedly accomplished in Iraq, it became obvious that, despite a fetish for high technology, there are no military solutions to the political and social challenges the West faces in the Middle East and Central Asia. And yet still more soldiers are sent to Iraq.

The habit of imagining monolithic anti-Western conspiracies is apparently hard to break. By presenting a range of separate contemporary conflicts as aspects of a "global struggle against terrorism", Western governments have again misled their populations by deliberately conflating several unique and largely disconnected events.

The strategy isn't new. Immediately after the 2001 attacks, the Turks (against the Kurds), Israelis (the Palestinians), Russians (the Chechens), Colombians (rebels), and Chinese (the Uyghur) intensified their domestic conflicts on the retrospective pretext that they too were prosecuting the global war on terror. They weren't, but 9/11 gave them a licence to repress without uncomfortable questions being asked in the West.

Here is a brief sample of what is called the "war on terror", as if the West faces a common unified enemy:

In Palestine, the democratically elected Islamic Hamas Government resists Israel's illegal occupation of the West Bank and regular incursions into Gaza. Canberra and Washington condemn the means of resistance, including suicide bombings, but not the expanding Jewish settlements on Arab lands that prompt the resistance. The "road map" to peace has collapsed and Washington's credibility as an honest broker is in tatters. The wrong guys won the election.

In Iraq, the US-led occupation has turned the country into a locus of terrorism at a devastating cost to civilians. The much-anticipated sectarian conflict between Sunnis and Shiites has begun, further immiserating a society we promised to liberate from tyranny. The incompetence of the occupiers has handed Iran a cost-free strategic victory of immeasurable value and the end of the war can't even be defined, let alone forecast

Despite the ugly rhetoric of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that the West likes to cite, Iran has indicated broad support for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict. In June, the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, declared that "Iran shares a common view with Arab countries about the most important Islamic-Arabic issue, namely the issue of Palestine". That means that Iran accepts the Arab League position: normalisation of relations if Israel withdraws to the international border. Instead of exploring this opportunity, Washington is now trying to contain the nuclear proliferation it encouraged by branding Iran part of an "axis of evil" and invading Iraq.

Canberra and Washington's support for Israel's attack on Lebanon drove Sunni and Shiite Arabs together in a common anti-US and anti-Israel front, significantly boosting Hezbollah's appeal in Lebanon and across the Arab world. By backing Israel, the West undermined the newly democratic Government in Beirut it claimed to be supporting, and further unsettled pro-Western governments in Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

In Afghanistan, the Taliban is resurgent and more powerful than at any time since November 2001. Poppy production is back at record levels. Suicide bombing has begun. The cause is hopeless, the war has no end in sight, and the Western-backed Karzai Government can barely extend its influence beyond the suburbs of Kabul. Afghanistan was supposed to be the model for Iraq. In an unintended way, it now is.

Al-Qaeda is a methodology that inspires loosely affiliated but mostly autonomous imitators such as Jemaah Islamiah. To the extent that it ever was an organisation in a hierarchical sense, it is virtually finished.

Its appeal, however, is largely undiminished thanks to George Bush's reckless adventurism and Washington's abuses at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay.

Despite very different circumstances, motives, struggles and groups, we are told these events are all connected — part of a vast anti-Western plot that we must prosecute as a war. This is a grievous error that avoids the need to address each of these challenges separately using diplomacy, intelligence and law enforcement. The war against terror is a hoax.

Gramfan,

Take a look at the weblinks at Scott Burchill's website,
http://scottburchill.net/

They link to such luminaries as Noam Chomsky, Robert Fisk, Antony Lowenstein, John Pilger, Karl Marx(Marxists Internet Archive), etc.

Scott Birchill, is in my opinion, not a dhimmi, not an idiot, but working for the other team.
He is part of the Marxist/Islamic alliance.

Thanks for that. No surprises there!!

Lili,

Thanks for the info. I'll check out the BNP site.

Ta.

Dominic.

Dominic and Lili:

I want to leave you with a very good article regarding the prejudicial view that the BNP is an anti-semitic organization. It is from its chairman, Nick Griffin, and it shows that its present philosophy has eveolved from its racists base.

As I said before, political parties can change. Look at the founder of the GOP Abraham Lincoln and its de-evolution to the present day George W. Bush.
