I don't know if anyone else listened to Neal Boortz today, but he had some very interesting comments about his two hour, impromptu meeting with President Bush, accompanied by Michael Medved. I didn't catch it all, but I did hear some interesting tidbits. Boortz agreed not to quote the president on anything, so he had to be very careful when he answered callers' questions. I'm paraphrasing Boortz's comments as best I can remember them:
Boortz said that President Bush was "devoutly religious." I had my doubts about that, but maybe I was wrong. According to Boortz, Bush believes that all devout believers, regardless of their religion, yearn for "liberty."
Bush does not believe that we are at war with islam and thinks that islam is not only a bonafide religion, but a "great" religion in the same league as Christianity and Judaism.
Bush remains clueless about islam.
Regarding illegal immigration, amnesty, and protecting our borders, Boortz and Medved both told Bush that the illegal immigration issue was the number one concern of their listeners and callers. Boortz said Bush appeared to be very surprised to hear this, completely shocked. Apparently Bush is oblivious to the concerns of the common people. Do they keep him locked in a closet?! Boortz emphasized Bush's "shock and surprise" to learn that a majority of Americans want our borders sealed and protected, no amnesty for illegals already here, no guest worker program.
Regarding Iran, Boortz emphasized that he wasn't quoting Bush but told one caller who raised the issue that Iran will not be permitted to develop nuclear weapons.
The meeting was supposed to last only 30 minutes, but lasted over two hours. Boortz broached the subject of Bush's intellect and the widespread rumor that he is a mental midget. According to Boortz, Mr. Bush is immensely qualified for the challenges of his job and is an extremely intelligent, perceptive man, as well as friendly, likeable, and committed. Boortz himself appeared somewhat shocked at these revelations. Boortz was obviously awed after his lengthy session with President Bush and indicated that it left him with an entirely different perspective on the president, his aptitude, capabilities, goals, religious convictions, and what makes him tick. Boortz was unabashedly impressed.
Maybe Boortz was just overwhelmed and flattered that the president took over two hours of his time to chat with him and Mr. Medved, but Boortz has been an outspoken critic of many of President Bush's policies. So maybe there is more to Bush than meets the eye, maybe not. I am very disappointed to learn of his misconceptions about islam, or to have them more or less confirmed.
