This week, the 57-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference decried what it called the "shrinking space" for tolerance toward Muslims in Europe."Muslims have noted with concern that the values of tolerance are eroding and there is now shrinking space for others' religious, social and cultural values in the West," the Saudi-based OIC, the world's largest Islamic association, said a statement sent to Reuters.
This lack of tolerance is absolutely as it should be.
If anything, there is still far too much tolerance of European Muslim isolationists and their preachers, whom the OIC and its Saudi patrons train, fund, and influence to promote barricaded communities inside cultural ghettos, waging war against the societies that embrace them.
For decades, these interconnected webs of mosques, Islamic schools, and imported OIC imams have used the same freedom of speech they deny others to introduce the favored OIC concept of repressed societies to the heart of liberal Europe.
Their quest has not been limited to insulating their communities from a sea of democracy. They also have sought to reverse freedoms for Western citizens who want to publish, write, make films, and read. Witness the hounding of the British author Salman Rushdie and his books, the mayhem over the Danish cartoons of Prophet Muhammad, the upheaval over Pope Benedict's critical comments on Islam, and the far too numerous attempts to ban creative works on Islam.

Remember fellow non-Muslims our rightful and justified criticism and questioning of the unsavoury aspects of Islam is taken as hatred and intollerance. If so called Islamic leaders had intelligence to match their arrogance they might shut their mouths and open their ears. Unless they start to acknowledge and debate the issues rather than acting like nasty, dishonest and spoiled little children then the outcome will only get worse. I used to read hopeful reports about some Muslims working towards reforming a few of the more radical facets of Islam thought to contribute to violent extremism.I can't recall very many articles about the glowing success of changes in Sharia or womens' rights laws.The exportation of controversial schools has not been curtailed.The Muslims as a whole continue to reject change.They radicalize and embrace the good old sword-swinging days of 700AD and more Muslims die.

I feel like I'm being forced into lumping all of Islam into the same giant dungheap of an enemy.It seems to be normal for a Muslim to have that ability, but it's quite foreign to me.I better get used to it because I see no alternative.

I have followed Youssef Ibrahim over the years. He was far less truthful in the past, far more of an apologist, and as a New York Times correspondent, and then later as a fellow of the Council on Foreign Relations (where he must have come up against all kinds of islamically useful idiots, such as Henry Siegman), his general line, and even his hostility toward Israel -- the kind of thing one discovers not in all, but in a good many Egyptian "reformers" who can never bring themselves to actually inquire into the legal, moral, and historic claims of the Jews of Israel to the land they now possess (vide Saad Eddin Ibrahim, who has thrown in his lot with the Ikhwan, but long before that would speak about Israel in dead-giveaway terms).
Over the last few years something has finally happened to Youssef Ibrahim. Possibly even, quite literally, on the Road to Damascus. Possibly he now realizes that Islam is the problem, and a direct problem for him and those he loves. Will he go all the way like Magdi Allam? Will he go all the way like Walid Shoebat and make the connection between Islam and the unassuagable Jihad against Israel as an Infidel state?

my parents just told me they were "invited" (i hope this is not the spider to the fly) to an inter-faith dialogue at a mosque or some other terror training center where they are trying to make a difference with the kids of today to change future generations-- my folks said the muslims are reaching out...
i told them that is not the problem...the muslims (if capable or even if they want to which i seriously doubt) need to reach IN and if there religion truly is a religion of peace (not based in the reality that I see)they need to denounce all of the violence,talkings of violence and DO SOMETHING to show they are a religion of peace...silence is acquiescence and the mooslim silence is deafening...
i asked my parents for the address and they refused to give it to me...i am thinking of tailing my parents to find out where this jihad jimnasium is and so the authorities can be alerted just in case this is the strategy of the "one-man jihad" that i just read about (luring the infidels somewhere and offing their heads) i told them to bring some slices of bacon or a side of pork to use just in case (kinda like garlic for vampires)

My perspective is that Islam is ultra-intolerant. And that the West is ultra-tolerant. I see both as being polar opposites and extreme. Neither, are good in my opinion. Ultra-tolerance in the West allows the ultra-intolerance of Islam.
A person's religious beliefs are their most deeply held beliefs. I have no illusions about transforming millions of Muslims (or anyone else) into believing as I do. The best I can do is show them just what it was that convinced me of the beliefs I hold. Then, they must decide for themselves.
There exists however, a third extreme position. Namely, that ALL religions are bad and form the basis for human suffering. I think that is a dangerous (see Communism) position to take as well.
While individual conversions are possible, they are not the rule. If we cannot live in harmony, and that appears to be the case, then we must seperate to live in peace.
The door swings both ways. If muslims find civilization not to their liking, they should return to Dar-al-islam.
But I'm afraid that they have the idea that mahdi is here now (or is soon to be) and the time is now for world domination.

Foehammer you are so right and it is great to see the tolerance for Islam dissapearing in the western world as ordinary people are starting to see through the lies people being told by our gutless leaders.
Islam expects its enemies to be tolerant toward it while it is highly intolerant of everything and everyone not in accord with it. This hypocrisy is one big reason why anyone with half a brain finds this cult repugnant.
