Iranian cleric blames US, Israel for Gemayel assassination

While the rest of the world looks at Syria, Iran points a finger at its usual suspects. "Cleric holds US, Zionist Regime responsible for Gemayel's assassination," from the Islamic Republic News Agency:

Tehran's substitute Friday prayers leader Hojjatoleslam Ahmad Khatami on Friday held the US and the Zionist Regime of Israel responsible for assassination of Lebanese Industry Minister Pierre Gemayel.
"All proof and evidence point clearly to the fact that the US and Zionists are behind the assassination because the US State Secretary Condoleezza Rice had earlier disclosed that many assassinations would take place in Lebanon; large amount of weapons have also been shipped to the US Embassy in Lebanon and Gemayel too was assassinated with the same arms," said Khatami in his second Friday prayers sermon.
[...]
Khatami went on to say, "The reality is that we are witnessing a plot in Lebanon." He hoped such plots would be defused through wise initiatives of the Lebanese popular officials.
The cleric said, "True, the plots have been masterminded by foreigners, notably the US, but the enemy is at home." He recalled the 33-day of Lebanese resistance against the Zionist enemy and said there were some Lebanese statesmen who tried to harm the resistance.

These people don't even pretend to be rational.

Re: Iranian cleric blames US, Israel for Gemayel assassination

He's mentally ill. There is no logic or objectivity possible with such people. They treat beliefs as if they are absolute truth-fact. This is true of Nazis, Soviets, and many Muslims. It is an aspect of human nature that stinks and will lead to oppression, mass-murder or mass-suicide (Jonestown, e.g.).

Beliefs are absolutely necessary with humans because we have to have an explanation for everything and reason will only answer our questions up to a point. But it is necessary (in order to see reality clearly) to separate fact from belief and not treat beliefs as if they are fact. This is true for atheists, people who believe in religion or any political ideology. Treating beliefs as fact (as with this cleric) is mental illness and has been the cause of terrible injustices and oppression and usually only force (as with Hitler's Germany) brings the believers to reason.

Man is not so much a rational animal, he's more a believing animal. I'm not optomistic re our species.

Frank its not mentally ill, its insane while being muslim, and iranians have it in spades!

How long will it be before people start believing it?

The truth is that God (my belief) does not want us to treat beliefs as fact or else He would remove all doubt by direct communication with every one (and not just talk to one guy in a cave). He wants us to use our heads. Doubt is part of any real faith because of the gift of reason. If we treat beliefs as fact, we fool ourselves int believing we are agents of God, and justify crimes in the name of God. It's really selfish idolatry.

"Beliefs are absolutely necessary with humans because we have to have an explanation for everything and reason will only answer our questions up to a point."

Sorry, but that is utter rubbish. Beliefs are not necessary or sufficient for human existance.

... and if the "Beliefs" say 'Earth is flat', by golly, it is! .. or is it egg-shaped? http://www.islamicvoice.com/september.2000/religion.htm#Top

ZenaWarriorPrincess-

It's a fascinating aspect of human nature, Zena. I guess we can be philosophical about it when we make sure guys like the-Nut-in-Iran don't have nukes.

We too have to separate fact from belief: such as that a secular pluralistic democracy can be imposed by force in Iraq. In that, we have something in common with the Jihadists: we treat beliefs as if they are fact and become blind to reality.

God made things interesting. The dust never settles.

Alex-

That is your belief re beliefs.

No, it's Keats' theory.

Try to keep up.

They're just playing the blame game. Business as usual.

Alex-

As you know, I am not saying beliefs should trump reason. What I'm saying is that on many matters, meaning of life, science etc., we need theory-belief at some level. It is necessary.

We need an explanation for things that reason will not readily answer-so we come up with theories-beliefs. In science, we test the beliefs. However, that's practically impossible with "religious" beliefs re God or even atheism.

We are the only species that needs to answer the question "Why?". We may come up with some dumb theory for things we can't explain, or even for our own actions, but people will come up with some theory-belief when asked "Why?".

What scares me is when people like the Nut-in-Iran treat their belief-theory as proved scientific fact. The Nut-In-Iran doesn't subject his belief system to critical analysis. He tells us: "It's a fact-and you better believe it or else".

Don't forget the Jews did 9/11. That's what Borat says, at least.

Borat from Kasakhstan

Alex-

It was Keats' theory. If Keats was the Nut-In-Iran he would say: "You better believe my theory is right,Alex- treat it as a fact-or else, Alex."

americaningermany-

In many ways they are like the people who believe the earth is flat or who believe in Unicorns. However, those beliefs are usually less dangerous than many of the Muslim beliefs since people who believe the earth is flat or who believe in Unicorns don't usually kill unbelievers.

you filthy christians made us murder a christian leader in Lebanon..........becuase he was not muslim.......and wanted to kick out hamas.......

We can be sure that muslims throughout the world, including in Europe and the United States already believe it. - americaningermany

I would imagine that billions around the world, Muslim and non-Muslim alike will believe it. Just like they belive that 9-11 was an inside job, the Moon lands never happened, the U.S. caused the 2005 Indian Ocean tsunami, Pres Bush created Hurricane Katrina, steered it into New Orleans, blew up the levees, and withheld aid. Even the Flat Earth types blame America, say the pictures of a round Earth are Hollywood fabrications. I'm just waiting for some scholar seeking truth to blame America for the extinction of the dinosaurs and claim it was done to oppress Muslims.

well it looks like typical use of Taqiyya
by a self deluding nutcase funny how the guy
that was killed was anti syria and anti iran so
why would the idf and the usa want him killed

Those Crazy Iranians! They'll say anything to get in the news! It must be all that radioctive water they've been drinking...

That is a common habit among the islamists. When 9/11 happens, its the jews.

When violence in gaza or west bank happens its the jews.

Recently when mumbai train attacks took place the punjabi minister Khurshid Ahmed Kasuri blamed India and the punjabi press immediately spread rumor that may be hindus bombed themselves to cast suspicion on Punjabis.

This same balme game is now happening in Labanon. These assasinations which are mostly due to a power struggle in middle east and is the handi-work of islamists is now being blamed on US-Israel.

What a shame.

How long will it be before people start believing it?

We can be sure that muslims throughout the world, including in Europe and the United States already believe it.

We can also be certain that the Kos Kids of Daily Kos also believe it.
