A year after the publication of a damning report into Islamic radicalisation among students, Britain's universities have been accused of burying their heads in the sand.Professor Anthony Glees says many vice-chancellors are still failing to confront the issue.
His claim comes 12 months after he named 24 universities where he said extremist groups had been detected.
Sky News' Home Affairs correspondent Rachel Amatt spoke to student Shiraz Maher who was recruited to a radical group at Leeds University.
The group's aim is to create an Islamic state in Britain
"One of the things we used to do is organise a dinner for all the new students - spread the members out - steer conversation to the core Hizb ut Tahrir ideology, foreign policy," he said.
"Over the course of dinner we would identify students susceptible to the party's message - they would be closely targeted and followed up in an attempt to recruit."
Maher recently rejected the message of jihad preached by Hizb ut Tahrir. But he offers an alarming insight into the way Islamic radicals operate.
"When they first arrive in the first few weeks what they seek to do is endear themselves to first year students - offer the use of a car, build a strong relationship - essentially one of dependence," he added.

How many people have seen this film. Is it as many as 5% of the people who saw "Fahrenheit 9-11?" Will it ever receive an oscar nomination even though it was a better film than "Fahrenheit 9-11?"
Since Universities are doing a lot to undermine the security of the West and destroy the freedom of the world perhaps a viewing of “Obsession: Radical Islam’s war against the West” should be required viewing before anyone is allowed to teach at university level. The same goes for the administrators.
We have to wake them up from their politically- correct slumber.
These groups must be weeded out by law inforcement,MI-6, Etc. from the University systems if the vice chancellors, and university presidents are not willing to confront them. Clearly they are working to undermine the foundations of the British in anyway they possibly can. Don't let the "head in sand" professors make the ridiculous arguments that this is just the liberal diversity that goes on in everyday campus life. This is not about being tolerate of others views, this is as dangerous as the recruitment of the young heads of mush that are being recruited into Al-Qaeda.

With all those Muslim states already out there (none of which are poised to be a member of the First World anytime soon) why must we have yet another one? Simple-jealousy. They would rather drag the West into their muck and mire than build a nation worthy of respect instead of contempt. They can't do anything right so they're enraged that others are successful. So far, they've made a lot of headway in tring to turn the West into a bunch of Third Worlders.
As for Islamaniacs trying to recruit students: it's a hand in glove combo. Kids that age are often confused and rebellious. Islamaniacs are great at rioting and they're great at filling mushy headed people with all kinds of dangerous garbage in an effort to get their dirty deeds done. This is why immigration and visa control is so important. How hard is that for politicians to comprehend?

It's chaired by Melvyn Bragg and will doubtless be well-spiced with political correctness. I'm not sure in the current climate whether two obvious questions - (1) looked at from the long perspective is Averroes really of that much importance? and (2) how much of a "Muslim" was this "Muslim philosopher" anyway? - will get asked. But I guess the programme won't be too intellectually lightweight: the panel does include the former Master of Balliol.

About sixty/seventy years ago Western Nations were at each others' throats and the fighting was more ferocious and more technologically advanced and mechanized than anything ever seen before. There was no compunction about targeting civilian populations nor any talk of "collateral damage".

Chinese have complained to me that the US government leans on their country to be nicer to the moslems in West China and on the day of 9/11 one of them said to me [pointing at the smoldering rubble]: "America always takes side of moslem. America complain (sic) China be nice to moslem. Now they see moslem not good people." Too bad that noone has heeded her simple but so eloquent words. How many times have I seen news reports here in the USA or when I was back in Germany .. news reports slanted against Russia when dealing with Chechnya. Isn't that Russian's business and not something we should be involved in?! Ought we not to be GLAD that the Russians are dealing with the muftis as needs to be done - with a heavy iron fist!

They are everywhere in England. Not just the universities, but in the police, in schools for young children and in my local sports clubs (i live in east london.) 'Paki gangs' own the streets, The Cs crews are fighting back on the street, but they outnumber us.
Does any of this surprise me? The university campus is the place with the most ferocious anti-American views in the world. Guest speakers at university include the likes of the treacherous Galloway. Recently, I saw students brandishing placards and handing out leaflets on a campus denouncing Bush as a war criminal (presumably none of them had heard of Tiananmen Square where the Politburo ordered the massacre of 3,000 Chinese students in 1989 for the 'crime' of wanting democracy). Not one placard denounced the likes of Ahmadinejad or Hizbollah. Not one condemned the genocide of Darfur, and the only people who get a good name are those whose cherished desire is to destroy us. The things I see all too often like this make me think our struggle for survival is looking increasingly like a hopeless one.

This is old news. I left university years ago and it was happening then. Although must say that it has got worse. One of my nephews recently told me that they even have muslimas grooming non-muslim girls, especially white, and fixing them up with muslim boyfriends. Gradually a lot of pressure put upon these girls to "go out" with muslim boyfriends and a few have actually (stupidly) got pregnent.
Each and every british university has some sort of muslim society who is then affiliated to the larger islamic organisations in the country with overseas affiliations.
The trend at these Unis is to recruit more and more "whites" to joint them in their protest marches (all expenses paid) and our gullible students are gladly joining them in their "struggles". Witness the current spate of marches in London and you will see a lot of these white (mainly women students) joining out and out jihadis in their protests.
Saudi money is used very well here instead of the homeless of Pakistani earthquake disastaer victims and other destitute muslims around the world.

This does have a silver lining of a sort, although a costly one. Much like our own liberal elite’s, your politicians probably have college age children or grandchildren. After those same little darlings become victims of islam they will wake up. Even a politician is smart enough to realize the guy who just kicked in their teeth is violent (after he loses the teeth). Your political elite are sacrificing their own children and currently are too blind to notice. The great thing about your over paid academics is their money allows their children access to your best schools. Their policies allow those same kids to mingle with the by-products of mad mullahs and irate imams. I hope they enjoy the offspring and violent additions to their genealogical pool.
Much like our military the old guard doesn’t get it but this up and coming generation will witness it firsthand and when they are in power things will change. Sacrificing a few liberal politicians and their future families is a small price to pay.

Same here in the States. Every since the Iraq War I've seen Bush is a War Criminal leaflets and other similar propaganda published on a daily basis.
In Preston, Lancashire this week a battle erupted outside a Mosque that involved a large number of White and Afro Caribbean youths pitched against some two hundred Muslims who were by all reports protecting the Mosque from the rioting group. This pitch battle lasted for four hours.
Furthermore a fight broke out recently on the Callon estate in Preston between White and Muslim youths after a young Muslim was stabbed on the street. Reports suggest the mass fight that resulted involved baseball bats.
In America a group of protesters boycott a Mosque and burn an effigy of Usama and the Muslims shout a bit.
I am not a great fan of civil violence and I agree that this battling is degrading us to the standard of the third world. I lived in Preston for a long time and many of my friends work there.
But the Muslim leaders are to blame for this violence. If they denounced terrorism without reserve and asked the Muslim community to live as integrated as the Hindu or Jewish communities do then the problems would end to a great extent.
Muslim pride will be the downfall of Islam in Britain. And the slow breeding of Islamic influence is already under threat half a century before it could be useful.

I met a group of young Christians outside the market I shop at. They had guitars and a drum and one of them was handing out leaflets. I was passed one of these leaflets and it said that Atheists will live a life in hell. I as an Atheist felt like shoving the leaflet into a guitar and beating the leaflet giver over the head with it. Instead I threw it into the bin.
I found there message offensive but I ignored it. My life goes on regardless of them.
I didn’t burn effigies of young Christians, I didn’t shoot anybody. So why should I feel for people who think that their religion makes them different? They are no better than me or you whether they like it or not.
Muhammed Ali is closer to God than Allah is as far as I am concerned. He was human and so much more, arrogant yes, but he has inspired so many young men to do well. I was inspired by his confidence and I will never be Muslim.
I worked in Germany as a mechanic. I tried my hardest to learn the language, I hate raw meat sandwiches and I took part in a fireworks fight on New Years Eve that would never be allowed in Britain. I stood drinking a beer as rockets bounced off the floor around me. At the end of it all we met at the middle of bridge and rejoiced.

It turns out that Bhutto will be on campus for another day or two, to take part in some small-group discussions and possible give another lecture or two to some classes. I don't work there, or live close by, so it's highly doubtful I'll attended anything other than the lecture. And, I may not have the chance to get up and ask any questions in front of an audience. So, I've been thinking of other ways to spread the truth.
I've been meaning to print up some Jihadwatch business cards since returning to the States, and tomorrow is as good a time as ever, considering the opporunity afforded me with this event.
I may print up some specifically designed for women.....what books/websites should I recommend on the card besides Jihadwatch.org and Spencer's books? One's geared towards women's issues with Islam?
Also, I think it would be highly effective if there just so happened (out of the blue... Oh! What a coincidence!) to be a short post (new or old) here on Jihadwatch, that would expose some of the more unsavory, theologically-sanctioned, aspects of women and their place in Islam, and would tell those curious ones which books or websites to read to learn more.
