Crusader, the problem is that the modern instantiations of the Palestinian conflict have been mostly local. Hamas has not encouraged violence outside of the region. So, this (if actualized) is a pretty big step. It was a term given particularly to seafaring people (possibly Greek or Minoan, NOT Arab) who settled in the Gaza coastal area during ancient Israel's history. Sorry, Ramon, genetic studies prove that Jews in Israel (including Ashkenazi Jews, who immigrated from Europe) are of Middle Eastern origin, although some may have “vestiges” of Khazar ancestry. I'm glad to see someone refute Ramon's propaganda. It's no-doubt an age-old lie perpetuated in Islamic strongholds in order make their anti-semitism somehow LESS anti-semitic. (I mean, I suppose if they aren't REALLY "Jewish," then they're hate propaganda can't REALLY be anti-semitic, right?)
What gets me about the hate propaganda against the Jews, and more directly against Israelis is that from what I've seen of it (from MEMRI TV) is that it is identical to the propaganda against the Jews during the Nazi reign in the 1930's and 40's. I've read and seen loads of articles and cartoons of the most vile, disgusting hate towards the Jews by Julius Streicher, and Iran, Egypt, and Hezbollah media use the same words and images as the Nazis did.
So, as far as I'm concerned, even IF these people are not "Jews" in the same sense that the people who lived in Israel during the time of King David were, even then they'd still be a civilized people maintaining a civilized society, and a people wanting to leave a decent legacy to their children. This sorry situation actually provoked the first American identification with the Jewish cause, when in 1840 Syrian Jews were accused of blood libel and outraged Americans influenced the Ottoman authorities to put an end to the Syrian Arab pogrom.

Had you read the references -- not to mention the actual studies -- you would have realized that instantly.
