Iran to IAEA: Help us build reactor while we ignore you

See? Iran is seeking cooperation with the IAEA. At least where it involves the latter cooperating with the former's wishes. "Iran said seeking help with nuclear reactor," from Reuters:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Iran plans to ask the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency later this month for technical assistance on a nuclear reactor project that could produce two bombs a year, two experts said on Thursday.
Robert Einhorn, a former top U.S. nonproliferation official now with the Center for Strategic and International Studies and Daryl Kimball, head of the Arms Control Association, both based in Washington, said the request should be rejected because it would advance Tehran's nuclear weapons capability.
"When the Arak reactor is completed, which the Iranians say could happen as early as 2009, it will be capable of producing enough plutonium for about two bombs a year," they said in an analysis.
Iran's request to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) board of governors meeting beginning November 23 would seek technical assistance to help ensure safety at a heavy-water production facility at Arak, Iran.
It has come up even as the U.N. Security Council is haggling over a resolution that would impose sanctions on Tehran for ignoring its demand to halt nuclear enrichment by August 31.
The United States and its allies accuse Iran of pursuing nuclear weapons under the guise of a peaceful energy program. Tehran says it needs nuclear power to produce electricity to meet the country's burgeoning energy needs.
Requests for help with safety issues -- like the one coming before the IAEA -- are usually hard to turn down, but the two experts said Iran's history of secretly pursuing weapons-related nuclear capabilities make this case different.
"The issue before the (IAEA) board is not safety; it is whether Iran should proceed with a project that the board itself has regarded with suspicion and called on Iran to suspend," they said in a written analysis.
Tehran has said the Arak reactor would be used to produce isotopes for peaceful purposes, but the project under construction is a large, heavy water-moderated reactor when a light-water research reactor is satisfactory for that task, they said.
Einhorn and Kimball noted that Britain, France and Germany offered to replace Iran's 40-megawatt heavy-water reactor with a light-water research reactor but Iran wasn't interested.
When reprocessed, fuel rods irradiated in heavy-water reactors yield high-quality, weapons-grade plutonium. Light-water reactors are generally considered to be less useful in weapons proliferation, experts say.

At last we will have electricity too cheap to meter.

For decades nations that relied on nuclear energy have had to contend with the leftover waste and spent fuel rods. Now Iran has solved this conundrum. Their only waste product is electricity.

I would just like to say a few words on behalf of the young Iranian college students who have taken to the streets to protest this extremely dangerous game thier leaders are playing. I commend them for their bravery, and hope the MADNESS that thier President is engadged in, stops. By ANY means nessesarry!!!Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is INSANE!!!

"When the Arak reactor is completed, which the Iranians say could happen as early as 2009, it will be capable of producing enough plutonium for about two bombs a year,"

HeHe , is this reactor DEEP underground ?
Do the Israelis know where to find it ?
"When the Arak reactor is compl..........BOOM !

they have the gall to ask the iaea for help in finishing a reactor now we know there nuts the iranians are very sckilled at useing Taqiyya
so they must think there treat that they have a rocket that can reach the usa must have us scared into being good little dhimmibut when they get nukes to put on them i think there firs twn targets are going to be telaviv and wa dc so maby its time the usa used one of the la class boomers to destroy that reactor and if they manage to get a kilo class sub that has a apu set up so it can stay under for up to 3 weeks and launch nuke tioed cruise missials we may in trubal right now a boat like that is playing games with the navy and its so quiet they cant find it

Yeah right ! We will provide the rope by which they plan to hang us.

Do not be surprised if they get the help. This will be pushed in the UN as a way to lower tensions. I expect all the American hating countries to jump in on irans side. The spin will be the safety angle. We wouldn’t want to be responsible for a disaster now would we? I’m sure iran will offer all sorts of things as a “thank you” to its supporters. The president prophet wins and we lose.

Will they ignore us while we're (or Israel) bombing them? Someone working for the criminally insane Imadinnerjacket, should take it upon himself to save Iran and screw up the reactors. Give the computers a virus. Something!

I'm afraid Ronin is right about how things will unfold with Iran's nuclear ambitions. China is most interested in securing oil and enhancing its status as a global power, and Russia ain't far behind.

LOL ROFL.. They need help from the Infidels! muhaha..

Since when do they care for preserving life. If an engineer dies in an accident they could be considered a martyr of islam and get thier 72 virgins. Why would they want to deprive themselvs of 72 virgins?

Argentina Issues Iran Indictment

In a long-awaited indictment, Argentinean prosecutors have accused the top Iranian leadership of masterminding the 1994 bombing of the Jewish communal center in Buenos Aires and asked the judge in charge of the case to issue arrest warrants against seven Iranian leaders, including former president Ali Akbar Rafsanjani.

-----NOW LET'S HELP THEM BUILD THE BOMB!! ;-)

Iran has repeatedly denied being involved in the attack.

Why do I think the IAEA will indeed supply whatever help the Iranians want? This world really is suffering from terminal insanity if that does happen.

Watch the reception of our new "I'm totally moderate don't want Islamerica at all" congressman

I would say Congress can't get any lower, but they'll surprise me.

I tell ya, the Muslims would be all gone by now if it wasn't for the stupid infidels constantly bailing them out of one mess after another. If these crazies do inherit the earth they'll miss us badly because nobody will be around to prevent the slaughter amongst the cultists and the ensuing mess that will result. We certainly could get along without them in this world but the reverse is certainly not true.

What exactly do a bunch of 7th century barbarians need all this electricity for?

Giggle-Puss:

The 7th century stuff is only applicable to social conventions. When it comes to slaughtering infidels, the most recent technological advances, even if they are Jewish inventions or innovations, are not proscribed.

Islam wants to take over the earth, huh. Ha Ha Ha!!!!

Well, doesn't EARTH have anything to say about that? I think she (mother earth) has been putting up a pretty good fight thus far -- to insure that THAT never happens now or in the future; and eventually she will devour them up one by one -- belch!!

She can be patient, therefore I will be patient.

I mean..... B E L C H !!!!!

Why all the hubub?

If Prez Mahmoud wants to nuke Israel, all he's gotta do is pick up the phone and ring up Vlad over at the Winter Palace. Plenty of non-MIRV warhaids on the block there.

Dubya peered deep into Putin's blue eyes, and liked what he saw. I wonder what he saw in there.

No wonder mother earth has givin them so much desert.

Watch the reception of our new "I'm totally moderate don't want Islamerica at all" congressman.

I'll be partying in the 5th Congressional District in a few hours.

Here's a sample of what our moderate Moslem Congressman recites five times a day:

The Muslims met the unbelievers with their swords. They cut through many arms and skulls. Only confused cries and groans could be heard over our battle roars and snarling.
--- Mohammed reveling in some good old fashioned blood lust in Ishaq 550.

Vile -- LOL!!! Yeah, and they've been blessed with brains too; and a prophet they can be proud of.

Now I'm really puzzled.

I get a rebuke from Hugh for disagreeing with his opinion that we should cut and run from Iraq because I fear the nuclear ambitions of Iran.

He calls me a "defeatist" (isn't cutting and running a defeatist action???) and asks me where I got the crazy idea that Iran will go nuclear...

Has he read this article?

Khamenei calls elections a victory for Iran

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Friday called U.S. President George W. Bush's defeat in congressional elections a victory for Iran.

Bush has accused Iran of trying to make a nuclear bomb, being a state sponsor of terrorism and stoking sectarian conflict in Iraq, all charges Tehran denies.

"This issue (the elections) is not a purely domestic issue for America, but it is the defeat of Bush's hawkish policies in the world," Khamenei said in remarks reported by Iran's student news agency ISNA on Friday.

Since Washington's hostile and hawkish policies have always been against the Iranian nation, this defeat is actually an obvious victory for the Iranian nation."

The Democrats wrested control of both houses of Congress from the Republicans in this week's mid-term elections, partly because of voter concern over the war in Iraq.

Khamenei, a senior cleric in power since 1989, has the last word on matters of state in Iran's complex system of Islamic rule, while the government, under President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is in charge of day-to-day decision making.

"The result of this election indicates that the majority of American people are dissatisfied and are fed up with the policies of the American administration," the IRNA state news agency quoted Ahmadinejad as saying.

Khamenei said military maneuvers in the Gulf this week in which Iranian forces tested new missile systems showed Iran was ready to face any threat.

But, he said: "With the scandalous defeat of America's policies in Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon and Afghanistan, America's threats are empty threats on an international scale."

Khamenei condemned Israel for its artillery attack on Wednesday in Gaza which killed 18 civilians, and also the "silence" of Western nations over "this great oppression".

"The daily crimes by the savage Zionists in Gaza once more prove that holding talks with this occupying regime is of no use."
(Sounds a lot like Condi Rice pointing out thier "humiliation" )

Of course our ousting of Saddam was a victory for Iran also, all we have done is make Iran the Strong Man of the region. We got rid of thier worst enemy for them. Iran has a lot to thank us for, including the nuclear bombs they will shorty possess. We should used our man power, money and resouces to focus on Iran rather then Iraq. Iran is and has always been the bigger threat.

Okay, today, Abu Hamza al Muhajir thanks the president for leaving US troops in Iraq to get killed by his 12,000 fighters, taunts him not to flee like Rumsfeld, while congratulating the American people for electing Dems. In the meantime, across the pond, MI5 is tracking 1600 potential terrorists.

So why is it such a quiet day at Jihadwatch in terms of posted news? Not like nothings going on. Granted, the election returns and their influence on the Jihad is probably less interesting than Emsay's latest rants, but to extend that to mean that there's nothing going on in the Jihad front today?

atheling
I remember what you are talking about, and I think I am right in saying that there was an argument that Israel or the U.S. will not let Iran go Nuclear. To which I argue: just like the IDF caned Hizbollah's sorry butt and made them release the captured soldiers, eh?

When you look at who is lining up on which side, I think that is more than possible that Iran will get a bomb before Israel or the USA can do anything about it:

On their side is:
1 The UN
The UN's operatives have been helping out the Palestinians against the Israelis for years. It's a big stick to hit the U.S. with in my view. It will obfuscate matters, twist stuff. Celebrate when the Democrats win.
2. The Media
The media effectively won the war for Hizbollah. To them, the enemy of Israel is my friend.
3. The EU
which is big on Soft Power - which means that it doesn't have the balls or the unity of purpose to fight - will keep clouding the issue and keep insisting on talks while the Iranians keep building. (I am ashamed of the UKs part in this, and the sooner we get out of this new Soviet Empire the better. Poland should come out too (and any other new Europeans). We'll have a simple trade zone with Scandinavia).
4. Cindy Sheehan, and other Useful Idiots, and of course, their Democrat friends in the Senate and House - who the U.S. electorate were willed on to vote for by its sworn enemy, and whom they duly elected.

I have found that, when it comes to assholes, everyone who has one is one sooner or later. The trick is not get hooked on the feeling.

americaningermany,

"Opinions are like assholes: Everybody has one."

I wonder where you learn that one?

I have mentioned before, the U.N. is right there as a stumbling block, and unless we find a way to work a solution to this issue, it will slow, or stop any and all attempts to fight against islam.

We can't bomb without looking at the U.N.s position.

Or any other action, without knowing what is being said at The U.N.

The new elect, who will try to lead, will go through the U.N. ,first, and second.

We need a change of direction.

Maybe Ms. Pelosi can buy an honorary membership on the IAEA. She's bought her way into everything else.
