Coming from a Turkish official is that a compliment or an insult?
From AP
Turkey's ruling Islamic-rooted party joined a wave of criticism of Pope Benedict XVI on Friday, accusing him of trying to revive the spirit of the Crusades with remarks he made about Islam. A party official said the pontiff would go down in history "in the same category as leaders such as Hitler and Mussolini" for his words.
A few years ago, I bought then-Cardinal Ratzinger's book, Truth and Tolerance and was deeply disappointed that he bracketed Islam, the topic I was most interested in, for discussion at a later time. I am glad to see that now is finally the time for discussion.
The Pope criticised Islam's inhumanity, we have all seen Islam's inhumanity. The Pope is right and Islam is violent, it is not compatible with modern life, it has to change or go.
Here is my favorite:
Say Islam is a religion of peace or we'll blow your children up.
A party official said the pontiff would go down in history "in the same category as leaders such as Hitler and Mussolini" for his words.
Yeah, and you'll go down in history in the same category as Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, jerk!
Muslims are so stupid. They LOVE Hitler. They just can't stand the truth about how dangerous and intolerant their religions is.
These people were and still are Hitler's bedfellows in genocidal lunacy and evil----an evil that must be resisted once again and, for the last time, vanquished.
It's open season on the Pope. Lets see which Islamic bigot can come up with the biggest insult. What a pathetic idiot. Let's face it it doesn't take much to get 'em seething, their blood pressure going through the roof.
You'd think the nice Immam's would be suggesting everyone calm down for their own good if no one elses. Won't happen though. Fake rage...cartoon style...riots, violence, death - with extreme prejudice. It's what Islam brings to the world. It's what muslim's are good at.
Interestingly, if hitler was still around.. he would have gone for the muslims after he had finished with the jews.. afterall they aren't aryan either..
I bet a $50 donation to JihadWatch that the Pope WILL apologize. Keep up the good work, Robert, Hugh.
Orianna Fallaci will be missed.
Any of the "old gang" still around? Gary, Catherine, Son of Walker, Abbey's Mom, Colt, DC? Sorry, I've been too busy to read many comments for months and months.
If the Pope doesn't apologize in less than a week, someone email and remind me to send the money order to Robert Spencer.

One can be sure that the Pope gave tremendous considerations and thoughts to his words on Islam.
Of course Islamic leaders insult other religions on a daily basis without any compunction whatsoever.
I'm a bit confused here though, in many Islamic countries Hitler is seen as a hero because he tried to annihilate the Jews and one of the most popular books read in countries like Turkey is Mein Kampf along with the false analogy book written in the soviet Union about the Jews, The Elders of Zion.
Hypocrisy knows no bounds in Islam and the reason for that is they fervently believe they are right and everybody else is wrong. And it is this that makes this non-assimilating ideology so dangerous in a free society where Islam becomes first before any allegiance to the country that they live in.
I always take everything the say as the negative image of reality. Funny, putting that filter on it makes sense of it all. It's the reflection in the mirror or a negative of the photograph. Turn it exactly opposite and you have the real image.
This Pope could apologize, but he may not. He's 78, probably not in the best of health(according to his brother, also a Priest). I think he's thought long and hard on the subject of Islam. Now, he may clarify this statement or quote, but I don't think he will give real ground.
Look, at all the outrage, venom in the Musim world today, and for what? For putting a quote from the 14'nth century into play, one that is quite applicable today.
I don't always like what Pat Buchanan says about Israel. I don't like what some creep like Justin Raimando insinuates about Jews. But, I'm going to remain a productive citizen. I won't torch somebody in effigagy, or compare them to Hitler, or protest with seething rage about a cartoon or a hateful thought. Never have more true words been spoken than by this 14'nth century Christian leader.
I think your money is safe, kj.
Al BBCeera reports that 'The Vatican said the Pope had not intended to offend Muslims', so an apology can't be far off.

Check out the comments, though, especially the 'Readers Recommended' ones. The most recommended one at the moment is 'oh look, muslims are up in arms. again.' which must be a bit galling those running the site! And very few of the others are in support of the Mohammedans. Perhaps the tide of opinion is beginning to turn.
I happan to think that this Pope will go down in history with leaders such as Winston Churchill, I thought it was an excellent and powerful speach and I think it was carefully aimed at people in the West to explain what we are fighting, and also wavering Muslims who know there is something wrong with Islam but can't work out what to do.
All he will do is apologiose for upsetting them, but not for the words. It was a very clever speach and drew the expected result from them that further defines them as the Pope explained.
ok so its perfectly acceptable for us to watch muslims burn effigies of the pope on our lunchtime news programe, but heaven forbid us making a nice allah manequin and putting a match to it........
This is nearly enough for me to turn into a christian.
It seems everyone is pulling the Hitler comparison out of their back pocket nowadays, whether the equation is in proportion or not. I have heard people at my work compare BOTH Hillary Clinton and George Bush to Hitler. So I am at the point where the comparison means nothing to me when made by politicians, blogsters or hyperpartisans, especially after having read Mein Kampf and Hitler's Table Talk and having talked to people who lived in Hitler's Germany.
The one person who I see with a similar intention and goals is Bin Laden or possibly the wackjob in Iran. Let's leave the comparison to people who have intentions of wiping out and murdering groups of people or nations shall we?
Wow, what an impressive speech--more of a academic lecture, really.

I had not realized that the Pope was such a profound thinker and scholar. Guess that shows how much I know about the Church.
This Pope has shown tremendous courage by daring to speak the truth. While I'm quite sure the wave of criticism will escalate and dhimmi infidel apologists will pile on, he has literally opened the door and let the genie out, so to speak, and it won't go back in.
Hopefully it will lead to more Infidels taking a close look at Islam, and most importantly, become aware of the worldwide threat Jihad represents. Jihad isn't about Palestine or Iraq, as regular JW/DW readers know. The Infidel world needs to know and understand that.
If this escalates, you can count on the State Department condemning the Pope's remarks. Just like they condemned the cartoonists in response to worldwide Muslim 'outrage' (read riots and murders).
reminds me of a song we used to sing at junior school "onward christian soldiers......." i bet they dont teach the kids that one nowadays.
Once again the Muslim world is behind the times. The Far Left has been comparing all the Popes to Hitler for years. There are whole libraries full of books claiming that various Popes were Nazis. Where have these guys been? Next they'll be telling us King Kong was a giant gorilla
"Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before.
Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe;
Forward into battle see His banners go!
Refrain
Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before.
At the sign of triumph Satan’s host doth flee;
On then, Christian soldiers, on to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver at the shout of praise;
Brothers lift your voices, loud your anthems raise.
Refrain
Like a mighty army moves the church of God;
Brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod.
We are not divided, all one body we,
One in hope and doctrine, one in charity.
Refrain
What the saints established that I hold for true.
What the saints believèd, that I believe too.
Long as earth endureth, men the faith will hold,
Kingdoms, nations, empires, in destruction rolled.
Refrain
Crowns and thrones may perish, kingdoms rise and wane,
But the church of Jesus constant will remain.
Gates of hell can never gainst that church prevail;
We have Christ’s own promise, and that cannot fail.
Refrain
Onward then, ye people, join our happy throng,
Blend with ours your voices in the triumph song.
Glory, laud and honor unto Christ the King,
This through countless ages men and angels sing.
Refrain"
ah they dont write them like that anymore......
I love this Pope, and I'm not even Catholic!
Let's hope he stands his ground.
As many have noted, the irony of these vermin
trying to insult him by comparing him to their
hero Hitler is delicious.
There is much fuss among muslims about the Pope's statement, while the muslims themselves keep stating that USA, Israel and the West in general is in league with satan (how much more "demonizing" than that can anything be?), and that jews bake bread on the blood of arab children, and many other similar statements.
Well, that's the muslim way - first behave like barbarians in word and action, and then whine like children at the slighest hint of criticism of Islam or muslims. They really are disgusting and immoral.
It's truly dreadful the way Hitler's name is bandied about so casually these days. It seems that as time passes people are forgetting the scale and horror of what he and his thugs perpetrated. Between 1933 and 1945 the Nazis murdered 20 million unarmed and defenceless civilians (quite apart from the military personnel who died fighting them) in cold blood, mostly with a shot to the back of the neck into a ditch or against a wall....and finally gas chambers to speed things up a bit. Hitler and the Nazis were thoroughly evil and murderous and to compare the Pope to this man betrays the abominable insanity of the Islamic mindset, which is quite capable of perpetrating the same crimes against humanity on the same scale.
I hope this is "Cartoon Frenzy Two: The Sequel"
There's this moslem 'thing': a crazy worked up madness that is 'all spin and no traction' and once it gets going it is VERY educational for all of us.
You have to remember the Pope is a head of state, a very small state but still the head of a state, therefore killing him, insulting him or wounding him is a heavier crime compared to doing it to any normal citizen.
That's why the turk that attempted to murder JP2 got a life sentence. Because he tried to murder a head of state.
I think if the sub-humans go on with this trend, there's nothing wrong in find a crime of defamation or something.
Good sign!
Europe is finally having a Pope up to the mark.
The Muslim insults are because he is not politically correct. Hopefully more leaders of the calibre and the clearsightedness of this Pope emerge. It is essential for Europe's survival.
Let the Turks and other Muslims rant, they would love an anaestetized Europe..
A prominent muslim cleric has given a statement in the press that the West is evil and was responsible for genocides that have taken place in the last century. The statement was published by the media. He must have been studying something other than the koran for a change, for he said that 6 million Jews were murdered by Christians (not Nazis), and he brought up Red Indians and finally touched lightly on Crusades. A reporter asked him about the killings of 65000 Hindus in Kashmir, and the 1947 genocide of a million Hindus by muslims, and he started frothing at the mouth, breaking the conference up. But what he said, did make some newspapers. The anti-jihad people are lauding the Pope, and the muslims are trying to spread more confusion.
What I mean to say is, muslims are going to bring these matters up, so we'd better prepare our side for the propogands wars that are now spreading all over the globe. Yes, we here at JW know the truth, but how do we reach out to people who have read these clerics' statements first ?
How nice to read you comments again Arjun I have not seen your postings lately. I think that this will develop into something on the lines of the Danish Cartoon affair. The Popes comments were mild and could not by any stretch of the imagination, by anybody in the west to be classed as inflammatory. The over reaction of the carpet kissers will only confirm what more and more people in the west have been thinking that these people are seriously in need of a brain transplant. Just wait for the next polls and see the percentage of people who think that Islam is incompatible with modern western society rise. All he has to do is sit quiet and watch things develop. It is a win win situation. If they burn a few catholic churches in there anger, which by the way I hope will not happen. Then it will polarise opinion even more. The west is waking up and the tide is turning.
I repeatedly detect the following pattern (and you should, too):
1) A non-Muslim will do something that is reasonable for their own protection, or which benefits them somehow, or speaks up assertively with good reason.
2) A spokesman for the global jihad will accuse the non-Muslim of having done or said something morally reprehensible. The accusation is entirely unjustified, with no basis in fact or reason, in spite of being posed as an appeal to an ideal which is held in high regard by the non-Muslim.
3) The non-Muslim will apologize, retreat, or otherwise back off, having been duped yet again by this rhetorical gambit.
In this case, I'm expecting that Pope Benedict XVI still has the iron will he demonstrated as Cardinal Ratzinger, and will openly declare that rekindling the spirit of the Crusades is righteous and necessary. In some closed circles, which most of us will never know about, he almost certainly has done so already. Islam is committing the same atrocities, on a wide scale, that they committed when Crusades were waged in the past as a justified defensive tactic. If anyone can match rhetorical gambits with the Muslims, it will be the Vatican.
As before, defensive Crusades against Islam are most effective when the fight is brought to their home soil, which takes advantage of Islam's centuries-old tendency to self-immolate in the flames of sectarian hatred whenever they are forced to cooperate across sectarian divisions. I'm still wondering why I should think it's a bad thing when 30 Sunnis kill 60 Shiites one day, and 30 Shiites kill 60 Sunnis the next day. Its like gang wars between the Crips and the Bloods: we should be cheering from the sidelines, and throwing ammunition and energy bars at them.
I have to think that Benedict's election as Pope must have involved a very careful consideration by electors of who might best lead the Roman Catholic Church on a path of survival through the re-emergent global Islamist jihad, which the Vatican had been carefully and shrewdly studying for decades. I do not think Pope Benedict is capable of surrender, or "submission", and take heart in that belief.
The jihadists are waging their Crusade against us, and trying to talk us out of responding in kind. We need the Pope to be a leader in defending the non-Muslim world from Islam.
It would be foolish for Christians to think of not Taking Up The Cross. If they don't, The Cross will be outlawed by sharia.
XY said
I have heard that the Muslims are complaining about the Christian/Jewish/Hindu conspiracy against Islam, which is getting closer to their true paranoid belief. When they add Bahai, Buddhist, Shinto, Animist, atheist, Native American theology, Ahmadis, and Shi'a, then people will start to catch on that what they really mean is simply "non-Muslims", aka "infidels".
So, after comparing the Pope to Hitler, Turkey will be joining the EU when?
I wonder if Ralph Peters will now condemn the Pope as one of those unnamed "Christian extremists" he hates for calling out Islam itself.
I don't worry about Ratzi's age, because as Islam becomes a defining conflict of our age, we have Cardinals Pell and Schönborn waiting in the wings.
I wonder if this is why Rosie thinks that Christian radicals are as dangerous as muslims... because they're not afraid to expose the true nature of islam, which in turn incites muslims to go on a freak-wild carbeque rampage. Dangerous thing for Christians to do.
The Turks have outed themselves. Thank God for Jan Sobieski at Vienna in 1683.
Most interesting is the accusing associations of current leaders with Hitler.
While I am sure this is a ploy within the western media to be 'condemned by association' the western media and societies are still missing the point that the Grand Mufti paralelled the Muslim Brotherhood movement in the 1930's with Naziism, he met with and lived in Germany as a guest of Hitler because of his support in the same fascist movement and the killing of Jews, Hitler financed throught the Grand Mufti the current Islamic uprising that we saw come onto the seen in the 1930's.
The Grand Mufti carried regular Middle East radio programs of propaganda from Hitlers side all during WWII and pumped the programs into the Middle East to incite rage to carry on the fascism. The Grand Mufti recruited muslims to fight with Hitler during WWII. The Nazi SS Mountain Brigades were one group that was completely islamic.
If you go to a muslim country the Grand Mufti is honored in reverance equal or higher than the pope. Muslims had no problem with his Hitler and Nazi tie. And as Hitler had said that the Middle East could carry on his fascism, and Hitler had paid for and had in place this cause. We are seeing the carryover of this today.
Almost forgot, additionally why else is "Mein Komp" the best seller is Middle Eastern countries?
'Almost forgot, additionally why else is "Mein Komp" the best seller is Middle Eastern countries?'
Actually, they changed the title to "My Jihad" to make it sell better. I wish I was kidding.
Jihad, of course, meaning "internal personal struggle". What else could it mean, you blasphemous infidels, you?
Muslims today have taken up where the Nazis left off... they stand on the shoulders of the perpetuators of the Second World War and the Holocaust.
We all know this.
They call everyone Nazis in the West, though among their own selves, they do not use this slur because they prize Nazi literature and "work" -- there is nothing more sacred to Islamists then to murder a Jew.
Nazis are amateurs compared to Islamists. Islamists have been doing this business for over a millenium.
The more comments of this kind come from Turkey the more likely it is that Turkey might have to wait for the EU membership indefinetly.
On the other hand, it is more likely that the so called EU leaders will condemn the Pope instead of Turkey.
Comparing the Pope to Hitler, by the descendents of the 13th Waffen SS Division!
OH, what the heck. The muslifaschimos are always waiting for a chance to rant and rave and scream. Apparently, this is the only behaviour they know. Be nice to us or we will kill you and all other infidels (and such crap). The media is doing us all a disservice by giving this islamic nutheads so much press time. NUTS!
The turks have a nerve to compare the pope to a nazi when infact turkey was a allie to nazis in ww2
and if they find popes comment offensive thats tough i find it offensive that muslims Turks destroyed agia sopia and occupy constantinople and killed millions of armenians and greeks they havent apoligsed for that why should the pope aplogise ?
You know who is like hitler the people who committed Genocide against the armenians, greeks, assyrians, and ethnic cleansing against the kurds. And even if the pope was like hitler, which he is not. It would be like Jeffrey Dalmer criticizing Charles Manson in order to gain the moral high ground.
The Pope is supposed to be visiting Turkey in the near future. The scenes of outraged demonstrators running amok and holding up placards calling him all the names under the sun (no doubt with security alerts and death threts thrown in), can only be imagined. Europeans, seeing all this on their TV news, will think to themselves: look, now the Turks are insulting the Pope: when there is a referendum about Turkey joining the EU, perhaps it would be wiser for us to vote against these people who hold nothing European sacred. Of course Turkey could cancel the visit, which would look like a hostile snub, unlikely to impress Catholics. Very clever move of Benedict, in my opinion.
"Anyone who describes Islam as a religion as intolerant encourages violence"
Well, it's like this: when people repeatedly tell me that my informed criticism of islam makes me an islamophobic infidel...well, you know.
Prophet Geoff
So the Pope is "..in the same category as leaders such as Hitler...". Is that the same Hitler that muslims have asked God to bless?
http://jihadwatch.org/archives/010298.php
So what they are really saying is that this is a good thing and they want to riot because it is good? I'm confused.......
Since 09-11-01 there have been almost 6,000 attacks by muslims worldwide against non-muslims, yet if anyone says islam is a violent religion they will react more violently?
6,000 attacks is how they act when they're peaceful? WTF do they do when they're pissed off?
Also the Pope seems to be speaking with Papal infallibility, i.e., the Pope is preserved from error when he declares a dogmatic teaching on faith or morals. Since he is declaring that islam is a religion rooted in violence, it seems top me that His Holiness is speaking ex cathedra here, and therefore cannot be wrong, or am I mistaken?
Who would have thought the truth would upset the adherents of the religion of peace so much? Like someone once said, "You (muslims) can't handle the truth!
No, no Bohemond - they meant Dave Hitler. A different character entirely.
So the Pope criticizes islam, which makes him Hitler (a character that much of islam is actually kind of partial to). So no criticism of islam is possible, then. Islam may criticize with words or bombs or bullets, but no one may criticize islam.
If this isn't fascist imperialism, then would someone mind telling me what is?
Geoff
Geoff, thanks. I always get Adolf and Dave confused, just like Adam GAYdahan and this lady:
http://www.threeringrecords.com/windjammers/thebeardedlady-frame.gif
http://www.ynetnews.com/PicServer2/20122005/881392/NY116_wa.jpg
Of course after viewing the two photos you can understand how easy it is to confuse these two who might be twins who were seperated at birth.....
There is indeed a marked resemblance. Perhaps they are related? If Gadahn's mother is a bearded lady, was Gadahn's father then a circus freak, or a roadie?
I believe the former, and this is fard on all believers.
Prophet Geoff
Comparing the Pope to Hitler is a turkish mental fart.
What do they take in Turkey? Turkish dope mixed with Raki?
