I have to agree with Mark Alexander in that it's the Dutch politicians, not the Dutch citizens themselves. Malappuram: During the month of Ramadan in Malappuram district of Kerala, the distribution of mid-day meals at various LP and UP schools were stopped.
Since the majority of the students of this district are from the Muslim community and are fasting, the poor Hindu children are denied their mid-day meals under the guise of this religious practice.
There are 223 UP schools and 477 LP schools under the aided private schools section and 12 UP schools and 350 LP schools under govt schools in this district. Even though the govt has appointed monitoring officers to see that mid-day meals are distributed in a fair manner, as far as the denial of mid-day meals distribution during Ramadan are concerned, these officers are not taking any stern action against defaulting schools. The finance of this scheme is made available by the govt through Panchayat officers and AEO officers. Every school has a PTA committee under the guidance of the head master of the school. But it is this very same committee who works hard in glove with the mullahs to deny mid-day meals to the down-trodden Hindu children.
During the start of the academic year, the school who are supposed to distribute meals to the kids apply to the AEO office for finance and this money which is used for purchasing the food stuff and pay wages to the cooks. After the collecting money from the govt, these schools are denying mid-day meals to the poor starving Hindu children. We have to remember that in the name of religious fasting, the poor down-trodden, socially and financially backward Hindu children are being punished by making them compulsorily fast during the month of Ramadan.

Malappuram: A Hindu old man who drank a glass of water during Ramadan fasting was physically assaulted by a Muslim. This incident happen at Perinthalmana in Malappuram district.
The old man,was waiting for bus at Thazekode, when he felt thirsty and went to the nearby home of a Hindu to quench his thirst.A Muslim on seeing this shouted at the old man and asked why he was drinking water in public and started hitting him.

Erhm, the Dutch landed for the first time in 1600 on Japanese soil. Rangaku (the study of western sciences and language, particularly Dutch) was quite popular in the 17th, 18th and partially 19th century.
The closure of foreign trade was from 1641 - 1853 and only the Dutch were allowed to continue trading through the port of Dejima in Nagasaki.
In 1614 the Tokugawa shogunate disallowed Christian practise and about 3000 were thought to have been murdered, and these were rather based on political and social motives than religious ones. Shinto and buddhism lived side by side. Christianity typically had difficulty accepting other religions side by side in those days. So this gets people from other religions resentful.

And that does not change the fact that christianity was widespread in Japan in beginning of 17th century (thanks to jezuits priests), and was eradicated by japan ruler(s).Any way, their "political" reasons was at least less abominate and more understadable to me than Duches "trade" reasons.
