MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Somali Islamist militia shot in the air on Sunday to disperse hundreds of youths watching an English Premiership soccer match, with two people injured in the melee, witnesses said.
Somalis have welcomed the Islamists' pacification of their capital since they took it over in June, but they are increasingly unhappy at signs of religious extremism such as closing down public viewing of films and sport.
Nearly 400 youths packed into the Duale cinema during the afternoon for the big game between Chelsea and Liverpool.
But they scattered when 30 militiamen rolled up on a battlewagon and ordered them out, witnesses said.
When some of the youths started throwing stones and burning tyres in protest, the militiamen opened fire.
"Two youths were injured, one was shot in the thigh while the other sustained hand injuries," local resident Abdullahi Mohamed told Reuters on the scene.

The movement's leaders want Somalia to be ruled by sharia law, but insist they have no intention of instituting a strict Taliban-style system. They say their main aim is to re-impose law and order after 15 years of anarchy and chaos since warlords ousted a dictator in 1991.
I am coming to the conclusion that the Islamic belief-system is a mental illness. It's like an addiction to alcohol or some other substance abuse in that the first step to recovery is the recognition of the problem. Muslims are going to have to face the fact that the Islamic-belief-system is the only religion on earth with a well developed theology that mandates violence against people who do not believe in their belief system. That's a fact.
Maybe Islam needs to look at the 12 step program. The whole thing is like dealing with an alcoholic who denies he has a drinking problem. Islam has a violence problem.
Muslims have to deal with the violence problem and stop blaming others for recognizing the problem. For non-Muslims, it's like dealing with an alcoholic to hear the denials of the problem and directed at others for bringing up the problem.

Frank, to my mind they do not see what they do as violent, so it is not a problem for them. They call it punishment and the victim bears the responsibility for it, having brought it on himself. It is also just the removing of obstacles to spread islam.
That's why so many of them can say, to their minds perfectly truthfully, that islam is not violent.
Nothing to do with violence at all.
And how can this punishment/opening of the world to islam be a problem when it's mandated by allah?

I see your point. Maybe non-Muslims also need a 12 step program. Alcoholics deny they have a drinking problem and family members often enable the problem by pretending that it doesn't exist.
Islam has a violence problem. The denial of that is either to enable the problem or be like an alcoholic saying people who recognize his problem are are Alcohophobic.
So the somalis are banning music and alcohol - will they then be banning drugs as they are all addicted to the local version of cocaine known as kat or some such shit - probably they will find a way to justify it

"Extremism" implies that this is a norm not usually associated with Islam. Ha! I'm certain that many of those "welcoming pacification" aren't Muslim; just wait until they start shooting people for refusing to convert. It's inevitable, once the Islamists feel secure in their position.
