Palestinians torch Qalqilya YMCA

An update on this story from YNet News:

Palestinian gunmen Saturday attacked and set fire to the Young Men's Christian Association headquarters in Qalqiliya, a large West Bank city controlled by Hamas.
Local government sources identified the attackers as members of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad terror groups, saying the identities of the gunmen are "well known" to Qalqiliya's security forces, which are controlled by the Hamas government.
Saturday's arson follows a series of warnings by the Muslim leadership of Qalqilya accusing the city's YMCA of missionary activity and demanding the Christian organization close its offices and leave town or face likely Muslim violence.
According to local reports, the gunmen Saturday afternoon destroyed the locks on the YMCA's entrance gates, crushed the gates, then entered the building and set it ablaze. Local fire brigades reportedly rushed to the scene and stopped the fire before it spread to neighboring buildings. The building sustained serious damage, YMCA officials said.
Qalqiliya police say they opened an investigation into the incident and would hunt down and arrest the attackers.
One political source in the city told WND, "The identity of the attackers is well known to Hamas. We don't expect the Hamas-controlled police, the Hamas city council or the Hamas Interior Ministry to do anything about this attack."
The source called the arson a "warning to YMCAs and Christian groups in the Palestinian areas that they are not safe."
In April major Muslim organizations in Qalqiliya in conjunction with local mosques, the city's Mufti and municipal leaders, sent a letter to the interior minister of the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority accusing the YMCA of missionary activities and demanding the Palestinian government immediately shut down the Christian offices.
The YMCA has operated in Qalqiliya since 2000.
[...]
"There was a coordination among the mosques to speak about the YMCA. One major imam, for example, warned if the YMCA doesn't close down it will lead to 'acts that no one would like to see,'" said one political source in April.
Joseph Medi, the YMCA manager in Qalqiliya, said his operation has never been involved with missionary activity.
"It's not what we're about. There is no missionary activity here whatsoever. The YMCA is in the city to serve the population with financial help, sporting activities and general educational programs," said Medi.
Medi pointed out many employees at his branch of the YMCA are Muslim. He said the YMCA was instrumental in establishing a number of community programs, including contributing to the financing of the Al Ahli Club, a mostly Muslim local soccer organization that has competed in national games.
Medi said Qalqiliya's YMCA received a final notification from local leaders warning the association to close its offices before "drastic measures" were taken. He said no specific measures were specified.

Some analysts called the demands for the YMCA to close one of many indications Hamas may be seeking to impose Islamic rule on the Palestinian population.

Possibly.

Forgive me in advance(I'm Jewish), but I didn't associate the YMCA to Christianity! I thought it was a place to work out, swim, or a great(funny)song from the 70's vis-a-vis The Village People. Maybe some Islamist heard this song: "

Young man, there's no need to feel down . . . . you can hang out with all the boys."

I'm not sure the Village People would be welcomed in Hamastan anyway.

The International YMCA Organization has been publicly anti-Israel for years.

No pity from me.

Hey, Bishop Riah Abu El-Assal...

This is another one for you.

For reference, from the summer of 2001:

YMCA Launches Virulent Anti-Israel Campaign.

to close one of many indications Hamas may be seeking to impose Islamic rule on the Palestinian population.........................

I thought Pali's were already under islamic rule...they act like islamics, live like islamics....speak like islamics......

Today, it's the YMCA. Tomorrow, it will be all the Christian churches.

This morning I listened to CBC Radio One news which included a story filed from the Palistinian Territories by Mike Hornbrook about how hard done by the Palestinians feel because nefarious Israel has managed to work a guilt-by-association number between the Palestinian "resistance" and Al Qaeda.

In typical Al-CBC style, Hornbrook mentioned nary a word about how the Palestinians celebrated 9-11 by dancing in the streets and handing out candies, and, more recently, the election of a government that is committed to the destruction of a member nation of the UN, the constant rocket bombardments from Gaza, the kidnapping of soldier Gilad Shallit from well within the 1948 borders or any other inconvenient truths about the Palestinians.

Nauseating!

Qalqilya sits right on the armistice lines of 1949, the armistice lines which Israel offered at one time to make into permanent border lines. This offer was not accepted, but rejected by all the Arab states, because they were not about to recognize the Infidel state of Israel in any armistice lines, but hoped to whittle away at it through the attacks of those who, without the weaponry of today, made raids, usually killing Jewish farmers and destroy their crops. The raids from Jordan were put paid to by the special Unit 101 formed by Ariel Sharon, and that border became quiet. With Egypt, things were much more difficult, and more than 19,000 separate attacks, many of them failing in their attempts, were made by "Egyptian" fedayin (that is, by the Arabs in Egyptian-ruled Gaza -- whom the Arabs had not yet thought to call "Palestinians" for the invention of a "Palestinian people" and then the promotion of its "legitimate rights" as that people only came about after the defeat in the Six-Day War sent Arab propagandists scurrying to the old drawing board -- the one they keep in the Ministries of War.

Qalqilya is right on that armistice line which was never a border, because the Arabs never accepted it as a border. And of course, the first thing that first-year law students learn in Contracts class is this: when an offer is made, and there is no acceptance (and the Arabs had many decades to accept) that offer, the offer lapses. Israel, just like the Offeror in the Contracts cases, is under no obligation to revive that offer, to keep it forever open. Does A, in the contracts case, make an offer that B rejects -- rejects not only with a loud and repeated No, No, No, but with terrorist attacks and warfare -- economic, propagandistic, diplomatic, military -- of every kind -- have to keep that original Offer open, so that Acceptance may be given (and an Acceptance that, those who understand the Law of War and Peace in Islam, cannot be sincere, cannot lead to an end of Muslim desire, and attempts to wipe out, even if employing in the main other instruments than terrorism, and on a more extended timetable) whenever the Arabs feel like it? It doesn't work in Contract Law, and what is a treaty if not a Contract?

And where is Qalqilya? It is exactly eight miles from Qalqilya to the Mediterranean. That is how Israel could be cut in two -- eight miles at the waist, the waist of those 1949 Armistice Lines to which some in the Western world think Israel should return, because, you see, then there will be "peace" and then the Arabs and other Muslims will calm down, will realize there is no further point in attempting to destroy Israel.

As you think about that, wherever you are sitting, think of some place eight miles away. How far was your commutte today? How far away do you routinely travel, even in a city, that might take you eight miles from your house? That is how far Qalqilya is from the beach and the sea, the same white-sea-in-the-middle (as the Arabs call the Mediterranean) into which they for decades promised openly they would push the Jews, and the goal remains the same, even if presented in terms more acceptable to the West, or at least to the ears of those whose minds are wilfully empty of any kknowledge of Islam, and who choose to believe that the tenets of Islam have nothing to do with implacalbe Muslim opposition to the wellbeing -- and existence -- of Israel.

Qalqilya.

I often refer to "Qalqilya" as "I'll-Kill-Ya" - not for naught.

Gee..golly..gosh...why pick on the poor YMCA when they have been doing everything possible to make the local Muslims happy, healthy and wealthy, according to the director, Joseph Medhi? Why not just change the name to YMMA (Young Men's Muslims Assoc.)...and, oh yes, make sure that you don't allow in local, dirty Christians in to pollute the pool or the gym. Go back to Hamas, Mr. Medhi, and ask if that would please your Muslim masters. In the meantime, I noticed deep in the article that an "anonymous complaint" about the treatment of Palestinian Christians came from the office of Latin Patriarch Michael Sabbah. Be careful, Patriarch Sabbah...you are getting off message...Jews are bad and evil...the Palestinian Muslims are long suffering saints, incapable of doing wrong, just like your brothers in Liberation Theology have always said.

Why any Christian in these days of modern communications, modern transportation and modern marketplaces of ideas would go to a place like the Gaza strip to try and 'make good' is beyond me. Of course they might be eternal optimists and philanthropists, keeping hope for our future and doing good in the present.

I would suggest to anyone along those lines to go to a place where you may do the same admirable work, will be appreciated for it and where those good works would take root.

Some seed cast will land on rocks, some will be choked off by weeds, some will never grow.

Good Christians can find many places in the world to make a difference. Like Darfur, for example. Help those who really need it and who can reciprocate first... we have so many of these people and places. Don't scatter the seed in sterile soil and on rocks.

I'm sure some morons in the U.S. will send them money to rebuild. It would be a great opportunity for ex president, Jimmy Carter to display his construction prowess. Meantime their basketball team will have to play all its games "away".

"One Christian leader, an aide to Jerusalem's Latin Patriarch Michel Sabah who asked his name be withheld out of fear of Muslim retaliation, called the threats against Qalqiliya's YMCA part of a general trend of Christian persecution in Palestinian areas." from the YNet article referenced above.

WOW!!!! Does this mean that Siedna Michel has finally started to identify with his Christian Palestinian flock instead of the Muslim power brokers?

Even a late conversion of the Latin "Patriarch" to Christianity is welcome. Let's just see if he's willing to use his office on behalf of the local Christians and not as an instrument of the PA. Or maybe he knows he is on the way out and will soon be reflaced by a bishop who is willing to be a real pastor to his persecuted people and not just a politician in clerical robes.

The YMCA was warned, the Muslims were clear, 'we'll burn you down' and they did. No surprise there. Look at Gaza, all the land and infrastructure the Jews left - burned and destroyed. But the dhimmis keep building and giving to the Muslims. Keep the jizya coming suckers! I see there is to be a unity govt and the jizya that was cut off will start flowing again. Will we ever learn? Apparently not.

"It's not what we're about. There is no missionary activity here whatsoever. The YMCA is in the city to serve the population with financial help, sporting activities and general educational programs," said Medi.

Our local YMCA teaches boxing. I've been going to cardio boxing for years now. I've never heard any mention of Jesus.

Well, I should probably go and assassinate anyone associated with the YMCA so that no Muslims are offended by their activities. Think of it as my contribution to improving multiculturalism, community relations and religious harmony.

Hugh:

How far is eight miles? I'm in my mid-fifties and recovering from a fracture to the Lisfrank joint in my left foot, and walk four miles every morning in about an hour and ten minutes to get to work. A reasonably fit jogger could probably jog the full eight in about the same amount of time.

I wonder whether Muslims think that their mosques, islamic schools and religious centers are fireproof.

There is the old adage that: "Whoever lives in a glasshouse should not throw stones at others.."

I'm eagerly waiting for the tide to turn.

I am generally impressed with the discussion at this Web site, and the related site jihadwatch.com. So, it was with some surprise that the history of the YMCA in Europe is not known.

According to Lucy S. Dowaidowicz, "The War Against the Jews, 1933-1945," (Bantam, 1986), p. 34:

"Political antisemitism began in Berlin with Adolf Stöcker, though Stöcker did not actually begin with overt, explicit antisemitism. In 1878, in Berlin, where he was court preacher, he founded the Christian Social Workers' Party. The name itself suggested the party's implicit antisemitic bias."*

FOOTNOTE (Ibid.):

*"The word "Christian" in a European organization's name indicated its antisemitic character. The classic illustration is Admiral Horthy's joyous embrace of the secretary of the American YMCA as the head of 'such an important antisemitic organization.'"

Hmmm, what comes around, go around. Just ask Rome..

"Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice; moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue"

Pravoslavni,
Good news for you. Olmert is in more trouble. It has been discovered that he sold two additional houses [for a total of 3] to contributors at a price much above the market price in order to avoid limits on contributions and in fact to disguise contributions. It seems like he may get the boot. But it can't come too soon.

My post this morning isn't a complete thought on this matter.

It's implicit, but, perhaps not completely manifest, that by merely designating a European political party as Christian that it can be inferred, as Dowadowitz writes, that "The name itself suggested the party's implicit antisemitic bias."

But, it must be emphasized that it was not an accident that the Jewish People were, prior to the Reformation, Europe's only religious minority. (And, after the Reformation, Europe's only non-Christian minority.) That was because Jews were the only religious minority permitted to exist by the "catholic" (="universal") church. All other minorities were absorbed; or failing that, put to death. (How does this compare to modern Islam?)

The years 1096-99, the "first crusade," saw the Jewish Communities in France, (the time of the Great Biblical Scholar RASHI), and the Jewish Communities in the Rhineland, attacked by "christian" mobs; culminating in 1099 where the Jerusalem Jews were crammed into Jerusalem Synagogues that were then set ablaze (not surprisingly, historians have drawn a straight line from "the first crusade" to the Holocaust). Prior to the "first crusade," the Jewish Communities in Europe lived according to royal charters, similar to corporate letters patent, that, inter alia, allowed them to carry arms.

The fall-out from the "first crusade" made the status of the "European" Jews similar to what Islam now dsignates "dhimmi." The "catholic" church had, and has(!), a similar theological point of view in respect of the Jews; notwitstanding Vatican II. According to this theology, the Jews were in Exile from the Land of Israel in consequence of being cursed according to Matthew, and their continued existence was to "bear witness" to the purported "truth" of "christianity." The Vatican also calls itself "verus"-Israel, or the "true"-Israel. This replacement theology--rejected by Christian Zionists--takes on an even more crude form in Islam.

To sum up this long post, if we are to find a means of defeating evil and vile Islam, then we need look no further than how evil and vile "christianity" miraculously became Christian Zionism.

Lance,

While many criminals and bigots took the unheavals of the Crusades as an opportunity to rob and persecute Jews, they did so without the sanction of the Church. The atrocities were opposed by the local bishops and widely condemned at the time as a violation of the Crusades' aim, which was not directed against the Jews but against the Saracens (Muslims). Those who perpetrated the atrocities in Germany were excommunicated by Pope Urban II.

Tragically, at the time, many Jews in the Middle East were as dhimmi as supposed Christians like Hanan Ashrawi are today. Jews fought for the Muslims in defending Haifa against the Crusaders which led to increased anti-semitism among the Christian soldiers. These soldiers on taking Jerusalem, without orders, massacred many Jews and Muslims, failing to distinguish between them. This was not only a crime but a tragic strategic mistake (similar to Israel's failure in 1948 to distinguish between Palestinian Muslims and Christians).

Nevertheless, these crimes were in direct disobedience to the Pope's command that there be no forced conversions nor persecution against any noncombatants. The end result of these strategic mistakes was the ultimate victory of the Muslims. Christians and Jews must learn from this and never be divided again. Either we stand together or we will all perish alike.
