Operators of truck driving schools in Kansas City and southern Missouri conspired to help more than 70 Somali and Bosnian nationals illegally obtain commercial licenses, federal prosecutors alleged Thursday.Many of those students went on to obtain certification to haul hazardous materials on the nation’s highways, authorities said in announcing the 62-count grand jury indictment. Fifteen defendants face charges of mail fraud, making a false writing and illegally causing identification documents to be produced....
Then comes the by-now pro-forma assurance that, although this involves Muslims plotting to do something with potentially catastrophic results, this has nothing to do with terrorism. The possibility -- and it is just that and only that, a possibility -- that this was part of a freelance jihad, a la Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, is not even on their radar screen -- although this time a U. S. attorney does make a partial acknowledgment:
Although the Heart of America Joint Terrorism Task Force handled the investigation, Bradley Schlozman, the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Missouri, emphasized that the indictment did not allege that any of the defendants were involved in terrorism.“That having been said, I would think it obvious that commercial driver’s licenses are an extraordinarily powerful tool, and a potential weapon, in the hands of someone seeking to do large-scale harm,” Schlozman said at a news conference Thursday.
Schlozman said the key defendants in the case showed a “flagrant and reckless disregard for our national security.”
Although the indictment referred to dozens of test applicants by name, investigators think between 200 and 300 students got their licenses through the conspiracy.
Of those, 150 to 200 later obtained certification to haul hazardous materials.
“I’m not saying we stopped a terrorist act from occurring,” Debby Stafford, an FBI official, said at the news conference. “But this is a clear example of our preventive efforts and of what we do to make our territory safer.”...
The defendants included Ernest A. “Mustafa” White, 49, of Kansas City, who owned the Muslim Brothers and Sisters trucking company in Kansas City, Kan., and Howard E. Schneider, 39, of Overland Park, owner of H.E. Schneider Trucking Co. and co-operator of Muslim Brothers, officials said....
Also charged were Dean P. Proffitt, 71, superintendent of the South Central Career Center Truck Driver Training School in West Plains, Mo., and Orbin Dale May, 63, a truck-driving tester from West Plains....
After a search warrant was served in February, West Plains School District Superintendent Karla Eslinger said that Proffitt had contacted troopers in 2003 to report that a large number of people taking the test had names that sounded Middle Eastern in origin....
Information obtained by The Associated Press under Missouri’s open records law indicated that more than 300 of about 520 people who took the test at the school between May 2004 and December 2005 but did not train there had names that might be Middle Eastern in origin.
FBI agent Mark Wagoner said White converted to Islam while in prison.
“Many of the people he came in contact with were Somali nationals,” he said.
Schlozman said that the awarding of licenses to individuals “from an area as dangerous as Somalia was a matter of particular concern to the community.”
Prosecutors said the others who were indicted generally helped in the conspiracy by driving students to West Plains for testing or helping to arrange the fake tests.
Those other defendants are:
Hiram C. Oliver, 33, Raytown; Osman Abdullahi, 30, a Somali citizen living in San Diego; Elias Mohamed, 25, Ahmed Muhidin Sharif, 27, Abdulfatah Osman Farah, 24, Abdirizak Abdi Mohamed, age unknown, and Yusuf Kalmole, 34, all citizens of Somalia living in Kansas City; Abdiwahab Mohamud Mohamed, 37, a Somali citizen living in Minneapolis; Adil Majlovic, 19, and Mersud Kajtazovic, 31, both citizens of Bosnia living in Kansas City; and Samir Hasanovic, 22, of Arnold, Mo.

Why? How?
What keeps such people from being deported? What has kept them from being deported since 9.11.2001? What keeps them from being deported now?
Didn't this story come out right after 9/11? There were the truckers trying to get licenses to carry hazardous materials, and the pilots trying to get ahold of a crop-spraying plane.
As for the 9/11 attacks themselves, that was tried multiple times as well. There was the 1993 bombing of the WTC (via carbomb that time), and the attempted highjacking and crashing of airliners into skyscrapers in the Bojinka (sp?) plot. It looks like once they get an idea in mind, it's try, try again, until it works.
The article mentions that 200-300 drivers got their licenses illegally from this "Muslim Brothers and Sisters trucking company", and only a dozen or so are under arrest, but I'm not worried. Why? Because this has nothing to do with terrorism, and because Islam is the Religion of Peace (tm).
I simply can't understand why "authorities" in West Planes couldn't see what was going on here. Why should only a very small number of individuals have been arrested. Are these people going to be deported for receiving a CDL using false documentation? How did they get Hazmat endorsements after they left this school? Is there a graduate truck driving school run by these people that can get them the endorsememts?

BS detector has now shifted to bright red and flashing rapidly. I'll go way out on a limb here and say that in fact, Homeland Security did too think that this was related to terrorism. My proof? For the past three days, it has been extraordinarily difficult to use the tunnnel from Windsor to Detroit. Each lot of cars has been taken through quickly, and no backup of traffic has been allowed in the tunnel. Trucks have been taken through separately from cars, something which rarely happens. I've been waiting for the other shoe to drop. I just heard the thud.
Each time there is a big arrest, seizure of properties or computers, or a foiled attack, the tunnel slows down to a crawl, and I try to stay at home instead of travling accross to the States. The last time this happened was when the London police arrested those involved in planning to bring down the planes. Prior to that, the slow-down was followed by the arrests of self-professed terrorists in Miami. During those titmes, extra Homeland Security officers were posted, bomb-sniffing dogs inspected all of the cars while we waited in line (much to the dismay of my own collie) and the cars, inside as well as under, were subjected to a much more thorough inspection than is generally the case. So, listen to what they say - but watch what they do more closely.

If those school operators are in fact guilty, they need to be hanged.

As we all know, in order to get the CDL-A hazmat endorsement the applicant must first get an FBI background check It has been less than 90 days since here in Michigan, 3 muslim men (from Texas no less)were arrested traveling the country buying disposable phones AND having various pictures of the Mackinaw Bridge (which connect the 2 peninsulas). Not only that, but the Ambassador Bridge here in S. E. Michigan has the most trade tonnage between the U. S. and Canada AND is a mere 4-5 miles from the home of the highest muslim population here in America. So, it is my sincere hope that these endorsements ARE NOT just another government "Rubber Stamp".

Driving an eighteen wheeler isn't the same as flying a commercial airliner. You don't need to sneak into any truck driving school, and go through allllll the hassles of getting a hazard hauling license ect.
All a terrorist needs do is wait for a truck with hazardous material to reach a stop light and the terrorist simply pulls out a hand gun and steals the truck.

Some of you are missing the big picture here. With a license to haul dangerous chemicals you also get access to places that store the same material. Multiple licenses, multiple plants, multiple targets. All the security in the world is useless if you give them the key.

As far as I know, there are no direct flights from Mogadishu to Kansas City. They have to go thousands of miles out of their way to get to the US. One could explain that as a flight from hell. But once in Heaven, they then go out of their way another 1500 miles to get to Kansas City. Why? What does Kansas City offer a muslim that New York doesn't? Cold, corn, and rednecks? Is that what draws them into the heartland?

Two Middle Eastern truck drivers acting suspicious & carrying radioactive cargo
Around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, 2006, an alert employee working the fuel desk at the Travel America of America Truck Stop on Interstate 80 in Brookville, Pennsylvania noticed that several things were “wrong.” Two men, both of Middle Eastern origin, speaking Arabic and broken English and operating a tractor trailer, with the trailer bearing radioactive cargo placards, provided the travel center false information: fraudulent registration information and a false vehicle identification number.
While one of the men was at the fuel desk, the other purchased a heavy-duty lock used to secure the rear cargo door of the trailer from the general store within the travel center. The men were observed as one used bolt cutters to cut the existing lock from the cargo door, after which both men entered the trailer. After being inside for a short time, both men exited the trailer and secured the cargo door with the newly purchased lock.
The men then proceeded to travel west on I-80 through Pennsylvania and into Ohio where they were stopped by the Ohio Highway Patrol inside Ohio. Vehicles such as these were used in the February 1993 attack on the World Trade Center and the 1995 attack on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Those two attacks killed 174 innocent American citizens and wounded over 1,800. The 1993 WTC mass-murder attempt also was an attempt at terrorist chemical warfare with the release of quickly lethal sodium cyanide.
