MORE than 700 Islamic militants from Somalia travelled to Lebanon in July to fight alongside Hezbollah in its war against Israel, a confidential UN report says.The report, seen by The New York Times, says the militia in Lebanon returned the favour by providing training and - through its patrons Iran and Syria - weapons to the Islamic alliance struggling for control of Somalia.
The paper said the report appears to be the first indication that foreign fighters assisted Hezbollah during the 34-day conflict, when Israel maintained a tight blockade on Lebanon.
The report also says Iran sought to trade arms for uranium from Somalia to further its nuclear ambitions, though it does not say whether Iran succeeded.
The report says Iran, Syria, Libya, Egypt and the Hezbollah militia in Lebanon are providing arms, training and financing to Islamic militants as they seize political and military control in Somalia.
The Washington Post said the report, prepared by a panel of UN weapons and financial experts, warned that the conflict could reignite a war between Eritrea, the chief foreign sponsor of the Islamists, and Ethiopia, which is backing Somalia's weak transitional federal Government.
Funny how Iran wants Israel gone and yet it always sends someone else to do the dirty work-Somalis, palestinians, Syrians. So few Iranians seem willing to get down and dirty. Why? It's also interesting to note the ease with which the supposedly irreconcilable Shiites and Sunnis can make common cause when they have the 'infidels' to kick around... Well -- what about the news that Iran is grooming the next generation of Sunni Al Qaida leadership? What about mounting evidence that Saudi support for the spread of ever more hateful permutations of Islam continue unabated in the world? Finally, I haven't seen much (any) analysis to this effect, but I am convinced that the well timed one-two punch delivered recently against Israel was coordinated between Hamas (Sunni) and Hezbollah. Hamas' kidnapping looked like a feint, when followed within 2 weeks by Hezbollah's well planned strike.
It's clear to me that a Muslim Arab Persian Shiite Sunni axis coordinated to bring about the latest war with Israel -- and represents only the latest salvo from rampaging Islam. We have more and far worse to look forward to.

Let's see, an axis spread across (at least) 3 continents with a huge (though as yet poorly organized) army, vast amounts of wealth at their disposal, breathing genocidal intentions and world domination. The rest of the world stands by in denial about the real nature of what is happening, and figures that surgically "taking out" a couple of bad guys, accompanied by a massive appeasement campaign, will put out the fire.
Hunker down, folks, it's going to get worse before it gets better. This time, though, it doesn't look like the Americans will be the ones to arrive late on the scene ... but I sure hope they figure out where the enemy lies pretty soon; while watching the axis develop overseas we've got a pretty good-sized fifth column right here at home.

Does this bit of news suprize anyone? Some may wonder why these muslims from every corner of earth is willing to participate in jihad, and I have heard so many excuses given, but the fact is: Allah commands it! Although there are many sects of Islam and many tribal flavors mixed in, they all share the Koran and the prophet Muhammad. Until we address the Koran and Muhammad's teachings, we are going to be in the dark. I'm beginning to think that if there are any so-called "moderate" muslins, they must, indeed, be truly afraid of deadly reprisals if they actually speak up - even in this country.
I know quite a few non-Arab & non-Persian "moderate" muslims: Several hundred well-educated Bosnian Muslims from Mostar (& a few from Sarajevo) settled in our community, through the assistance of the Internat'l Rescue Committee, in the mid-1990s during & after the Balkan War. They, of course, are culturally & nationally South Slavs, but their ancestors bowed to the sword of conversion in the 15th century, when the Turks conquered that part of Europe.
Many of these refugees have become good friends and endlessly speak of the (relatively) "tolerant" era (as long as you didn't defy & challenge the Communist/Socialist state & Tito) in which they had formerly lived. And they pointed out how all religions (albeit banned officially) lived in relative peace together - particularly in the truly cosmopolitan capital of Sarajevo.
Tito - like Saddam - had kept a tight lid on all ethnic & religious conflicts & suppressed any outright aggressions; but when he died and the country broke apart, all the old hatreds - going back almost exclusively to the Turkish conquest & Muslim domination of the Christian (primarily Orthodox, but including some Roman)population - burst out again - and with a vengeance.
Those that I know, however, kept their muslim faith (I have no idea how many reconverted after the last Balkan War to defeat the Turks, just before WWI) but are no more bloody jihadist than any of my Christian & Jewish friends! Is this just primarily an Arab thing? On the other hand, from much of what I hear, terrorists & jihadis are actually training in parts of Bosnia (but supposedly well out of the eye of the NATO forces that are still required to keep the warring factions apart). What's going on?
Dr. Bulldog: The US Census doesn't ask for religion. The number of Muslims is extrapolated from people claiming national origin in a Muslim country, claims of mosques, etc. I would guess that our Muslim population is in fact smaller, because there is an exodus from Islam going on among immigrants.
Somalia is a country that lost the Cold War but bad. When the USA and the USSR stopped competing for influence, et. al., the aid dried up and Somalia (among a lot of other countries) went belly up.
As for the behavior of Somali refugees, there are a lot of them in the area where I live (a lot of just about everything--although he Latin Americans are by far the largest immigrant group; with Far Eastern peoples fairly prominent, too). I don't doubt that there are bad eggs among them, but of Somali kids I have taught (I teach ESOL), I have seen a lot of diligence, and some who want to join the US Army on graduation in order to go after the Qaeda types. My guess is that a lot of Islamic countries and cultures are badly divided themselves.
As for Iran, they forfeited any right to civilized treatment back in 1979. Whenever I envounter a Mujaheddin-e-Khalq shmuck collecting signatures on the Washington Mall exploiting our American hatred of the mad mullahs, I remind him that his own terrorist band was the first group into the "Nest of Spies"; that he has a lot of bloody nerve finding refuge in the "Great Shaitan"; and that if he wanted to prove himself worthy of my respect, he ought to be home and driving a TNT-laden truck into the main mosque in Qom in the middle of Friday prayers. I also remind them that if the USA copied their so-called civilization, the Iran of today would remember Hulaku Khan and Tumur-e-lang as merciful men. That usually makes them blanch.

Apart from its belief that Israel is an illegitimate state that was established on an occupied land, Hizbullah has two pressing issues after the Israeli withdrawal from South Lebanon in 2000: the dispute over Shebaa Farms and the Arab prisoners in Israel.
According to the Lebanese government, Shebaa Farms is part of Lebanon; however, Israelis argue that it is part of the occupied Syrian territory. Shebaa Farms has a strategic importance because it overlooks the occupied Golan Heights. Syria supports the Lebanese position with regard to the disputed area.
Hizbullah has also been calling for the release of Arab prisoners in Israel. Approximately 10,000 Palestinian and Arab prisoners, including 2,000 Lebanese, are held in Israeli prisons. In a German-brokered swap that took place in 2004, 430 Lebanese and Palestinian prisoners were released in exchange for the bodies of three Israeli soldiers and an Israeli businessman. However, the fact that a large number of Arab prisoners are still held in Israel urged Hizbullah Secretary General Hassan Nasrullah to warn that they would capture more Israeli soldiers with the purpose of swapping.
Somalies are one thing, but IDF troops found Iranian Republican Guard ID on a number of the dead fighters in the recent war. Iran was not really trying to hide its involvement.
Ramon: Why did you conveniently omit the fact that, at Israel's request, the UN certified the international Lebanese-Israeli border in 2000 after the Israeli withdrawal? Why did you omit the fact that the UN certified that Sheba Farms was Syrian territory? Why did you omit the fact that Lebanon accepted this UN certification? Syria only supports Lebanese claims in order to force Israel off of this strategic land, which Israel captured while defending itself against a war launched by Syria. You omitted that, too.
So, your solution to prevent Hizbollah from crossing into Israeli territory and kidnapping Israelis is to avoid the arrest of enemy combatants and terrorists altogether? Those thousands of Arabs are not in Israeli jails for running stoplights. Think about what you are suggesting - a thinly vieled Israeli surrender to its enemies. Of course, I would also prefer Israel not incarcerate enemy combatants; I think they should be shot to death on sight - no more bargaining chips; no more Hizbollah kidnapping!
