Federal Sex Discrimination Commissioner Pru Goward believes the comments are an incitement to crime.
"Young Muslim men who now rape women can cite this in court, can quote this man ... their leader in court," she told the Nine Network.
She wants him to go, but did not make clear whether she wanted to him to leave the country or step down as a leader of the Islamic community.
"It's time we stopped just saying he should apologise. It is time the Islamic community did more then say they were horrified. I think it is time he left," Ms Goward said.
Victorian Liberal backbencher Sophie Mirabella wants the sheik to consider moving back to the Middle East.
"I have a message for Sheik Alhilali: This is Australia, not Iran, and violence and degradation of women is not acceptable," she said.
More senior members of government were also scathing.
"Certainly I think if a religious leader in the Catholic Church or the Anglican Church or in Judaism was to make these sorts of statements, they would be getting a very severe rap over the knuckles, at the very least," Health Minister Tony Abbott told the Nine Network.
"He's wrong. He should be reprimanded and it's up to ordinary, decent Australians to make it clear that he is wrong."
Treasurer Peter Costello urged other Muslims to pull the sheik into line.
"I hope that the moderate Muslim leaders will speak out today and condemn these comments," he told the Seven Network."
Opposition Leader Kim Beazley said the sheik's comments were offensive and should be corrected by the Islamic community.
Not much luck so far: Keysar Trad says earlier in the article that this has all been taken out of context:
President of the Islamic Friendship Council of Australia, Keysar Trad, said the sheik's comments had been misrepresented, although he admitted his analogies could have been better.
"From what I understand, he was talking about the context of encouraging people to abstinence before getting married," Mr Trad said.
"His references to exposed meat etc was a very poor example that was meant to be a reference to both men and women, he wasn't talking about Islamic dress, he wasn't talking about rape."
Oh, really now. From the earlier item:
Sheik Hilali said there were women who "sway suggestively" and wore make-up and immodest dress ... "and then you get a judge without mercy (rahma) and gives you 65 years".
"It's time we stopped just saying he should apologize."

The founder of Islam, Muhammad, took women as captives in battle and established an awful precedence for his Muslim followers.

Sadly, viewing women as chattel remains dominant in Muslim societies throughout the world.
The sheik's associate is claiming the speech was about zina (sex outside of marriage). This is an extremely sneaky statement, because it's 'true' in the islamic sense: there is no such thing as rape, only whether or not a man has rights over a woman. So teenagers gang raped by Lebanese creeps are a problem because a. they tempted the poor boys to zina b. the girls commited zina and should be stoned to death.
This is the only way sharia deals with what we call rape.

AUSTRALIA'S senior Muslim cleric Sheik Taj Aldin al-Hilali has apologised for any offence caused by his comments that immodestly dressed women provoke sexual attacks.
The Australian reported today that, in a sermon delivered last month, Sheik al-Hilali likened scantily clad women to uncovered meat eaten by animals.
"I unreservedly apologise to any woman who is offended by my comments," he said in a statement today.
"I had only intended to protect women's honour, something lost in The Australian presentation of my talk."
Sheik Alhilali has been widely condemned by Muslim and non Muslim groups for the Ramadan sermon he gave in Arabic to 500 worshippers in Sydney.
According to The Australian's translation, he said: "If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside on the street, or in the the garden or in the park, or in the backyard without a cover, and the cats come and eat it ... whose fault is it, the cats or the uncovered meat," he said.
"The uncovered meat is the problem.
"If she was in her room, in her home, in her hijab (Islamic headscarf which covers the hair neck and shoulders), no problem would have occurred."
But the mufti of Australia and New Zealand would not back away from his comments and said he was shocked by the way his sermon was interpreted.
"The Australian front page article reported selected comments from a talk presented one month ago," the sheik said.
"The title was 'Why men were mentioned before women for the crime of theft and woman (sic) before men for the sin of fornication'.
"I would like to unequivocally confirm that the presentation related to religious teachings on modesty and not to go to extremes in enticements, this does not condone rape, I condemn rape and reiterate that this is a capital crime.
"Women in our Australian society have the freedom and right to dress as they choose (while) the duty of man is to avert his glance or walk away.
"If a man falls from grace and commits fornication then if this was consensual, they would be both guilty, but if it was forced, then the man has committed a capital crime.
"Whether a man endorses or not a particular form of dress, any form of harassment of women is unacceptable."
A spokesman for Sheik Alhilali said the backlash and criticism had badly affected him and he had been depressed and confined to bed all day, breathing with the assistance of an oxygen tank.

The imam of Lakemba Mosque, Sheik Taj el-Din Al Hilaly, the Mufti of Australia, has copped a shellacking since arriving in Sydney from Egypt 21 years ago. And with some reason.
He once famously told Muslim students at Sydney University that Jews use "sex and abominable acts of buggery, espionage, treason and economic hoarding to control the world". He has, weeks before September 11, defended suicide bombers. He was almost deported in 1985. In January he was involved in an embarrassing incident with police in Wiley Park after being pulled over for minor traffic matters.
In a lot of ways Sheik Hilaly is his own worst enemy. But what his bad press rarely acknowledges is that he has also been a force for moderation in Sydney's Islamic community.
I think we have proved that the west are nothing but empty suits issueing empty threats.

Australian Federal Police Commissioner Mick Keelty was guest speaker at the South Australian Press Club lunch today.
He said Australians ran the risk of promoting hatred against Muslims, particularly though media coverage.
"If we are not careful I think we are at risk of raising a generation of Australians with bias towards Islam," Mr Keelty said.
"We do risk having bigger problems in the future than what we have had in the past."
While in Adelaide today, Mr Keelty also visited South Australia's Muslim community.
Opposition Leader Kim Beazley said the sheik's comments were offensive and should be corrected by the Islamic community.
He is not a politician. Why should he change views that he holds to be correct ? Why do you think the comments are offensive Mr Beazley ? I doubt many Muslims find them anything other than the truth as they believe it.
You ask them to engage in taqqiya for your satisfaction.............why ? Why should this Muslim Leader be pressured to unsay what he believes to be true ? How does engaging in taqqiya improve the situatiuon for anyone but Mr Beazley ?

Actually, Mr. Sheik, the fault lies with the cats' owner, who is letting them run wild. I like cats. I respect cats. I'm not cat-phobic. In fact, some of my best friends are cats. And I realize only a tiny minority of cats carry dangerous diseases.
However, I have to protect the children. If cats were trespassing in my backyard, I'm afraid I would have to shoot them.

Not only does "Sheik" Hilaly demean women, he also
blasphemes by stating that Christians will end up in Hell - i.e. he rejects the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the Gospel of salvation and eternal life that results from Jesus' sacrifice for our sins. He does so at his peril.

Forget 'evolution', if anything muslim society has IMHO actually 'devolved'. I'm sure that even the Neanderthal men treated their cavewomen far better than how women are treated today in muslim societies.

I was a child in the 1960s, and the women did not go about covered from head to foot if they were Muslims. In fact the Muslim women in my neighbourhood did not go about looking like they only owned glad bags for clothing.
Yes, it is true that the nuns wore such clothing up until the early 70s. In fact there are some orders where the nuns continue to wear the religious habit. We understand the meaning of the religious habit in this context because those nuns have dedicated their lives to God, through a life of prayer and service to others (even if the service is imperfect at times). They did not have their faces covered, and they did not go around wearing suicide belts underneath their habits. On the other hand, they did have large rosary beads ;-)
The rest of the women, my mother, aunts, grandmothers included never went around in so much as a hat when I was growing up. I had to wear a hat to school, but that was a good thing because it protected me from the sun. I used to wear head covering in Church (I owned a few hats). It is practical to wear a hat on a rainy day, rather than carry an umbrella. However, a hat is still not the same as wearing the hijab, or the naqib, chador, and that dumb burkha.
Women never deserved to be raped. They do not ask for that attention, and this is a subject that goes straight to my heart because my cousin Dorn was kidnapped, raped and murdered because she refused to have sex with a man who was not her husband. Janine Balding did not deserve to be raped. She, like the girls attacked by the gangs of Lebanese and Pakistanis, was kidnapped at the railway station, and she suffered all forms of indignities at the hands of her kidnappers and rapists. She did not deserve to be treated with such disrespect.
There is simply no comparison to be made here. The fact of the matter happens to be that males have no right forcing a female to have sex. That is what we call rape. Under such circumstances the man deserves to be charged with rape. A defence of "she asked for it" should never be admissible in the courtroom, and if it is allowed then the jury should have the ability to discern that the rapist is in fact projecting his own self upon the victim even as he sits in the courtroom, i.e. such a defense should be seen as admission of guilt, and the jury should convict.
Not all of the rapes here in Australia are committed by Muslims, but the particular crimes that were committed were very extreme, and they were a premeditated attack upon very young Australian girls. These girls have gone through an horrendous time as a result of what they endured. The girls who came forward were sufficient to obtain a conviction, but I wonder how many other girls were violated by these scum.

No matter how his apologist Keyser Trad tries to cover up and claim that it was something taken out of context, the actual text tells us something that is different. He was justifying the rapes of the Australian girls at the hands of the Bilal Skafe. This is the one, whose own sisters and "fiance" supported him, and claimed that he was innocent. You see, a Muslim cannot be guilty of raping a Kafir because of the inferiority of the Kafir.
Also, it is true that there are some Christian sects where the women wear head scarves. In fact in the case of the Exclusive Brethren the scarves barely cover their heads, so I guess that would leave them fair game according to this way of thinking. Maybe the Mennonites and the Amish might escape a similar fate, but not even nuns in their religious habits are safe from rapist Muslims.
I refer of course to the fact that in Serbia, during the Bosnian war, there were nuns who were raped by the Bosnians (Muslims) and ended up pregnant. The poor things felt that it was necessary to leave the convent because of the shame that had been brought upon them.
So covering up, will not stop these monsters from committing the offense of rape, if the woman is not Muslim.

We have had nothing like the Australian rape cases in the UK. There were a lot of individual rapes by Taxi drivers called Mohammed about 4 years ago. People were begining to notice and suddenly it stopped. Thing is, did they stop doing it or were the press told to stop reporting it?

The "speech" is available online and nowhere does it mention prostitutes, which is one of the lies given as an explanation. The 'out of context' and 'misunderstand' excuse has worn thin.
