Jihad Watch reader George has alerted me to this gem from an Amazon review of my new book The Truth About Muhammad:
Author Robert Spencer and the reviewers of The Truth About Muhammad: Founder of the World's Most Intolerant Religion are amongst those who have forcibly derailed themselves in the oceans of ignorance from the true knowledge.
When (and how) did they lay the tracks in the oceans of ignorance, anyway?
Jihad Watch: forcibly derailed in the oceans of ignorance from the true knowledge!
I should be used to it by now. It still dumbfounds me, though.
If someone named "Robert Spencer" quotes from a hadith used for centuries in madrassas all over dar-al-islam that Muhammad was respected as a military leader, then he is branded as an ignorant Islamophobe and a racist.
If someone names "Achmed al Durka Durka" says exactly the same thing, then he is lauded as a respected Islamic scholar.
WTF?
Talk about mixed metaphors. LOL. They can't even criticize in a coherent way.
Must be that new secret underwater train Kim Jung-il is working on with Al-Qaeda...
Doctor Bulldog
I rather like being in the "ocean of ignorance". It keeps me clean from Islamaniac filth.
Actually, a train track into the ocean makes as much sense as a plane into a building.
That sort of rhetorical gobbledygook is the domain of the insecure and immature.
Are we sure "Iftikhar Achmed Mehar, Researcher Author" isn't the whiny Australian leftist Antony Loewenstein?
Robert--
The next time you derail my train or trains of thought, you'd better watch out that I don't have a second thought coming, even one of those tiny I-think-I-can-I-think-I-can choo-choos coming down the tracks and with no light at the end of the particular tunnel in question, once I let loose those portable and compendious oceans, the ones that can cry me a river, maybe even the kind of rivers que van a dar en el mar que es el morir, and let's not forget that particular fluvius in question named Anna Livia Plurabelle, the one who's a loud, dirty, boozy girl, and who by a commodius vicus is likely to lead us astray or land us bookishly lands away, with no frigate to take us like a book though there might still be friggin' in the riggin', which is howth the hill we haveth childers everywhere, now don't you know, or should I begin again, Finnegan?
"Forcibly derailed in the oceans of ignorance from the true knowledge"
Reminiscent of but not quite as poetic as "Swept Away by an Unusual Destiny in the Blue Sea of August", I reckon.
Although (my recollection) the 1974 film had a marxist bent, and I was stuck reading the crummy subtitles, it had great cinematography and one of the great titles in the history of film.
Robert: I much prefer this amazon.com review by Leo in Chicago
"This book is a decent read. See the other higher rated reviews. They are reasonably accurate. If you doubt it's conclusions, then I suggest you read newspapers more often. Perhaps travel to India, The Phillipines, Bali, Somalia, Turkey, Israel, Iraq, Afghanistan, London, Russia, Denmark, The Netherlands, Spain, last but not least, visit that hole in the ground in NYC. When you are finished, join one of the many Muslim marches against violence - if you can't find one, then form a march yourself, inviting all willing muslims to participate; see how many will come."
I love the last sentence!
Actually, a train track into the ocean makes as much sense as a plane into a building.

If it's a way to kill infidels then some cukoo is probably working on it at this very moment.
They lie in your face and they smear you any which way they can...
I recently had an internet 'debate' with a Mohammedan poster who claimed he never heard of sira or hadith, that the jiziyah was not discriminatory, jihad doesn't mean 'holy war' and the word 'infdel' is not in the Koran... of course not.
What do they call us? Kufrs, kafirs, mushrikeen, giour and what else? But if we call them anything but 'muslims' the PC-police cracks down (even here on JW/DW) and in spite of all the hatred they spew WE are called 'haters' and that idiot-word "Islamophobic"- always was a sure thing to muzzle criticism.
My personal favorite is 'racism'- as if the frenzied adherents of this perverse ideology were a 'race'- like communism or capitalism? What race is that?
But they are cunning, that much is sure. They are very sly, inventive and more eloquent than GWB! Be prepared and learn how to counter the nonsense they produce...
...and always insist on INTERNMENT & DEPORTATIONS!
The others not drenched in the oceans of ignorance are probably busy with their underwater fire-prevention exercises, such as the imposition of multi-cultural PC values throughout various western institutions.
Robert,
So far, I'm in chapter 6 of your book, and 3 questions came up:
- In chapter 1, in the section Polite fictions are useless, you raise the rhetorical question of While I agree with you that there is no reason to prefer 'polite fictions' to reality, the fact remains that the US would have to wage war against most of the members of that organization, and if they did it by eviscerating their armed forces and not bothering about nation-building a la Afghanistan and Iraq, it could be done. Note that many of these members have a Muslim population of less than 15% (Guyana, Mozambique, Suriname and Cameroon), so if such a war broke out, one would see such states bail out of the OIC before one could way 'Allahu Akbar'. Besides, while you ban those who make genocidal calls, that is one of the logical steps that would have to at least be on the table when it comes to confronting Islam.
- In chapter 3, in the section Arabia before Muhammad, you mention that Question: how exactly does one conclude that what Muhammad did was standard operating procedure in Arabia that preceded him, particularly given the career of Khadijah, which was possible in pre-Islamic Arabia. Also, is it fair to conclude from Aisha's example that child marriages at seven or eight were common?
- While you avoided illustrations, you might have done well to have included a detailed map showing all the major spots in Arabia that were there in Muhammad's life, like Nakhla, al Taif, and other areas surrounding Mecca and Medina that are cited in the book.
Other than that, you did a fine job (of what I've read so far).Oh my. Well after reading that little screed, I am reminded of why some of us are trying to produce this "Handbook for Infidel Debators".
I especially love this part: "I submit that if Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is being projected as the author of the Holy Quran, then these very people would also contend that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is the one, the only and unquestionably the most knowledgeable and highly praiseworthy person ever known; A Scientist: Because Quran describes, in full details, all the rotations and cycles of the Celestial Bodies and The Stars. Only in the very recent past the humanity is learning about this natural phenomenon in spite of the fact that it has been Revealed in the Holy Quran. A Doctor: Because Quran explains and fully defines the conception, the formation and growth of the Fetus till birth. The modern Medical practitioners have realized about this Revelation only after the discovery of X-Rays and Echo Cardiograms within last few decades!"
We're looking to have an instant rebuttal to this kind of stuff (this particular, and quite typical screed would be addressed under section 5.3 "The Koran is Scientific") in our Handbook for Infidel Debators and we're looking for volunteers to help us compile it. It may not be easy to take on one of these topics, but neither is it rocket science. Check out the project here and consider whether you don't have some spare time to lend a hand:
Handbook Introduction
They are very sly, inventive and more eloquent than GWB!
Hey, someone simply in anaphylactic shock is more eloquent than George Bush. And twice as inventive.

-- from a posting above
Monica Vitti played a rich bored Milanese, to comic not bored and boring antonioni-esque effect, and with l'erre moscia to prove it, taking a watery randonnee on her yacht, and Giancarlo Giannini played her deckhand, and the movie illustrated the theme that time and tide wait for no man or woman, especially when that man and that woman happen to be woodbinedly entwined on a photogenic beach, and even more especially if that man is named Burt Lancaster and that woman named Deborah Kerr and they happen to be in "From Here to Eternity," or if that woman is named Monica Vitti, and that man is named Giancarlo Giannini, and they happen to be writhing around on the decuman-soaked sand of "Swept Away."
Why describe this movie as of a "marxist bent"?Surely a book or a movie or a bon mot that makes fun of a certain kind of rich Milanese or New Yorker, or Parisian, or Londoner, or Muscovite, does not thereby become of a "marxist bent." Is the author of the phrase "Radix malorum cupiditas est" of a "Marxist bent"? Mocking swells of any kind -- the foolish stuffed shirts served caviar by Edward Everett Horton in so many American movies from the 1930s, for example -- does not imply a sympathy or support for the economic and political theories of Karl Marx or Lenin or even renegade Kautsky. Mockery should be an equal-opportunity endeavor; those with money should not be exempt.

May God deliver us from educated people like the reviewer. Lots of letters after his name, but follows a land pirate.
To be fair Hugh, Swept Away was a movie where the communist deckhand was the good guy, and the bourgeois yacht owner was the abusive bitch, true to marxist theory. It played well to the large marxist audience in Italy. I didn't see the Madonna version. I enjoyed the original. But there was a message there. Something to do with social inequality. And a sexual fantasy, to boot. But we won't go there.
I love this guy, an ex-muslim comments on the reviewer.
Dear Iftekhar,
Has Columbia University asked you to return your Ph.D. degree yet?
Have you ever thought that you might have been brain washed?
You did not refute any of Mr. Spencer statement.
You gave your rant that clearly coming out of your childhood programming and fervent FAITH. I sympathize with you. You as a Muslim is victim of Islam.
You are your own joke. Your review is nothing but assertion. There is neither any evidence nor any logic in your review.
BTW, I was born and raised as Muslim. My real name is Abdul Rahman. My whole family is still Muslim. I know every genetic code of Muslim. I know Islamic brain. I know every blood cell of Moslem. I live and breathe with them. I am an insider. I left Islam when I understood that Islam is a sick and evil religion. Muslims can fool the gullible West but can't fool us, the Ex-Muslim. We are the insider. We are exposing Islam. Visit www.news.faithfreedom.org
I don't know about the rest of you, but every morning I like to go skinny dipping in the oceans of ignorance. It's a great way to start the day!
Detain, incarcerate, deport. Muslims, out!
For heavens sake, August:
"They are very sly, inventive and more eloquent than GWB!"-
was meant to be a joke! Where is your sense of humor?
I guess it's never too late to make friends with the fine people of Barnes and Noble.
Robert,
I was wondering, if like me, you are tearing your hair out. You should see my bathroom floor!
BTW guys,,if it weren't for some of your posts that help keep me sane, I would be completely bald by now!
Thank you all:))
Jihad Watch: A tsunami in the ocean of ignorance.
Hugh,
My above posting concerning a certain 1970s Italian movie was meant light-heartedly...it was not intended as anything important, and it followed a posting of yours by chance, rather than design.
You certainly have some points: It is not "marxist" to be wary of greed, and "Mockery should be an equal-opportunity endeavor; those with money should not be exempt." But I also agree with August22's (thank you) characterization of the umm...characters, although my recollection is imperfect. The character played by Giancarlo Giannini was explicitly political, with a certain bent, as was the movie.
But the title, I can't forget, is so much nicer than the tortured verbiage produced by that amazon.com reviewer. Is the title as poetic in Italian (Travolti da un insolito destino nell'azzurro mare d'agosto) as in English?
"Author Robert Spencer and the reviewers of The Truth About Muhammad: Founder of the World's Most Intolerant Religion are amongst those who have forcibly derailed themselves in the oceans of ignorance from the true knowledge"
Ignorance from the true knowledge? That sounds like something that is Gnostic. The Gnostics always talk that way about what they called true or secret knowledge. The review itself might have given away further evidence that Mohammed stole his Koran from the Gnostics.
Del: the title is a clear mockery of the kind of romantic purple prose typical of American Harlequin, British Mills & Boon, Italian Liala romances. It is also typical of its author, who loved lengthy and absurd titles. As for its Marxism, it was barely commonplace in Italy in 1974, where everyone was a watered-down Marxist.
Hugh: you missed your vocation. If you had been a stand-up comedian, or written the material for one, you might have beaten Dario Fo and been the first humorous writer to win the Nobel Prize. I don't remember when I last laughed that hard; thank you.
The only ocean of ignorance here is the millions who are deliberately ignoring this book hoping
it goes away quickly like an embarrassing big spot on the end of thier noses.
The truth is undeniable and yes , it hurts.
Where are the riots, protests and burning
embassies over the publication of this book ?
The relative silence speaks volumes for it`s
contents authenticity.
When politicians and religious leaders state that
Islam is a peaceful religion you know they are inherent liars and you have to find out the truth
for yourself.
The truth is all there in Islams most dangerous
enemy , the internet.
But these guys did this before the book was written????

House Passes Flag-Burning Amendment
Wednesday, June 22, 2005
WASHINGTON — The House on Wednesday approved a constitutional amendment that would give Congress the power to ban desecration of the American flag, a measure rejected twice by the Senate in the past decade but expected to get a closer vote this year.
By a 286-130 vote — eight more than needed — House members approved the amendment by the required two-thirds majority after a debate over whether such a ban would run afoul of the Constitution's (search) free-speech protections

Catherine, Dingell on your post who says its okay to burn the US Flag, well lsst summer he was one that could not state who was the bad guy Hizbollah or the Israeli military, yeah he is Democrat from Dearbornstan. my aunt and uncle lived there, and would be rolling in their graves at how low it has become. as for the man with all the degrees who said that Robert's book is "forcibly derailed themselves in the oceans of ignorance from the true knowledge."
remindes me of a movie, "planes, trains and automobiles. Also have you noticed that when any of one of these clowns try to take Robert's book down, they never seem to to pinpoint where he is wrong?
From that review: "It has been claimed that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) did not offer any thing new for the entire mankind, yet as a Humanitarian. . ."
This is the thing that sticks in my craw when it comes to muslims and their Ol' Moe worship. I just cannot wrap my brain around this fawning adoration for Ol' Moe that muslims routinely engage in by rote. To believe that Ol' Moe was a great man and the best example to man of mankind for all time is to be deliberately blind and willfully ignorant of facts and history. But we knew about muslim blindness and ignorance about Ol' Moe already, thanks to those Khartoon Riots (I and II).
Yes, Hugh, let us begin again, finnegan, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay, bringing us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.

There are no reviews of the book on Amazon Uk yet
but it is early days.
It is selling well and they apparently keep
running out of stock , bulk orders to mosques
perhaps and straight into the furnace ?
I have to admit i was surprised they are actually
selling it.
Credit to them.

Think of it as early sensory science. What you see, feel, hear versus what you read or write. Where did all this sooper-secret Gnostic conspiracy stuff come from?Is there an active Gnostic church?
I feel forcibly derailed in the oceans of ignorance from the true knowledge.
Another Lina Wertmuller (odd that Paolo calls her "author" when she was more accurately writer/director) film,
La Fine del mondo nel nostro solito letto in una notte piena di pioggia (1978)
("The End of the World in Our Usual Bed in a Night Full of Rain")
also with Giancarlo Giannini playing yet again a Communist, and a youngish Candice Bergen in very steamy nude scenes together.
More recently (1996): Metalmeccanico e parrucchiera in un turbine di sesso e di politica
("The Blue Collar Worker and the Hairdresser in a Whirl of Sex and Politics")
P.S.: I wouldn't call the writing of Liala "purple prose", but rather of a nicer violet shade.
Paolo --
Thank you.
As for the missed vocations of others, part of the point made obliquely in the post was that though Monica Vitti first became famous as Antonioni's embodiment of ennui and anomie, it was much better for all concerned (the audience, and Monica Vitti herself) when she and her directors discovered her real talent as a comic actress.I am thinking especially of her wonderful performance, with Sordi, in "Polvere di stelle."
As for my own missed vocations, e una cosa tremenda, and no need to discuss it here.
Nothing so far as I can make out, nothing short of divine vision or a new cure for the clap can possibly be worth all that circumambient peripherization.
Darth Batman, I think Huge is suffering from polyglossitis again. But even when he's a-babblin' in tongues, he somehow still manages to make sense. I guess his little ocean-crossing train hasn't fallen off the underwater tracks and foundered in the oceans of ignorance.
Reading Huge is like reading Dr. Seuss...sorta. Let's see.
Oy gevalt...where to start? I don't even think I can diagram any of this.
