Baghdad police unit scrapped for helping death squads

Members of this brigade will be "re-trained," which will simply amount to more training to be exploited for their own purposes. And to add insult to injury, the responsibility for that "re-training" has been placed upon US troops, who must wonder which side of the battlefield they might later see these policemen on. Sunni-Shi'ite Jihad Update from the Times Online:

An entire police brigade in Baghdad has been suspended and its commander placed under arrest on charges of aiding sectarian death squads that have carried out mass kidnappings, it emerged today.
The Eighth Brigade of the 2nd National Police Battalion, created to keep order in western Baghdad, was de-mobilised a day after armed men in uniform herded off 14 shopkeepers from central Baghdad, and two days after 24 workers were abducted from a meat processing plant in the capital.

Just a bit of an understatement:

"The brigade’s past performance does not demonstrate the level of professionalism sought by the ministry of the interior," Major General William Caldwell, of the US military, said.
"It was realised that removing them from Baghdad would, in fact, enhance security." The brigade has more than 800 officers in uniform.
"There was clear evidence that there was some complicity in allowing death squad elements to move freely, when in fact they were supposed to be impeding their movement," General Caldwell said.
"The forces in the unit have not put their full allegiance to the government of Iraq and gave their allegiance to others," he added.
Sunni leaders have for months accused police units of helping Shia death squads carry out a series of massive kidnappings, which have included the abduction of the entire US-Iraqi Chamber of Commerce, several groups of factory workers and the Iraqi Olympic Committee.
They have charged that the police forces are hopelessly infiltrated by members of Shia militias who have killed scores of innocent people.
Brigadier Abdel Karim Khalaf, an interior ministry spokesman, said the lieutenant colonel in charge of the Eighth Brigade had been detained and was being questioned, while rank-and-file policemen were being investigated at random.
The charges of complicity in the sectarian war that has crippled the capital was a further admission by the Shia-led government that its own security forces are partly responsible for the incessant violence plaguing Baghdad.
[...]
The disgraced brigade will be sent for re-training by American forces, although one US trainer said the training programme had been scheduled months ago as part of a sweeping overhaul of Iraq’s police forces, who were hastily recruited after the 2003 invasion and which have frequently proved inadequate to the task of eradicating violence.

Many times in the past, kidnappings were witnessed to be carried out by men in police uniforms. It looks like the uniforms were not stolen. Muslims conduct kidnappings not for ransom, only for executions.

Muslims, every day, prove themselves to be a disgusting lot.

Criminals in uniform. Those people don't need re-training, they need to be put in jail.

How about running over them with a train? That would be a good training excercise.

Frustrated, I just pulled the string a couple times on my little "Dubya The Dhimwit Doll"

pull 1) "It's a tough fight...ur...uh...this war..in uh...the middle east...but I'm proud...ur...because we're taking the fight to them."

pull 2) "We're taking the fight to the enemy...keeping them off balance...taking the fight to them.

pull 3) "America's a safer place cuz of our efforts to take the fight to them."

pull 4) "It's a tough fight...ur...uh...this war..in uh...the middle east...but I'm proud...ur...because we're taking the fight to them."

“Obsession: Radical Islam’s war against the West”

“Obsession” is available again.
It was available for a while on google and then mysteriously disappeared. It is back!

“Obsession” is I think, one of the most important political films ever made.

The film is available in it’s entirety here.

It is just as important as “An inconvenient truth.”

You will need broadband to watch this.

Email the website address onto all the people in your address book who you think will benefit from watching it.
(Be careful who you send it to; you do not want to provoke a backlash)

Having said that, I think that the vast majority of all the points made in it are fair.

I know I sound like a broken record here but...

This wouldn't have happened if Saddam Hussien and Tarik Aziz were still in charge!

So, these guys will be retrained. Does this mean they get a free pass for their previous crimes? Must be that "3 strikes and you're out" deal being taken to Iraq. Maybe after 2 more strikes these uniformed thugs will finally be fired (at least).

Ah, nation building can be so much fun-especially when it's being done for grateful people.

This wouldn't have happened if Saddam Hussien and Tarik Aziz were still in charge!

But then the (Sunni) Iraqi government would still be killing and torturing the (Shi'ite and Kurdish) Iraqi people. Saddam and his sons would still be terrorizing our good friends and allies, the Iraqi people. The Iraqis and Iranians might have rekindled their bloody war, killing each other by the millions.

And we would have 3000+ soldiers still alive, and $500 billion more to spend on our own defense.

Isn't that a scenario too horrible to contemplate?

Training isn't going to solve that problem.

But executions might. That brigade ought to be subjected to the ancient Roman punishment of decimation. Where one in every ten men is singled out, and executed for the flaws of the entire group. The French army instituted such policies during the First World War, when the occasional unit's performance didn't measure up.

Traitors need to be executed.

PUBLICLY.

And ISLAMISFORLOSERS is dead right, does the retraining mean that the dirtballs get off for previous kidnappings, previous murders, previous rapes, previous beatings, previous mayhem.

Those in charge have to be executed.

And they have to be executed BEFORE the other men in that unit. Otherwise disband the whole damn unit, and send everyone of the men in that unit to Abu Gharib to rot for the duration.

But this problem needs to be addressed in ways far beyond mere "retraining."

How does one "retrain" Shi'a to ignore the mass killings of Shi'a under the Sunni despotism (camouflaged as "Ba'athism" in Iraq, just as the Alawite despotism in Syria continues to be ill-disguised as the Syrian version of "Ba'athism"), or the suppression of the Shi'a during the entire history of modern Iraq, or the history of Sunni persecution and even murder of Shi'a both in other Muslim countries (e.g., Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain) both now, and over the past 1300 years? What form will this "training" take? Will the instructors be Americans, with their profound understanding of Sunni and Shi'a Muslims and their historic relations? Will it be Sunnis, teaching Shi'a how to be nice to Sunnis? Will it be other Shi'a, instructing the Shi'a who were caught by the Americans, in how to say certain things for the sake of those Americans, to indicate they have recanted, have come to see things differently -- and to bide their time until the Americans have been thoroughly taken for every last billion, every last bit of military equipment, every last bit of American sacrifices made to put down the "insurgency" -- that is, the Sunnis who will not acquiesce to their own loss of power in Iraq, and then shown the door.

What training? By whom? With what lasting effets? Testable by whom?

It's all nonsense. It's all nonsense and a nightmare, and of a piece with all the brave new "counter-insurgency" plans and programs that leave out the big thing, the main thing, the only thing: Islam, the belief-system of Islam, and what that means, and does not mean, for America's Light Unto the Muslim Nations Project.

Captain Queeg is running this ship of state. He will not veer. He will not change course. He knows he's right. Nothing will convince him otherwise.

And we are on that ship. Helpless, and hopeless. And none of the crew members will make a move to seize control of the rudder. We hunger for the implied bounty of a mutiny, but no one will publicly come forward, and attack Captain Queeg for the right reasons, with the right proferred analysis.

E la nave va.

'Farce' was reached at least 18 months ago. What do you call this?

The usual trajectory along which farce usuallly descends --- into tragedy. That's what we would all wish to avoid. That is what is so avoidable at this point, if only our rulers would possess a modicum of common sense and a modest ability to think. It is not too much to ask.

Bloody joke

Are we fools? Do those who issue all these lame US Military announcements about prior schedules believe that we are as fcking stupid as is this training and re-training of Islamic forces to keep order in faction-wracked Iraq?

Rummy, GW: Give it up! Give it up already. It ain't gonna work. You can't fix it. It's Islam, Stupid! And nothing you can do will ever change it to become a US-type "democracy.

Now, any other Democrats out there (and I am a registered Democrat) just hold on there. Not so fast. You ain't come up with nuthing more than a Howard Dean, John Kerry and Heaven-help-us-all Mme. Clinton. What else you got (I said I am still registered as a democrat, but I haven't voted for any for a long time now).

Please, I do not--nor will I argue--about any Left-Right, Republican-Democrat issues here. this is not the forum for that. All I'm here for is to help wake the still "good" part of the world to recognize what is about to do us in.

So, I will argue with anybody (no Moslems though, I never debate nor argue with Moslems any more--I used to, but when they, the other side, uses koranic logic as the basis for its arguments, there is no common ground)--so, I will argue about how to defang Islam, de-cojonize the jihadists, where to best strike, but not whether donkeys or elephants are better or whether "I'd rather be Left than Right." or the other way 'round.

This typical report from NBC, I assume it is true:

"Many of the estimated 23 Shiite and Sunni militias operating in the capital have ties to the very politicians whom the U.S. encouraged to join the new government of national unity. Al-Sadr, for example, is a pillar of support for Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki."

Our mortal enemy and the enemy of all our plans is a 'pillar of support' to the central figurehead of our side?

I keep thinking I'm misunderstanding what I'm reading... don't you? It seems so hopelessly, utterly INANE.

Up till about 6 months after the purple finger joy moment, the Iraq project was worth it. We in the West (with, btw, no help at all from Hindus or Commie Chinese or the Japanese or Koreans) took upon our shoulders to test whether Moslems could be civilized.

The can not, and they will not be civilized. This contravenes their core princples.

So, when Moslem activists pull off their first big terror strike on American soil, we will have already dispensed ourselves of the Moderate Moslem fantasy and will thereby be able to strike back with full force --- the Marixsts professors and broadcasters notwistanding.

Aricle III, Section 2 of the US Constitution reads: the supreme Court shall have appellate Jurisdiction, both as to Law and Fact, with such Exceptions, and under such Regulations as the Congress shall make.

We need a new Congress. And pronto.

Another Republican and conservative success,, blow it off boys, vote for the Culture War (Oreilly will love ya).

The Iraqi Police is Shi'a, the Badr Brigade and Mehdi Army in official blue drag.

The Prime Minister of Iraq is Shi'a, a friend and ally of Ahmadinutjob and of course George W. Bush and Condi Rice.

The Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) is run by Iranian Ayatollahs al Sistani and al Hakim, both of whom are clients of the Iranian Revolutionary Council of Iran aka the mullahcracy.

George W. Bush and his appointees have approved and are responsible for installing a Taliban like Islamic Theocracy in Iraq.. and demand that we continue supporting them.. calling those of us who resent spending our money and blood in the cause of supporting the real Jihad (the Islamization of the world) traitors, terrorist lovers and cut and runners.

And the only people who have profited from the invasion and occupation are the defense industry, the private contractors like Cheney's firm Haliburton/Kellogg Brown and Root and those mercenary outfits err Security Firms and corporations that are the prime supporters of the RNC.
Abe Lincoln was wrong, you can fool all of the people all of the time - if those people are right wing conservatives. Hitler proved that, Bush has proven that, Islam proves that (Islam is the epitomy of right wing conservativism).

nariz scores another one for the muslim cause!

You want to commit to that one?

After the pullout of Polish combat forces, the ROK had the third largest presence in Iraq.

Japan had a relatively sizable contingent there too.

Yes, yes, Nariz. Bush and the Republicans.
