Appeasement never works, you say? The optimists in Washington seem to think there's a first time for everything. Not only is the US planning to sell Airbus parts to Iran to shore up its aging fleet of passenger aircraft, but that offer was a significant component of the incentives package (full text available here) to which Iran still hasn't given a straight answer:
Civil aviation cooperation, including the possible removal of restrictions on US and European manufacturers, from exporting civil aircraft to Iran, thereby widening the prospect of Iran renewing its fleet of civil airlines.
By doing so, the US both rewards Iran's behavior thus far on the nuclear issue, and gives into blackmail over the prospect that Iran might not remove unsafe aircraft from service, and that in the event of a disaster, the bad PR would squander those all-important "hearts and minds" around the globe, spontaneously generating more "extremists."
But they hate us already, you say? Maybe this time, this concession, will do the trick. Or the next one, hopefully. You see, it's all about "hope," this "War on Terror."
Stupid, stupid, stupid. When will we learn never to deal with these mad mullahs? Everytime the US has dealt with the Islamaniac Republic nothing but trouble resulted. Besides, these nuts are the enemy- have we become so stupid to now help the enemy? Never mind, I know the answer to that question. Time for me to go to sleep now. Someone wake me when the ayatollahs are in the White House.
Maybe then Iran can renew direct flights to the US. Maybe then they can pop off an EMP from +30K feet over some of our most densely populated areas.
Airbus? Airbus is a European consortium. Is this a US deal, or a UN deal? The US can not sell Airbus parts.
Gee, maybe we should give them an autographed basketball, like the one Madam Albright gave to Kim Jung-il so that he wouldn't develop nuclear weapons...

The strongest deterent we can give Iran is to kick North Korea's ass. And I just don't see that coming from this Whitehouse. All they want to do is stand around advocating some position that the perpatraitor refuses to co-operate with. And in the face of failure just blame it all on the Clinton administration. Sure that will solve the problem , just blame it all on Clinton.
As North Korea goes , so goes Iran. After the mushroom cloud let off North of the DMZ , things look even more bleak on the Iranian front.
Make no mistake about it , China is undermining our efforts to pressure North Korea. Likewise so are Saudia Arabia and Pakistan in our present effort to wipe out Islamic terrorist organisations. What we can and cannot do to protect ourselves is to some degree being dictated to us by allies of our enemy. The same enemy sworn to kill as many of us as possible.

How does a disaster on an Iranian-run airline generate bad PR for the US? This new math confuses me.
Airbus? Airbus is a European consortium. Is this a US deal, or a UN deal? The US can not sell Airbus parts.
And US companies cannot sell to Iran...
You buy an airplane seperate from the engines. Pratt and Whitney has cut some kind of deal with the government to sell engines to Iran via Airbus. No campaign contributions at all for sure (Lieberman).
If Rice and/or Bush had any brains and/or stones, they would realize the bargaining chip that they had achieved by equipping Airbuses with American engines.
But, alas, it feels better to make people safer. You can't be too careful you know.
More business as usual from the Bush administration and the anti-American globalists in Washington, DC.
I swear, American business elites would sell out their own mothers if it meant a quick buck or two.
Can you say, T-R-E-A-S-O-N ???
Bush is selling us out! It is no doubt some group of Airline manufactures who got together and made a donation to G.W. and his wonderful party to open up the restrictions. So he did. His party (Fake Republicans) and the opposition party (Dems) are both in it too. What a sad joke and perhaps a group of smart americans can change this (hint hint). Our lives and the future our nation is at stake and somehow he finds ways to make deals with the enemy.
Treason.

Dam you beat me to it...
But I agree! How is this any different then Taliban Johnny in jail somewhere. Its the same argument. Bush is giving aid and comfort to the enemy.
This makes the Dubai ports deal look simply innocent. There is no amount of trade, concessions to Iran, or any amount of "nice" talk that will make the muslims like us. This will never win hearts and minds. I had a recent response from one of my senators, Cornyn (R-Texas), when I complained to him about the administration giving Lebanon 230 billion dollars to rebuild. He said that it was to win hearts and minds. Somehow, I think the Hezbollah are just rolling on the floor laughing at this. Instead of winning hearts and minds we should be doing everything in our power to cripple the Iranian economy and take away their ability to wage war. We need a crash program on the order of the Manhattan Project to develop an alternative to oil. We need to stop trade with all muslim nations. They cannot feed themselves. They have no ability to develop or MAINTAIN complex equipment so we should stop our people from working and teaching there. If they want to return to the seventh century then lets help them, by all means. It won't take long if we quit exporting food and technology and experts to run it.
stupidity knows no bounds in DC............
Correction; the engines may have been made by GE. The brains and stones comment remains relevant.

That's all that matters today; globalism, consumerism, trade, cheap labor, outsourcing, and making America dependent on other countries for almost everything we use. We used to manufacture everything we needed to survive, plus we provided the rest of the world with much of what they needed. Look at us now. Our biggest exports are empty containers. Farmers are paid not to plant. Only huge, corporate agricultural conglomerates are supported by the government.
Treason doesn't even begin to describe what these elitist bastards are doing to this country. We need a new word in our lexicon, a word for the wanton destruction of the greatest nation on earth by its own putative "leaders."

Very funny, and true. If a European-manufactured, Iranian-run airplane crashes, who takes the blame? The U.S., of course, and their puppet-masters the Joooooos.
Last time I cked airbus was french??
And they are in big trouble and loose-ing contracts right and left does not suprise me that the French and the big croprats would screw the people ??
With week republicains like hegal and rinos like mccain why would you think the democrats would be better under cliton we have india and pakistan and now n korea with nuks

Super-traitors, uber-traitors, exalto-traitors, nation-destroyers, Quislings, Petainers...
Hmmm... it is getting late and none of these are near good enough, can't think any more tonight. Dante's Inferno has some potential source material. I will try to follow up - you are definitely right Susanp - we need a new word for these vermin.
I can see it now: an old US resurrected 707 with its 2 nukes making an emergency stop at Haifa airport. Oops ..what a tragic mistake..wrong button.
Let them buy russian planes. They have the money and these do not need lack of spare parts or pilot error to fall out of the sky.
Sudeten Spare Parts anyone?
Nostradamus...the NKs have a very big army and it proved to be NO pushover in the Korean war.
Admittedly their economy is on its knees but they will still fight to the end and do not care about civilian casualties.. Unless China intervenes against them a war with NK is very dangerous for the west.
I think that we should fight one war at a time and right now we have the war vs Islam although many US leaders do not seem to be aware of it just yet.

Terrorism In Early America
The U.S. Wages War Against The Barbary
States To End International Blackmail and Terrorism
By Thomas Jewett
President George Washington tried to reach an agreement with the Barbary States but with little success. His agents, one of whom was John Paul Jones, had diplomatic doors slammed in their faces.
Washington's ambassadors in Europe worked to free Americans enslaved in Barbary dungeons, but John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson were ridiculed.
In 1785, the exasperated Jefferson suggested that war was the only solution. His mind was "absolutely suspended between indignation and impotence." Jefferson declared that tribute was "money thrown away" and that the most convincing argument that these outlaws would understand was gunpowder and shot. The future president proposed a multi-national effort between European powers and America that would in effect economically blockade North Africa and ultimately provide for a multi-national military force to combat pirate terrorism. The European powers chose to continue paying tribute to the Barbary States (Irwin, 1970).
THIS IS A MUST READ AND PASS ON NOT MUCH HAS CHANGED TODAY WE ARE STILL PAYING A DIMMI TAX AND ALL THE PLAYERS ARE THE SAME??
well l can smell the State Department is this move, l am hoping those parts are defective.
That is just the tip of the iceberg. The same thing goes on in N.Korea. And it includes nuke tech and materials.

It's just an extension of a pattern that goes back at least 100 years. The internationalist elitists at the top of the pyramid promoted and funded the Bolshevik revolution(and Stalin's "5 Year Plans") and the Nazis too.
It's all well documented. "Appeasement" is not the correct word for it(it infers fear or being naive/stupid, and it appeals to our own conceitedness). The multinational corporations are the operational devices of the currency and credit cartel, who in effect run the world behind the scenes.
Inexplicable. It's 'arms for hostages' all over again.
Somebody please give these guys in history a WWII history lesson!! Chamberlin and peace-in-our-time DID NOT work!!! Will it take a world-wide holocaust for these idiots to wake the heck up??!!
Someone forgot to tell the good folks supposedly representing us Americans in the Beltway swamp that Islam explicitly prohibits Muslims from dealing with unbelievers honestly--under any and all circumstances.
In this case, our Washingtonian idiots seem to be blissfully unaware that Americans are unbelievers in the eyes of the Iranian mullahs and that the Kuran's religious doctrine demands they to lie to us--deals or no deals. Can it be that US government officials really think they are going to make a viable deal with the Iranian mullahs (under the condition that Iran will stop conspiring to construct and make use of the A-bomb) if the American government provides a little lucre to grease the wheels of this (non-existant) peace-making package with Iran??
What of course is going to happen if US officials really think that is that Iran will take the incentive package and then lie about shelving its plans for jihad warfare, and THEN attack Israel, the USA and elsewhere and accelerate jihad warfare around the planet to Islamize everything and everyplace they can get their hot little AK-47s into (which by the way includes America).
Now, it MAY be that Washington is doing this for protocal and to show that it is being a good global citizen. But, then again, the Bush foreign policy grunt squad MAY be that naive--but let's hope not.
If iran flys passengers on a aircraft that is unsafe to fly, the fault is owned by iran.
And, during the cold war, we had a aircraft that made a emergency landing in russian held airspace. Withen three-four months, they had taken apart the entire airplane, reverse enginered the parts, and then rebuilt the entire airplane from the tooling they made. Then we got our airplane back.
And iran can't make a part for a plane? And they want nuclear power?
-Islofob IS-1,
I believe the plane you mentioned was a B-29 Superfortress. When I was a kid, I saw a picture of one of their copies (not realizing at that moment that it was a copy) and thought it rather peculiar that an aircraft that I knew was American had a Soviet red star emblazoned on its vertical stabilizer.
If I do recall correctly( always a risk) 3 B29s crashlanded in the USSR but none were returned while a 4th crashed but was a total writoff
The first Tupolev Tu4 flew in 1946 or 7 and it was a total reverse engineered copy of the B29 and it caused a major panic in the USA as it could reach the US.
While it had major teething problems and was never used strategically the time spent upon was not wasted as it was used in the design of teh famoue Tupolev Bear LR reconnaisance aircraft
Eisenhund;
Right you are ,Thank you. The memory has been getting a workout here the last day or two, and knew it happened but did not remember the plane. It was new at the time, and military.
The point is, we are not the only ones who could give them parts, it is not our fault they fly planes that should be grounded.
MisIslamist;
You may be right, that may be somthing that was part of that history. Eisenhund stated the event that the memory recalled, in all the fog the years bring with them. The B-29 was new at the time it landed in Russia. That is what I recall.
