COPENHAGEN, Denmark - Videos showing anti-immigrant party members mocking the Prophet Muhammad were pulled from Web sites Monday as two youths seen in the clips were reported in hiding and the Foreign Ministry warned Danes against traveling to much of the Middle East.Muslim clerics from Egypt and Indonesia condemned the video broadcast in Denmark last week showing members of the Danish People's Party youth wing with cartoons of a camel wearing the head of Muhammad and beer cans for humps. A second drawing placed a turbaned, bearded man next to a plus sign and a bomb, all equaling a mushroom cloud.
In a move aimed at defusing tension, the Danish Foreign Ministry met ambassadors from Muslim countries to discuss the video Monday. It was unclear how many diplomats took part in the meeting hosted by Foreign Ministry director Ulrik Federspiel or which countries they represented.
Foreign Ministry officials explained to the ambassadors that the government had denounced the drawings and that the footage had been removed from the two Web sites that had posted it, the ministry said.
Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen condemned the youth in the video Sunday, saying "their tasteless behavior does in no way represent the way the Danish people or young Danish people view Muslims or Islam."
Citing critical media reports from many Muslim regions, the Foreign Ministry cautioned against travel to Gaza, the West Bank, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey.
"Against that background, we urge Danes to use caution as the matter could possibly lead to negative reactions. The atmosphere and reactions can vary dependent on time and place. Danes should be aware of the local mood," the ministry said....
The video was produced by an artists' group, Defending Denmark. In a message posted along with the video, the group said it had infiltrated the Danish People's Party Youth, known as DFU, for 18 months "to document (their) extreme right wing associations."
"This is not an example of something that is meant to provoke. This is an example to show how things are in Danish politics," artist Martin Rosengaard Knudsen told Danish public radio.
The clip was removed from that broadcaster's Web site Monday, as well as from the Nyhedsavisen newspaper's site. The purpose of the original publication was "not to insult Muslims or expose any members ... to any danger," said the paper's editor, David Trads.
A party official reportedly said that two youths seen in the video clips had gone into hiding.

Personally, I'm kinda happy that the PM critisized the behavior of the DPP-Youth members(I'd like to point out, that he didn't actually say he condemned anything, eventhough AP seems to translate his words into that). I'm happy because, right now, many (leftist) Danes think it'll make a difference.
We are however already seeing signs that we're in for another bout of "toon rage". A few companies have already had their produce removed from som Saudi supermarkets; the Iranian parliament is urging Ahmadinejad to sever all economic and diplomatic ties to Denmark(probably not much, but I'm guessing we're doing some charity there); and, ofcourse, we're suffering another "jihadi" hacking-spree.
I hope it escalates as much as last time, as it will show the apologists that no matter how much you grovel, it won't make any difference.
This kind of infiltration is not new and is not confined to Denmark or right-wing parties.
I belong to a speaking club which meets once a fortnight in winter to practise public speaking. You may speak on any subject but politics, sex and religion are absolutely banned. Men have joined simply to practise the speeches they're going to make at wedding receptions. It is that harmless.
We are always short of members as there are seldom a dozen of us so when we had a sudden influx of new faces they were very welcome. We are open to all and have had black and Asian members come and go over the years but it did seem odd to me that nearly all the newcomers were Asians.
The build up continued for a month or so until one night we had a total of 25 people attending and most of the newcomers were Asian. During the coffee break I struck up a conversation with a young Englishman and at the time I thought it was one of the strangest conversations I have ever had. He kept questioning me on the background of the club, how often we met, what we did and why I belong to it. All the time he was paying little attention to me but kept looking at something behind me. He asked me at least three times why I belonged to the club and was told three times that it was something my wife had got me to join and I hadn't got round to leaving. Finally he turned on his heel and said sarcastically “ Well you do get the pleasure of standing up and talking to people without being interrupted”.
Shortly afterwards I contacted a luncheon club in finalise details of an after-dinner speech I had agreed to do six months previously. The subject was local administration and apart from the free lunch I intended to donate the small fee to cancer research. The chairman told me that he was extremely embarrassed but unfortunately I had been double-booked and the engagement would have to be cancelled. I was annoyed and contacted our club President who had fixed up the engagement to say so.
Then things fell into place. The President told me that unknown to the rest of us one of our long-standing members, a professional businessman was a BNP activist. The local paper was going to “out” him in the next couple of weeks. An Asian member of the club had informed him of this and requested that the BNP member be expelled. Having discussed it with the area President he declined as we were entirely non-political he had no grounds to do so.
That explained the influx of Asians and the very nasty Englishman I had met that evening. In all probability they belonged to an anti-fascist organisation called Searchlight who devote their lives to giving the BNP and its membership are hard time. This political organisation is officially voluntary but I read that it receives funding from the governments National Lottery that supports “community projects”.
One has to be honest and say that the Asian infiltrators were reasonable and businesslike but their white associates were about as screwed-up as it's possible to be. The reason he kept looking behind me while talking was because it was probably where the BNP man was standing.
Anyway to come to a conclusion, the BNP member left shortly afterwards and some of the Asian members stayed on for a month or two just make absolutely sure we were group of harmless old windbags. We are now back to the usual 8/9 members at each meeting so if you happen to be in the North of England and want to practise your speech for a wedding reception or party look us up. But not if you belong to the BNP because we've been given a clean certificate by the anti-fascists and we want to keep it.

It would be an interesting social experiment, if someone published pictures of a man with a beard, turbin and sword, and named him Marcus, Melvin, or some such. Of course the name would have to be denoted in such a way so as people wouldn't think it was the artists name.

What I find particularily disturbing about this renewed 'Toon-Jihad' is the fact that the muslims now target our political leaders directly. I have never voted for the political party DF (The Danish Peopels Party), because there are many issues about which I disagree with them. But they are tough on immigration and many of their members have been highly critical of Islam. So they represent the political opposition to muslim immigration and influence in our society.
First the muslims went for our newspapers in order to stifle free speech and free debate, one of the cornerstones in any democracy. Now they target the politicians who express themselves critically about Islam. So first they give the (sceptical parts) of press a scare, then the (anti-muslim) politicians. It's like they are trying to challenge the foundations of our democarcy, picking it apart bit by bit.
A democracy can't survive if politicians feel intimidated to stay quiet about things who concern them, nor if journalists aren't able report freely and critically about ALL issues important to society.
I'm not too happy about all the things that PM Anders Fogh Rasmussen has said and done during the cartoon hoopla this spring or today, but it sends a chill down my spine to think about what would have happened if we had had a left wing government, they would have been bending over backwards to please the muslims. Perhaps that's why we are in the center of all this 'attention' from the Islamic world again, they didn't quite get what they were coming for the first time around, so now they are sticking a fork in us to see if we're done!

You should know how they work in our "liberal democracy". I stood against politicians once on a matter of professional principal when there was no racial element whatever and my career in councils ended. I know of two good men who have lost their jobs just for saying "Paki" without any insulting words attached. One career wrecking stand is enough and I have to make a living.
It will further annoy you, but after I did the post I remembered that another member of our club is a 27 year old graduate. So far as I know she is not aware of the events described as they were never discussed with the members. She has never expressed any political opinion but has been trying to join the police for the best part of a year. They have not turned her down, they have just not progressed her application. I wonder if.............?

He was not exactly “hounded out” but after he was “outed” he only made one token appearance. We had a couple of Asian members who, incidentally, he had never offended, so it would have been awkward. That is without the continued attentions of Searchlights “political detectives” as they were described by one (Daily Mirror?) journalist in a rare moment of truth.
The matter probably cost me a free lunch and cancer research £50. That is enough when you know at first hand what they do to you if oppose politicians. It might have cost the young woman a career in the Police but it could be forgotten and she will go and do something else.
