Jihadists try to take U.S. Embassy in Syria

Amid the maudlin, self-pitying outpourings that dominated 9/11 press coverage, jihadists in Syria remind us that it is not time to weep, it is time to fight for our lives.

Don't get me wrong. I am not saying the dead of 9/11 should not be mourned. Far from it. But on the December 7s after Pearl Harbor, there was nothing like the pity parties and orgies of self-recrimination that have come on every 9/11, and this year was the worst of all. There was just determination to prevail. We should learn a lesson from that.

"Gunmen try to take U.S. Embassy in Syria," from AP:

DAMASCUS, Syria - Islamic militants attempted to storm the U.S. Embassy in Damascus on Tuesday using automatic rifles, hand grenades and at least one van rigged with explosives, the government said. Four people were killed in the brazen attack, including three of the assailants.

No Americans were hurt, and the attackers apparently did not breach the high walls surrounding the embassy's white compound in the city's diplomatic neighborhood....

Witnesses also said the gunmen tried to throw hand grenades into the embassy compound, shouting "Allah Akbar!" or "God is great!" It was not clear if any of the grenades made it over the walls, which are about 8 feet high.

Jihadists try to take U.S. embassy in Syria?

Why not just give it away?!

Allah does not seem to be so Akbar if he lets his little jihadists get shot...

Enjoy your white raisins, Muhammads!

Still dont understand why the Israelis didn't bomb the crap out of Syria.

Oh yeah, they had a Clinton clone called Olmert running the show.

God bless our fighters who protected the embassy.

We apparently killed only three of the attackers: eat your heart out Jimmy Cata, you lost three of your allies to whom you could 'extend your understanding'.

why do we even have anyone at the embassy? The ambassador was withdrawn a year ago over protest of the Syrian involvement of the assisnation of Rafiq Hariri in Lebanon.

Another report states US marines returned fire. If the attackers were killed, I would wager they died from Marine bullets and not Syrian bullets.

I would not rule out Syrian involvement in the attacks.

WHY DO WE STILL HAVE PEOPLE IN THE EMBASSY IN SYRIA? Are we hoping for a Daniel in the Lion's Den miracle? Do we want to give the Jihadist a target? I find this insane.

Call it a hunch or whatever, but I think this is a sign that our embassies in the ME will be targeted.

This particular attack seemed kinda amateur IMO. Watch for operations that are comparable to the compound attacks in Saudi Arabia a year or two ago: well-coordinated attacks utilizing bomb trucks and storm tactics.

Debka file reports:

"DEBKAfile’s military sources report the 18 truck-mounted mobile radar systems and three command vehicles, billed as “weather-observation equipment,” were a part of a consignment Iran purchased from North Korea for Hizballah. "

Syria was not listed as the consignee. But the Syrian government asked Cyprus to release the seized consignment.

Yep , it sure looks like we can trust Syria (UGH),Why, it still looks like Syria is aiding and abetting the terrorists. AND it looks like the terrorists in Syria are gearing up for more action.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/5338518.stm

Sure did take the BBC (Baghdad Broadcasting Company) a long time to report this story.

The Raw Story reported it on September 6!

http://rawstory.com/news/2006/Cyprus_police_discover_arms_on_carg_09062006.html

,” were a part of a consignment Iran purchased from North Korea for Hizballah. "

Yeah...and I wonder how much nuclear material Iran has purchased from North Korea in exchange for their funding of North Korea's nuclear programme.

Oh....and how many Chinese made missiles has North Korea traded with Iran for nuclear technology?

Meanwhile, the UN, EU, US all sit on their thumbs. Looks like Israel will have to drop a mushroom when Bibi takes over.

P.S. If you don't like the way Olmert handled the war....remember that when you consider electing a Dimmicrat.

Goobs: how do you get from some failed suicide bombers in Damascus to 'watch out for the democrats!' too much Murdoch news me thinks.

I was responding to exsgtbrown (see above)....Syria has agreed to keep watch on its borders to prevent Hezbollah from being re-armed! HA HA HA That's putting the fox in charge of the chickens.

As for earlier comments on how Olmert was similar to Clinton....my comments refer to that type of passive thinking....

As for Murdoch....I only receive local news and additionally, regarding Murdoch...would you be refering to his right wing Fox News or his lefty-liberal Sky News? I'm confused.

Same old story, the attempted wimpification of our culture and the desire to be a victim above all other things. They need to crawl back under the bed until the world is made safe for them again.

The Goobs,
Shame on you, suicide bombers don’t kill people Pres. Bush does. The Dhimmicrats told me so it must be true!(puke)

I'm kind of surprised no one tried to burn down the embassy before this week.

The dhimmicrats want to crawl under a rock and "redeploy the troops". Useless jargon for quitting the fight.

Everyday there are events involving Muslims. 95% of all the problems in the world involve them. Yet their postive contribution to society is 0%.
If we were playing a team sport they would have been fired, kicked off the team long ago.

Islam is not peace, it's WAR. Their god allah is not our GOD.

Muslims are not the victims, our civilisation is the victim.

Time to sign kick the trouble makers out of our countries, strip them of our western passports, put them back on the woodern boats they arrived on and let them roam in the sandy deserts where they belong.

how about the EU peacekeepers are deployed to Afghanistan? That's not quitting, and the Brits and Canadians could use their help.

sorry, meant to say the peacekeepers being deployed to Lebannon. Send them to Helmut province

Like all theaters and mock events, the bombing is is a staged event made out of the scripted dealings of Syria or more specifically the Syrian secret services. Syria is a totalitarian state, every aspect of poeple' lives is controlled. Nothing go unnoticed. Are you telling me they were unaware of this? Who is fooling who? Again we are dealing with a chameleon like state, who is willing to send two or three people to die by embassy police just to prove that it is indirectly affected by these terror groups.

It is funny. Walid Jumblat (Lebanese Druze leader) made it clear that Syria is always creating problems in Lebanon by willingly supporting all sort of terror groups and calling it resistance to Israeli occupation. What a joke, What parts of Lebanon were under occupation anyway? Why can't Syria fight for the Golan Heights for example? That's what I call occupation. Jumblat said it, Israeli and enropeans tourists are all the time enjoying the sunny Golan Heights while the Lebanese citizens bear the suffering of the indirect and scheming agenda of Syria by taking advantage of the multi-ethnic Lebanese cuture.

Two possibiilities:

1) The attack was a real one by Sunni Muslims, local members of the Ikhwan or of some similar group, the same people suppressed so ruthlessly by Hafez al-Assad. In other words: Sunni Muslims, who believe naturally that the 70% of the population of Syria that is Sunni Muslim should rule. Come to think of it, they would be convinced of that if the Sunni population of Syria were not 70%, but 7%, or .7%.

2) The attack was staged by the government itself, in order to show that it too was a victim of terrorism, and it too could resolutely defend the American Embassy and Americans, so that all this nastiness and pressure from Washington should stop. How, you ask, might it have staged such an event? Well, there are so many ways. Agents of the Alawite regime might have convinced some Sunnis that they would be allowed to express their displeasure by attacking the American Embassy, and the government would not prevent it, would do nothing to stop them. And then, once the attack took place, the doublecross, with three down, and one -- merely "wounded" for the sake of preventing the kind of speculation here, that would arise in other minds if all four had been dispatched at once -- to go. That fourth, "wounded" man may not survive his wounds -- in any case, it is as unlikely that he will be made available for free interrogation by Western powers, any more than were those Syrian officials who arranged the Death on the Corniche (Agatha Christie, where are you?) of Hariri, the fixer-billionaire turned by his murder into the patron saint, for some, of the short-lived Cedars Revolution. (What Hariri and his son were all about is building Lebanon as a place of pleasure-palaces for rich Saudis: their very own Arabic-speaking Nantucket and Hamptons rolled into one). Or, for that matter, any more than the government of Musharraf will ever permit the interrogation of A. Q. Khan.

Mirrors, labyrinths, bottomless boxes, el enganador enganado.

"War is deception."

Those who are born into, and are raised, in societies suffused with such an idea, and consequently where, even in daily life (and not just in cheating like mad the foreign effendis visiting the souks, begging to be cheated)) everyone mistrusts everyone, because no one can trust anyone, will have such things as staged attacks come naturally.

"War is deception." Also sprach Muhammad. Never to be forgotten.

The reason that there are still personnel in the embassy is that there are ALWAYS a number of CIA agents assigned to each embassy whose cover is a state department employee. They are often the last ones out.

"1) The attack was a real one by Sunni Muslims,
2) The attack was staged by the government itself, in order to show that it too was a victim of terrorism, and it too could resolutely defend the American Embassy and Americans,"

Or 3) it was perpetrated by the Bush Administration to garner support for the war. (tongue firmly planted in cheek).

Naturally, it would be well-nigh impossible to find proof that Syrian terrorist proxies were behind the attack. But if the truth ever came to light, what is one to make of an attack upon an embassy, which is properly the territory of the United States of America and is considered sovreign U.S. soil? Our tolerance of acts of war amazes me.

I think the coming years are going to see a renewal of jihad attacks against the West, due in part to the perception that the American people are waning in their resolve (what there was of it, anyway)to fight against jihad. I lay part of the blame right at the doorstep of the occupant of the White House, who never asked the American people to make sacrifices and to gird themselves for war. The rest of it I lay at the doorstep of the Left's constant anklebiting, obfuscation, and obstructionism.

Well we were not the first:

Syrian demonstrators protest outside the burning Danish embassy in Damascus February 4, 2006. Hundreds of Syrian demonstrators set the Danish embassy on fire on Saturday to protest the printing by a Danish newspaper of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad, a Reuters witness said. (REUTERS /Khaled al-Hariri)

AND a warning from time past:

Syria Warning

"On the morning of November 9, the American Embassy in Damascus received a phone call threatening the U.S. Diplomatic Mission if any actions were taken against Iraq. The threat was specifically against the official mission and its staff, not against private citizens, including Americans. The American Embassy currently has no other information suggesting a threat to either official or private Americans in Syria. Nevertheless, given the current tensions in Iraq and the international community, the Embassy wishes to remind the American community in Syria of the continuing need to be aware of security concerns. American citizens should remain alert and aware of their surroundings and not hesitate to report suspicious persons or activities to the appropriate authorities."

The terrorists make warning and threats, It may take a while, but they will try to follow through. This is why every threat given by a terrorist must not be overlooked or dismissed as irrevelavant.

The terrorists goals remain "Death of the infidels"---REMEMBER IT.

I'm betting it was Mossad - those gloriously omnipotent bastards.

AND FROM 2000, WE SEE the Syrians attacking more embassies:

A report recently compiled by Acción por la República, an Argentine political party headed by former minister Domingo Cavallo, provides new evidence of Syrian complicity in the 1992 bombing of the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires. The bombing on March 17, 1992 killed 29 people and wounded more than 200. The embassy attack was followed by a second bombing on July 18, 1994 which destroyed the AMIA building in Buenos Aires, which housed several Argentine Jewish organizations, killing 86 people and wounding several hundred.

Islam loves to attack and kill.REMEMBER IT

REMEMBER THE AFRICAN EMBASSY BOMBING???

Give the US warning and we still ignore it:

Soon after her arrival as ambassador to Kenya in 1996, Prudence Bushnell began raising alarms about the embassy's lack of security. She sent repeated cables warning the State Department that the embassy needed to be re-evaluated and take measures to ensure it was adequately protected. Unfortunately her pleas fell on deaf ears. According to one State Department official, Bushnell was seen as a "...nuisance who was overly obsessed with security." To placate the ambassador, the State Department did send a security team to inspect the embassy and they determined that it met their standards for a "medium threat". Concurrently, the State Department had determined that Africa was a low risk in its terrorism assessment. In addition to Bushnell's warnings, General Anthony Zinni visited the embassy in early 1998 and warned the State Department that there were significant security flaws and that the embassy would be an easy and tempting target for terrorism. Ultimately the State Department determined that security upgrades were both unwarranted and fiscally unnecessary

CGW said

Yes, but if we keep our respective embassies open, that would mean we have Syrian intelligence agents here, operating under diplomatic immunity. Who has more to lose?

Isn't the usual Islamic conspiracy theory explanation going to be that the Mossad were behind this ?

The Muslims were looking for a new mosque location and those fithy infidels have this prime real estate location. Besides, the Muslims just want to kill all non Muslims, the evil text the Qur'an says it is the thing to do.

Western embassies should be closed wherever it is believed that the local government either participated in, or looked with indifference or favor on such an attack. In that way, as the embassies shut down all over the Muslim lands, there will be no possibility of obtaining those visas that are still, unaccountably, handed out -- and in Syria, still, handed out, amazingly, often to the most devout, and therefore the most dangerous, Muslims.

...on the December 7s after Pearl Harbor, there was nothing like the pity parties and orgies of self-recrimination that have come on every 9/11, and this year was the worst of all. There was just determination to prevail. We should learn a lesson from that.
.............

Just so. I think the idea of "closure" is often misused and certainly overused. I can't believe how many queries were made of 9/11 survivors and victim's loved ones as to whether they had reached "closure". How could they have? This is ongoing--the Jihadi threat is growing, if anything. It's not even as though OBL has been captured.

Thanks for mentioning this, exsgtbrown. "Redeploy the troops" is absolutely meaningless by itself.

re·de·ploy (rd-ploi)
tr.v. re·de·ployed, re·de·ploy·ing, re·de·ploys
1. To move (military forces) from one combat zone to another.
2. To shift (something) from one place or use to another for greater effectiveness: redeploy the company's resources.

Of course, there have been brilliant troop redeployments in history--in WWII, for example, moving troops from North Africa to Northern Europe to the Pacific as the war progressed.

In many cases, though, there is no modifier used at all--it is a phrase that is meant to mean all things to all people. There was a Democratic party strategist on the O'Reilly show--O'Reilly said that many democrats critisized the war in Iraq, while having no plan of their own. The guest disagreed--the plan was--redeployment!

Redeployment can mean anything from immediate withdrawal of all troops, shifting of troops from one theatre to another, using troops differently (i.e. shifting from combat to security), or even shipping in lot of new troops.

I think that they hope that each person will simply use their own interpretation of what "redeployment" would mean to them, and not question too closely what it would mean to the candidate.

Robert,

There are political circumstances behind this event, if it really occured.

We shouldn't be mislead by appearences. The Syrian itelligences is behind what happened at the US embassy. There are two possible scenarios:
1. Either they (i.e. the Syrian intelligence) told these jihadists that they can go and blow the embassy and that later the aborted the operation by killing those same jihadists,
2. Or, they are lying and all what was shown on television is a setup, including blood which could simply be fake blood. You shouldn't forget that filming with camera videos inside Syria is forbidden. Whenever the Syrian government releases one of those filmed reports, it is intended as a political message for the outside.

However, it is possible that by showing pictures of the embassy (including zooming on the American flag hanging on the embassy), they are giving hints to anybody who wants to go and blow the embassy.

In any case, through this, the Syrians are trying to black-mail and threaten the US.

You shouldn't forget that now the Lebanese government is discussing the project of an international court to trial those involved in the murder of PM Rafik Hariri. Bashar al-Asad is the prime suspect. The report of the investigation in this case will also be released to the UN soon.

Posted by SleepyCat: Isn't the usual Islamic conspiracy theory explanation going to be that the Mossad were behind this ?

Only if it would have been successful. Then the Mossad would be blamed for giving the US pretext to attack (poor victim) Syria.

Don't blame the families and friends of victims for honoring their loved ones killed. Day in and day out Firefighters, Police, and other emergency personnel do their part in keeping us civilians safe. They are doing their part everyday, so for one day, they mourn. As far as the widows and widowers, mothers and fathers of those killed on that day, they are also doing their part by working hard, and raising children alone. This is the American work ethic that keeps these victims moving along. And if they feel, for one day out of the year, one day that is burned in their minds, much more so for about 3000 people, that they can greive, and remember their husbands and fathers, wives and mothers, than it should not be frowned upon. Most families know the global task at hand, and it is heard about every day, on every news channel (not to mention that it is usually negative news.) For one day, they want to remember the heroism of their loved one, without the negativity. Family and friends, and all of those who appreciate the rememberance need not "crawl back under the bed until the world is made safe for them again." They have lived terror, and they are the first to get back on a plane, or ride the subway; and those firefighters still respond to every call, on any day. A day of mourning does not take away from the job at hand, and most of the friends and family of victims that I know agree.

Also, I remember a time when the thought was that it is good to show the memorializing, and to show the video of that day, for it inspired citizens to do their part. From personal experience, Sunday and Monday were emotional days, but that emotion only leads to more determination, and a greater will to get the message out that the religion of hate is just that, and that we need to rid the world of Islam once and for all.

To praphrase a toast, made by an FDNY Captain this past Saturday, " We raise our glasses to commemorate the 343 brothers we lost that day five years ago, and also to commemorate that day which sparked a global fight against terror in the name of Freedom. Amen."

...'Allah Akhbar' does NOT mean 'God is Great' it means 'Allah is Great'.

I have read the correct translation is 'Allah is greater', i.e., greater than YOUR god.

What a senseless massacre.

Gotham,
I’m talking about the media.
On 9/11 the jihadis had long before declared war on us, the fact that we ignored this is our own fault. Over the century’s many Americans have been killed and many a family has suffered a loss. I have no problem with the victim’s families or any others that want to pay tribute to those lost. We should use that day to strengthen our resolve to move forward in the fight. And yet I heard tons of the why do they hate us so much garbage. It only gets more dangerous with each passing day. Many Americans died well before that day as a result of jihadi terror and many have been lost since, and we are far from the end of it all. Do you propose making this a national day of mourning? If so I’m willing to discuss it.

'No Americans were hurt'

Oh, that's the most important thing of COURSE! No mention of the Syrian security guard who lost his life defending aforementioned Americans...

"Islamic militants". How many times are people going to hear this claptrap before they realize that that the problem is Islam, not "militants" who have "perverted their religion"? Mohammed perverted his cult from the start. He was the original terrorist, rapist, caravan robber, murderer, pedophile, pervert, thief, slaver, liar, and a lousy poet. I am sick of all this PC crap to try and appease the "moderate" muslims.

This was obviously setup by W and his administration to tie Syria to terrorism. The CIA and ASPCA were involved in this dogged attack on the US embassy. If you look close at the pictures from this attack, you will see that the burned out vehicle is surely a Saturn Ion. Only CIA types and extra-terrestrial beings drive those vehicles.

tgusa, I hear ya..... I do agree that the "why do they hate us" jibberish is BS. We all know why they hate us; we're free to worship, speak, and live pretty much as we please. Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness is Chinese to them.

I believe that the healthy tributes and memorials that take place do strengthen our resolve to move forward in the fight. At least for me they do.

It is true that many Americans have died previously due to Islam, and it's all too sad that Americans don't trumpet those tragedies (made me most sick when it was almost non-existent during the recent Isreali-Lebanon battle, and the fact that well over 200 Americans were killed by the very same people 23 years ago.)What is also true is that 9/11 is the event that "Awoke a sleeping Giant." And although, there were other incidents, 1993 WTC bombing included, this was the one that really changed our world.

As for a national day of mourning, I'm on the fence about that. I for one take the day off for my family, and the fact that I'd probably get nothing accomplished at work that day. But,I also believe that what the terrorists attacked were our daily duties of work and family, and our American way of life. In that case, it is a greater testement to be at work on that day. Also, many say that 9/11/01 compares to 12/7/41, thus no observance day should be official; but the difference was that a Military installation was attacked in Pearl Harbor, and a civilian target was chosen for 9/11. The only people that ever expected to actually have a possibility of dying when they went to work were the FD, PD, and Feds who were there that day.

Unfortunately, it seems we've been hitting the snooze button on the latest wake up call (again), but there will be another.

Anyway.... we will continue to do our part, sometimes not quite knowing what that is. One thing for sure though, you can't trust Islam.

JERUSALEM – The attack today against the United States embassy in Damascus was orchestrated by American intelligence to embarrass the Syrian regime and extract political concessions, a senior member of Syrian President Bashar Assad's Baath Party claimed to WND.

Sorry. I really think that blaming George for this one is a bit of a stretch, don't you?

Actually, at the risk of sounding like a Bush supporter, such an assertion as stated above is just plain nuts!

In some circles, apparently not; so why George wants to help these people, beats me.

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=51942

Common Sense regarding Islam.

Pluralism is pure poison for all the ALL-ONE-GOD-FAITHs of the world such as radical secularism, communism, Nazism, and Islam.

Yet unfettered pluralism in the form of 'multiculturalism' is also proving to be a poison elixir for genuine democratic pluralism in the West -- the credo which embraces our 'out of many, ONE' or E Pluribus Unum ideas.

The great challenge of our time will be determining the correct model to safely avoid getting annihilated by Islam. We must accomplish this however it can be don, or we will cease to be.

What are we practicing today with regards to Islam?

We seem to be engaged in a theoretical project which appears to be failing. In it, Muslims have been welcomed into the West by persons convinced that the tidal forces which animate Muslims and Islam will somehow break on our all powerful edifices of openness, prosperity, individual rights. Their theory fantastically puts forward the notion that there is no way for Muslims and Islam to resist the civilizing forces of the West, and that a kinder gentler Islam will INEVITABLY emerge from Islam's encounter with the West.

It isn't working.

This preposterous theory which continues to be put forth by all stata in society --by the likes of the Ralph Peters, the Daniel Pipes, the Reuel Marc Gerecht, most academics and scholars, journalists, artists, and nearly the entire political leaders of the West. In the face of horrid contradictions to this theory, they acknowledge varying degrees of difficulty with the implementation of this scheme, but they all hold firmly to the idea that this approach IS working, or WILL eventually work to everyone's satisfaction.

If this approach is failing, as I believe it is, when will it be recognized by our leaders and intellectuals and talkers?
When will we pull the plug on this nightmare project?
Will we?
Can we repair the damage done?
Is there still time?

What are the answers?

No doubt that the Dhimmi Democrats will also blame Bush for the attacks. As an Irish man living in Ireland, I can not believe that any
rational person would trust the Democrats to protect them against the global jihadist movement. Having read the 911 report, I would say
that all of the fuss over the path to 911 is very telling, Liberal Democrats should shoulder most of the blame. They were impotent, had 10 chances to kill Bin Laden, so, in the eyes of this Irish man they have placed the whole world in jeporday with their PC ideology, which totally
favours Islamists, the more radical the muslim, the more they feel his pain. Madeline albright and her ilk have so much to answer for, from Somalia to the Balkans and right up to 911. I view these people not so much as traitors to America, but as traitors to all that's good within western society.

I’m glad to your comments on our orgy of self-pity. Besides Mr. Ledeen, I’ve expressed similar sentiments.

It was nice to see CNN doing a program from a forward base in Afghanistan last night. The 10th MD is taking on The Taliban, Jihadists and criminal thugs every day in the place where we should be focusing.

well three very stupid muslim brain washed men are now brain dead, room temperature. l am surpised there is even an embassy still standing in Damascus.
why? maybe Bush can send Carter there.

Gravenimage mentioned closure, There was genuine closure in WW2; Germany and Japan were utterly defeated and some of the worst of the bunch were executed. The surrender ceremony on the USS Missouri was brilliant. I can imagine the cheers at movie theaters during the newsreels. The concept of closure means little to me, but some people need it. There can only be closure when those perpetrators are six feet under and the enemy has been utterly defeated. How does one defeat this enemy? There will be no surrender ceremony on the decks of a yet unbuilt and unnamed warship.

We can't name our enemy and we can't define victory in solid terms, but our enemy can define victory and even visualize a surrender ceremony. The future looks bleak.

The future doesnt look bleak at all, we just havent mustered the appropriate national and international courage to define victory. Yet, but it will happen, free men are not easily put upon to surrender that freedom.

Once upon a time America thought of itself as doomed, Britain prepared for occupation and Russia was drafting surrender documents; then we drew a line in the sand and realized that kicking someone elses ass was infinitely better than getting our own kicked.

What the west needs to do is start defining the victory terms, then let the terrorists know what that definition is in the most forceful of terms.

We better get used to the fact that we are dealing with savages and the quicker we deal with them on their terms, the better. Its called the 'Chicago Way'; they bring a knife we bring a gun, they put one of ours in the hospital we put theirs in the morgue, they blow up a train we erase a city.

They are terrorists but they still need training and supplies and succor and shelter, we all know where those things originate, we simply need to let those countries know the score. "You protect terrorists who attack us, we make glass sculptures out of your towns".

Have you noticed just how many political leaders and media figures have read the Koran? They all tell us how the Koran preaches against killing the innocents
and how Bin Laden & Co have perverted true Islam as described in the Koran.

And Robert has been trying to convince us that American politicians are ignorant about Islam and the Koran!!

Yesterday in one of his posts, Robert Spencer said:

Brian M. Jenkins of the "RAND Corp. in Washington, a former US Army captain, and author of 'Unconquerable Nation: Knowing Our Enemy, Strengthening Ourselves,'" points out something we have noted here many times: that "everything is used to try to show an implacable, relentless crusade against Muslims," including any action by Israel or by Americans in Iraq. He doesn't go on to note, as we have here, that these pretexts and grievances always shift, but the jihad imperative remains constant -- and therefore that any belief that redressing any of the grievances du jour will make the jihad disappear is naive, and will meet only with disappointment.
Robert has made this point before, but it should be made more often, particularly in the very clear form Robert makes it in the text I bolded.

A Plague on Both Houses:

It is very doubtful that it was the Mossad behind the attacks on the US embassy in Damascus for the simple reason that Israel is presently in very grave danger (faced with a nuclear-armed Iran and al-Qaeda infestations on Jewish territory and a growing insurgency from Hizbollah) and cannot at this time risk alienating its main ally the United States. If it WAS the Mossad behind this attack and the United States found OUT the US could cut back financial and military support that could further jeopardize the survival of the Jewish state. I doubt even the Mossad wants to put Israel in any more danger than it is now in, which is what it would be doing by enacting such schemes.

I could be wrong--but I doubt it.

Dead Infidel Walking, good points, I like the Chicago Way.

The terms of victory were defined the very day FDR made the "day of infamy" speech. We've had five years, longer if you think back to 1993. Our leaders can't even figure out their name. Our President gets criticized for "Islamofascist" and crawls back to calling them "hijackers of a peaceful religion." If our leaders don't have the guts to call them what they are, where are they going to find the courage to fight them the Chicago Way.

The muslims didn't succeed! Jesus is greater! America hu Akbar!

From SLATE magazine [chuckle]:

Allahu akbar isn't appropriate for all occasions. A pious person wouldn't say it in the bathroom, nor would he use it in an impure place like a garbage dump. He might also frown upon its use in jokes.

Gues I'll start saying it everytime I take a swig of beer.. or when I bite into a nice fat Schweineschnitzel! I could of course suggest a few other choice occasions to utter the words.. [hehehe] Let these devils KNOW that at least I for one will be doing so and will encourage my [few antijihadist] friends to do so as well. Their numbers are GROWING!! Each time they commit another atrocity or violate the sovereignty of an independant nation.. gives me further ammunition!! We NEED TO WIN AMERICAN EUROPEAN AND EAST ASIAN AND AFRICAN HEARTS AND MINDS!!! We need to win the hearts and minds of the future/intended VICTIMS of Pisslam! I've even won reluctant Black Americans over! And I've been pleasantly surprised how many native Africans have NO ILLUSIONS about this plague I call Pisslam! Some of them consider US Johnny-come-latelies when it comes to knwoing this enemy for what it is!

Amerika-hu Akhbar indeed!! Jesus/Jahweh/Buddha-hu Akhbar!!

Hey plague , if the Israelis could sroll into syria and buzz that inbreds palace what makes you think they would bother with covert stuff in that godless market they call a country. You are way off base, its more likley the syrians trying to trump up their reputation , a failed attack by syria repelled by syria to garner brownie points.
After seeing that iraqi making love to that persian midget all over the media today we can only hope the buzzing of the palace becomes the stinging of the palace. Our founding fathers would love it.

"why do we even have anyone at the embassy? The ambassador was withdrawn a year ago over protest of the Syrian involvement of the assasination of Rafiq Hariri in Lebanon."

So we can hand them flight student visas.
Or do they wish to study Nucular Pheseeks now?
What's that program called..? Visa Express if I recall.. ROFLMAO!!

Sorry but our dhimmi govts are so sad i can't do anything but laugh! It's you on this forum and those on UAC who give me courage and knowledge that I am NOT ALONE with my thinking!

'Allah Akhbar' does NOT mean 'God is Great' it means 'Allah is Great'.

INDEED!!!

"Only the Americans can succeed in carrying out an attack just 200 meters from President Assad's residence in the most heavily guarded section of Syria," the official said.

I just found this little gem on a website I looked at. so WHY can't ONLY the Americans carry out an attack 200 meters from.. say, OBL's residence??!! Preferrably right IN its residence.

Now THAT would have been a more APPROPRIATE 5th Anniversary instead of the Oprah-wimpitude moments I had to witness instead.

Does anyone understand that to the ENEMY this crying and weeping orgy makes us look like women and serves to ENCOURAGE them??!!!

They like to show guns at every funeral they have! We need to parade NUKES. NOW!!! Paint the names of their intended targets on them in BIG clearly legible letters. Let them know these weapons are no longer intended for Russia but for targets a bit more south of her.

SORRY.. I should have said making us look like women AS THEY VIEW THEM. This is NOT how I view women personally. pleanty of men in the West who don't do us much honor. And MANY women in the West who DO serve to do just so!

I, for one, wish DEARLY that ole Maggie T were back at the helm in Jolly Ole B.. taking care of bizness... :-) I Guarantee you these muftis would NOT be parading around in London with their seditious and threatening signs!!

Who's the best future President for the US.. Tancredo, Romney, Giuliani? Who among them believes from his heart and doesn't "play to the Conservative base", as they like to call it. I have no faith at all in the Dhimmicrats to come up with a suitable fighter from their ranks.. They treat women just as expendable as the ENEMY does.. see Ted Kennedy.

"Witnesses also said the gunmen tried to throw hand grenades into the embassy compound, shouting "Allah Akbar!" or "God is great!" It was not clear if any of the grenades made it over the walls, which are about 8 feet high."

Pure and utter bullshit. It's a set-up.

If driving to the gate, jumping out of a truck, lobbing grenades and spraying rifle fire is the Muslim idea of a military attack, I would say they have been smoking some good stuff.

What was the plan if the truck bomb had gone off and created a large hole in the wall? Had this happened, there were armed US Marines waiting on the other side.

How many attackers were there , 4? 8?.

No military genius here, it was either a set-up or a bungled suicide mission. Either way Muslims die. They are getting desparate if this was the best they could do.

It is interesting to note camera crews were on the scene rather quickly. Were they there to film the attack? Were films of the attack forwarded to terrorist training camps for training purposes? Were the film crews there to record the attack to show the Americans that Syria is serious about fighting terrorists? Not likely. Just recently Syria intervened in Cyprus where a ship was caught with anti air radar systems from Korea being delivered to Iran . Syria is negotiating for the release of the equipment. The anti-air radar systems are likely headed for the Hizbollah groups. The possibility exists that the systems will be used by Iran. Either way it shows someone is interested in detecting incoming aircraft or drones.
THe US has anti radar technology which will locate and destroy any radar system once it is turned on.

Have you noticed that ships going to Iran contain missiles, rockets, munitions, radar systems, military vehicles, tanks, uniforms, gas masks, chemicals, and all sorts of items of a military nature? It would appear the Iranians are preparing for an encounter somewhere.

This nonsense about generating electricity is a joke. Hitler was known to be building up Germanys military in the 1930s, he built submarines, battleships, tanks, and thousands of fighter aircraft. He built up the military apparatus solely for offensive capabilities not defensive. THe world stood idlely by and millions died. Japan was observed doing the same thing and the world stood idlely by as Japan stormed all over Asia and the Pacific, as a result millions died. Today the world stands idlely by as Muslims build up militarily and move aggressively citing openly that they intend world domination. Soon millions will die.
A first strike by the Western world is needed and the strike needs to be totally committed to complete destruction.
They say history repeats itself. maybe so. Maybe the outcome could be different and millions of lives could be saved by the action we take today.

Syria is playing both sides for all it can get. Sooner or later Syria will be attacked by someone, maybe not the US.

To all posters who interpreted my remarks about the Mossad as deadpan - sorry --- I was being sarcastic. I should have marked it somehow so that you all could see my true intent.

I was trying to be funny, not serious.

Mossad would not do something that stupid and direct. My apologies for waving a loaded piece of sarcasm around without the safety engaged.

George Galloway is a plague on both houses... the house of commons and the house of lords.

An eight foot wall? Those must have been very heavy grenades...

"And then, once the attack took place, the doublecross, with three down, and one -- merely "wounded" for the sake of preventing the kind of speculation here, that would arise in other minds if all four had been dispatched at once -- to go. That fourth, "wounded" man may not survive his wounds..."
-- from my posting above, at 11:27 a.m. yesterday

This just in today from Reuters at about 1:10 p.m. EST:

DAMASCUS (Reuters) - A fourth man who took part in Tuesday's attack on the U.S. embassy in the Syrian capital has died of his wounds, a Syrian official said on Wednesday.

"He died in hospital last night. We could not interrogate him before that," the official told Reuters."

Quod erat demonstrandum.

Oh , you mean we are supposed to throw these things?
