A British government minister has joined an increasingly bitter debate over the rights of Muslim women to wear face veils in Britain, telling a Sunday newspaper that a teaching assistant should be fired for insisting on wearing one in school.The opposition Conservatives also joined the fray when a top party official accused Muslim leaders of encouraging a "voluntary apartheid" that could help spawn homegrown terrorism....
The Sunday Mirror newspaper quoted Phil Woolas, the government's race and faith minister, as demanding Muslim teaching assistant Aishah Azmi be fired for refusing to remove her veil at work.
"She should be sacked. She has put herself in a position where she can't do her job," Woolas said.
Azmi refused to remove her black veil, which leaves only her eyes visible, in front of male colleagues. She was suspended from her job at the Headfield Church of England School in West Yorkshire, a northern area with a large Muslim population. Junior schools such as Headfield generally teach students at the ages of four to 11.
Azmi, 24, who has two children, said she was willing to remove her veil in class, as long as there were no adult males present.
She has taken her case to an industrial tribunal that is expected to make its decision in a few weeks.
"She is denying the right of children to a full education by insisting that she wears the veil. If she is saying that she won't work with men, she is taking away the right of men to work in school," Woolas was quoted as saying.
"There are limits in a liberal democracy. There are boundaries in a democracy and this is one of them. It's a boundary we can't cross."

I certainly understood her long silences at several points("woops ... caught! ... now what?) and her taqiyya/lies ("Pardon? ... ")!

Let's look at this for what it is, kids. The whole thing is a set up to add more Sharia and keep less freedoms.
She was obviously coached for this. Why else would she say that it's the same as talking to someone on the phone? You can't see their face but you can have a pleasant conversation for an hour and no one has a cow about it. Well it's not the same thing, is it? Then she got totally hung up and lost her composure (I could see that, EVEN with the veil on,) when the interviewer asked whether she had the veil on when she met with school officials and one of them was a man. All the hemming and hawing and asking if she has to answer all the questions.
This stinks to high heaven and should be taken for what it is. And it's time to knock this nonsense out of the water the second we come into contact with it. No discussion. No taking phone calls from whining Muslim advocacy groups. And no appeal. Fire her and be done with it. And if you get a bunch of Muslims shouting and making death threats in the streets or they start burning cars, it's time to consider spraying them with gunfire. As I was watching the video, my five year olds came into the room and asked what I was watching. I told them that this lady was a school teacher of kids just like them. I asked them how they would like their teacher wearing such a costume, and was told 'NO! Creepy! How do kids know when she is smiling?' Out of the mouths of babes...
I see this as a golden opportunity.
I don't believe there is ANY mandate for the niqab in Qur'an or Ahadith or Sunnah.
During the inquiry, she should be asked to show where her own Islamic texts require such a getup.

You're absolutly correct, Isabellathecrusader, it is a set up. Look at the facts:
1) Aishah Azmi is a devote, practicing Muslim, yet she applies for a job at a Church of England school in an area that must have plenty of secular schools with a large number of Muslim pupils.
2) Azmi doesn't want to be unveiled before adult men yet does not wear her veil at the job interview or mentioned her intentions regarding the veil. Perhaps she knew it would cause a problem?
3) Effectively teaching a language involves showing students how to pronounce words.
4) Muslim women do not work outside the home without the husband's/father's permission.
Given these facts it is not impossible to believe that Azmi was put up to this by some person or group. The aim(s) of this charade could be anything. Maybe they want the school to become secular or Muslim. Perhaps they just want to see how much fuss they could kick up. Who knows?
This could be a mild form of spontaneous jihad. To cause a ripple of agitation in the smooth infidel world. A writer to the Saturday Globe & Mail's letters section attacked Margaret Wente's op-ed supporting Jack Straw arguing that the niqab is an expression of piety.
My comment is that if the niqab is an expression of piety and not an indication that a woman but her husband's chattel that I believe it is. (The niqab is worn so that only a husband and near male relatives can view a Muslima's face, and not potentially covetous males from outside the immediate family), then men would wear the niqab too.
The original news stories said the children were complaining because they couldn't see her lips. No mention of men at all.

We in the West don't value "face time" for nothing. The meta-language of facial expressions is a big part of communication, otherwise we'd do everything by phone (or from behind masks) and it wouldn't matter.
Doesn't anyone notice that where women take up (or are made to take up) face covering, the men in that society go crazy? Or that when the "guards" in the infamous Stanford prison experiment in 1971 covered the "inmates" faces the amount of abuse intensified? Face covering contributes to the dehumanizing of women and should be seen as a hostile act.
Yes some women do it voluntarily, but some people climb upon a high ledge and threaten to jump.

Personally I find the niqab and the burka deeply, deeply offensive. This woman deserves, in my opinion, to be fired for the grossest of rudeness, for the sheer offensiveness of her implied criticism of her male colleagues and for her hubris and malice in expecting that any civilised Christian institution should put up with her calling attention to herself in the way which she has done - the very reverse of the modesty which her so-called religion enjoins upon her.
Were she to be truly a modest muslima then she would not have worn the niqab and the burka for she would have known that to do so would call attention upon her.

This morning the talking heads on the radio discussed some solutions to the Iraqi problem. One put forth was to divide Iraq into three partitions, one each for Sunnis, Shites and Kurds. Another was to put a dictator friendly to the west in charge. Another was to get all the Muslim leaders together for talks and, I guess, a slumber party?! The thought that kept going through my mind was, do you even have a clue who you are dealing with? Have you studied what these people are about at all? Did you learn anything from the multi millions of people who were slaughtered in the 20th century by totalitarians like Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Ho Chi Minh?
How is it that our government, that is supposedly run by the people, can spend b-zillions of our taxpayer's dollars to run a war that they didn't even bother to get basic intelligence on regarding who the enemy is, what he's about and what he's capable of? Or could it be that our government knows what these folks are about and they have another agenda that we are not privy to. And if so, how do we as a people protect ourselves when those who are sworn to do it by upholding our laws don't uphold our laws and let every Tom, Dick and Harry cross our borders, make demands that hurt Americans, which our lawmakers then give in to, and we Americans are left holding the bag, paying for everything, sending our kids to fight in a war we can't possibly win as it is set up now and slowly have our rights and freedoms eroded, all in the name of tolerance?

You are correct in that we need to flex our muscles. It's the old use 'em or lose 'em concept. We need super strength, Windsor anti-Islamic Pilates! Strengthen that power core!! But really, we need to feed each other and help each to be strong and to not back down at all. How do the damned Muslims do it? By sticking together. They don't have any special courage. In fact I've read over and over again how they wimp out and back down when regular people stand up to them and tell them to shove it. They bank on us being intimidated by the stories of what a bunch of bad asses they are with all the raping and cutting off of appendages. But like Crocodile Dundee, who understood that if you bring a bigger knife to the battle, the former big mouth with the littler knife who was so in your face two minutes ago will tuck tale and run. (That was in Crocodile Dundee 1.)
The more I read and post here and the more I think about it, this stuff with the Muslims taking over is not a foregone conclusion. They are depending heavily on smoke and mirrors to fake us out and make us think we have already lost. Unfortunately, like in our American elections, many people buy into whatever the party line is at the moment and act accordingly. But I see a lot of descendents of the forefathers at this website, who have the blood of old. Like you say, lets keep doing the things we're doing regarding spreading the word and supporting those who put this stuff out. And we need to make friends on this site so we can back each other up. Sometime there is a lot of unnecessary nastiness here when people get tired and start sniping at each other. With the threat of Islam a real and continuing problem for our world it is depressing and sometimes overwhelming to get into a pissing contest with someone here who just likes to argue.

Yes, some friends can be told these things, gently, but continually, like a drip campaign. They will actually make an effort to stand up, like my niece who gave up her favorite Caribou Coffee drink because it is owned by Muslims. Others, some of whom have a lot of material goods, will pull away from us because they don't want to have to deal with this or because they want to focus on what they have and somehow think that by ignoring the situation and making more money they will be protected. But since Islam is an equal opportunity destroyer, it won't matter what they have or think...they'll go down with the rest of us.
I, however, no longer care if people get upset when I tell the truth. People who don't want to hear about it actually endanger all of civilized society as they stick their heads in the sand. They endanger you, me and our families and children and I won't stand for it anymore. I can lose some friends. I can't lose my country or my freedom.
