I want to emphasize at the outset, of course, that I am absolutely certain that this incident had nothing whatsoever to do with terrorism. I mean, that's obvious: Mohammed Ghanem wasn't wearing an Osama bin Laden t-shirt. Nor was he carrying an Al-Qaeda membership card. Therefore this incident is simply an isolated case involving an innocent accident -- why, just yesterday I was buttering my toast and when I was finished with the knife I accidently artfully concealed it inside my carved-out copy of Richard Grenier's The Marrakesh One-Two. You know how these things can happen -- and they're purely innocent in every case, of course, particularly in cases involving Muslims with one-way tickets to Yemen. Why, to suggest otherwise would be profiling.
Oh, and of course Ghanem has clearly been suffering from mental problems, arising from the stress of his arranged marriage and his failed conversion to Christianity. His friends all say he's a magnificently gentle soul who would never hurt a fly, although they add as well that he is utterly bonkers. So again, this has nothing, nothing whatsoever to do with terrorism. Nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing. Did Mohammed Ghanem have any attachment to the jihad ideology? Interesting that the attorney here, Nabih Ayad of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, is the go to counsel for these types of incidents. They emerge, sometimes hours later, steering their carts toward a flock of relatives, a stream of cabs, a new life.
This was the path for Nur Fatima, a Pakistani woman who moved to Brooklyn six months ago and promptly shed her hijab. Through the same doors walked Nora Elhainy, a Moroccan who sells electronics in Queens, and Ahmed Youssef, an Egyptian who settled in Jersey City, where he gives the call to prayer at a palatial mosque.
“I got freedom in this country,” said Ms. Fatima, 25. “Freedom of everything. Freedom of thought.”
The events of Sept. 11 transformed life for Muslims in the United States, and the flow of immigrants from countries like Egypt, Pakistan and Morocco thinned sharply.
But five years later, as the United States wrestles with questions of terrorism, civil liberties and immigration control, Muslims appear to be moving here again in surprising numbers, according to statistics collected by the Department of Homeland Security and the Census Bureau.
Immigrants from predominantly Muslim countries in the Middle East, North Africa and Asia are planting new roots in states from Virginia to Texas to California.
In 2005, more people from Muslim countries became legal permanent United States residents — nearly 96,000 — than in any year in the previous two decades.

Dhimmitude on the new Fall Schedule on FOX TV
The new Fall season on American television premiered a new show, "Standoff", on 9 p.m. Tuesday nights, a plum prime-time spot following the popular show "House" (which received Emmies last year).
"Standoff" is a show about a team of hostage negotiators in an American city. On the premier episode last week, the team had to deal with two incidents: one was an American father who went postal and kidnapped his two sons from his ex-wife, then held them hostage in a car in the middle of an intersection. The team successfully defused that incident.
The second incident involved a "blonde and blue-eyed" young American terrorist who is seen in his apartment with photos of bin Laden, before he puts on his kaffiyeh (identified as "one of those Islamic beanies" by one of the policemen), straps on bombs over his chest, and walks into a coffeehouse.
What betrayed the dhimmitude of the creators and writers of the episode was one particular scene after he has taken the patrons in the coffeehouse hostage and he is waiting for a phone call from the hostage negotiators outside. The patrons are all lying on the floor on their face as he ordered them at gunpoint to do. The camera then showed two of the patrons, whose physiognomy was obviously Middle Eastern. One of them said something in Arabic to the blonde blue-eyed American terrorist then added, "What you are doing is wrong, it is against Islam!"
The blonde blue-eyed American terrorist looks at the two Middle Eastern Muslims on the floor with scorn and throws hot coffee at their faces.
Of course, it is not inconceivable that there could be a blonde blue-eyed American terrorist inspired by bin Laden (in fact, we have seen a few, though not necessarily blonde per se); nor is it inconceivable that among the patrons could be a couple of Middle Eastern Muslims who are brave and conscientious enough to try to condemn the terrorist. But it is obviously stretching plausibility as documented by the news for the last few years. I can just see the meeting of creators, writers, producers and the director of the show at the FOX corporation, sitting around a table:
"How can we add something to the story line to take some of the heat off the fact that we're presenting a terrorist who is actually a Muslim?"
"Well, he's blonde, blue-eyed, and American. That helps."
"No, Flannigan, I don't think that's enough -- we'll need something else to show that most Muslims are decent people who are against terrorism."
"I've got an idea! Let's have a couple of Middle Eastern guys in the coffeehouse who are victims of the terrorist, and then they tell the terrorist that what he's doing is wrong and against Islam!?"
"Perfect idea! You're getting a raise, Poindexter!"
P.S.: During the season when the most successful FOX show in the last few years, 24, was revolving around a group of Muslim terrorists, one scene had Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) holed up in store in an L.A. slum being besieged by Muslim terrorists -- and guess who were holed up as victims along with him? Two young Middle Eastern Muslims, whose marionette strings pulled by the FOX writers and producers moved them to say how much they loved America, peace and freedom and how this would motivate them to help Jack fight those evil bastards.
There is only one way to deal with Islamic threat is to ship all Muslims back to their countries of origins. The Muslims who wish to stay, should be given a chance to stay in the West, only if they denounce Islamic terrorism in a loudest possible manner. The Western converts to Islam should be locked up in Jails till their mental state normalizes. Better still, pack their bags and send them to Saudi-Arabia.
