Danish PM, Iran president condemn Muhammad cartoons

Cartoon Rage II Update from Reuters (thanks to Sr. Soph), which has apparently become an openly Islamic organization and now refers to Muhammad without qualification as "the prophet."

Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen denounced members of the anti-immigrant Danish Peoples' Party (DPP) youth wing on Sunday for drawing humiliating cartoons of the prophet Muhammad.

In Tehran, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said those who insulted the prophet were "low lifes," cevoid [sic] of human values, the student news agency ISNA reported.

The two leaders' condemnations followed Danish state TV's airing on Friday of amateur video footage showing members of the DPP youth wing at a summer camp in August, drinking, singing and taking part in a competition to draw images mocking the prophet.

"I strongly condemn the behaviour of members of the youth wing of the Danish Peoples' Party," Rasmussen told Ritzau news agency.

"It is unacceptable behaviour by a small group of young people. Their tasteless behavior in no way represents the way the Danish people or young Danish people view Muslims or Islam," Rasmussen said.

In other words, please don't hurt us.

OT, but Vlaams Belang has won a lot of seats in the Belgium election. They believe that Islam should be de-legitimised as a religion.

It is unacceptable behaviour by a small group of young people.

Does this become "acceptable" behavior when engaged in by a suitable number?

Seldom have I seen a more abject display of fealty.

Where I come from, there's a name for people who are so eager to appease:

Punks.

"I strongly condemn the behaviour of members of the youth wing of the Danish Peoples' Party," Rasmussen told Ritzau news agency.

At least he didn't apologise...as the Muslims were demanding for the original Mo cartoons.

I guess this means, of course, that Reuters will also start refering to Jesus as "the messiah," or the Jews as "G_d's chosen people." I'll be waiting with abated breath.

In an unrelated story, how do people think that N. Korea's nuclear test will affect the potential for Iran or other Islamic states or terrorist organizations to gain a nuclear weapon? (The U.N. is to "discuss" this today. I can't wait to see what course of inaction the almighty U.N. will take.)

Pia Kjærsgaard the leader of the Danish peoples party at a press conference in Christianborg (Danish parliament building) about the party where the videos were taken said that when the drink goes in commonsense disappears, and it is not nice to see people making fools of themselves

but what she says at the end shows that the Danes still seem to be the only people in the west that are showing some backbone. Here is the last comment with the translation after

hvis andre lande og Det Muslimske Broderskab nu vil til at bestemme, hvad vi gør i Danmark. Der bliver ikke nogen undskyldning fra partiets side,

If other lands, or the muslim brotherhood now try to decide what we do in Denmark. There will be no apology from the Party.

Interestingly, the MSN is not carrying this story. Could it be that they are suppressing it, to protect the islamic world from giving itself another black eye? Is Al-Jeezera carrying this story? I bet not.

Reuter's learning fast, but still has some way to go. They forgot to add (pbuh). A little armtwisting by muslims should be able to mend this.

Comments by Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen in an interview February 2006

..."I would like to stress that Freedom of Speech stands second to none for me of all our liberties. I see it as the guarantor of all our other liberties. And I see Freedom of Speech - the right to speak truth to power - as the basic locomotive of all Western societies. It’s what makes progress possible, that norms aren’t accepted on face value. That’s why it is so essential to guard it. All our liberties are answerable to the courts, of course. I too think that there are limits to what one may lawfully say. For instance, I don’t think it’s right if you have the liberty to encourage violence and terror. And apart from that, we also have a restriction on racist or blasphemous speech, and if you feel that you’ve been so spoken to, you may take your complaint to a court of law. So it is a liberty that is limited by the courts - but - here’s the point - the limits are enforced by the courts, not the government. That’s a lesson we have to be mindful of..."

Personally I've found a way to challenge the muslims so that they will be sent a clear message of defiance. I've started to produce a movie about the life of Mohammad, with all the sordid details of his life. It may cost me dearly, but so be it. The last Viking isn't dead yet.

Don't know if it matters much, but there's an error in the translation of the PM's comments.

"I strongly condemn the behaviour of members of the youth wing of the Danish Peoples' Party," Rasmussen told Ritzau news agency."

It should read:

"I strongly oppose/disagree with the behaviour of members of the youth wing of the Danish Peoples' Party," Rasmussen told Ritzau news agency."

I don't know if it makes much of a difference in English, but in Danish it does.

@germaninamerica

"Well, of course he condemns them!
They're his opposition. His party may be on it's way out."

Actually The Danish People's Party is not the opposition. But they are not part of the government either.

This might seem strange to people living in democracies where governments must have the majority to govern. In Denmark the government can't have a majority against itself, but it doesn't need a steady majority backing it up all the time either. A minority government (allmost every Danish government is a minority government) can operate it's way around legislation by using different parties as supprot for different issues. Of course no parties want to be the governments toy, if parties feel treated with disrespect by the government they might join together and produce a majority against the government, forcing it to step down.

Off course some parties would love to see the government step down for whatever reason, these are the opposition parties. In Denmark the opposition parties are left wing parties like socialists and social democrats. So far the opposition parties do not have a majority against the government, but if The Danish People's Party (nationalistic, populistic) for one reason or the other feels mistreated by the government, it might join up with the opposition to force the government to step down.

This is not likely as The Danish People's Party enjoys a great deal of influence on government policies, and Pia Kjærsgaard, leader of The Danish People's Party, tends to agree with Mr Rasmussen on this issue. But still it matters what PM Anders Fogh Rasmussen says about The Danish Peoples Party because his government needs their support to continue in office.

Long story short: When Mr Rasmussen says he disagree with the actions of the youth wing of The Danish People's Party he is critizising his supporters, not the opposition.

In Tehran, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said those who insulted the prophet were "low lifes," cevoid [sic] of human values, the student news agency ISNA reported.

Well, I'm A Nut Job should know what he's talking about here-he and his associates are probably the lowest of low lifes and certainly lacking in any human values.

Sorry, but I rather enjoyed the cartoons. Well, actually, I'm not sorry at all.

americaningermany wrote: " Will we also be able to view your movie?"

Yes. I have some american contacts and we're producing the movie at a secret location. Next year it will shown to the general public.

At the moment I'm anonymous and keeping a low profile to make sure that the movie will be finished. But when it's released to the public next year everybody will know who I am. I hope the movie will have the desired effect of A, Teaching the western world about Mohammad, because many people know next to nothing about him and B, Make it impossible for the muslims to conceal the true character of the founder of Islam.

Stay anonymous, and safe, while doing what you can to reap the rewards of your efforts - you've certainly earned it. Once it's done, make it available over the Internet, either as playback movies, or ISO DVD format that people can burn (maybe after buying for a price), PSP memory cards, and a variety of other distribution formats. Let it spread like wildfire. Once enough people have seen it - even though it may not be at a theater or on TV, you'd have sent through your message - without attracting the publicity that gets a bullseye on you.

nterestingly, the MSN is not carrying this story. Could it be that they are suppressing it, to protect the islamic world from giving itself another black eye? Is Al-Jeezera carrying this story? I bet not. Posted by: August22

What do you expect of corporate media (MSM), after all it's survivability and income is based on advertising and profits..in other words my friend, despite the lies of Coulter and Limpballs) the MSM is CONSERVATIVE, RIGHT WING and toadies to the Corporate elite and the Evangelics (who are tools of and used by the Corporate elite) and yes Al Jazeera is carrying it or something related to it

Muslim leaders in Denmark said they will not take action against members of an anti-immigration party who drew cartoons mocking Islam's prophet Muhammad, while condemning their actions.

“Vlaams Belang has won a lot of seats in the Belgium election. They believe that Islam should be de-legitimised as a religion.”

That’s a possible solution. If one western country can manage to get the violence-inciting Koran and its Islam to be declared a dangerous imported cult with no legitimacy in the country then other western nations can follow. Finally this 7th century pirate cult can be outlawed in the West. This should someday happen in the USA even if it takes a constitutional amendment by popular will. I believe this can happen when enough people get fed up enough with all the threats & violence from this death cult.

These Young people of the DPP have the right idea according to Ali Sina; ridicule must be used against a phoney ideology and its creator just as Chaplin tried to use it against Hitler.
