PARIS - Youths forced passengers off three buses and set them on fire overnight in suburban Paris, raising tensions Thursday ahead of the first anniversary of the riots that engulfed France's rundown, heavily immigrant neighborhoods.
No injuries were reported, but worried bus drivers refused to enter some suburbs after dark, and the prime minister urged a swift, stern response.
The riots in October 2005 raged through housing projects in suburbs nationwide, springing in part from anger over entrenched discrimination against immigrants and their French-born children, many of them Muslims from former French colonies in Africa. Despite an influx of funds and promises, disenchantment still thrives in those communities.
About 10 attackers -- five of them with handguns -- stormed a bus in Montreuil east of Paris early Thursday and forced the passengers off, the RATP transport authority said. They then drove off and set the bus on fire.
Late Wednesday, three attackers forced passengers off another bus in Athis-Mons, south of Paris, and tossed a Molotov cocktail inside, police officials said. The driver managed to put out the fire. Elsewhere, between six and 10 youths herded passengers off a bus in the western suburb of Nanterre late Wednesday and set it alight.
Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin said the events "should lead to an immediate response."
"We cannot accept the unacceptable," he told reporters in the northern suburb of Cergy-Pontoise. "There will be arrests. ... That is our responsibility."
Villepin also said efforts should be directed to "revitalize" troubled neighborhoods, and repeated the government's insistence that authorities rid France of "lawless zones" where youth gangs operate.
The overnight attacks and recent ambushes on police have raised concern about the changing character of suburban violence, which is seemingly more premeditated than last year's spontaneous outcry and no longer restricted to the housing projects. The use of handguns was unusual -- last year's rioters were armed primarily with crowbars, stones, sticks or gasoline bombs.
Regional authorities said the Nanterre bus line, which passes near Paris' financial district, had not been considered at a high risk of attack. Francois Saglier, director of bus service at the RATP, said the attacks happened "without prior warning and not necessarily in neighborhoods considered difficult."

The article's author apparently thinks it is part of his job to tell us us that when people in gangs, many of them with handguns, hijack busses, and turn the terrified passengers out, and then burn those busses, "many of them Muslims" when ordinarily all of them are Muslims, with the appearance occasionally of one or two non-Muslim immigrant too terrified not to go along, and already having imbibed from the ambient air the same attitudes exhibited by Muslims who grow up in societies, in Paris as in Quetta or Riyadh or Baghdad, suffused with Islam. The most significant part of this, however ,is not the torched buses but the handguns these "youths" have.
These could be toys/replicas, which could be why they didn't kill anyone. If they are not, then France has a serious problem. Like Agrippa said, an AK-47 in an attack like this is a sign of even more serious trouble.
But handguns are too! Handguns are damn near impossible to get in France legally. We can assume these "youths" didn't get them legally, then there is an organized network of Muslims that can supply arms to these rioters. As such, AK-47's, grenades and RPG's are not far off.
Previously, in the 1960's, Paris riot police only had to deal with the stones being ripped up from the cobblestone streets and chucked at riot police. They've since started pouring tar on them to make them stick to each other, but what will they do when they start getting grenades lobbed at them. First of all, this situation in France is not a 'youth' problem. A group of young ethnic Russians, including some ex-convicts, had been drinking in the restaurant that evening, an official at Karelia's Interior Ministry said.
The men began arguing with the restaurant's bartender. The argument led to a fight. The bartender, an Azeri managed to escape but later returned with some friends, all natives of the Caucasus bearing knives, baseball bats and iron rods. In the ensuing brawl, two ethnic Russians were killed; nine others, including Russians and natives of the Caucasus, were injured.
The events in Kondopoga mark the first time an entire town has been deserted by natives of the Caucasus forced to flee for their lives, and it could trigger similar disturbances elsewhere, said Alexander Verkhovsky, director of the Sova think tank.

Singapore has far fewer jihadists to remove from its own soil than western Europe. And it has plenty of neighboring countries that it could call on for help (not Indonesia and Malaysia of course). You can put twenty-thousand jihadists in jail cells, but try doing that with six hundred thousand or so. The magnitude of the problem will therefore force a different approach. It's like with cancer, a few cancerous cells can be removed with a quick surgical procedure; metastasized cancer requires chemo.
What 'worked' for Singapore will thus not help western Europe.

You'd better talk to your imam. But you've just got to get out and you can't afford the transit tax? OK, you get a one-way pass all the way out of the country, complete with police escort. Collect your family, get out and the ghetto cedes a proportional amount of territory back to the government.
Easier yet: deport malefactors and their immediate families (parents, children, siblings). That should save on both building materials and precious time, as well as sending a clear message to the remaining malcontents that only one law will rule the land, and it sure isn't sharia.

IMHO the only thing on the planet more cunningly deceitful than a muslim is a frenchman. If I came across a gang of “youths” attacking a frenchman I would sit, pop a top on a beer, eat a BBQ pork sandwich and wait patiently until they finished with him. I have relatives who lived in Singapore and they told me that apartment blocks are divided into ethnic proportions i.e. the residents have to comprise of a certain ratio of Malay, Chinese and Muslim. This is very sensible as it prevents ghetos and separatism, by forcing different cultures to intergrate.
This policy is being touted by the liberal left in Europe following the realisation that multiculturalism has failed, and that the social fabric is now looking quite fragile. They are now talking about social engineering quite openly now, which a few years ago would have been frowned upon. (must be scared!)

The AP report refers to "anger over entrenched discrimination against immigrants and their French-born children" fuelling last year's riots.
Why is the existence of this "discrimination" still a foregone conclusion in the mainstream media? Why do they continue to give these thugs such legitimacy? Immigrants all over the world have always understood that adaptation is necessary. Immigrants in Europe are entitled to at least 12 years of quality, free public education, by law. They are entitled to free health care and a slew of other social services, by law. They have to be accepted by public post-secondary instutions if they qualify academically, by law. If they are really discriminated against by a prospective employer, they have the human rights laws of every European country, not to mention the EU, to back them up, not to mention a veritable army of human rights laywers eager to provide their services for free. Nothing is stopping these people from doing well but their own will. While of course there is still racism, prejudice, and ignorance, there is no "entrenched" discrimination preventing any immigrant anywhere in Europe from having a successful and prosperous life, AS part of the European mainstream, if that is what they really want. But these people don't want that. All of the well-intentioned things done for immigrants are meant to help them to adapt. And most immigrants do just that, without sacrificing their faith or their identities. What Europeans still fail to realize is that these particular immigrants (and by extension, their children) don't want to adapt to Europe; they want Europe to adapt to them.

Maybe, but statistically chances are much higher that some day an armed citizen will not save me but kill me, either accidentally or intentionally. I'm pretty tough, I can put up a fight in many situations, but I can't fight a bullet. So allowing more people to have more guns somehow doesn't make me feel more secure.

I'd say perhaps the 'white' bit is racist and will mislead you. It's not about melanin but about values. Here in New Zealand, western classical music is actually most represented by young Asians (here we don't use that word for Middle Eastern people, but real Asians: Korean, Japanese Chinese etc) If I had children, I'd want to send them to a school with many children of those immigrants, because they are extremely hard-working, have a deep dedication to learning and achievement, are polite and respectful, are generally, in short, everything I would want my children to be.
Oh, and they are generally Christians, too.
So I wouldn't recommend getting distracted by skin colour. This is about shared values.

I went to school with a number of Hong Kong Chinese children and know that your comments are true. I also went to school and made friends with Asians from Pakistan India and Bangladesh (maybe in NZ you call them "unreal Asians") Asia is a very large continent by the way. My experience is that some of them were extremely hard working and some of them weren't and most of them were Muslim although secular. Personally I wouldn't choose a school based on the fact that the pupils were all hard working classical music virtuosos/robots.
I would like my children to meet different people of different cultures and would always teach them to show respect/understanding. I would not want them to be just polite and respectful but also to question things and maybe be a little rebelious. i.e human. I didn't say I wanted my children to go to an all white school.
In the UK for someone to say that they want their children to go to a predominantly white school (i.e. most children to look like them and speak the same language and share cultural values)the reaction is the same as if you had just erected a large wooden cross and set light to it. This is the level of hysteria that anyone questioning multiculturalism is faced with so no one says it in public (but we all know what the majority think).
You're right, it is not about melanin but it is about culture and the white western culture is being diluted and we are constantly being told it is worthless and should be consigned to the scrapheap. One child preferred the Chinese man "because he looks nicer and he has a smile on." But both men were smiling.
Several children weighed in on the Arab man's personality, basing their opinions on just seeing his picture. One child said, "I think he's weird." Another child said, "He's like the scary dude."………
After all, the Chinese guys may join your infidel side to fight against Islamic Jihadists. Better be nice to them.

Oriental people may be xenophobic on the Western land, but they are not here to spread their evil influences like radical Muslims do. They are pacifistic capitalists who follow the wise Confucius teaching :

If the American government has considered that in developing their foreign policy, we Western infidels wouldn't face so much Islamic terrorism, and America wouldn't fail so miserably in the Iraq War. Everything is a matter of cause and effect!
The good news is that China will join America in the war on terrorism when a global crisis such as the collapse of the US economy and geopolitical/military machine that would not just be a disaster for the US, but might send tsunami-type waves all over the globe. The majority of America's global adversaries - China, for example - would try their best to prevent US society, including its socio-economic and even military structure, from collapsing like the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. This desirable scenario would create a vacuum that could well be at least partly filled by China.

It is only your truth/fact. Perhaps you have had a Chinese lover who treated you this way. Sorry to hear that. However, my truth/fact is that people of every race think they are superior to others; they just usually don't talk about that openly in public, like we all have stereotypes.

Maybe you have to speak about the pupils and children in a relative term next time. I certainly wouldn't send my children to a Muslim- or Arab-infested public school in America. These Muslim/Arab young students are well known to "question things and maybe a little rebellious" far more than what you want in a civilized Western way, not to mention that many of them are certainly not polite and respectful to their teachers and fellow infidel classmates like their Oriental counterparts are. When they are a majority, they dominate others; when they are a minority, they complain stubbornly.

China 9the govt) is not our friend but the masses of Chinese people who want democracy hopefully will become our friends in the near future after a much needed overthrow of those old @#$@#$@ in power there in Beijing. Then we will have one large Tawain and thats a good deal safer than a communist govt. I'll give the communists this much: they have kept their 32 million muslim chinese quiet thru an iron fist.
I know this sounds "crazy" but I still am hoping countries will just expell all these radical Islamists and trade them for nonmuslims from the middle eastern countries. Of course Im sure pro-Islamists out there will accuse me of being "racist" --but I am not: hey I dont care about your race Chinese, Arabic, English etc etc as long as your philosophy isnt Islamic. I just finished reading another blog from Florida of an 18 year old Muslim girl who says that she was born and raised in America and because she is muslim supports violent jihad to make America more comfortable for her --wow what gratitude.
