After the Sept. 11 suicide hijackings, distraught U.S. Muslim leaders feared the next casualty would be their religion. Islam teaches peace, they told anyone who would listen in news conferences, at interfaith services and, most famously, standing in a mosque with President Bush.But five years later, the target audience for their pleas has shifted. Now the faith's American leaders are starting to warn fellow Muslims about a threat from within.
They should have done this from the beginning. It has been easy to tell non-Muslims that Islam teaches peace. Muslims have been the ones they have had to convince, and they still have no comprehensive, large-scale programs in place to teach Muslims what is wrong from an Islamic standpoint with the jihad theology of the modern-day jihadists -- which ought to be easy if they can really fall back upon a large peaceful tradition within Islamic theology.
The 2005 subway attacks in London that investigators say were committed by British-born and -raised Muslims, and the relentless Muslim-engineered sectarian assaults on Iraqi civilians, are among the events that have convinced some U.S. Muslims to change focus."This sentiment of denial, that sort of came as a fever to the Muslim community after 9-11, is fading away," said Muqtedar Khan, a political scientist at the University of Delaware and author of "American Muslims." "They realize that there are Muslims who use terrorism, and the community is beginning to stand up to this."
Better late than never, certainly.
Muslim leaders point to two stark examples of the new mind-set:_A Canadian-born Muslim man worked with police for months investigating a group of Islamic men and youths accused in June of plotting terrorist attacks in Ontario. Mubin Shaikh said he feared any violence would ultimately hurt Islam and Canadian Muslims.
_In England, it's been widely reported that a tip from a British Muslim helped lead investigators to uncover what they said was a plan by homegrown extremists to use liquid explosives to destroy U.S.-bound planes.

Cooperation isn't emotionally easy, as Western governments enact security policies that critics say have criminalized Islam itself.Safiyyah Ally, a graduate student in political science at the University of Toronto, wrote recently on altmuslim.com that Shaikh, the Canadian informer, went too far.
She said the North American Muslim community "is fragile enough as is" without members "spying" on each other. Leaders should counsel Muslims against violence and report suspicious activity to police _ but nothing more, she argued.
"We cannot have communities wherein individuals are paranoid of each other and turned against one another," Ally wrote.
Yet some leaders say keeping watch for extremists protects all Muslims and their civil rights.
Of course it does.
Salam al-Marayati, executive director of Muslim Public Affairs Council, an advocacy group based in Los Angeles, says working closely with authorities underscores that Muslims are not outsiders to be feared. It also gives Muslims a way to directly air their concerns about how they're treated by the government.
Quite so. In fact, that seems to be MPAC's primary concern, as I detailed here.
"We're not on opposite teams," al-Marayati said. "We're all trying to protect our country from another terrorist attack."In 2004, his group started the "National Anti-Terrorism Campaign," urging Muslims to monitor their own communities, speak out more boldly against violence and work with law enforcement. Hundreds of U.S. mosques have signed on, al-Marayati said.
I discuss this initiative in more detail in the article linked above. Suffice it to say here that MPAC made Steve Emerson, not bin Laden or Zarqawi or Zawahiri, the focus of an anti-terror conference a few years back. That is indication enough of where its focus lies.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a civil rights group, ran a TV ad campaign and a petition-drive called "Not in the Name of Islam," which repudiates terrorism. Hundreds of thousands of people have endorsed it, according to Ibrahim Hooper, the group's spokesman.After the London subway bombings, the Fiqh Council of North America, which advises Muslims on Islamic law, issued a fatwa _ or edict _ declaring that nothing in Islam justifies terrorism. The council said Muslims were obligated to help law enforcement protect civilians from attacks.
"I think everyone now agrees that silence isn't an option," Hooper said. "You have to speak out in defense of civil liberties, but you also have to speak out against any kind of extremism or violence that's carried out in the name of Islam."

But many Muslims say they're being asked to look out for something that even the U.S. government struggles to define: What constitutes an imminent threat?Khan said he has heard of cases in American mosques where imams have expressed extreme views in sermons and worshippers have confronted the prayer leaders about it.
"But beyond that what else can we do?" Khan said. "Do we need to hire a private detective to put on this guy? If five guys came to me and said, `Muqtedar, let's get together. Let's blow up this and that,' then I would call the police. But the community does not understand surveillance."
Imam Muhammad Musri, head of the Islamic Society of Central Florida, said he has tried to address this problem in the eight mosques he oversees in the Orlando area.
He regularly invites law enforcement officials to speak with local Muslims and encourages mosque members to come to him with any suspicions, even if they overhear something said in jest. Musri says he also speaks regularly with local FBI and police to establish a relationship in case a real threat emerges.
"Here in Central Florida, talking to most people, they are literally upset by the actions of Muslims _ or so-called Muslims _ overseas in Europe and the Middle East, because they say, `We wish they would come and see how we're doing here,'" Musri said. "We know who the real enemy is _ someone who might come from the outside and try to infiltrate us. Everybody is on the lookout."
Good. We will soon be seeing the fruits of this, I'm sure. But the fact that MPAC and CAIR are invoked here does not exactly inspire confidence.

There is no bright line between "moderate" Muslim and "immoderate" Muslim. There are the texts, which are clear. There is the history of Islam, of Jihad-conquest, and of mistreatment of non-Muslims -- every possible kind of non-Muslim -- over a very long period. Any wilingness to collaborate -- and one should not be grateful for such collaboration, for it is the absolute minimum that should be expected -- in dampening down the appeal of "extremists" or identifying those most likely and most obviously to use terrorism in their pursuit of Jihad. But this does not mean, in a spirit of misplaced and entirely unnecessary gratitude, that one should cease one's efforts to inform oneself and others about Islam, and to recognize that the more pressure is put on local Muslims in the Lands of the Infidels, the more uncertain their position, the more rather than less likely that some of them, in order to protect themselves, will offer such collaboration. Anyone who, however, in identifying himself as a Muslim, and cannot offer the Infidel nation-state and its members unquqalified loyalty, but merely collaborates with the security forces of that nation-state only in order to protect, as he sees it, the situation and continued ability of Muslims to conduct Jihad by other means, through other instruments (chiefly Da'wa and the rapid growth of Muslim populations, unchecked by the suspicion of Infidels who will be so grateful for "collaboration" by the few "good" Muslims, and so wary, then, of alienating their affections that they will overlook, or never fully comprehend, what a small number actually do collaborate, and how limited that collaboration is, and how in any case, those other instruments of Jihad need at least as much attention as terrorism, for the texts remain, unchanged, and not to be ignored, and to be returned to, at any time, by anyone in any generation, whenever personal setbacks, or any number of reasons, cause someone who calls himself a Muslim to look into them, and to take them, alas, to heart.
Hearts and minds are not permanently winnable. And the offer of a few to at least turn in those who might be connected to planning or committing acts of terrorism is thin gruel on which to nourish hopes that "see, things are working, hearts and minds are being won, we just have to keep at it, just have to allow more integration of our Muslim population, just have to work with them rather than against them."

I have increasing told you peoples that there is now significant differences between muslims and wuslims.
Wuslims recognise that not only do they want to live in the west...grudgingly they like the laws and grants on offer by the infedel.
Also there are others like me who recognise that the ONLY way to "win over the infedel" is through peaceful demographic means. There are three points of importance here.
1) Getting as many of the infedels over to our side by for example inter-marrying, conversions, tying them up in business deals, cheap money making scams (the infedel is easily led away by materialistic things).
2) Fighting "tooth and nail" for additional rights and involving the peoples who have joined Islam in point 1. Essentially these will be your "intellegent wuslims". This means for example getting mosques built in sensitive areas, getting permission for loudspeakers for call to prayers and getting some important Islamic festivels recognised as public holidays ...what a coup that would be.
3) We all know that despite Bush's retroic...Sharia and democracy are like chalk and cheese...like oil and water...( Heck just ask AIG), they will never mix.
The infedel doesn't like sharia, the muslims and the wuslim cannot live without it. So how to implement sharia in the west...without a fight.
The wuslims has figured it out...and so have I.
Use democracy to destroy democracy.
With enough wuslims we can win power...political power ...which can change the law....the hapless infedel brought up on democracy and unwilling to bend will say "fair cop", it's been done through the vote...we can but must not complain...that is what my forefathers fought for.

I have read volumes on WWII, Mein Kampf and Hitler's Table Talk and talked to Germans who lived through the time period, and I see no problem with the comparison in most respects.
For that matter, I see many parallels between Hitler and Bin Laden's goals and motivation.
Of course, I am no Historian, and one can make splitting hairs and distinctions an end in itself, but I believe the there is enough in common to apply the comparison.

a). take measures to encourage citizens to have larger families again (not over the top, but a number like 3 or 4 is a nice one because it provides for the replacement rate and allows room for growth and for compensation for those who remain childless).
b). enact restrictive laws controlling the practice of the Islamic "religion" (strict regulation of the curriculum in Islamic schools and training institutues for Islamic clerics; controls on what can be preached and the "doctrine" proclaimed in Mosques; perhaps even restrictions on the public availability of the Koran; all of this on pain of deportation or imprisonment for those who refuse to comply. (Muslims who are sincere about wanting to fit in and live peaceably in the West should be lobbied to see these restrictions as necesary to protect them from their own extremists and their willingness to accept them seen as a test of their loyalty).
c). encourage immigration from regions like Latin America, the Phillipines, and the more recently Christianized areas of Africa, as well as the Hindu populations of India, or just about any other non-Muslim areas with some people to expend, to fill in any gaps (the solidly Christian traditions of Hispanic lands will help guarantee the birth of lots and lots of little crusaders to counter any nascent jihadists in our lands).

Sorry if OT, but the wire services have reported the crash of an Iranian airliner in Iran. 80 people were killed. Officials do not suspect Christian or Jewish or Hindu terrorism is involved, because Christian and Jewish and Hindu followers have never carried out such attacks in the name of their religion. Air travelers there can continue to fly without fear of Christian/Jewish/Hindu terrorists. Their first thought when they hear of an airliner crash does not need to be "I bet the Christian/Jewish/Hindu terrorists are involved". Their governments do not need to spend millions on screening equipment that can detect Christian/Jewish/Hindu terrorist bombs.

3) Demand that our elected official make laws, effictive immediatly, to protect our freedoms. When one of our laws is impinged upon, jump on it, in mass with everyone who will rally round, and if thats only you, so be it! - call, write, e-mail until the answer is given. The key word here is given/done, put into action. Do not accept anything less than done, trying, working on, it will come please waite, will not cut it. If they cann't get it done or won't put someone else in who will!!
4) Every time a crime is reported falsely. Jump on it! Make the police, all elected officials accountable, make reporters report the truth!
5) Every time a Muslin is honor-murdered, regiliouly-murdered, mulated, or threated/harmed in any way, make the public officials accountable. We have laws to protect against abuse -SEXUAL, PHYSICAL,MENTAL, & RELIGIOUS!! The laws are already in place, we must insist that they be used to protect these Muslims. Yes, that is one thing I don't get: why are we so impressed if one Muslim out of hundreds of millions turns in a terrorist here or there? If Muslims living in the U.S. are truly members of U.S. society, and not permanant Pakistanis/Afghanis/Jordanians/etc. who are living in Pakistani/Afghan/Jordanian/etc. neighborhoods that just happen to be located in the U.S., then they would feel like one of "us", the U.S. citizens who are under attack from the few radical twisters of a particular brand of Islam, instead of one of "them", their brothers, their Ummah, their co-religionists who need their support, morally and financially. There would be no question of "collaboration", since it wouldn't even be "collaboration", if they did consider themselves to be one of "us".
By heartily congratulating the very rare Muslim who takes the trouble of identifying a jihadist before he makes an attack (as opposed to say, the congregation that bands together to run a "moderate" imam out of town under death threats), it is only making it more plain, more obvious that deep down we know where their loyalty lies: with the Ummah, not with their fellow citizens. I've wondered how those that loose a foot, hand, head, get stoned, hung for being raped, divorced and had their children suffer greatly, actually feel about sharia law. I'm well aware that most muslim women seem to WANT islam. But I feel that, fear of retribution is what keeps the lot of them in the cult. I can't imagine, for myself, being hunted down to be killed, for the rest of my life, for getting out of a cult. If there was actually a safe haven for these women and their children, to live out their lives without fear of running into muslim males, willing to kill them, I think they would take it. If muslim women were given the chance, they could get out of the hive, toss the burka and hijab (they can still dress modest without the tent) get educated, work, GAIN INDEPENDENCE, I honestly think they would jump at the chance.
I think now that Naseem is alone, she should want the chance to be independent and live as a free person. Of course, she can't do that in paki.

I think there are many "intelligent" muslims, in the clinical sense. What we could use are a few "wise" muslims. As far as psychotic behavior spoiling the whole muslim show, hell psychotic behavior is the whole muslim show!
As others have said, why are these people not speaking out in public? Why are they not publically condeming what terrorists are doing in the name of Islam?
I don't know. I can't say that I buy it. When they start coming out in PUBLIC with this and come out against this crap in PUBLIC, then I might look at changing some of my views.
However, as long as these groups continue to keep their mouths shut on their views, except amongst themselves, they will continue to be questioned, under suspicion and in many places possibly, unwelcome.
If these people really DO feel that what is being done in the name of their religion is wrong, but continue to say nothing publically about it, then they can't complain about treament they may get in public or what non Muslims think about them.
If they indeed ARE turning in people, then we don't need to know specifics on that. Why open up the "snitches" to the criminals. I understand that.
It would help, however, if it was stated that, such and such terrorism plan was stopped because of a tip from the Muslim community-no specific names of people or Mosques, I think that would be a start.

A week ago Friday my SO and I had the opportunity to see the movie by director Oliver Stone, "World Trade Center". It was an excellent movie from begining to end. I have a very concrete problem related to all this, and I would very much appreciate anyone's suggestions or advice or help on this.
I have a neighbor in an apartment building I live in whom I suspect -- with insufficient evidence I must add -- of potential Muslim terrorist planning. I don't know what to do to ascertain more evidence, or where to go to report him.
Frankly, I don't have confidence in American law enforcement, as I believe they are so saturated with PC, they would either discount my fears as "Islamophobic" paranoia, or would investigate me and not my neighbor -- or if they did do any investigating of my neighbor, they might not take care to keep me anonymous to my neighbor, who would then know that it was me who ratted him out.
I don't want to go into details here, for fear of being found out myself. All I will say now is that I live in the USA, in a major city west of the Mississippi.
If anyone would like to contact me to hear more particulars and perhaps offer advice, I would much appreciate it.
Again: the evidence I have is so slim, it borders on being no evidence at all. But I believe one cannot be too carefull in such circumstances.

If I had the slightest suspicion that my neighbor was a terrorist, I would certainly report it to somebody. An anonymous report would be better than none. You could write a letter to the police commissioner stating your concerns and explaining why you wish to withhold your name.
Or you could go to a pay phone and call the narcs and tell them someone is selling crack out of an apartment to the neighborhood kids. Maybe they would put him under surveillance and find out he's really a terrorist instead of a dope dealer.
However, I think an anonymous tip to the authorities would be the best way to handle this. If they ignore it, you might have to go and talk to someone in person. I'm sure they wouldn't reveal your identity unless you were a witness to illegal activities and had to testify in court.
If you do nothing and this guy is a terrorist, you're really going to hate yourself.

Thanks to all who offered suggestions about my neighbor. Unfortunately, I don't even know for sure if he is Muslim. The problem is one of lack of evidence, which could mean he is in "deep cover", but then, maybe not (that's the problem with a "deep cover"). There are a lot of details behind my suspicions, but again I don't want to publicize them here. I guess an anonymous tip would be best, for now.
