Musharraf: 'America paid us to hand over al-Qaeda suspects'

What? You mean they didn't do it readily, out of their own righteous indignation that these terrorists were hijacking their peaceful religion? Musharraf continues courting the jihadists who would remove him from power: "'America paid us to hand over al-Qaeda suspects,'" from the TimesOnline, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:

PRESIDENT Musharraf of Pakistan says that the CIA has secretly paid his government millions of dollars for handing over hundreds of al-Qaeda suspects to America.

The US government has strict rules banning such reward payments to foreign powers involved in the war on terror. General Musharraf does not say how much the CIA gave in return for the 369 al-Qaeda figures that he ordered should be passed to the US.

The US Department of Justice said: “We didn’t know about this. It should not happen. These bounty payments are for private individuals who help to trace terrorists on the FBI’s most wanted list, not foreign governments.”

The revelation comes from General Musharraf’s memoir, In the Line of Fire, which begins serialisation in The Times today and will further embarrass the White House at a time when relations between the US and Pakistan are already strained.

General Musharraf claimed last week that the Bush Administration threatened to bomb Pakistan “back to the Stone Age” if did not co-operate with the US after the 9/11 attacks.

The latest revelation will embarrass the White House days before General Musharraf is due to meet President Bush and President Karzai of Afghanistan to discuss how to combat a resurgent Taleban.

The disclosures are also causing consternation in Pakistan. Members of General Musharraf’s Cabinet and senior diplomats apparently did not know he was writing a book and are worried that relations with its allies and Western intelligence agencies will be damaged by the revelations.

The CIA refused to divulge the size of its bounty payments, saying: “Our relationships with international leaders is not something we are prepared to talk about.” One senior CIA figure added: “Nor do we expect these leaders to do so.”

Among the suspects surrendered to the US was Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged architect of the 9/11 operation and many other terror plots in the UK, including a planned attack on Heathrow airport, the plot never came to fruition.

Goes to show that the musharaf was never an ally but an opportunistic parasite looking to make a buck. I am glad Bush threatend to bomb him. but I am not so happy he pays pakistan.

Interesting, there is more to this than just his book, the timing of these comments all add up to making people see the USA as the aggressor.

Look at the speaches in the UN.

There will be another strike on the USA which is going to happan very soon by my reading of events and things that have been said then the USA will get very little sympathy and perhaps load of "they had it coming" especially from the fickle and weak Europeans and all those non-alogned and of course Russia and China.

And what about public opinion in the USA, perhaps if we had kept our head down blah blah blah, I just hope the USA has its own Samsom option and the spirit of Pearl Harbour is not lost...

Just why IS Mushie backing away so publicly from the US?

As long as we continue to Pussy-Foot around "Collateral Damage", more leaders will see us as weak, and back peddle all the way to Venuezualer....

We need to start pounding some serious ass, including women and children.

It is stunning that the leader of a nuclear nation would play these games for a million-dollar book advance. A million dollars sounds like a lot of money, but in the worldwide arena, its peanuts. I don’t think you can keep a Gulfstream in the air for a year on it. Compare the million dollar figure with the 1.5 billion (b) dollar pledge the US has given Pakistan in foreign assistance.

Musharraf is selling a kiss-and-tell book based on confidential dealings with the US government. He’s trying to make you look like a fool Mr. President. Please get angry.

Musharraf and other generals and zamindars remain secure in the belief that their own children, the jeunesse doree of Pakistan, can find their futures in the very Infidel West that the Pakistani masses, those of a thousand groups and political parties, are attempting to undo. They should be disabused of this assumption.

It is not collective punishment to help obtain needed cooperation by making clear to those generals and zamindars that access to American education, and medical care, and the obtaining of permission to remain in the West, may depend, should depend, on other sorts of cooperation. There are all kinds of ways to squeeze a general. Many Muslims tell you that I love Islam, and hate America and by the way, how can I get a green card for my sons and daughters?

The more Musharraf talks, the harder it is to believe he thinks we are this stupid. He claims never to have known anything that happened in Pakistan since he was born until after it was published in the newspapers.

MSM in America can't be bothered to learn anything they aren't told to learn. So they accept whatever the Bush government says about Pakistan. Then its on the next assignment. The idea that Pakistan knew about 9-11 or anything else before it happened would require them to do searches on the internet, read and even go to a bookstore, or (gasp) the library. Also they might have to look up people's telephone numbers on the internet and call them up and ask them questions. They might have to read and even think it over before calling people so they knew what to ask. They might have to write their ideas down on paper to sort them out. That could take up a whole week. Even longer.

The related URL has a list of links to Pakistan and India blogs and some news accounts, and some official sources on the question of whether Pakistan knew about 9-11 beforehand.

Just more truth about the old shakedown game. Yeah we got em, what ya willing to pay?

Fox-in-sheep's-cloathing alert:

So, these are Dubya's 'friends' and 'ally in war on terror'? Everyone, who has any idea about Islam and terror know that the Umma is the enemy. How on earth can one take Umma-member as an 'ally'? That too, bought? ANy fool knows that Umma will take the cash and turn against the secular world. In the mean time, Terorrists enjoy the hospitality of another Islamic nation. Add to that Saudi Arabia and we have the father (Saudi Arabia) and the mother (Pakistan) masquarading as 'allies' against their own, home-hrown terror. If these are not foxes guarding the hen-house, who are?

Dubya is a part of the problem, not the solution.

The general isn't a national leader, he's a disgrace to everyone. To Pakistan as well as the US he's nothing but money grubbing flunky. To the crazy ones he's a traitor. I think he's an idiot for making these revelations because now he hasn't a friend in this world. Nobody will lament this guy's death now.

I was really disappointed when I heard this last night. You MUST give it a listen folks.

This is bad news folks. Here is our President, in his own words, saying that allah and Jehovah are the same God.

It takes a minute to get past all the address details and details about this radio program website, but once the radio program begins, it goes straight into the interview. So be patient, it’s a real eye-opener.

I do not trust him as long as a heart beat. He, like 99.77777% of Pakistanies, is a compulsive lier. I urge any self respecting person not to buy his book. If you buy his book, you are contributing to the proceedings to the bullets that Paki army would buy to shoot your young men. Ignore his book totally. He is an evil and selfish person.

What did you expect from a spoilt brat raised by Mexican Nannies and propped by dad's Wahabbi 'friends'? Frankly, I am neither surprised not disappointed at Dubya's betrayal. Starting with 9/11 when he led Bin-Ladens (Dubya had business deals with Salem Bn-Laden) to safety to 'Guest Worker Program' opening borders to Mexican criminals, Dubya has been pretty consistent. Heck, Bandar had more access to Dubya than CIA chief. What does that tell you about president/commander-in-chief's patriotism (and no, am not a democrat trying to score political points)?

Again, Dubya is a part of the problem, not the solution.

So, how much was paid? to whom? where did the payment come from? who proposed? who authorized it? is the payment accounted for? where did the payment go after paying? did it go to the jihadists? madrassas? musharraf's pocket? any kickback to CIA officers? how many? who? have they declared the payment?

With the money received Pakistanis will build more islamic schools and mosques in order to produce more muslim militants.

So Pakistan will have more "alQaida suspects" for sale in the future.

What a poisonous snake pit Pakistan is!

The MOST important point. Also note that mush is on a long trip. I think that the nukes of pakistan are being transferred to the jihadis. And mush can always say, 'hey it happened when I was out'.

He wants more money Arjun

Unfortunately Musharraf is much better at cajoling the US than india is, even though his nation is hostile against America.

Apparently, Musharraf decided to do his book jihad. The above claim is one; his other claim is that India got what it knows about nukes by stealing it from Pakistan.

Sort of like the Islamic claims about the Arabs inventing 'Arabic' numerals.

Infidel Pride,
This is so rich it could only have come from pakistan. :)
