Iran test-fires 2,000-pound guided bomb

August 1939 Alert from AP, with thanks to Sr. Soph:

Iran on Thursday ended its large-scale military exercises by test-firing a 2,000-pound guided bomb, state-run television reported.

"It is a flying bomb and can be used as a guided long-range air-to-surface missile," Gen. Amir Amini, deputy commander of Iran's air force, told state TV.

Amini added that the bomb was a special weapon developed for penetrating military, economic and strategic targets located deep underground on the soil of the enemy.

The real bomb is islam which must be confronted, marginalized, defeated.

Out of the West, no negotiation, no compromising,

Got that Ibrahim ?

Iran keeps posturing for a first strike. I suspect Israel air defenses will quickly dispatch any incoming planes or missiles. (The US forces in Iraq should also be able to defeat air borne attacks easily). Iran does not appear concerned about a devastating counter attack which is sure to follow.

I'm confused. Whose deep underground do you want to penetrate?

I call bullshit. Just like Iran's "successful test firing" of the anti-ship missile that turned out to be recycled Australian footage.

You cannot fire a bomb. You can drop it. You can't drop a missle but you can fire it. Was is a missle or a bomb? If bomb a guided bomb like paveway?

A 2000lb bomb? Whoopde-fraggin-do. Why don't you see what the U.S. is packing; Daisy Cutters and MOABs. When it comes to bombs, size does matter. Iran is coming up a bit short, probably just like their fearless leader, Amatotalnutcase.

Gen. Amir Amini just wrote another check, watch out. A couple of details though.
1. You can only drop a bomb from a warplane.
2. There is no known method to put innocent women and children on warplanes.

Leave it to Trey and Matt, they've done it again.

Well General, I'll see yer 2,000 and raise you 20,000. Wanna bet?

The only guided bomb these idolaters have, has made in Ukraine, made in Russia, or made in China stamped on it

Global Jihad has made further progess today with the USD 1,25 billion acquistion of SR Technics, an aircraft maintenance company.

SR Technics is a leading Swiss based international provider of technical services in the aircraft, and was acquired today by three investors from the United Arab Emirates, Mubadala Development, Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE)and Istithmar.

At the signing in Zurich, Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi, Chief Operating Officer of Mubadala was delighted. "This is one of the most dynamic and high-potential assets in the aerospace industry."

SR Technics, a former subsidiary of Swissair maintains and repairs aircraft in numerous global locations as in Cork and Dublin in Ireland, in London Stansted, in The Netherlands, and in many more locations serving numerous customers such as Easyjet, Swiss, Cathay Pacific Airways, Austrian Airlines, Aer Lingus, Thai Airlines or Hong Kong's Dragon Air.

Anyone flying in aircraft or living under the flight air path or an airplane should be concerned.

Amini added that the bomb was a special weapon developed for penetrating military, economic and strategic targets located deep underground on the soil of the enemy.

He means the civilian population in bomb shelters.
Monster.

But, he later claimed, this 2,000-pound air-to-ground guided bomb is dual purpose and only meant for peaceful use. For example, it can be used to generate heat for the poor Iranian orphans huddling in the orphanage, which is located next to the milk-factory that happens to create nerve gas as a by-product.

France, Germany, Russia, and China said that that sounds reasonable, and that more study is needed, followed by giving more time for diplomacy to work.

Expect the same stupidity from Iran:

Al-Bbceera reported today that the Taleban have switched tactics and are now making frontal assaults against British positions. I assume they have a lot of fighters to waste because if they are trying to storm defensive positions occupied by the likes of the Paras in full frontal Allah Akbar! attacks then they must be dropping like flies.

Of course the BBC can’t help but show its true colours at the end, but hey it is the BBC.

Special Guest.....THAT was funny. :o)

I guess we will find out soon enough if their big scarry bomb is any good.

And in case I dont get a chance to respond in the CAIR thread.

CAIR Are you feeling the heat yet as the West begins to understand your lies. The time for your internment & expulsion is fast approaching. Mohammed was an immoral and derranged psycopath, take his sick teachings back to Crapistan now!

Oh and please feel free to quote that.

Whoops I meant 'scary'

I'd like to see the suicide-jihadi who could strap a 2000-pounder to himself to deliver it - 'cos they aint got any other way of getting it near us.

And the cretiban can banzai charge the Brit. paras from now 'til the crack of doom. It's just good target practice. And fair do's - soldiers all need target practice. Good of the cretiban to be so considerate.

I'm ashamed of al Beebeera though. Sorry folks, but they don't speak for me.

LOL ;-)

Let us speak the truth the un BBC way:

“The lightly-armed British soldiers often have to call for air support from American A-10 Tankbusters or British Apache helicopters.”

Or:

British soldiers armed with SA-80 Assault Rifles, 7.62mm General Purpose Machine Guns, LAW and 51mm Mortars have called in A-10 Tankbusters or British Apache helicopters to break up reckless Taleban attacks.

“The soldiers can be cut off - for days or even weeks at a time - in these isolated forward positions. Re-supply is difficult, and sometimes only possible by helicopters, of which there are not enough.”

This is the British equivalent of Air Mobile. If they are in isolated forward positions then they would be logically re-supplied by helicopter unless you are expecting a Hercules to touch down on the grit outside your isolated forward position under fire. Just as well those helicopters are getting through then. Unless of course these isolated forward positions are big enough to accommodate a Hercules spiralling down for a fast landing, in which case I doubt the British would be lightly armed.

“Commanders describe the Taleban behaviour as reckless, throwing people forward into exposed positions and losing many of them. That's why NATO thinks it has killed 1,000 insurgents over the course of the summer.”

“The risk for the coalition is that a change of tactics could look like a propaganda victory for the Taleban. And no military source I've spoken to pretends the conflict in Afghanistan will be anything other than difficult and bloody.”

Try and work that one out? How on earth does the failed attempt at frontal assaults by the Taleban and the obvious tactic of chasing them into the hills and beyond equate to a propaganda victory for the Taleban? I wonder if Paul Wood as a clue about that one.

“What is the exit strategy? Is victory achievable?

"Victory will depend, in that clichéd phrase, on winning the "hearts and minds" of ordinary Afghan peasants."

"But those are the same Afghan peasants to whom we're saying "don't grow opium anymore, even though it's your main source of income.”

Well Paul seeing as you mentioned the fact that the British have been cutting the enemy to pieces because of a tactical failure on the part of the fanatical, but basically stupid commanders leading the Taleban. I would say that major combat operations by the Taleban do not work.

As for your exit strategy, why do you need one when you are winning? Is victory achievable? I doubt it while they have millions of brainwashed cases waiting to fill the ranks. But they are welcome to fill the meat grinder if it keeps them out of Iraq.

Plus I am intrigued as to why you describe people you see in Afghanistan as peasants. Many are proud men and women doing what they need to do to survive in a harsh country. But you make it sound as though we are burning their livelihood and telling them to piss off. Surely the leftist love of the planet would not allow that to happen? In fact we are asking them to grow useful crops so people like Pete Doherty and the other wreck heads won’t drive their parents to despair.

Paul Wood I accuse you of stupidity or bias and I can't decide which one yet. But if it is bias against your own country then you a are a traitor.

OT

Not exactly 'The protect & survive manual' but worth watching.

Iran claims that they have developed a missle that can take aircraft that are "invisible to radar".

They also claim that they have modified, improved and are building their own fighter aircraft..a Soviet Equivalent of the F-15.. This is what they have claimed on IribTV Here, you can view it yourself by downloading free

On that clip I saw the Shafaq an YF 17 look alike, evidently they are building their own aircraft.. and btw they are a major trading partner with Germany and Europe, almost everything they use is imported, including most of their gasoline, as Iran does not have the refining capacity it needs to meet demand.

Sanctions will fail period, the world is forever locked (thanks to those of conservative and free trade ideology.. corporations) in interdendence, and business success and shareholder profitability relies on these firms and businesses (Europe and America) exporting to Iran and the Arab countries.

Shafaq (Before the Dawn)

The design for a new Iranian light attack aircraft the Shafaq / Shafagh (Farsi for “before the dawn”) appears to be a replay of a light fighter design developed more than 10 years ago at the Mikoyan design bureau in Moscow. This two-seat Advanced training and Attack aircraft appears to be based on the Russian-Iranian "Project Integral" and are fitted with Russian ejection seats. Reportedly there are plans are to produce three versions -- one two-seat trainer/light strike version and two one-seat fighter-bomber versions.

The Shafaq is a look-a-like of the YF-17. Shafaq is an advanced Light Attack/Trainer aircraft designed by the Aviation University Complex (AUC), part of the Malek Ashtar University of Technology. At the start of the program Iran received help from Russia and the aircraft was back then known as ''Integral'', Russia later backed away from this project due to several reasons and Iran carried on the project by itself and the aircraft became known as ''Shafaq''. The Shafaq is a sub-sonic aircraft, made of radar-absorbing material. It has a large leading edge root extension (LERX) and a root aft of the wing which gives it an unusual circular sub-section. A 1/7 scale model of the Shafaq has already completed testing in the AUC's wind tunnel and pictures have already been revealed which show that a Full-scale model has already been built. The Shafaq will be built in several variants which include a Two-Seater Trainer, Two-Seater Light Attack and a One-Seater Light Attack variant. Roll-out of the first prototype is scheduled for 2008. In August 2004 it was reported that the Shafaq prototype jet was ready for flight.

Ach, I see special_guest beat me to it. I would think that the Iranians would call the bomb a piece of construction equipment. A more expeditious way of digging building foundations over which they may erect orphanages and hospitals.
