October 16 (Compass Direct News) – A Christian high school teacher at Government College in Keffi, in the northern state of Nasarawa, is on trial for blasphemy after he disciplined a Muslim student.Joshua Lai is standing trial at a Magistrate Court 2 in the state capital of Lafia on charges of blasphemy against the prophet of Islam, Muhammad, and for “public incitement, rioting, and mischief.” Following the June 12 incident, Muslim students attacked Christian students and teachers and burned four houses, including Lai’s home....
An English and history teacher at the school, Lai said he was teaching English when a Muslim student in the class, Abdullahi Yusuf, arrived as he was finishing the lesson.
“I asked him where he was coming from when the lesson was already over, and he claimed he was coming from the mosque,” Lai said. “I said he could not be speaking the truth, as the Muslim time for morning prayers was far gone.”
Lai told him that, as a former Muslim, he knew that Muslims pray between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., and that Yusuf had arrived around 9 a.m.
Lai then punished Yusuf according to custom – caning, used in both elementary and high schools in Nigeria – and allowed him into the class.
“I told him that his reasons were not tenable,” Lai said, “and repeatedly told him that there was time for everything, a time to serve God and a time to be in the class – that this is how it should be, or else his parents wouldn’t have sent him to school.”
Later that afternoon, Lai said, he was working on his private property after school hours when a student came and told him that the principal, Musa Gwadabe, wanted to see him. Lai went immediately to the principal’s office, who told him a committee wanted to meet with him.
“I went into the office where the committee was sitting and I discovered they were all my colleagues, teachers in the school,” he said. “They asked me what transpired between me and the Muslim student in the morning, and I told them precisely what took place. They responded by saying that what I told them was exactly the same as what the student said, except on one point – that he said I will flog the prophet Muhammad.”
Lai denied saying this. “I never mentioned the name of Muhammad, so I asked why was this allegation being made? The committee members told me that these Muslim students were dangerous, and I should be careful in the way I handled them.”
The teacher thanked the committee – Islamic teacher Alhaji Jibrin Ahmed, Joseph Baka, Godwin Luka, and two others – and left with the impression that the matter was over.
At about 10 that night, two Christian students went to his house on the school grounds to warn him of Muslim students’ plans to kill him; another Christian student had managed to infiltrate a meeting to learn about the impending attack.
“These two Christian students who came to my house advised me to leave immediately,” he said, “so my son and I had to leave the house that night and were taken in by a Christian family in the town.”
Muslim students burned down his house on the school grounds that night; the rampaging students also demolished his private house, which was still under construction. They also attacked Christian students.
Unbelievable. It must be nice to use "blasphemy" charges against someone when a non-religious offense occurs. I guess Lai is lucky- as an ex-Muslim I'm surprised he was killed long ago for apostasy. Now if Lai produces enough witnesses in his defense and is found innocent does the student get at least another caning? After all, a good Muslim shouldn't lie.

Maybe the school needs to be more selective in allowing certain muslim students to attend class. Apparently he's learned well, thanks to the koran , to lie.
Maybe they could allow muslim children to attend school until the age of jihad...maybe to ten. Just so they can read the word "bomb" when they go to blow themselves up. The girls of course, just need to learn enough language to follow a recipe, since they aren't expected to leave the house (except to bring water and work a garden) after marriage.

It is interesting that the only solution proposed by "The Committee", the Christians students, and the teacher was to run away as his two houses were burned down. No thought of calling the police or getting together a group of non-Muslims to stand up to the Muslim mauraders or expelling the dangerous Muslims from the school. I'm not saying they did the wrong thing, I'm saying it shows that this is a societal problem, not just a few misbehaving students. We should never allow our situation to degrade to this level.
All of the non muslim faculty should walk out, after all they are also threatened. Let the muslims who remain behind come to the slow realization that now no one can teach anything useful to their children. Unless you consider, indoctrination into a world filled with terror and an agonizing death as useful.

These all sound like funny hyperbole except for the fact that each happened and each time the Christian died. Accusing Christians of blasphemy for silly reasons has long been a traditional way of keeping leverage on Christians. In rare instances, the Islamic judge has shown remarkable understanding and thrown out the false charges. Generally, the Christian may be allowed to speak to the court, but his words mean nothing. Upon conviction he is given the choice of converting or dying.
This kid comes to class with an excuse which is the religious equivalent of "the bus was late" (even though other kids who took the same bus are already in class). You probably wouldn't have to be a former Muslim--just have casual contacts with Muslims--to know that this was a lame excuse.

This is also the religious equivalent of the bellicous playground taunt "I heard you called my Momma a name". Not only does the accuser realize that it's a lie, but it isn't really even meant to deceive in most cases--just to serve as an excuse for violence.

I am also opposed to corporal punishment in the schools, but I don't think that's the main issue here. My dad went to a school where kids got paddled by the principal--not great, but at least the kids didn't try to have him killed by the community in retaliation.
Corporal punishment is also common in Islamic schools. I think the student is getting revenge because he can, against a teacher in a vunerable position--not just a non-Muslim, but a former Muslim.
What I find even more concerning than the vindictive, lying kid is the reaction of the school's Muslim principal and teachers. They must know (or at least strongly suspect) that the accusation is false, but are still willing to use it to violently target the Christian teacher and students.

However, one factor that explains the West's current inability to analyze, condemn and take rational actions against the problem of Islam is the much larger Western arc of pathological self-criticism, part and parcel with the dismantling of Western Colonialism and the rise of PC multiculturalism: the symptom of this Western pathology, by which most Westerners are now incapable of defending my sentence -- "The West is superior to the Third World" -- is the same symptom that prevents the West from defending itself against the worst beast of the Third World, Islam.
