Tax-exempt jihad

A look into how the jihad is financed through Islamic charitable giving -- the zakat obligation. "Jihadists and Jews" by Rachel Ehrenfeld and Alyssa A. Lappen in the Washington Times:

Democratic strategist and former Michael Dukakis campaign manager Susan Estrich, and the former American Civil Liberties Union president in Massachusetts, Harvey Silvergate, recently joined the attorneys representing two alleged Boston al Qaeda funders.

Emadeddin Z. Muntasser and Muhammed Mubayyid face charges in U.S. District Court of Massachusetts for the soliciting and expenditure "of funds to support and promote the mujahideen and jihad, including the distribution of pro-jihad publications." Their Care International "charity," a now-defunct Boston-based al Qaeda front organization, published, among other things, the English version by al Qaeda co-founder Abdullah Azzam of "Join the Caravan," which states: "[t]he obligation of Jihad today remains [individually required] until the last piece of land, which was in the hand of the Muslims, but has been occupied by disbelievers, is liberated."

In their Oct. 5 request for a dismissal, the defendants effectively -- and unwittingly -- explain all the reasons why the federal government should outlaw Islamic charitable giving in the United States.

In their motion, attorneys Mrs. Estrich, Malick Ghachem, Norman Zalkind and Elizabeth Lunt, argue that the defendants merely exercised their religious freedom and obligation to give "zakat" (Islamic charity).

Their motion cites Chapter 9, verse 60 of the Koran, which describes "those entitled to receive zakat." According to the definition of zakat in The Encyclopedia of Islam, "category 7" of eligible recipients are "volunteers engaged in jihad" for whom the zakat cover "living expenses and the expenses of their military service (animals, weapons)."

Incredibly, the suspects' attorneys also argue that such charitable giving, to support the jihad and mujahideen, is rightfully tax-exempt under U.S. constitutional protection of religious freedom. Moreover, they compare their support of Islam's "holy war" to the Jewish National Fund (JNF) appeals for tax-deductible "donations to finance the purchase of bulletproof vests, helmets and firetrucks in connection with the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict."

Equating the supply of bulletproof vests to defend Israeli civilians from Hezbollah's jihad with the funding of weapons and martyrs (holy warriors) for the jihad is preposterous. The JNF does not promote religiosity. Rather, it was incorporated in the United States in 1926 to develop the ancient Jewish homeland and to maintain and encourage the connection of the Jewish people to it. In contrast, Care was established to promote and advance al Qaeda's version of Islam.

Messrs. Muntasser and Mubayyid, the respective founder and treasurer of Care International, were indicted on May 11, 2005, for lying about the true nature of their organization and their charitable, tax-exempt activities. They now claim that their fund-raising from 1993 to 1996 conformed to the "teachings of an Abrahamic faith." Moreover, they claim, their activities correspond to those that "other 501(c)(3) religious groups conduct on a regular basis."

How hard would it be to brand these "charities" as terrorist fronts? Of course, branding Islam as a cult rather than a legit religion would be nice but unlikely. Most people know that these charities are basically jihad banks so why not close them down? No wonder the fight never ends!

Democratic strategist and former Michael Dukakis campaign manager Susan Estrich,
notice to US voters upcoming elections, which side the Democrats are on. all muslilm charities are nothing more than terrorist organizations and must be shut down and their owners sent back to islamstan countries.

Geez... I didn't know that Catholic Charities was the same as terrorist funding fronts. I say its time we start to vacate the public schools, because obviously they are not teaching anything remotely coming close to intelligent thinking, and advocate effective home schooling before we loose another generation to liberal ideas gone a-muck!

Until such time that Islam is designated to be an organized crime ring and not a religion, we're in trouble.

We are in trouble. Islam is no religion; Islam is a world takeover cult.

This could be a good thing.
Just imagane being a jouror on this trial??

The mask comes off. When I first learned about monies from Islamic Charities going to terrorist organizations some years ago, I was appalled.

As disturbed as i was, though, I had assummed that this represented a *misuse* of funds, rather akin to Mafia money laundering. It was only gradually that I began to realize that many Muslims considered the funneling of Zakat to fund Jihad to be a *legitimate use*.

If you read the Koran it becomes abundantly clear that along with aiding the poor and travelers in need, that funding Jihad, the "cause of God", is a Muslim *duty*. Muslims are not only urged to freely give for the cause of Jihad in the Koran, they are threatened with the fires of Hell if they do not do so.

"The mask comes off."

Exactly my thoughts. "Going for broke" also comes to mind.

Not only is the umma following the Qur'an, but also the Sunnah of the Prophet who died with few possessions, having exhausted them in the cause of jihad.

Look around you. Do you see American Muslims at the theater, restaurants, etc. (even allowing for halal cuisine)? Fancy neighborhoods, fancy cars. I don't where I live. I see them at the discount warehouses and discount stores, occasionally see them eating haram at the cheap buffets. This despite their making above the mean income.

This excess income I presume goes to this form of "zakat".

I'm sure any juror-selection process will weed out any JW/DW readers in the first phase. I can't imagine any jury accepting the argument that we have to allow the funding of our own murders, but I couldn't imagine any jury accepting "If the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit" either. We'll see if this jury is a broad strata of society.

Oh, and good to hear from you again, Catherine.
