A small blow for sanity in Virginia. The road is a private one running through a secretive Muslim community. "Private road named for Muslim is focus of Christian group's bid," by Jamie C. Ruff for the Times-Dispatch, with thanks to Twostellas:
...Members of an organization calling itself the Christian Action Network said they want to appear before the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors to request that the name of Sheikh Gilani Lane, the private road running through the Muslim community, be changed.Martin Mawyer, president of the Forest-based group, showed up at Tuesday's board meeting to make his case but was not allowed to speak because the issue was not on the agenda. About 30 members of the Muslims of America community were also in attendance but also did not speak.
Members of the Muslim community as well as nearby residents declined to comment when contacted later last week.
The week before, the Christian Action Network, which says it is a nonprofit lobbying organization dedicated to protecting the traditions of the American family and defending the nation against radical Islam, said it dropped from an airplane about 2,500 fliers on the Red House area around the Muslim community. The fliers allege that Sheikh Gilani Lane honors a terrorist and blames him for the beheading of journalist Daniel Pearl.
Pearl was reportedly on his way to interview Sheikh Mubarik Gilani, a Muslim cleric in Pakistan, when he was abducted Jan. 23, 2002, in Karachi. Gilani helped found the Muslims of America and the Charlotte County site, as well as several others in rural areas across the country. Federal authorities have alleged that Muslims of America is connected with al-Fuqra and responsible for bombings and murders across the country.
The Christian Action Network's Web site says the group is one of the nation's leading grass-roots Christian political organizations with more than 250,000 active members.
"It is outrageous there is a road sign in Charlotte County named after an international terrorist," Mawyer said in a letter left at the board's meeting last week. "It is an insult to all the victims of 9/11 to continue to honor a known terrorist by granting him a sign that officially appears on the maps of Charlotte County."
Sheikh Gilani Lane was established shortly after the Muslim community was developed. about 10 years ago. County rules allow residents to name their private roads.
"We didn't know who Gilani was, and we felt like it was their business," Clark said. "But 9/11 changed all that."
Clark said the Board of Supervisors has referred the issue to the county attorney to decide whether it can even take up the question of the lane's name without it being an act of discrimination. There is no time frame for when the attorney will finish his research.
"All I can do is wait to hear from our attorney and the board will decide what or what not to do," Clark said.
"Changing the name of the road is not going to change the situation we are faced with," he said. "It wouldn't change anything going on in that community."
That is true.
We need to adopt a new rule in America.
THOU SHALT NOT HONOR ANY KNOWN TERRORISTS OR ANY MUSLIM DUE TO THE FACT HE COULD IN AN INSTANT, BECOME ONE HIMSELF.
It's sure nice to know that there's "a secret Muslim group" not that far from the capital. Why is it still secret after all these years?
Just shows where the so called Ummah is at to name roads after terrorist filth.
Well if they never change the name of the road, it will remind us all in the future of what the Muslims value and admire.
It would truly be in the Muslim's best interest to change the name of the road. If they don't this will become the subject of Sunday worship. This is not where the Muslims want to be.

Undoubtely these clowns work in the Wahabbi corridor http://www.sperryfiles.com/corridor.shtml
If they work at all and aren't hatching scams and schemes
This year in Paris it was planned to name a street after Mumia, but after lots of complaints from people including myself they named it after police officer Faulkner instead.
This 'private' group is better known as jamaat ul fuqra.
Here is the link to the :
NBC12 news video report
Several of these compounds are scattered across our nation unfettered. Why?
A DIGEST of Jamaat ul-Fuqra Coverage can be found at the blog The Politics of CP
A recent article linking jamaat ul fuqra to many recent terror incidents can be found here:
US ISLAMIC TERROR NETWORK PROTECTED BY US GOV'T. AGENCIES
WHY?
Unbeknownst to NY Times dhimmi idiot, Thomas Friedman, the arab street is a lot closer than he thinks.
anonYmouse,
That report you quoted has a lot of assertions, but little evidence.
Examples:
"John Muhammed, the Beltway sniper had direct ties to Al-Fuqra."
What's the evidence for this assertion?
"Richard Reid, the shoe bomber, who used TATP, had direct ties to Al-Fuqra."
What's the evidence for this assertion?
Also, that report suffers at times from syntactical incoherence, example:
"Congressmen Rohrabacher and Saxton knew from their director, Joseph Bodansky ( House Task Force on Terrorism -1995) of the AlFuqra terror connection via Lattimore (Menepta) ties to McVeigh in OKC (Travelers Aid) and at an AlFurqra training center at Talahini OK near the white supremacist compound Elohim City, called and visited by McVeigh to see the German national Andreas Strassmeyer."
What does this sentence mean?
Reminiscent of the German-American Bund's Camp Siegried, and German Gardens, in Yaphank, NY (Nazi sympathizers) in the 1930's:

Personally, I prefer that the "Sheik Gilani Lane" remain, not renamed. The street-namers choice is instructive to all.
And: I am happy that the Christian Action Network has brought this to light.
How about just changing the name to the following:
"Sheik Gilani, head-remover Monkey-Pig Jew Daniel Pearl, make benefit glorius nation of Islam, Lane"?
This should be a case of not forgetting history lest we are...
Let them keep their street name, but publish and publicize it in all corners of the West so all the West will know that Islamic Immigration is not good.

Charlotte County is in a very rural part of Virginia that isn't particularly close to DC. I'd estimate it to be about a 4-hour drive. (For history buffs, it's just south of Appomattox County.)
Baron Bodissey over at Gates of Vienna did a 3-part series on this site last year. Part 3 has photos of the town and the street in question (including a close-up of the street sign). If I can get the link to work, check here: http://gatesofvienna.blogspot.com/2005/12/jamaat-ul-fuqra-in-virginia-part-3.html
I presume that Hitler Boulevard, or Mohammad Atta Lane, would not be permitted anywhere in this country, on a public or a private lane. Why then tolerate a place named after Sheikh Gilani? Toponymic transformations will not change Muslim hearts and minds about anything -- of course it won't -- but that was never the point. The point is not to allow people to honor those who do not deserve honoring, and who, most Infidels will agree, represent a threat to them. It will put Muslim hearts and minds on notice that some things are not any longer to be overlooked or, still worse, consciously tolerated, and that if this is not understood and accepted, there is always the exit -- high wide and handsome. For Infidels, the mixture as before would be lethal. Not fast acting, as Polonium-210, but slowly. Quickly or slowly, we refuse to acquiesce, we refuse to be put to bed.
There is always Matamoros Street in Laredo, TX.

Merci! A little off-topic here, but I seem to recall that Mumia's own brother, who was also at the scene of the crime (though apparently not involved) would not even testify in his defense. I know there are innocent people convicted of crimes, but he certainly is not one of them. I'm glad the French saw sense in that case. Thanks for taking the time to complain.
Perhaps the Christian Action Network could propose some road names of their own:
Pope Urban II Superhighway and Emperor Alexus I Thoroughfare.
Just might give those who chose to name a road in honor of Daniel Pearl's murderer pause.
Hugh,
If this were a public street, I would agree that it should not be tolerated, at all. As a private street, it is in the domain of the owners. Wide publicity and criticism is then useful to show the public what its owners believe in and glorify: the horrors of islam. I hope the street name is not changed, and that the story gets wide publicity.
That there were streets in Yaphank, NY, named by the German-American Bund after hitler, goebbels and goering, was and is instructive to all, concerning what the Bund stood for. The "Muslims of America" group is similiar to the pre WW2 Bund, in its support for a totalitarian supremacist ideology. This ideology is named islam. That ideology was nazism.
For more on Fritz Kuhn and the Bund, read "Under Cover" by John Roy Carlson. It went through 30-40 editions in one year, and that year was in the middle of World War II. That book should be republished, and put on the syllabuses. And so should John Roy Carlson's "From Cairo to Damascus."
I wish the christian action committee alot of luck. The Muslims have alot of nerve naming a road after a terrorist. But, then again, they don't consider islamic mass murderers evil.
The road should be renamed Pearl Road. Now that would be more appropriate.
Yes, that's true. It won't change anything in that community. But it sends a message. American communities will not tolerate the slow and gradual pressure placed on our society to change into an Islamic culture.
Immigrants in the past(I being one) have come to America and joined in the melting pot, enrichened it and become mainstream Americans. Immigrants who come here and set up enclaves with the idea of changing American society to their image and likeness need to understand that it is not going to happen. Street names, earmarking taxis as Islamic, calling to prayer 5 times a day...etc are all first steps and must be rejected. And rejected in the strongest terms. No political correctness!!!
I understand that one of the Paris streets has been named after Yassir Arafat. America is no France!
Il Toscano
With a name like Gilani, it has to be a Dead End.

Ph yes there are no moderate Muslims so therefore not even one moderate name can be located? Well doesn't that tell the whole story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
