Reference your comments "We Catholics aren't protestants" (implication being cowardly protestants). As someone who grew up Roman Catholic before becoming evangelical protestant I can tell you: both sides have sniveling cowards. And both sides have men of courage.

A large sector of Roman Catholicism takes the ridiculous position that almost nothing justifies war. They take the "just war" theory to the ultimate extremes and against the teachings of Jesus and the Apostles. Jesus praised the centurion and never condemned military service. His teachings about turning the other cheek were on the personal level. It was about interpersonal dealings and not defense of others (including nation). In matters of the state, Christians were to "give unto Caesar" including military service. The State was given the power of the sword for executions and defense.

On the other hand: Liberal Protestantism has generally given up on any kind of anchor in the traditional Protestant authority: Sola Scriptura (Scripture alone). Sola Scriptura was a battle cry of the Protestant reformation and the reason I became Protestant. The other battle cries were: Solus Christus (Christ alone), Sola Gratia (grace alone), Soli Deo Gloria (to God alone be the glory), and Sola Fide (Faith alone). Liberal Protestants generally stand for nothing. In standing for nothing, their faith is extremely weak. Weak faith means little courage. On all the "hot" issue, they cave. Muslims laugh at these so-called Christians.

Evangelical protestants are the protestant true believers. There are some in the major denominations, mostly among the Southern Baptists and independent Churches, the key is their belief in scriptural authority as the Word of God. They don't pick and choose not to believe in concepts like eternal Hell.

As an evangelical protestant, I have more in common with "true believers" in the Roman Catholic Church. I may disagree with Church doctrine and tradition being equal authority with scripture (the Church has made big non-scriptural mistakes throughout history). However, I can respect the courage and faith of a Roman Catholic who stands behind the Pope and holds to absolutes. Ditto with Jews who have true faith and not anti-Israel secular Jews. The "true believers" have courage and faith. They will stop Islam.

True believers, Roman Catholic and Evangelical Protestant, will be road block to Islam. Islam has no respect for Liberal Protestantism or Liberal Catholicism. It sees the West as having no faith and therefore no courage. Those who believe in nothing are ripe for becoming dhimmis and eventually Muslim.

I am a protestant; I disagree with Catholic polemics in many theolgoical areas as do all protestants; but if this so-called fatwa is carried out, you can bet there will be a lot of angry protestants that may actually get the MUD folks before you do.

Why?

Because such an act will not be seen as an attack on Catholics alone; it will be preceived as an attack on all of Christianity.

choc, do you think Christianity is dominated by whites?! Most African-Americans are very devout Christians, as well as Hispanics. Look at Mexico; it is a predominately Catholic nation, so are the countries of Central and South America. There are millions of non-white Christians in all of these places.

Where in the world did you get the idea that Christianity is a "white" religion? Unlike islam and muslims, you have nothing to fear from Christianity or Christians but I think you already know that.

The Crusaders were far from home, their supplies, sometimes split by differing personalities, and sometimes led astray by greed. I've sometime wondered if the Pope was subtly offering himself up as sacrificial lamb in this conflict (war). If he were to be assassinated by a Muslim, it might really wake up the rest of the world to the true dept of what is going on. Europe is so ready to accomodate and appease, so nonconfrontational. Choc - perhaps you should read some history. You will find that slavery was fought and finally abolished by Christian white people - something that no other culture since the beginning of time has ever even considered, let alone carried out.

Every day in Iraq and elsewhere in the world, bodies are found showing signs of torture, the bodies are usually bound, blindfolded and shot in the head (some are headless). These executions are perpertrated by Muslims against those who refuse to submit to the violent demands of the Muslims. These executions are meant to terrorized the people into submission. The fact that you see about 50 executions a day at the hands of the Muslims cleary indicates their terroristic tactics are not working.
Sectarian violence is seen as revenge against those who are attempting to instill fear.

The terrorists are becoming more desparate as each day goes by. They are losing and they know it. They strive for shock value and maximum death. You will notice they attack buses, trains, airplanes, churches, hospitals, restaurants, discos, and just about anything where unarmed civilians gather.

Such attacks are having a negative effect, the attacks are actually re-enforcing the will to resist the terrorists. It is becoming easier for the world to accept killing Muslims as the correct action to take.

Muslims worldwide have reason to fear their neighbors.

If the Pope goes to Turkey and is hurt, I bet this would make Turkey a shoo-in for EU membership.

Muslim victimhood thrives while they simultaneously threaten to murder -- the beat goes on.

I sure hope the Holy Father goes to Turkey. I think he will. He's got the two things we need so badly: a clear understanding in his sharp mind and the courage in his heart.

It makes me happy to think he's going to walk right into Turkey and go about his business.

I am glad the Pope spoke out about Muslim violence. History proves that he is right. They bring up the Crusades yet they were formed to take back the Holy Land which the Muslims conquered through the sword. We cannot deny history. The Battle of Lepanto in l571 was another instance where the Muslims tried taking over Europe and Pope Pius V called a Crusade to thwart their efforts. Only Spain and Italy responded yet the Crusade was successful even though the Christian fleets were outnumbered.

There is a 17th century saint who prophesied that the Muslims would try to take over Europe again yet they would be defeated and eventually convert to Catholicism through the hand of the Blessed Mother. The Blessed Mother, who the Muslims venerate, appeared at Fatima Portugal in l917 and all the prophecies she gave have come to pass. God chose to send her there for a reason. Fatima was Mohammed's daughter and prophecies say they will be converted to Christianity through the intercession of "The Woman Clothed with the Sun."

I know many beautiful Muslim people, but those who follow the likes of Osama are the devil's advocates spreading terror and fear. Christ called us to forgive others, but he did not call us to beat around the bush and not to call a spade a spade.
