Karzai: Time to close hate schools

Great idea, Karzai! (What made you think of it? Have you by any chance been reading Jihad Watch?) But one question: how will you prevent those who take your advice from being branded as apostates by the authors and supporters of these "hate texts," who can quote Qur'an and Sunnah to support their positions? This is a serious question, for such intimidation stymies Muslim reformers everywhere.

From the Herald Sun, :

AFGHAN President Hamid Karzai has urged the world to put an end to Islamic schools that teach hatred and produce suicide bombers.

Madrassas, or Islamic schools, are "teaching hatred rather than religion, (teaching) that some people we must hate, that some people we must destroy," Mr Karzai said on the eve of summits with the US and Pakistan.

He said it "will take a lot of sacrifice from Afghans, and from the rest of the world . . . to get rid of those places who . . . in the name of religious schools . . . are actually training suicide bombers against us".

Mr Karzai also said neighbouring Pakistan must find the political will to eliminate terrorist breeding grounds if Afghanistan is to know peace. He said other nations had to pressure them to do so.

"We have to convince them that it is not in their interest, that it is going to hurt all of us eventually," he was quoted as saying.

Assalamau-Laikum all,

On the surface this looks to be a very good idea...but further exploring and one one thinks ...hmmm.

Consider that the childrens of Afgans at the moment have very little education of ..reading and/or writing.

A Madrassa helps here with free education. This free education system has helped Afgans childrens for generations. Do we really want to see the Afghani literacy rates go down even further?

OT:

Naseem definitely needs da'wa lessons.

Every post she makes hardens the resolve of the "infidels" and make us more determined NOT to bow down to her Satanic cult - yer she thinks that somehow her efforts will influence someone here to convert. I've never seen such poor attempts at trying to convince someone to share your point of view - they all certainly backfire.

Gee, I sure hope no one reports her to the Pakistani government and tells them about her posts on JW/DW (Her son has already found a way around the firewall. They might be interested in that, also.) We know her deceased husband's name and that they own a furniture business, plus they are Ahmadi - shouldn't be too hard to locate in Lahore.

Rather those childen be illiterate, than to be suicide bombers.

muslims and leftists share many things in common.

(where is Eric Hofer when we need him ?)

Like a basic disdain of or hatred of freedom , of freedom to innovate, to create, to become.

One wonders about failures like Jimmy Catta, Willie Clitman, who look at oppressive regimes like Iran and admire it, who believe that just the fact of an election, however rigged, makes for a good thing. Ya gotta shake your head.

Give us some more money. we will build schools instead of madrasas. Where is all the money that has been given already?
The latest antics of Musharaf seems like he is preparing the ground to ask for more money.
Bush is supposed to meet Karzai and Musharraf soon. This is Karzai's play.

yeah,I seen this movie

What difference would it make to close down the madrassas , if the children learn jihad from home and mosques? Islam is still being drilled into them from everywhere. If we get real teachers in to teach the three R's, all they will have are literate jihadists and homicide bombers.

Naseem...what literacy rate is that?

So Karzai blames the whole thing on Pakistan...it's all their fault...well it probably is or at least to a large degree...There is no axis of evil in Islam, only smelly armpits...Pakistan is one of those...

CGW writes:
"Naseem definitely needs da'wa lessons."

Perhaps Naseem is trying to stir up anti-jihad
resistance since she knows as an Ahmadi that
she's an infidel? A bit of reverse psychology.

Perhaps Naseem is a total fake?

Perhaps too much time is wasted on this thing?

Wow! 2 stories where some sort of reform is being called for in a Muslim place. Maybe there is some hope after all.

Naseem,
I agree, it's better if the brainwashed psychopathic automotons of Allah who murder undiscriminatingly for eternal sexual gratification in heaven...

can read and write.

I believe Karzai is trying to reform and modernize his country. Madrassas are not the answer to civilization. At least they're beginning to think along the right lines.

While they're shutting down the jihadist factories in Pakistan and Afghanistan, which is only wishful thinking anyway, maybe the dhimmi U.S. government could shut down the Wahabbi hate schools in the D.C. area and throughout the U.S. Perhaps one of the superfluous bureaucrats in the behemoth DHS could find the time to arrest, defrock, or deport the Wahabbi clerics who are training and recruiting holy warriors in U.S. prisons, or would that be a violation of the first amendment?

A startling fact appears to have been lost on the Middle Eastern democracy proponents in Washington. Most of today's muslim terrorists live in democratic nations. Many were born and raised in Western countries, others immigrated to or were educated in them. While they attempt to change the culture in the M.E., an impossible challenge, and impose democracy where it is neither wanted nor appreciated, they are ignoring its slow but steady collapse in Western countries with large muslim populations. Are these people stupid, blind, or what?

freewoman,
you are right. and literate jihadis are more dangerous.
This resurgence in jihad activity is partly due to increased literacy in the "muslim world"...more co-ordination etc..
