Al-Maliki asks for the Thug-In-Chief's help in reining in the Sunni jihadists. Here we see looming in Iraq the Shi'ite client state of Iran that the U.S. has unwittingly helped put into place with its short-sighted democracy project. As we have noted here many times, that project failed to take into account the realities of Iraq and the realities of Islamic jihad. This is the fruit.
"Iraq Asks Iran to Reign in Militants," from AP, with thanks to all who sent this in:
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki made his first official visit to Iran, a close ally, asking the Islamic regime on Tuesday to crack down on al-Qaida militants infiltrating his country and seeking new deals to help Iraq's troubled oil industry. The visit reflected the complex relationship between Iran, a mostly Shiite Muslim country, and Iraq's government, now dominated in the post-Saddam Hussein era by Shiite allies of Tehran. Since Saddam's fall in 2003, Iraq has sought better relations with Iran and to heal scars left by the 1980-88 war that killed more than 1 million people on both sides.
The two enjoy increasingly strong ties that include new oil cooperation. Iraq has already turned to Iran for help with a chronic shortage of petroleum goods, reaching a deal last month to import Iranian gasoline, kerosene and cooking fuel. Iraqi officials said al-Maliki's visit and other recent exchanges could improve the cooperation.
DID he ask Iran to stop supplying the militants?
Did he ask Iran to secure the borders and prevent border crossings?
Did he ask Iran to cease funding of militants?
Is he so frightened of other Muslims (the Sunnis--the previous ruling elite)that he feels he needs Muslim firepower to kill these other Muslims.
Is he making deals under the table?
What is he offering Iran in return for their assistance?
Is he formulating a plan for a controlled civil war?
Is he isolating the Sunnis into death or submission?
Many questions that inquiring minds want to know the answers.
Unluckily, Bush’ speech on Monday has shown that he clings to the same wrong diagnosis of the disease.
He keeps thinking/saying that the problem is the lack of democracy in the muslim world, he doesn’t want to face the simple truth, i.e. that the muslims are trying again what they have tried many times already in their 1400 years long history: the conquest of the world.
They retreat and regroup when defeated (Poitiers, Lepanto, Vienna, etc.) but they come back attacking as soon as they think they have strength enough (or when they think their enemies are weak enough, that is the same).
(And today the world market has given hi-tech and nuclear technology to the muslim countries AND the subversives have been been busy weakening the Free World from inside, for fifty years).
The diagnosis should be different, the cure would consequently be different.
Stop the immigration, answer to the attacks with an overwhelming force, able to disarticulate the regimes of the monsters without engaging in silly “nation building”, throw a carrot to the ones who behave.
The demonrats of course are already entirely sold to the enemy, so I don’t discuss them in here.
There is an old Cree saying .. do not buy blankets from the white man , warmth is needed but not as much as breath. How dare our govt. spin this , what a slap in the face , get the hell out now , its the 4th quarter and we are down by 21 but we have a great quarterback on the bench. Democracy is more than elections , hamas proved that , everyone who has spent time there knows contracts and promises mean nothing to them
even Lawerence of Arabia knew this. We are flogging a dead horse , good faith is lost to them, its all about ruling the dhimmi , thats us folks. Look to the founders for strength.
Well said Hugh, divide and conquer , we need new blood at the helm , not spilt on that cursed land. We must protect our Judeo-Christian Utopia.
everyone who has spent time there knows contracts and promises mean nothing to them
even Lawerence of Arabia knew this.
Well, they tried to part my hair down the middle on more than one occasion and I must qualify the insight above only modestly.
To paraphrase Animal Farm, some contracts and promises are more equal than others.
I stand on the koran, heels ground in, to corroborate that point too.
Please, imadinnerjacket, PLEASE reign in your jihadists. Right. They are one in the same. It's useless to continue with these people.
several areas in the US has accumulated a large Muslim voting block. The Muslims will use elections in the US to cause miserable conditions. Imagine what happens when Muslims become mayors, governors, senators, congressmen. We should ban Muslims from holding office NOW. Ban Muslim immigration NOW. NO MORE student visas--what a joke.
True enough, however I am alluding to all including the fair and equal. My understaning is that if a contract or promise does not mesh with the perceived good of the Islamic ideals its ok to outright lie and decieve to achieve . This relates to everything from the purchase of a cup of mint tea to nuclear weapons. Arab dealers are famous for this bait and switch.
Wait--Iraq wants Iran's help in squelching *Sunni* insurgents? How would Iran do that unless they were given free access to Iraq? (Now if it was *Shi'ite* insurgents they asked for help with, it would make more sense, since in addition to "home-grown" Shi'ite radicals, many are being backed by Iran, anyway).

from above:
The two enjoy increasingly strong ties that include new oil cooperation. Iraq has already turned to Iran for help with a chronic shortage of petroleum goods, reaching a deal last month to import Iranian gasoline, kerosene and cooking fuel.
............
What the hell is this all about? Classic "coals to Newcastle". My understanding is that while Iran is flush with oil (as is Iraq, despite jihadis setting the wells on fire all the time), that they are so technologically backward that they have virtually no refining capacity--so much of this gasoline, kerosene and cooking fuel must be expensively refined in China or the EU. (This is part of the reason at least a few people are buying the "peaceful nuclear power" canard--that Iran has to re-import refined petroleum products). My understanding is that Iraq, despite inefficiencies and general chaos, actually has more and better refining capabilities than does Iran.
If this is the case, then all this can be is some weird pretext for closer relations--probably meant to strengthen the Shi'ite dominance of Iraq.
"the U.S. has unwittingly helped put into place"
Unwittingly? Yeah, right.
Exactly according to plan.
Once the West has extricated itself from Iraq, Iran will quietly assume control and form the New and Improved 'Axis of Evil' to replace the lamented 'Evil Empire'.
New high technology weapons sales to our 'Close Allies' the Saudis and all the other dictators of the Gulf. And by weapons sales I mean 100's of billions of expatriated US dollars (fossil fuel dollars) will come flooding back as we sell space/air/ground weapons platforms, surveilance systems, maintenance contracts, training contracts, upgrade contracts and all the other hundreds of support and services that the US can provide to help our 'Close Allies' protect themselves from the atomic powered Islamic Jihad on their borders.
What a Win Win situation for the US! All those trillions of US petro dollars will start flowing back as the great Military Industrial Complex revives and brings back high technology trade and enterprise to US citizens and companies. High profits, high wages and lots of work for everybody BUT these jobs will only flow to US firms on US soil because of their military significance - no off-shore manufacturing except for the closest of allies (sorry China).
Now, who doesn't want to see a second age of growth and prosperity for the American West?
CD Baric
Perfect timing! Only 2 days after Bush's speech in which he reaffirmed his policy of counter-terrorism by spreading so-called "democracy," we have a great counterexample:
The "democratically elected" (Shiite) government of Iraq allying itself with (Shiite) Iran. Iran, of course, is the enabler of (Shiite) Hezbollah, which is an integral and perhaps dominant part of that Great "Democratic" Government of Lebanon.
And with Iran a rising power throughout the Middle East, the chance that they will back down on their nuclear program is zilch.
I dare that Bush apologist, Jeff Bergholz, to come back here and try to spin this one.
$500 billion is about $1600 per head. An expensive lesson but an affordable one.
No more good money after bad.
Iraq has the third largest oil reserve in the world. If they want continued security, they can pay Blackwater Consulting themselves.
POITIERS-LEPANTO writes:
The most important thing the West needs to do is find a substitute for OPEC oil, thus driving down the price of that oil on world markets and wrecking the Middle East Muslim economies. Shut off the money spigot to terrorism and incitement to jihad!
I'm going to offer this general rule of thumb: Any strategic plan for dealing with the threat we face that does not mention the terms "oil" or "energy," is fundamentally flawed and not worthy of further consideration, no matter how clever it is about military tactics or law enforcement legalisms.
If Iran and Iraq are such close buddies, why did I read this??

HMMMMM there's something wrong with this picture...
Eventually Iraq and Iran will merge to become a "new" nation. Babylon will be reborn. It will also come to a terrible end. Read your Bible.
Waste-to-Fuel Technology Thrills Spectators from Around the World at Washington Demonstration

Issaquah, WA - - August 1, 2006 - - Green Power, Inc., a Washington based company, thrilled spectators at their demonstration on Wednesday, July 26. Green Power, Inc. demonstrated their new technology of turning everyday landfill waste into diesel fuel, in a process called Catalytic Depolymerization.
“We really can convert regular household waste, medical waste, anything that is not radioactive, metal, glass or porcelain, into diesel fuel,” said Michael Spitzauer, CEO of Green Power, Inc.
The demonstration took place in Fife, Washington and was witnessed by approximately 200 onlookers, including various government officials, oil refinery, corporate representatives and media. Visitors from as far as India and Japan came to witness the demonstration.
Ramesh Kumar Jalan, an advisor for Delhi Waste Management in India, flew in for the demonstration. “I’ve been evaluating waste management for 15 years and have never seen anything like this,” said Jalan, who has a doctorate degree in waste management. He also said he was optimistic about this technology and its potential in India. Before his return to India, a tentative agreement was reached to build plants in his country.
“I went in skeptical and came out optimistic that they have something viable,” said Peter Moulton, who manages the Harvesting Clean Energy program for Climate Solutions, an Olympia based nonprofit group.
Green Power’s mobile demonstration unit, mounted on a tractor-trailer rig, is intended to visit cities across the country this summer and fall. The mobile demonstration unit is a miniature version of a much larger, permanent plant that will consume, depending on size, from 500-2000 tons of landfill waste per day.
A typical 500 ton-per-day plant is actually 5, 100-ton plants stacked together. This provides an element of redundancy, standardization and reliability. The entire plant does not have to be shut down for maintenance or repair. Additionally, manufacturing costs will be reduced. As a site’s capacity needs to increase, additional units can be added without a major redesign.
The plant will yield approximately 75,000 gallons of very high grade diesel fuel in the same period, with zero pollution, thanks to Green Power’s patented, low-temperature process. The cost to produce the fuel will be extremely competitive, estimated at .52 to .58 USD per gallon.
The first plant is to open next year on tribal land in the Tacoma suburb. A second plant will be located in Montana on land already purchased. Green Power, Inc. hopes to have 1,500 operational plants across the country. This will help solve not only landfill issues but also imported oil issues.
Arrangements are presently underway to receive technical verification and standardization, through Combustion Resources of Provo, Utah, as well as Idaho National Laboratories, two independent and nationally recognized research firms, which specialize in study and verification of similar technologies. Their initial analysis should be complete within a few weeks,
